Transfering From Mini Mac to Imac

Hi All - Happy New Year
I have recntly upgraded from a mini to imac G5 - I transfered the files as suggested using the set up software and a firewire cable which was a success. Only problem when I start my pc I have two finder windows open - one for the imac and one for the mini mac - how can I get rid of the mini mac screen.
Many thanks
Davbe

Or you could use Titanium Software's freeware OnyX (choose your download carefully, according to the Mac OS X version you have installed). Does a whole lot for freeware!
You can also use Cocktail (shareware), Cache Out X 4.6.1 (donationware) or Northern Softworks' Tiger Cache Cleaner (shareware).

  • Poor movie/video playback from mini Mac (2010) to 50 " lg LCD tv

Hi I just got my new mini Mac 2010 release and have it set up running through my 50 inch full 1080p LCD LG tv.
It's running through a Belkin hd cable from mini Mac to the tv and get great quality from picture desktop on 1080p setting on the Mac.
However when ever I watch a DVD,movie from iTunes through front row the quality is terrible and get "blocky" picture in dark parts of the movie.
I love my new Mac but this is driving me crazy I have tried calibration and changing the settings on my tv.
Please any help with getting better quality playback from movies on my Mac as the picture is worse than an old vcr

    Welcome to  Discussions!
Have you tried using DVD Player instead of Front Row to play the DVD?
I do hope you realize that a DVD is not HD quality. Because DVDs are lower resolution than your TV, when you play them full screen on your TV without an upscaling player they are not going to look as good as they did on your standard definition (SD) TV.

No you can sync them over a local network or USB cable, you just can't do so by iCloud.
The other option would be to sync your mobile devices with iCloud and use the contacts feature at iCloud.com rather than the Address Book when using the computer.

  • Transferring from mini to iMac

Looking to buy a 6 month old iMac from a friend and I'd like to know how difficult it is to copy some data from my mini to this iMac.  I'm concerned about those apps that I purchased from the app store - just wondering how to get those loaded on to this machine.  I plan on running both machine in the house, but I'd like to use the iMac for my more labour intensive programs like Motion and FCP.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Also, how does one wipe the info on the iMac so that I can start fresh?

  • My new iMac hung up during Transferring from another Mac. How do I restart it?

My new iMac with fusion drive hung up during transfer from another Mac.  How do I restart it?

I'm afraid you'll have to power down both, then...
    For the 2 macs...
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • The Domains.site2 file transferred from another mac won't open in iweb

Just transfered a Domains.site2 file from one mac to another in the applications support/iweb folder. But when I open iweb I get the error: can't read Domains.site2 file. Any thoughts on why this might be? It's a large file - over 2 gigs, transferred from an iMac running OX 10.5 to a macbook running OX 10.6
    Thanks!

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Best Method of Transferring From Old Mac to New Mac

I've got a 27" iMac on order that's supposed to ship sometime in early January, and am wondering what is the best method of transferring everything from this Mac to the new one (once it arrives)?
As I understand it, there are essentially three ways of doing this:
    Migration Assistant
    Setup Assistant
    Time Machine
I've got two user accounts on this Mac, and will need to transfer everything for both accounts. I have about 350GB worth of files, data, and applications to transfer.
Is one of the above methods better than the others for accomplishing this? Are there any "gotchas" I should be aware of before moving everything over?
    Advice and assistance is welcomed.

The easiest method is to use Setup Assistant that automatically starts the first time you use a new Mac. It will offer you the opportunity to migrate all users or just those you select.
    Mike Osborn wrote:
... Are there any "gotchas" I should be aware of before moving everything over?
If you do not use Setup Assistant, you can always use Migration Assistant later. However, this can easily become confusing if you already created a user account on the new Mac. Most people won't have the patience to use Setup Assistant and understandably want to use their new Mac right away. If you elect to do that, don't create an account with the same name as one you wish to migrate. Instead, create a user account that you plan to erase after you migrate your existing accounts. The reason is that if you create a brand new account named, for example, "Mike Osborn", you will be unable to migrate to another account with that name.
Use a wired connection. Wireless can take an unacceptable amount of time (days).
Don't create a brand new Apple ID either. Have your existing Apple ID and password ready and use it, so you don't make the mistake of creating an Apple ID with no pedigree.
Register your new Mac (and all your other Apple equipment, if you have not yet done so) using this link:
      https://supportprofile.apple.com/
This provides for a convenient database of all your Apple equipment's serial numbers, service history, and warranty eligibility.

  • Transferring from a Mac 10.2.8 iTunes 6 to WinXP iTunes 7

I need to transfer my Mac-formatted iPod from a Mac running OS 10.2.8 with iTunes 6 to WindowsXP with iTunes 7 as well as all my music and audiobooks from my Mac iTunes library to my PC.
All of the documentation I can find says that they both have to have iTunes 7, but the Mac does not meet the system requirements for iTunes 7.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can accomplish this? What steps must I take and in what order?
    Thanks for your help!
iPod mini Mac OS X (10.2.x) to WinXP Pro

OK first thing is, are all the songs that are on your iPod still in your iTunes library? And second, do you plan on still using the iPod with the Mac after you move everything to the Windows machine?
If all your songs are safe on the Mac, then what we want to do first is format the iPod in Windows format. Because, Windows can not read your Mac formatted iPod, but once in DOS format, both computers can read the iPod.
But I don't think we want to format the iPod with iTunes 7 because it may also update the firmware to where you can not read it on the Mac's iTunes. I am not sure of this, though. But if you don't need to use iTunes on the Mac anymore, I don't think it matters.
If you need to use the Mac iTunes still, Did your iPod mini come with a CD? If so, does the CD have both Windows and Mac stuff on it? If so, it likely has a restore/updater program on it for Windows. So insert the CD into the Windows machine and install the updater program. When done, plug your iPod into the Windows machine. Say no when it asks you if you want to change it to windows. Exit iTunes.
Now run the stand alone updater/restorer program. If it works correctly this should reformat the Mini to Windows format and put it back into the condition it was when you bought it. Eject it.
If on the other hand you don't need to use it on the Mac anymore for iTunes, then restore it with iTunes7 on the Windows machine. After it is done, enable Disk Mode on the iPod from the Summary page. Eject the iPod
Plug it into the Mac. Your Mac should now be able to read it. But you don't want to sync/update to it.
If we are keeping it Mac iTunes compatible then we want to put the iPod into disk mode (preferences -> iPod -> Enable Disk Mode). Exit iTunes. Otherwise you are already in disk mode.
iPod should be on the desktop. You can now drag and drop your iTunes stuff onto it...

assuming you have enough room. You may need to do it in several chunks. Eject the iPod, move it to the Windows machine, copy the iTunes stuff onto the Windows machine.
Once you get it all on there, eject the iPod. Open iTunes. Now if everything is back in the same folder structure, I think in order to keep playlists and stuff you want to Recreate our iTunes library. See these instructions...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
If that doesn't work, then you can always simply do a File -> Add to Library and select the iTunes folder which will add everything but then you lose play counts, playlists, etc.
Disclaimer: I haven't actually done the process as outlined above, so I am making assumptions on how things work. The above may not be completely correct.

  • IPAD2 since yesterday seems to have stopped allowing transfers of photos from anything other than another Apple product and comes up with the message2 itunes will no longer sync photos....which are not transferred from a Mac? Looks as if there is a prob

Any ideas or are we to await Mac correcting the software?

Okay, can someone please give a useful answer? Thanks! I have been experiencing exactly the same problem for some time now, and it is very annoying. Furthermore, I would like to point out to Chris CA that there is absolutely nothing ambiguous about the original post.
So here is the deal. I used to be able to burn CDs with iTunes that played back fine on both my car and home stereo. After some update, and I am very sorry but I really do not remember which one, as I am just a user and not a programmer and just want something that works, which in the end Apple used to be all about, and therefore do not keep track of all the updates, CDs won't play back on my car stereo. Nothing else changed, still the same brand of CDs (even the same stack!), still the same car stereo, and still the same 2007 MBP. So by simple deduction I conclude it must be a software update. And I do not care what the exact cause is, I just want a fix!
I'd like to apologize for my tone in the above, but it is just a very annoying problem, even more so because it seems nothing is being done about it. Thanks for your answer in advance!

  • How do I get QuickTime .mov files transferred from my Mac onto my PC to play?

I recently transferred a bunch of QuickTime videos from my Mac to my PC using an external hard drive. When I tried to open to files on my PC, the files were recognized as QuickTime files but they would not play. It said the files were of a type that quicktime does not understand. Do I need some sort of Mac to PC file converter?

  • Trying to network my mini Mac to Imac behind FIOS Router. How?

I just purchased a Mac Mini for my basement.
I am trying to network it with my IMac.
Both sit behind a FIOS Router.
I have tried using the File Sharing capability on my IMac but it seems to allow then disallow.
On my mini-mac I can sometimes see/find the Share capabality and other times it does not pop up on the left bar menu.
    HelP?

can both of the mac's find the router on itself, i.e., have a network connection (to the internet for example) that doesn't drop away after some time?

  • HT201317 Privacy concerns having files transferred from old Mac to new Mac.

I am buying a new Mac. I was told that all of my files and photos on my old Mac could be transferred to my new Mac if I left both Macs at the Apple Store for a couple of days. To be honest, I am concerned about privacy issues. Is there is a way to remove files and photos to iCloud and off the old Mac before taking it to the Apple Store?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't use iCloud to do this.
Moving information from one Mac to another is quite simple and you could do it yourself.

  • Setup LWSelect 360 to print from mini mac ethernet socket

I would like to run my 360 direct from the mini mac ethernet socket but I don't know how this is done.
My cable modem is connected to Airport which is plugged into the wall socket. My HP1018 USB is connected to the Airport. My HP 5740 USB is connected direct to the mini mac usb port.
I have an Asante ethernet bridge.
My Ethernet cable is not a cross-over cable.
From cold I turn printer on, and then minimac on. I then turn Asante on. LI light stays on, PWR light stays on, RX and TX flash for a few seconds then remain off.
    I then go to:
    System preferences>Print&Fax>"add a printer" button
    This brings up
Printer Browser> but no printer is found.
    System preferences>Network>Location:Automatic;Show:Network Staus

Red light Built-in Ethernet. The cable for Built-in Ethernet is connected, but your computer does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet.

    Many thanks
    Bob

Red light Built-in Ethernet. The cable for Built-in Ethernet is connected, but your computer does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet.
It will need an IP Address, and if you are not using Ethernet to connect to the Internet via a Router, you will need to provide one Manually or change your wiring scheme (see below). Choose an address similar to the Airport IP address assigned to your computer by your Airport Base Station/Router, but a bit higher, e.g, Airport is assigned 10.10.10.3 via DHCP. Use a similar number but somewhat higher, but less than 254 such as 10.10.10.101. Use a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 (which says anything the same in the first three octets is on my Subnet and can be reached directly). The rest can be blank, or you can fill in the DNS info provided by your ISP.
Also, important -- you must turn on AppleTalk on your Ethernet port (using the AppleTalk pane), which will turn it off over Airport.
Last step is to cycle the power on your AsanteTalk, since it is horrible at re-acquiring printer/Macs that drop out for any reason.
Now try to set up your printer again. Remember the LaserWriter Select 360 is an AppleTalk Printer, do not allow it to configure as an LPR Printer.
    Alternate wiring:
Another alternative is to connect the AsanteTalk to a wired Ethernet port on your Base Station, if one is available. Then it can get an IP Address from the Base Station directly. Some third-party base station of lesser-known brands do not pass AppleTalk packets over wireless, so this is occasionally a problem.
