"I'm somewhat new to my iPod and have to ask, what will doing what you suggest accomplish?"
I suspect that you viewed the video tutorial, all the steps I have talked about are to be found in the link above which is that text version. By carry out these actions prior to the move you ensure that all of your music is in the iTunes music folder and that the library is directed to that location. When you make the move to the new computer you are therefore taking the folder, the library with it's correct settings and the music over. When you move the folder to the new computer make sure you put it into the same location it was on the old one. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this would be in Documents and Settings/Username/My Documents/My Music/. The final path when you've done should look like this: Documents and Settings/Username/My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music

  • Transfering library to another computer

Just got a new mac with snow leopard and iphoto 09, is it safe to import my iphoto 08 library to the new mac and still keep it on the old machine as well? I have some galleries I don't want to lose.

Just deleting the library that created the galleries should not remove the photos from the gallery. It's deleting photos from the library that created them and syncing, manually or automatically, that will remove the online photos.
But I would run a confirmation test. Before deleting the unwanted library open the new library on its computer and check out the galleries. Visit them several times thru iPhoto and via their URL to make sure the photos are still there. When you're satisfied then delete the old library.

  • How to view aperture library from another computer on network?

    Hi,
I'd like to simply view (not edit) my aperture library from another computer on my home network. The aperture library resides on a mac pro, and I'd like to see the images on a macbook pro to show family members. On the surface, this seems like a simple concept - as Apple TV can do this with home sharing. Further, itunes can share it's library in this manner.  Is this possible?
    thank you,
    T

You don't mention which OS you're using and I understand that Lion has changed some of the sharing features but  what you are looking to do is doable.
Be warned that accessing an Aperture library over a network is slow and definitely not something you want to do if editing except in an emergency and you want to make triple sure that only one user is accessing the library at a time.  But I regularly access libraries over wireless when I'm to lazy to walk across the house and need to check somthing out.
If you are using Snow Leopard go into System preferences->Sharing and tune on file sharing on the the Mac Pro. If you have the same user name on both systems you should have no problem accessing the library from the MBP.
If you're on Lion, you'l need to lok up how to enable file sharing. I haven't swithced so I can;r help you there.
    good luck

  • Open iTunes Library on another computer

My entire music library is on my external hard drive. I'm going away for the summber and obviously I can't take my iMac with me. But I've got PB. And, I'd like to open my music library in my PB exactly like I do on my iMac, i.e. same play count, same import date, etc... The reason I ask this is because the only way I know how to open the music library on another computer, is to import the entire library again, which will not retain all that information (play count, etc). So, how do I do that?

Here's the trick. On your PB, Rename your user/music/iTunes folder (something like iTunesb or anything similar). When you launch iTunes, it will freak out and tell you that it can't find your music library and ask you to "point to" the correct location. From there simply navigate to your iTunes folder on your ext. drive and bingo..... Of course, this means that you must have the drive mounted whenever you launch iTunes. Also, you will have to "authorize" the PB to play your purchased music.

  • I need to switch my ipod from one library to another please help me!

i keep my itunes on my computer at my dads...i took my ipod home and switched the computer there to be the source for my ipod...and i accidentally deleted all of my songs off of it. i was wondering how i could put the songs from my dad's computer back onto my ipod. please help. it will be greatly appreciated.

Your iPod is set to update automatically. Take it back to the first computer and connect it, it will update and reload your songs. Once you have done that, change the update setting on your iPod to manual and you'll be able to use it on both computers:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Some additional info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences.
    iTunes 6
Connect your iPod to your computer and when it appears in the Source list go to Edit>iTunes>Music Tab (iTunes>Preferences>Music tab on a Mac). Choose one of the following options
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
    iTunes 7
Connect your iPod to your computer and when it appears in the Source list click on it to show the preference tabs in the main pane. Choose one of the following options and click "Apply".
    1) Sync Music - All songs and Playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method. You'll find this in the Music Tab.
    2) Sync Music - Selected playlists. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer. You'll find this in the Music Tab.
    3) Manually manage music and videos. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod. You'll find this in the Summary Tab.
Note: When changing from automatic to manual, check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting.

  • 2 iPod's, 2 Library's, 1 computer - HELP

I have never worked with anything so frustrating!
Everything was fine until we purchased an iPod for my husband at Christmas. Since he set up his library on our computer, I have not been able to access my library (yes 6 months of not being able to load new music or download the TV show I had previously purchased. Today I finally discovered the use of the shift key during the start of iTunes which allowed me to pull up my library. HOWEVER, some of the songs have an ! beside them. What does this mean and how do I get these songs to play?
Also, now when I try to use the shift to pull up his library I can see his folder but I don't see the library file. What I do see is multiple folders with each folder being a separate artist.
Help!!!! We want to both be able to use our iPods!

    Hello, bbartley.
Sorry to see your having issues with your iTunes.
As far as the ! goes which is located by each song, movie, etc. What this means is that iTunes can not find the source where the file once originated.
Example: iTunes is told to take a song "Rock Rock Rock" from Folder A. It loads into iTunes, Will show in iTunes, Play in iTunes, and copy to an iPod.
But lets say one day you decide to move the folder, song, or even delete the song where "Rock Rock Rock" was located. Now iTunes will give you a ! because it can not find the song where it was originally told to find it.
What has to happen, Whenever you or your husband copy new music into your own Library. Your always going to want to ensure you have a copy in the iTunes Music folder. You can do this by opening iTunes and going to Advanced-Consolidate Library this will copy all the songs in iTunes to your personal Library on the hard drive.
Now as far as not seeing your folder when you click the Shift Alt Key
You will notice when you do this it opens a window.
in this Windows you will see something in the top windows called "Look For In" That should be set to iTunes. This will show the main iTunes folder which is located in the MyDocuments/MyMusic once your in there you should then see your library as an option to choose.
If you need some screen shots let us know and someone will do their best to post a screenshot of what should bee seen on your end. Or if possible take a screenshot of what it is you see so we can better understand your issue.
    Thanks.

  • Importing one library to another..Help.

    Hi,
I've been using Aperture for a very long time now and generally I'm good are figuring stuff out..For that matter, I have rarely encountered an issue I can't fix myself. Until today.
So I have a library called "Portrait Library", I'm trying to import another library into it. The import process went well, as usual (I've done this many times already) - except this time something I have never seen and is rather problem some has occurred.
When I go to check on the images - I learned I wasn't able to edit them. I see the image in my library in icon view and in full view. However, I noticed something unsual this time in LIST view. List view shows me everything and in this case it shows that I each image had a yellow exclamation mark with a arrow (indicating referenced).
The odd thing is they should be referenced - they should be living inside of the library. I'm not sure what else to do.
    I'd appreciate any input.
    Thanks.

Referenced is "living" outside the Library in another place.  Managed would be in the Library.
Check the following for badge definitions, but sounds like these images are referenced, and the source is not connected, or otherwise not available.

  • Transfering iTunes and music library to another computer

    Hello,
I just got a new computer and I want to transfer my iTunes and music library to it. I would normally just transfer the files to the new computer, install iTunes, and rebuild my library, but there are two things: 1) I don't want to lose my playlists and 2) I have purchased music from the iTunes Music Store and I'm not sure it will play if I do it like that.
I have a feeling it has to do with deauthorizing the old computer.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Fred, to the Apple Discussions!
Here's a post on transferring your Music Library from one computer to another:

You will definitely have to authorize your new computer. And if you won't be using the old one to play purchased songs any more, you should de-authorize it. Have a look at:

  • Transferring iPod library onto another computer

I don't have a computer at home so I have had to use my work computer to upload all of my music onto my iPod. However, I am leaving my job in the near future, so I will have to erase my iPod library on my computer before I do. Will I be able to transfer my library from my iPod onto another computer in order to continue adding music/delete music?

    Tracy,
This article in the Apple Knowledge Base outlines the various options for transferring music from one computer to another:
