Transfering iTunes to Seagate Central - Permission Errors

Hi!
I have a Mac Desktop (Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.4) and I am currently running out of storage. Just yesterday I was uploading some more movies and it said I had no more space.
So I went out and bought a Seagate Central and I want to stream my iTunes directly from SeaGate.
I followed the instructions to Go to Preferences - Advance - And change the Itunes Folder to one inside of Seagate (Public/itunes)
Then I followed the instructriosn to File - Libray - Consolodate Files.
I get this error:
Copying files failed, because you don't have permission to change your iTunes Media Folder or a folder within it.
I googled this a lot and even went in to the file and changed the permissions - applying to the file and folders within it.
Did this a LOT - and no matter how many times I did it and restarted..... no go.
So now I'm stuck.
I don't have a problem puchasing or transfering stuff into the itunes.....but apparently consolidating to move them onto thie Seagate Central is a problem.
Thank you!

Most likely the drive is formatted NTFS , which Macs will not write to.
Open Disk Utility and reformat as HFS+.
After you do this, select the drive in the Finder then right click - get info.
Scroll to the bottom to the Users & Permissions tab and tick Ignore ownership on this drive.
I followed the instructions to Go to Preferences - Advance - And change the Itunes Folder to one inside of Seagate (Public/itunes)
Instead of doing it this way, I hughly suggest you...
Copy the entire /Music/iTune's folder to the external.
Hold Option, launch iTUnes, select Choose library... and select the ITunes folder you copied to the external.
This keeps everything together in the iTunes folder instead of keeping themedia separate from the iTunes library files.
You can then delete the /Music/iTunes/ folder.

  • Installing iTunes after registry user permission error

I'm just going to keep this simple. I ran CCleaner and cleaned the registry, then i ran Glary Utilities to clean up whatever CCleaner couldnt. THEN I downloaded iTunes from the apple website. I used winrar and extracted the install into a folder. I removed Bonjour64 from the folder and ran iTunes64. This bypassed Bonjour64 and installed iTunes flawlessly. When when I first opened iTunes it told me Bonjour64 needs to be running in my services...ingore it and continue. Bonjour64 is already running as it wont uninstall from windows when you have the innsufficient user permission error on the registry so its still installed. iTunes opened and I was able to use it as if the error never existed. Hope this helps! (ps after using other peoples tecniques i found that no-one elses worked without reinstalling windows...so I set out for my own solution.)

  • Permission Errors: Mtn Lion upgrade from SL iphoto, iTunes, etc; want to save myself and reinstall, Permission Errors: Mtn Lion upgrade from SL iphoto, iTunes, etc; want to save myself and reinstall

Well here I am again, once again lots of problems with t he upgrade to ML from SL on my late 2009 iMac.
Background: I took my perfectly fine functioning iMac into the Apple Store to have the Seagate HD replaced pert the recall. BIG MISTAKE. The Geniuses gave me a "complimentary" upgrade to ML without asking if that was okay, and three months later, I still do not have a functioning iMac.
My iMac since this reintallation has been unable to open ANY iphoto files/photos saved whie I was still running SL--pretty much everything I've saved as a jpeg for the last six years, so I'm not willing to let this go so easily. Not only have I got work-related files on here that I need, all of my children's and family photos are saved on there. I need those files.
After trying to no avail to reinstall SL from disk, the Apple Tech from Apple Care said that I've got hardware problems (fans wont' stop running; SL disk cannot be read by either Super Drive--the one inside the iMac or the external portable Super Drive, hence reinstallation of SL has not been possible), so I'm supposed to take it BACK into the Apple Store and let them work on it again. Please understand that for the last three months I have been dealing with nonstop issues that have created a real mess of my life and nothing gets fixed, no matter how many phone calls I make. I do not think any of this is hardware-related, honestly. I've found numerous threads on the fan running constantly with the installation of ML; and no, I'm not even running any CPU-instensive programs. And nothing explains why when the SL disk (a second copy of which was mailed to me) cannot be opened (the progress wheel just keeps spinning and spinning).
Well, I've decided that I'm probably going to have to give up on this, and that my previously working iMac that should have had more life in it is destined for the landfill (or recycling). All I want now is to get my data off of it and be able to  use it with my external hard drive with another Mac (MBA now running Lion--although it's also got lots of problems) and a new Windows machines which I will mostly likely be buying this week. I can no longer live with the interruptions to my life--I work with my computers, need my data, and this has been going for three months.
I read a bunch of really complicated information on how to get my old data off of my Mac and/or external hard drive, and I've accepted that this is going to take a LOT of time, but I  do't have a choice if I want my data.
I'm now looking at the contents of my external hard drive, and looking specifically at one of the user accounts (one that I use for work purposes) and I see that I am not allowed to view the contents of the "Pictures" because I do not have permission. This has been an ongoing issue while using the MBA to TRY to view/access data from the iMac. Is there anyone who can help me figure out how to repair all of  these permission errors?
I've lost an unbelievable amount of time with all of this and I only want MY OWN files. I'm not trying to pirate any software, I just want and need my own iPhoto images and of course, since I own the music in my iTunes library, I think I ought to have permission to take this data off of  this external hard drive and put it onto another external hard drive that I will buy tomorrow, so that I can reinstall onto another machine (ie, probably a  new WIndows computer).
    To paraphrase:
Upgrade to ML made most of my files saved on my iMac with SL obsolete or not viewable or accessbile. I NEED these files (mostly jpegs, iTunes music, some pages docs, etc, but I'll live without those docs if need be).
I have the last backup that was done before taking the iMac in to have the hard drive replaced. I can see that the data is there, but in one of the user accounts, the one I use mostly for work related purposes, the error  message that tells me I cannot view the files because I do not have permission comes up. I've never had any other admins of my computers, either the iMac or the MBA that I am trying to use to open the files on the external hard drive. How would I repair the permissions on a backup of my old SL system from a MBA running Lion?
Anyone? Please help. I'm going to lose a whole heck of a lot of data and money if I cannot get these saved files back.

  • Having trouble connecting seagate central to iTunes 12?

I have just purchased a seagate central 2TB and have copied all of my music files to the public music folder. This is supposed to show up as a shared library in iTunes (version 12) but nothing is appearing? Any suggestions?

I have had the Seagate Central for almost a year and iTunes stopped recognizing the shared music folder when it upgraded from 12.0 to 12.1. From the little research I did last month, it looks like other NAS media servers were affected by the upgrade too. There might be a better solution, but downgrading iTunes back to 12.0 worked for me.

    Hi,
can you access the share via browser?
Please check if your NETBIOS settings are correct:
    1.
Go to “Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections”.
    2.
Right-Click on the connection and choose Properties.
    3.
Click “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4” in the list.
    4.
Click Properties, and then click Advanced.
    5.
On the Advanced TCP/IP settings windows, go to “WINS” tab.
    6.
Under NetBIOS setting, click “Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP”, and then click OK.
Are you using any kind of third-party firewall or anti-virus software?
Try disabling it and then try to connect.

  • Error using Seagate Central with Mavericks as a Time Machine backup drive.

I am trying to use a Seagate Central as a backup drive with Mavericks. After a while, I started getting a sparsebundle in use error. Time Machine does not backup to the drive as it keeps asking me to eject the drive, but I can't see it connected. How do I get the drive to start backing up again?

Thanks for the reply, I had done all of the above but that did not help solve the issue.
I finally deleted the sparsebundle using this: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120709152257934
After this, I reconnected the Seagate Central Drive to time machine and the wireless backup worked!

  • ITunes 10.5.3 - Installation Error - Vista SP2

At the beginning of installation, I receive this - "The Installer has insufficient priveleges to modify this file: C\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.resources\inspector\images\toolbarIconsSmall.png."
Of course, this permission error follows with another message after installation, when it wants to open the program - "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127). When I try to manually open it, even by opening as administrator, it says, "The procedure point kCMByteStreamNotification_AvailableLengthChanged could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll."
Is this an easy fix? I'm not sure why permission is messing with dll's. iTunes was working fine before I updated it a few months ago. Sorry I don't have the version info. Other than that nothing has been changed.

"The Installer has insufficient priveleges to modify this file: C\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.resources\inspector\images\toolbarIconsSmall.png."
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • I plugged in my itouch and itunes says there's an error and tells me to restore to factory mode.WHY does this keep happening to me?

Okay so before my itouch was jailbroken then all of a sudden it deleted all my songs and when I plugged it back into the computer itunes didn't recognize it so I had to restore it to factory settings deleting my 20+ apps . After I did that I jailbroke it again since the hardware was basically brand new, then while it was syncing i transfered a song and it interfered with the sync and deleted everything so I upgraded it once again. Now I have't jailbroken it and it the same thing has happened TWICE. Everything is fine and I plug it in and my computer recognizes it cause its charging but Itunes says there's and error and it simply doesn't recognize it and makes me restore it to factory settings DELETING everything. Now I'm scared to buy apps because if this happens again it deleted everything thousands of songs I have to put back manually etc. What is wrong with my itouch? Is it the itouch or the itunes because my itouch is no longer jailbroken and working fine. I took it to the apple store and they told me they couldn't do anything about it because it was working fine on their computer. -_- HELP?!!! I'M tired of this happening.

    brendan.blaine23,
which version of iTunes is currently installed on your MacBook Pro?

  • I got a problem on installing iTune-64bit on WIndows 7, error message says the folder "itunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder.

I got a problem on running the iTune 64bit on Windows 7, error message says " the folder "itunes" is on a locked disk or your do not have write permission for this folder.    Any one ran into this problem ?
    It worked before.

Open Disk Utility via Spotlight or in the Applications folder stored within the Utilities folder. Close all applications and 3rd party software and choose "Repair Disk Permissions." Reboot the computer when finished, and test to see if the issue is resolved.

  • 10.5.8 Update Provokes An Onslaught of Permission Errors :(

Is Apple going to offer a fix for this apparently defective update?
On a brand New Macbook Pro 17"( just after booting up for the very first time) I ran disk utility and did a routine verify of permissions which resulted with no errors displayed. (Passed with flying colors). I soon after was greeted by "Live Update 10.5.8" - "Recommended for All Users". I naively did the install and consequently, upon running Disk Utility proceeded to "Verify", when much to my surprise, a laundry list of "Errors" began to por down my screen. I next did "Repair Permissions" but these errors persisted. I since tried independently downloading and installing "Combo Update" twice in a row followed by a "Verify" (without doing a "Repair"). The Permission Errors continue to cascade, however, this Did resolve initial Warnings encountered as follows:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Versions/A/Resources /DiskManagementTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Extensions/webdavfs.kext/Contents/Resources/loadwebdav" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "usr/sbin/pppd" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "usr/sbin/vpnd" has been modified and will not be repaired..
Presently, I am still plagued with "Permission Errors" and I did run "Repair" out of frustration and desperation to no avail. I have since read and been advised I should "Ignore" the errors, although they are "Valid"?
Why do I have "Errors" on my brand new computer I ask.
I don't understand how this can possibly be acceptable to Apples standards and dismissed as Valid yet fine to ignore.
How does one determine in the future which "Errors" are "False Positives"and are they really? How do I know the health of my system? I have honestly been conditioned to rely upon Disk Utility- Verify, Repair. How can I feel confidence in future "Recommended Updates"? I am neither a software engineer, nor a technical expert but I do in all honesty have a business to run. I honestly don't know if this unit is reliable in it's present state. Am I going to be plagued and riddled with these errors for the life of this laptop?
I am genuinely trying to get a handle on this and confess to having lost hours of sleep over it. Hopefully, someone from Apple is working on resolving this for us. Right now I hesitate to even turn it on at this point. I've gone back to using my G4! So for now My Macbook Pro is sitting on my desk looking like an expensive paperweight.
Thanks for any solution, expertise or reassurance anyone may be able to offer.
Lastly resorted to "Repair" and this is the result.

Sorry you are as well in the same boat! I confess I would prefer not to have to live with it.
AFAIK, everybody has to live with these messages, but they are not actually errors in the permissions of the indicated files & as Apple says should not generally be a cause for concern. For example, all those that start with the letter el in the first position of the permissions string (like "they are lrw-rw-r-- ") are just indicating that the +file type+ of the file is a symbolic link -- the file type is not actually a permission & should not be changed by the repair, which would cause the file not to be recognized as a link & cause a legitimate operational error!

  • When installing itunes I received the following error "service Apple Mobile Device failed to start, verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services"

when installing itunes I received the following error "service Apple Mobile Device failed to start, verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services"

Me too. And if someone comes back on here with the same solution of "uninstall and re-install", please provide further advice after you have done that 3 times and the program still has the same problem in addition to the "failure to load the C runtime library" R6034 issue. I have removed itunes 3 times however I do not have permission to remove the program files/apple file and the uninstall doesn't remove it.
    You're not alone buddy.
    Frustrated.

  • I cant get into itunes producer keep getting an error my username and password is incorrect. i have made a new one all good still same error any ideas?

I cant get into itunes producer keep getting an error my username and password is incorrect. i have made a new one all good still same error any ideas?

I'm having a very similar problem.
I'm based in the U.K. and am trying to publish an iBook through the iTunes bookstore. I have made my book in iBooks author 2.0. My iTunes is up to date.
When I try and publish the iBook I have passed and ticked the Pre Publish Check; and the Create Account, but when I try and download iTunes Producer through iTunes Connect I'm told "Your Apple ID does not have permission to access iTunes Content."
When I try and re-set my iTunes Store account I'm told "The iTunes Store Account has already applied to distribute content on the iBookstore." Of course it has I just did that.
If I try and sign in to iTunes Connect through the Publishing pane I'm told "Your ID or Password was entered incorrectly." Even though I've just used it to sign into iTunes (and here), so my password and Apple ID work fine elsewhere.
Is my access to the iTunes Connect being delayed while my submission is processed, i.e. the processing of my tax and account details? Or am I stuck in a loop?
If this is still processing (I started this 20 hours ago) I assume that I have to submit the book itself when I can download iTunes Producer at a later date, as I haven't submitted the book yet?
I emailed the problem to iTunes Store and was refered to [email protected], only for them to say they don't read or reply to emails sent to that address??????
I'm not sure which part of the process I've reached - if any. I feel I'm in limbo. I have an iBook ready to go - but where is Apple?
Any help would be most welcome.
    Andy

  • Permission Error After Upgrade

I just upgraded to Leopard and now I'm having problems with iTunes 7.6.2. I think it is a new version with Leopard? Anyway, I can't play any songs or movies I downloaded through the iTunes store. It tells me there's a permission error and i have to authorize the computer. And if that doesn't work, I have to deauthorize the computer. When I try to do either, it won't let me! It gives me another error. Has anyone else had this? Is there anyway to fix this???

What you're gonna do is make a "Shared" folder in your Users folder. The User Folder should be in your Macintosh HD. You won't be able to create a new folded WHILE you are in the Users folder in Finder. What you have to do is create a new folder on the Desktop named "Shared". Have the finder opened so you can drag and drop the "Shared" folder into the User folder. It will likely ask you for your password and once done, it should work.
I would have iTunes closed at the time of this process. Then go ahead and open it. I had this problem for about a week before I figured it out. Works fine now.

  • Mavericks - Permission errors

I noticed that as a result of the Mavericks install I have thousands of permission errors in iBooks and iTunes.  I do not use iBooks and iTunes seems to be functioning.  Can I safely ignore the errors and wait for the 10.9.01 fix.

Yes. In general, the repair permissions function should only be used when troubleshooting an issue, and then only once per issue.
