Transfering files from old MacMook that can no longer draw power to a new MacBook Pro

I have an old MacMook that can no longer draw power. I want to transfer the files from the old, broken MacBook harddrive to a new MacBook Pro that I just bought. I was curious how to do that since the old MacBook cannot use power.

Get an exterior enclosure & put the hard drive from your old Mac into it & they attach to your new computer.

Wonder if anyone can help? Have just bought a new Macbook pro and installed FCP7. I thought that I would get quicktime pro as standard but stuck with QTX. Downloaded QT7 but it won't let me install it. Says I can't do install as I already have QTX. Does FCP not come with QTpro or am I jsut being stupid. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.  B

    Hi there,
Are you running Lion or Snow Leopard? either way this may help by the looks of it.

  • HT4796 Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

I wouldn't recommend installing through a network connection.
    For a Virtual Machine:
If you have the Win 7 media (DVD), use an app like PowerISO or MagicISO to make an ISO file of the install disc and use that.
    For BootCamp:
Use the original install media and BootCamp Assistant, to install from your DVD Drive.

  • HT1329 My large iTunes library is on an external hard drive. Can I set up iTunes on my new Macbook Pro and copy the library to it or are there any pitfalls?

I have my large iTunes library on an external hard drive. Can I set up ITunes on my new Macbook Pro and transfer/copy this library to the internal hard drive or are there any problems I should be aware of?

ITs an old Iomega 100gb external HD that has about 90gb of music on it. The Macbook has a 500gb HD. I would like to put the iTunes library on the internal HD so I have room to expand.

You can copy it to the internal hard drive as long as it fits on it. How big is your library, and how big is your internal HD?
The only thing you do not want to do is over-stuff the internal hard drive. The OS needs some space to operate correctly, so if your iTunes library uses up more than say 80 to 85% of the internal HD's available space it may not be a good idea to transfer it over.
With that said, the internal HD will provide slightly faster access to the library than the external would, but other than that, you can point iTunes to the external drive just fine.

  • Transferring files from old computer with fire wire

I'm transferring files from my old computer to my new one. The old one has three hard drives. Everything from the startup drive transferred OK over fire wire, but the new computer doesn't see the 2nd and 3rd hard drives on the old one. Is there a way to link these? Thanks!

Click here and follow the instructions, setting up FireWire networking from System Preferences if desired. FireWire Target Disk mode will only connect to the master ATA drive on the ATA 0 bus, and will shut down the computer if there's nothing at that location.

  • Transferring files from old floppies

I have a lot of double density 1.44 MB floppy disks (formatted for PC), and I want to transfer the contents to my new MacBook Pro. Can I buy an external floppy disk drive to do this? How do I know which one will work? Thanks very much.

    Hi l,
If the media is not corrupt on the floppies, and you know how they are formatted, contact the manufacturer of the drive and ask if it will be compatible on your Mac. I don't know if anyone is still making new floppy drives, so that may make it more difficult if you have to find a used one.

  • Which 4K TV can I use that will be best used attached to my new macbook pro 15 Retina

I would like to hook up a 4K TV to my new macbook pro 15 retina...
I am not young and I prefer a nice large screen (less than 40") so I can switch from watching TV to using the computer.
I went to the local Future Shop and I got a whole lot of talk.
    I need better advice.
I want to know which one is best and how to hook it up to my macbook.(what cables do I use etc)
I want to retain that retina look on the TV screen.
    HELP!

  • How can I transfer my old laptop hard drive info onto a partition on my new macbook pro

is this possible? i want to transfer my windows OS with all my files etc onto a partition on my new macbook pro, but i dont know if i can do it or how to go about it.
any help would be really appreciated.
could it be as simple as using the macbook as a hard drive plugged into my laptop via USB and dragging and dropping the C:/ drive into the available space?

If you want to run Windows then you need to install a new Windows copy.
I'd assume your copy is OEM and tied to the laptop unless you bought retail copy and won't use the laptop again (or sell it with Windows OS to someone else).

  • How can I tell the differences between the new MacBook Pro with retina display and the old MacBook Pro with retina display by looking

I'm just wondering the differences between the new MacBook Pro with retina display which was just released in October 2013 and the old MacBook Pro with retina display.

Thank you for the reply! As you said they looked exactly the same, so I'm not able to tell the differences just by looking, right? I'm thinking to buy a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with retina display, but I'm not buying the MacBook in Apple Store, I'm buying it in other shops, how can know whether they are not selling me the old model of MacBook Pro with retina display?

  • Can't connect to the internet on new MacBook Pro

But I can with every other device and computer in the house. So when I run Network Diagnostics on the new MacBook Pro I see
    Wifi = Green
    Wifi Settings = Green
    Network Settings = Green
    Internet = Red (failed)
    Server = Red (failed)
Ive tried connecting directly to the modem via ethernet, same result. But using my MacBook Air (on the same home network) everything is groovy, so I don't see a network issues here, but some setting on the new Mac that I can't determine. I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 (had to run this version b/c I used Time Machine to build this one and the old MacBook wasn't in state where I could upgrade to Mavericks.)
    thanks

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Cannot transfer Library from Mac Power G4 to new Macbook Pro via MA

I just bought a MacBook Pro for my daughter, and tried to copy the files from old PowerBook G4. Applications and files are fine but not the library which is grayed out.
I do not know whether the username causing the problem, as the account name of the new computer is different from the old one
    Thank in advance

I presume you are not talking about the iPhoto & iTunes libraries.
MA does not copy the System & User Libraries across but it does copy some of the contents across such as application preferences, Mail records, etc. There are new files in the new Libraries relevant to the new hardware so to overwrite new with old could lead to all sorts of problems. If the OS on the G4 was not 10.5.2, eg was 10.4.x the Library structure might also be significantly different. Nevertheless you might find it necessary to copy certain files from old library to new. You need to be logged in as administrator on both computers to do this and might need to validate further the copying using the admin password. This should be possible with drag and drop.

  • Can Iuse non Apple display with a new MacBook Pro?

Can I use a non Apple display with a new MacBook Pro?
    Special connections?

Only thing you need is a minidisplayport-to-? adapter ... plugs into Thunderbolt port.  ? is replaced by VGA or HDMI or DVI.
I have used high-quality brand names (LG, Samsung) that were picked because I liked the display and have had no issues.
I will add that some threads speak of issues with some Dell monitors that work spottily if at all.  But only from reading other threads.

  • Can't uninstall Photoshop CS5 on my new MacBook Pro
