  • Transferring dreamweaver preferences to new user profile in CS3

I have been having Vista problems that may be caused by a
    corrupt user
profile so have created a new one and transferred files etc.
Dreamweaver treats this as a new user and file associations
    etc have all
disappeared. I have spent some time setting up everything as
    I need it
for my v hosts set up. Importing all the site definitions was
    a 2
second job. Is there a simple way to transfer the preferences
    across as
easily or does anyone know the relevant registry location and
    procedure
that would accomplish the same in CS3 on Vista?
    Any help appreciated.

Thanks Joe - especially for speed of reply.
I think trying to be clever with moving my profiles to
    another partition
got me into this so I am being ultra careful with back ups!

  • Random pitch change of Virus TI since opening Logic 8 in new user account?

Earlier I set up a new user account and opened Logic 8, it said it needed to scan for.. I think plugins. Ive since opened Logic in my regular user account, and all the Logic channels using the Virus have a weird pitch change. Ive moved the notes around and cant find the right ones so its def pitch.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

    Hey Mike,
I was a cLab / Notator user back in the day. On Atari,. Then on Windows. Then when Apple bought them out, I cross graded to a G4 (about 10 years ago) - developed 3 musicals, fully scored notation, etc. The G4 Died, so I invested in a shiny new MacPro tower last year.  Am on Logic Pro 9.x.x (whatever the most current version of 9 is)
Was on Snow Leopard,  Now upgraded to LION.
Got a request for one of my old pieces and went to load it for print... I got the:
"The format of this file is not compatible with this Logic Pro version.  Please load first into Logic Pro version 7.2.1 or earlier"
I started trying to open other files and the older ones don't even give an error, they just fail without message. Some that I opened (when I suspect I was at 7.0) open fine.  Some give the message above.
I did not keep my older versions of Logic around. Didn't see the point, nor would I have imagined Apple making this product NOT be backwardly compatible.  The music industry is dredged in use and reuse of old material, and this is extremely ignorant of the Logic Pro team to do.
I really can't uninstall LION at this point, either.
I have probably 50 files that fall into the "can't get there from here" category now.
    Thoughts / Solutions?

  • Transferring from old to new user account

My existing user account is corrupted, and will not allow my Mac G5 (non-intel) to boot the desktop items; it only gets past the log in stage. In order to access my files, I created a new user account, and am able to transfer my files across easily enough. However, the problem is of course that I have lost quite a few settings, e.g. iTunes account and music/movie files, Safari bookmarks etc.
If I reinstall Leopard, will this fix the user account?
If not, is there a way to transfer the settings from one account to another? I have tried copying and pasting into the relevant directories, but this does not appear to work with either iTunes or Safari.
I would be most grateful for any advice.
    Thank you.

  • Can't open GB files in new user account

I created a new user account just to use GarageBand as I've seen recommended here. I gave the new acct. permission to use the GB app.
I copied the GB folder with all the project files from my Home>Music folder to the new account's Public folder (Finder won't allow me to copy it to the Drop Box in the Public folder). I had to enter my admin password to do this and it took a few minutes to copy all the files.
Then I log out and open the new account and I move the GB folder from the Public folder to the Home>Music folder. But the projects won't open. I can see the red minus sign next to each file and the error message that comes up says the format is not correct.
    What have I done wrong?

i used two machines, one for recording (a wee 800Mc iBook with 640MB and a FW drive), and another for mixing and Mastering (a 2.1Gc iMac, at the time).
the iBook could handle around 12-14 recorded tracks, and when it came to the heavy lifting (mixing/Mastering), the iMac handled a couple of projects that grew to around 54-55 tracks without any problem, so I never found myself in a position where i needed to do anything special to get what i needed to do done.
the only special thing i did was always log-out/in to the iBook before a recording session so that i was working from a clean slate.

  • Restoring keychain & other user files to new user

My HD died & Apple is replacing it. I have recent backups of my Keychain & other user settings on my iDisk that I want to restore when I get my Mac back (5 days to put in a new HD!)
The new user & password that Apple is setting up on the new HD is going to be different than on my defunct drive, so I'm wondering if I'm going to run into problems restoring my backups to a new user name.
Are there specific steps I need to take to have the old files usable by the new user?
    thanks

The new user & password that Apple is setting up on the new HD is going to be different than on my defunct drive, so I'm wondering if I'm going to run into problems restoring my backups to a new user name.
Create another new account, same as your old account, why not?
    Nothing preventing or stopping you.
Most defunct drives can be reformatted with zero-all option and might still work, unless it really was a hard crash (rare) and the head "dived" into the platter or something.

  • Migrating User files to new User ID on New Mac?

I bought a new iMac for my work to replace a PC.
I am planning to try Migration Assistant on initial Start Up of a new iMac, and would like to migrate mainly all Mailboxes & folders, Calendar, Contacts.  I had planned to do this from the office PC but that has never worked apparently due to all the endless safety restrictions in the Windows PC.
While I don't have everything on my home Mac, I do have the last year's work mail accounts, the calendar and contacts, which I set up manually.
I know that on initial start up, the new Mac will ask if I'd like to migrate files from another Mac.  I would like to name the new computer a totally different name than my home mac (like "OfficeMac")
My question is:  If I migrate on initial set up from my current user on my home mac (my name) to a new user name (office), will I still be able to move all the mail, folders, etc and access & use them or is the system going to think permissions for these are only for the old user (my name) from the mac it migrated from???
    Many thanks

Okay - in case this helps anyone else.  This totally worked.  On initial set-up it migrated everything, however it does not ask you to create a new User Name, but it migrated all my stuff including the accounts.
I did not want my account name used, just the same mail, calendar, etc.  So....
While there seems to be a lot of postings saying you cannot change the name of your User Account, I don't know why, because you can indeed.
    You have 2 choices:
You must be logged in as an Admin on another Login (I already had 2)
    Choice 1
    You go to System Preferences>Users
    Unlock the lock,
Highlight the User you want to change
In the area called "Full Name" just change the name!
This however will not change the name of the home folder which is also what I wanted.  That is a little more involved but this absolutely worked:
    Choice 2

I am running Mountain Lion on a new iMac (Oct 2013) - I have no idea if this works on anything older.
    Good luck and thanks!

  • Move Files To New User Account.

    Hello,
I set up a new account with admin access and noticed that I didn't have access to all data like movies, documents as well as app registrations! I would like to move my files to the new acc and delete the old one. Should I move the support files and delete the old acc, or should I start over?

As an admin user, you can change the permissions on the folders. Use "Get Info" on the folders and at the bottom add yourself as a new user. You'll need to click on the padlock to unlock it. And, after you add yourself, click on the little star dialog box and select, "Apply to all enclosed items..."
What was wrong with the old user account? Why did you add a new one?

  • Copy files to new user account

    Hi,
When I first installed OS Mavericks, my macbook got super slow. Mail and actualy everything with a connection to iCloud froze my computer. After some searching I found that creating a new account was the sollution. Since I have created a new user account everything goes ok again. I just can't get my files from my old account to my new one. Every time there comes a forbinen sign on the folder.
I tried to copy them via my Root user, and via the shared folder in the User folder, but nothing helps.. It's probbebly very easy, but i can't find it.
    Any help?
    Regards,
    Maarten

Have you tried using the shared folder under Users on the main hard drive where Applications, Library, and Systems are?

  • Migration tool moves files to new user

    Hi
I have a new imac and the migration tools works fine. i have migrated "my music" and now i am trying to migrate "my photos" but the tool wants to create a new user and my photos end up being associated with this new user rather than my account, i.e. i can't seem to move them between users. any thoughts on how i migrate the photos across to my user account or how i move them from a new user to my account?
    Cheers

You move them manually, either from the old computer or by dragging the other account's home folder to the desktop and authenticating yourself.

  • Migrated files and New User Account

    Hello,
New Mac user here.  I successfully migrated all the content from my old PC onto my Mac Mini and it was put into a new user account.  I'd like to transfer this content into the Admin account and delete the added user.  What's the best way to go about doing this?  Thanks so much!

Use Quicktime Player version 7 instead of Quicktime 10.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".

  • Transferring Logic Files...

I need to transfer my Logic files from my G4 to my Intel Mac. I realize that this is done in the set-up assistant via firewire. Are there any problems that I should be aware of? I obviously would install 7.2 first then run this transfer. I would just hate to lose files.

Run the migration asst. Keep your originals handy. I have experienced very very few problems from this procedure. Remove originals as they are verified. Mig Asst will copy.

  • Transferring logic 9 to new laptop

I bought an Imac 2 years ago with logic express 9 pre-installed. I am buying a new macbook pro soon and I need to know how to tansger logic express 9 to my new laptop. Any suggestions?

If Apple pre-installed LE9 for you, the installation disc & serial number should be included with your OS and applications installation discs and manuals.  Your license allows you to install Logic on two computers as long as you are the only user and use it on one computer at a time.
If you did not get an LE9 installation DVD & serial number or cannot find it, or if you're hoping to have LE9 pre-installed on your new MacBook using your same license, I think you will need to contact Apple Support:  http://www.apple.com/contact/

  • Transferred all files to new computer. My iTunes does not find my music.  The "scan for media" button doesn't work and I cannot get the iTunes to see the music that is clearly on my new computer.

I am stumpted.  I transferred and have all my music in my iTunes folder on my new computer and I also have it on an external hard drive.  I've added the new computer to the list of authorized computers and followed the "advanced" preferences options to select my iTunes folder and still nothing happens. No music, no playlists, NOTHING. The I am completely shocked that none, NONE of the apple support pages can help me.  I have Windows 8.1.  Please can someone help me.  I cannot believe how hard this is.

  • Im a Logic Pro X new user and Im having trouble once I download the additional content. I dont know how to use it. Is used as a plug in or what? Anyone who can help me I will be very greatful

Although I can download the additional content im not able to use it as i dont know if this should appear as a new plug in or an audio unit.

The additional content relates to the stuff that is already included with Logic. So, for example, when you download extra kits for Drummer, they go into the folder that has the So-Cal kit and the other kit that downloads when you do the intial install of Logic.
Same with Bass instruments, Guitar instruments, Orchestral stuff. If you had a look at what came with Logic in the initial install, and then looked in those same places afterwards, there's a whole bunch more stuff in there.
