Transfering music and photo library

My main computer with my Itunes library has crashed and can not be recovered. Is there a way to transfer my music and photos that are on my Iphone to my new computer? When I try to manage the library, Itunes wants to erase my my iphone library and replace it with the one on the new computer which holds no songs or photos (it's new). I using a PC with windows XP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated??

For music, if it is music purchased from iTunes, you can cancel the message asking to sync and erase the iPhone. Then from the File menu select "Transfer Purchases From..."
This will copy your purchased music, videos and applications to the computer.
For photos, the camera roll can be imported using Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard.
The non-camera role photos can be emailed to yourself. There is no other way to get them off the iPhone.
Contacts and Calendars will Sync over.

  • Import music and photo library from i pad to mac book pro

i had a problem with the hard drive of my mac book pro and sold all conents. I now want to put the music and photo library and import it on the mac. it does not allow me to do it. what is the best way to do it so i have my library again on the mac books?

You should be able to copy iTunes purchased music back via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, but for music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs), and if you don't have a copy of it anywhere else, then you will need a third-party program to copy it back from your iPad - there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy it : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
If you've changed the hard-drive on your Mac you may also find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
For photos, if they were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then on a Mac you can use Image Capture, iPhoto or Aperture to copy them off : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to an iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • Transfering Music and Photos to New MacBook

Hi.I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro and have just recently purchased a brand new MacBook. I was wondering what the best way to transfer all my music and photos to my new mac would be. I have a big external hard drive so would it be worth just copy the root folders on to my external and then transferring them to my new Mac. There is a lot of junk on my old MacBook so I don’t want a straight transfer I just want to be able to transfer the items that I want to keep.
    Thanks Matt

If you have a FireWire Cable, then another idea could be Target Disk Mode, which is explained here:

  • Transfering music and photos

hi, iam trying to transfer music, photos, and doc from imac to powerbook,
i have done the firewire connection but can not find the relevant files to drag over, ihave already moved some applications, but need help to find file. also where do i move music and pics to.??

Assuming you're talking about your iTunes and iPhoto music and photos, they're in your user folder. Open your user folder and you'll see a 'Music' folder, inside which you'll find a folder named iTunes. Just copy that to the 'Music' folder in your new user folder on your new computer. In your user folder you'll also find a 'Pictures' folder, inside which is a file called iPhoto Library. Again, just copy that to the 'Pictures' folder in your new user folder on your new computer.
Now all this assumes you've used the default settings which consolidates all your music and pictures into these two locations.

  • Set time capsule as my music and photo library?

    Hi there,
I have a new Time Capsule, i have made the first back up copy, and i think it goes ok.
    My question now is:
i would like to delete all my music and photos from my laptop, and set my library in the Time capsule, so i can have more room in my laptop which is a real problem right now.
Is it possible? I guess from now on, all the copies it makes will NOT have the music and photos, but in the one i alredy did they will appear, wont they? so i can set this one as my library....
    Thanks,
    Crespo

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Transferring Music and Photo Files from Mac OS 10.5 to iOS 6.0

    Hello,
I recently purchased an iPad 4 that runs iOS 6.0. I would like to transfer my music and photo libraries from my iMac that runs OS 10.5.8 ((Leopard). My iMac is network wirelessly on my LAN along with an iBook, printers, and a PC. I understand that I'm not able to add the iPad to the network, unfortunately. However, I found an app (Good Reader) that lets me create a WiFi connection between my iMac and iPad, but only transfer files into the Good Reader app itself.  Can someone suggest a workaround to be able to transfer my music and photo libraries so I can use them on the iPad? thank you very much for any ideas.

Sync the content using iTunes on your computer.

  • Transferring music and photo's

I have a Desktop PC...Macbook Pro...Ipad..Iphone...Imac in my home.  My music and photo's are on my Macbook Pro and whenever I want to update my Iphone or Ipad I connect to to my Macbook Pro.  Now I would like to update everything from my Desktop PC.  What is the easiest way to move my music and photo's from my Macbook Pro onto my desktop PC so I can, going forward, connect my Iphone or Ipad to my Desktop PC in order to update everything.  I do also have an Icloud account.  Thank You.

Moving iTunes Music from one computer to another or an external drive - HT1449 - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449.
For iPhoto, launch iPhoto, select "photos" in the left column, then go up to "edit" in the top menu bar, and select "select all".  Now go to the top menu bar - file / export - when the export window opens, change the "jpeg quality" to maximum, and change the "file name" drop down to "use title", then click "export".  Another window opens, and you want to select "desktop", then "new folder" in the bottom left.  Name the folder, then click create.  Now click OK in the bottom right.
Once the export is finished, move the folder to an external drive, and then to the other computer.

  • Music and photo transfers

. I am new to i pods. Have had mp3 players but not i pods. Just bought a nano.I have watched the tutorials on the i pod fir transferring music and photos but have some questions. If i want to transfer just individuak songs from different artists can I do that by dragging them onto the i pod icon once i set it to handle music manually. If i just check the songs in my i tunes library will that do it. Also it says i tunes will start to transfer automatically once the Nano is hooked up. I dont want it to do that since i have 3500 songs on i tunes. second question is for photos. I use photo elements. I again just want to transfer a few pictures of my daughter onto Nano not whole library. Can this be done. My last question is about the contact list on the i pods. I use netscape as opposed to outlook. Can the info be transferred or do i have to use outlook. Everyone has been very helpful on these forums and i appreciate it.

Yes, you can set iTunes to manully manage songs, yes you can selectively rip songs, and you can set a folder for your images to synch from but I would also recommend reducing you images. Full screen images I like I usually reduce 25-42% in size and apply an unsharp filter to bring back some detail and then save for web to maximise space in the Nano's memory. This usually results in images from 4kb to 15kb. No sense in carting around megapixel resolutions if they're going to only be displayed on a postage stamp sized screen.

  • I used the migrator utility to transfer music and picture from my old PC and now I have 2 accounts on my new Mac, how can I get back to one account and still have the music and photos transfered ?

I used the migrator utility to transfer itunes and photos from my old PC to my new Mac and ended up with 2 accounts on my new computer. How do I transfer the music and photos and only have the 1 account on the new Mac ?

That's not easy.  The Windows migration tool makes a new user account, and you can't prevent it.
You may be able to transfer what you want manually, but it's not quick or easy.  See Transferring files from one User Account to another.

  • Music and photos transferred into itunes and iphoto from external hard drive on to my new hard drive installed in my 2007 macbook

I just installed a new 250 GB SATA hard drive on to my 2007 macbook computer as the old one failed.  I had backed up my old hard drive on to a 250 GB external hard drive using time machine via a USB cord.  I am having trouble locating my music and photo files to transfer them into itunes and iphoto on my new hard drive.  I have signed in to my itunes account, where it shows my app and book purchases, but not my music purchases.  I have over 1,000 songs purchased.  Any help would be appreciated- Thanks!

    Hi aourada,
Since you have a current Time Machine backup of your computer you should be able to use the Migration Assistant to recover your music and photos.

  • Transfering bookmarks and photos  to new Macbook

I just got a new Macbook Pro and I would like to transfer my bookmarks, music and photos from my old imac. what is the best way. I tried Migration Assistant but that just transfers your files, apps, and network settings.

    1. Use a USB flash drive to transfer data.
    2. Use an external USB or Firewire drive to transfer data.
    3. Connect both computers to our network and transfer wired or wirelessly.
    4. Use Target Disk Mode to copy data from one computer to another.
Your bookmarks are located in /Home/Library/Safari/ folder. Your iPhoto library is located in the /Home/Pictures/ folder. Your iTunes data are located in the /Home/Library/Music/iTunes/ folder (copy the entire folder.) Be sure to also copy the preference files for Safari, iPhoto, and iTunes located in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. They will start with "com.apple." and end in ".plist."
Here's a list of stuff you can move:
Folders You Can Move to Your new Mac
From the Home folder copy the contents of Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
    For FireFox:
    /Home/Library/Applications Support/FireFox

  • Can i share music and photos between two users on the same machine?

How can I share my music and photos between two users on the same machine?

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!
