I just got a new MacBook Pro and I want to know how I can transfer my iTunes library from my old Macbook (the black one with intel core). Please and thank you.

Do you want to use it?

There is something incompatible would be my guess. Did you disconnect all your peripherals in safe mode just to check?
You might now create a new temporary user account. Log into the new account. Do the panics still occur?
I would also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. Sometimes they can be difficult to track down. Looking at each new panic log would help determine if it's cause is associated with the same extensions.

  • Sharing iTunes Library between Mac and PC

    Hello
I have a Windows PC at home and had a Dell laptop. I have my itunes library on an external hard drive. This worked perfectly since which ever machine I was on I had access to the same library. Recently my work upgraded my laptop to a Mac Book Pro with Snow Leopard. Is there a way to share this same library on my Mac? I am new to the Mac world and am a bit lost. Thanks in advance

I have a similar setup. You need to move your itunes library to your network storage device. You need to do this within itunes (you will have to google moving your itunes library because I don't remember all the steps). After you moved the itunes library to a network share, you need to go into advanced preferences on each computer that will access the library and set the location of the itune library to point to the network share folder where the file itunes library.itl is located - the exit from Itunes. Restart Itunes on each computer (pressing shift on the Windows computers and option on the Macs). You will then have to choose the Itunes library. Browse to the network share and click on the itunes library.itl folder.
Three notes. Only one computer at a time can access the library. Second, each time you switch back and forth between mac and pc, the library folder needs to be updated. Third, for some reason, with iTunes 9.0.2, the updating process has slowed down. It is especially slow taking 15 minutes or so for a 13GB library. Hope apple fixes this.

  • Transfering data between mac's

    Hi,
    I have an iMac & a macbook.
How do I transfer a lot of data between the 2?
I take it I buy a firewire to firewire cable.
How do I then go about transfering data.
    Many Thanks,
    Jeff

How do I then go about transfering data.
Connect them and start up one Mac with the T key held down. You can also use file sharing over a FireWire, Ethernet, or wireless connection.

  • Sync itunes library between macs

hello guys, i had a macbookpro for 2 years and i just bought a new i mac for home use and an airport extreme (new version with hard disk connection capabilities), and i did that for a reason. well my mbpro is packed with music and videos and i would like to remove them from this library. so the question that pops out: is there anyway to sync an itunes library to another one on the network or on airport extreme and put only may favorite and/or recently added, recently played content.

I have the same question, and can't seem to find an answer. I have 3 Mac computers - iMac, Macbook and Macbook Pro (yes I'm addicted to Apple products) and an iPhone. They are all on my networked via a 1TB Time Machine and I can "share" the iTunes libraries between the machines, but I would love to get every tune, app, and video on all the machines so the libraries are identical and they can all sync with my iPhone. Apparently, you can't use the "shared" libraries on the machine used to sync your iPhone. I've read one post (about a year old) about editing Hex and XML and the like, but that's too complicated for my skills. I'm trying to figure out why Apple would hamper their very best customers (and may I add, stockholder) by not allowing a single user of multiple computers to sync everything up. Its like the more money you spend on apple stuff, the more complicated your life gets - that just ain't right!

  • Resolved: Issues connecting iTunes Library between Macs, PC's and Apple TV (1

I was having trouble connecting my wireless Macbook Pro to my wired MacPro on the same network.  It turns out that they can see each other fine and even communicate on the ports required: UDP 5353 and TCP 3689. If I took the Macbook Pro and wired it into the ethernet, it worked fine and the iTunes Library showed up.  I was even able to connect to another wireless iTunes Library to the Macbook Pro.  My Apple TV could not see the library from my MacPro either, so I knew it had to do something with the Wireless Router settings.
    Resolution:
If you're using a wireless router, make sure to disable IGMP Proxy.  This will allow your connection to go through and easily share your content with your Apple TV.
Good luck and I hope that helps many of you fix the problem with a lot less frustration.

I am wanting to see if I can (it sounds like you at least have that working Steffen) have the iTunes library on my Ex HDD on the Airport and have both iTunes (Macbook and iMac) point to it for use. Not physically have the data on either computer but each conmputer's iTunes use that data located on the NAS to listen to music/movies etc.
Yes, you can do that. It's not a problem as long as you don't have concurrent access, i.e. iMac and MacBook trying to WRITE to the library at the same time. And you will have to store not only the media files on the NAS, but the iTunes library ("iTunes" folder you usually find under "Music" on your Mac) as well.
I also want to know if I can rip a CD or movie on either computer and will it update that one library (NAS)...so both computers have total up to date info?
Yes, sure. If you tell iTunes to manage the files and to copy them to the iTunes library as soon as you add them to iTunes, it will work seamlessly. It doesn't matter if you rip and add them on the iMac or the MacBook because both computers are using the same library.
Hopefully that wasn't too confusing and again it sounds like Steffen is where I want to be minus the ATV issue.....sharing one library on a NAS between Macbook and iMac...AND any changes made only affects the NAS but both computers would get the latest and greatest.
As I said, it works as long as you are not trying to sync an Apple TV with that configuration.

  • Is it possible to share iTunes Library between Mac and PC?

My wife has a HUGE collection of audio and videos, mainly recordings of workshops she's involved with. Total size is many hundreds of MB, too much for her laptop.
If we create a new library on a large external HD (formatted for PC), should she be able to access the same library with either her Mac or her office PC? Or are they different file structures?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Recommended software for file transferring offline between Mac 10.5.8 and iPhone 5?

I have an iPhone 5 and a Mac OS X 10.5.8 therefore I am unable to sync my iPhone with iTunes on my laptop.
I am looking for software which will allow me to transfer files to and fro between my iPhone and Mac without access to the internet.
I realise that I can import photos from my iPhone to my Mac computer through iPhoto but I would like to do the opposite of putting photos from my Mac onto my iPhone. I have found answers of using such software such as Dropbox but it seems that I would need to connect my Mac to the internet, which I am unable to do. I would also like to import music from my Mac onto my iPhone if possible.
Are there any software or programs that allows me to do this offline by simply plugging my iPhone to my Mac via the USB port? I would be willing to purchase a program at a decent price so long as it is cheaper than having to buy a new Mac computer!
I would be thankful for any advice.
    Cheers.

What about updating your Mac to OS X 10.6.8? That's only US $20 from Apple.

  • Itunes Shared Library between Mac and Windows isn't sharing videos properly

Hi, I'm a bit new to the mac world, but I'm the proud owner of a new macmini. I also own a Windows 7 machine.
My problem is with the Itunes Shared library. Itunes 10 on my mac is set up to share everything, including podcasts. I can see these from Itunes 10 on Windows, and I can play music (and audio podcasts), but video is hit or miss.
Videos downloaded from Itunes U tend to work, lectures and stuff.
Video podcasts (also downloaded from Itunes Store) and other videos don't work at all. Itunes just doesn't play the video, and doesn't even launch the "black screen". The timer remains at 0.00.
On the other hand, sharing videos from the PC to Mac works well, i.e. my mac can see the contents of the itunes shared library on Windows and play videos. It just doesn't work the other way around.
Thanks for reading and I hope this problem can be fixed.

  • Transferring Data Between Mac & PC

Hi! I've been a PC user all this while and I just got my very first Mac.
I'm wondering if there is a way to share data between my employer's PC and my personal Mac using my external backup drive. The HDD I currently have is formatted in NTFS and it does not allow me to transfer data from my Mac.
I do a lot of work at home and while I'm overseas and I need to read/ write from both computers very regularly.
    Please help.

I'm looking to switch from a PC to a Mac, and all of my data is on two external NTFS hard drives.
Am I ok using NTFS-3g and keeping my drives formatted NTFS indefinitely, or should buy a new drive, format it FAT32, and move all the data to it?

  • Transferring information between macs

Can I transfer my documents, music, and pictures from an old macbook to a new macbook pro using time machine?

I had already started up my mac so I assume I have to use Migration Assistant at this point.  I tried doing the firewire connection and using time machine with my old mac, and it seemed like everything worked (Migration Assistant said the transfer was complete); however, I can't find any of my files (specifically pictures, music, and documents...my old applications transferred) on my new mac.  Is there a specific folder that all of my information would be sent to?

    Hi,
I'm brand new to the Mac world, so forgive the new user question on something that is probably obvious to all.
I've set up my new iMac for both my wife and I to access on two separate accounts. I've loaded our photos from my PC to my iPhoto program on my account. How can I get my wifes account to see the same photos? Do I have to load them on her account also?
Thanks for any help you can offer!
    Tom

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Sharing my library between Mac and PC.

Problem: iTunes (Mac) will not find shared music on iTunes (PC).
I have recently allowed my iTunes library on my PC to share my music over the local network. My PC is connected to the network by Ethernet cable attached to a wireless router.
My mac, however, is connected to the wireless network also coming from the router, but it has not found any shared music at all.
After I enabled the sharing on my PC, I almost immediately logged out of it, but it was still on and connected to the network.
I have not created any advanced settings on my PC (maybe I should have?), but it remains connected to the network (and the internet) through the Ethernet cable.
    Any ideas?

  • Share library between MAC accounts

I have an iMac with three user accounts, how do we share common items such as photo's in iPhoto and songs/videos in iTunes in such a way that maintains iPhoto event structures and iTunes playlists.
    Michael,

If you want the other user(s) to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. For help with iTunes best to post on that forum.
