Transfering Music from old PC to new one

Is there a way for me to use my I-Pod to transfer my I-Tunes playlist from my old PC to my new one? I am hesitant to sync it as it may delete everything off the IPod. Thanks in advance!

I have a rather specific issue to resolve. Having very recently bought a new computer, I planned to transfer all of my itunes over using my ipod. Unfortunately, my 14 month old ipod (80GB video) failed as it was being charged - it blipped and died on me. I have tried different methods of charging and it does not work. So with an ipod just out of warranty I have now got over 1000 songs on an old computer without a CD burner. I have this new computer, and I have just bought a new ipod. It does not like connecting to my old computer. I have a separate external back up device (an external hard drive I think) which will work on both computers. Can you please advise how I can transfer all of my songs using this external drive? My email is [email protected] Many thanks for your help.

  • Moving music from old pc to new one

Can someone please help me as I am going out of my mind with frustration here. I am trying to move my Itunes music library from my old pc to my new laptop which is windows vista. Ive an ipod mini, and after following the instructions to the letter from the help article in how to do this, after 3 attempts, its not worked, itunes does not see the music I copied over. My new machine is authorised and the library appears to have copied over ok although I can't open it, but I know it contains the files as its the same size as the one I copied. Can anybody give me some easy to follow instructions or suggestions as to how I can rectify this...many thanks....Caz

I am with you on this one. I transferred all my iTunes library to this new PC. I have tried everything, including putting the music folders in Windows Media Player first, then dragging them to iTunes. But Media Player wont even tqake them.
Seems like a common issue with transferring iTunes from one PC to another PC. All my iTunes on PC #1 was burned from CDs to Itunes library. Folders appear in a .wma format. They are on the new PC. So, how do I geAt iTunes on the new PC to accept them into the library?

  • Having trouble transferring music from old PowerBook to new iMac

I'm having trouble transferring my iTunes music from my old PowerBook to my new iMac.  Trying to follow the online instructions by using an external hard drive to transfer from one to another.

    Hi Skingz,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Is the external hard drive that you are working with formatted for Mac OS Extended Journaled?   Is there enough space on it?
The process is the same regardless of the operating system you are using:
OS X Mountain Lion: View information about your disk
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11086
Formatting erases the contents of the external drive so be cautious.  Also this process is for any application, not just Aperture:
Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3509
Try the steps in the article again.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
If you are still not able to copy the library to your new computer this way, then the alternative approach would be to copy the music folder from your old computer to the external drive, and then add the music folder to your new, empty iTunes library on the iMac.   You'll have to recreate your playlists, etc, but at least you will have the music.

I hope this information helps ....

  • Transferring music from old PC to new mac

    Hey guys,
I recently sold my alienware to buy the new macbook pro. That being said, I never had both computers ar the same time - I sold one, then bought the other like a week after. Now, as I try to transfer all my iPhone's data into my new macbook, It seems that the only option for my music is to erase it. This has struck me as an enormous inconvenience; Is there a way-simply put-to plug in my iPhone to my new mac and transfer all its music to the mac's library?
    Thanks in advance,
    Omarjr50

    Welcome to the discussions,
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your iphone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought music from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your iphone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How to transfer music from old computer to new one

The logic board is shot on my old iBook. I bought a new one. I can access the old one through target disk mode. I replaced the iTunes folder on the new one with the iTunes folder from the old one but the music doesn't show up in the library. If I go to the iTunes music folder and click on a song it gets added to the new library, but I have 4000 songs. My admin user name is the same on both computers. What's the secret?

    Hi
    Follow this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Where the article talks about using an iPod you simply transfer directly between the old hard drive and the new hard drive.

  • Transferring music from old external to new external

Using itunes 8.02 with vista, and trying to move music from my current external drive to a new external drive. I had success last year moving music from my internal to my external, and using the same technique I didn't have the same results.
I originally tried checking 'keep music organized' and 'copy files to itunes music folder' under edit -> preferences -> advanced tab. Then I changed itunes music folder from the old external to the new external, and expected the music to be copied from the old to the new. This did not happen.
Then I tried copying the music from the old to the new, and change the itunes music folder from the old to the new. But, when i changed the music folder, all the music still referenced to the old drive.
I'm unsure about how to do this, and i'm trying to make sure I don't loose all my setting, artwork, ratings, etc....
    Thanks!

Ok, i have a similar question. I just got a new pc; my music etc was stored on an external HD, but now I can put it all on my pc. After a fresh install of itunes, I tried dragging and dropping the itunes music folder from my hard drive into itunes; after it was all done transferring, it still only transfered a third from my itunes folder from the hard drive to the itunes folder on the pc. any suggestions?

  • Transferring data from old iphone to new one

Here's the problem. I ordered the iphone4, but with the backorder delay taking longer than expected, I will find myself on vacation with my old 3gs and G4 Macbook Pro. My 3gs is synced to my intel imac (which I'm keeping at home).
When my new iphone4 arrives it will be sent to me while I'm on vacation. I'd like to activate the new phone right away, but how will I be able to transfer the data and apps and music from the old phone to the new. I'm concerned that:
    1. If I sync the 3gs to the laptop (G4 Macbook Pro) I may lose all my contacts and apps.
    2. Will I be able to sync the iphone4 to my G4 Macbook Pro?
Any advice, red flags or words of wisdom?

Which OS are you using on the MacBook Pro?
Do you have enough space to copy your entire iTunes folder to your MacBook Pro?

  • Transferring music from old iPod to new Apple ID

I recently purchased my 1st iPhone and changed my Apple ID when I did.  I just tried logging into my iTunes on my PC for the 1st time since and my music from my iPod is no longer there.  When I connect my iPod to the computer, I can see the music under the iPod and "On this iPod".  How do I transfer the music to my music in iTunes so that I can transfer it to my iPhone?
Thanks in advance for your help!

your AppleID is like your SSI# you cannot transfer infromation from one to the other. what ever you purchased under the old AppleID is linked to that ID only.

  • Transferring music from old Mac to new ipad

How do I transfer already purchased iTunes items from an old MacBook to my new ipad air?  Seems like the technology of old Mac and new ipad air don't speak to each other.  I tried to download from iTunes but none of the music from the old system downloads. Can someone suggest how I can move them?

Upgrade the computer to at least Mac OS X 10.6.8 and then sync the iPad Air normally.

  • Transferring music from old iphone to new iphone without primary synced laptop

i have an iphone 5 that was synced to a laptop i no longer have, i now have a new iphone is there any way to get my music from my first phone to a new laptop to then put on my new phone? please help i have all the apps and photos and contacts transferred but i cant get my music back

Try a synch with iTunes on your computer again.  This time, while the iPhone 5 is plugged in, click on its icon on the left, then the "Music" tab on the right.  Choose the correct music sync option (to sync music and playlists).  Then clock "Apply" in the lower right.

  • Transferring music from old computer to new computer

How do I transfer my itunes music library from my old to new computer?  I will not have both computers hooked together so plan to do this using an external hard drive.  Is there a code to input in my new computer/itunes so the previously downloaded music can play on the new computer.  I'm going from XP Home to Windows 7.

    dwb
Yes I think it is better to use the same account name. The thing that's puzzled me is Apple make no mention of the issue of account name in their transfer instructions.
From some experiments on my PC moving my music folder around, I think what iTunes does is to check in the music folder if it can't find a track in the library.
If you move the music folder, the existing tracks are not moved. But if you move a folder from the old to the new location using Windows, iTunes seems to notice that you did it and doesn't mind. Also if you move the music folder back to it's original location, iTunes is quite happy with that too.
I think the effect of this is that although the path name for tracks is wrong when you copy the library file to the new PC, iTunes finds the tracks as long as they are in the new iTunes Music Folder
It is a nuisance that the library file is encrypted so you can't see what it is up to.

  • Transferring itunes from old computer to new one

I need to transfer my itunes songs from my old computer to my new one. I am going to donate my old computer, so I'll wipe it clean once I'm done. I just wanted to know if there is an efficient way to transfer songs to a new computer since I already did a lot of work loading songs onto the old one!
    Thanks!

  • Transferring files from old computer to new one

I just purchased an HP Envy 700 series and am trying to transfer my files from my old computer.  My problem is that the old computer has a fried motherboard so I put the old hard drive in an external case and hooked it up to the new computer to transfer the files.  When I try to access the "users" folder on the old drive I get a message telling me I don't have permission to access the folder.  Is there anything I can do to get past this?

The OS on the old computer was Windows 7 Home and the new one is Windows 7 Pro.
I have developed a work around for my problem.  I put the old hard drive in an external case and then hooked it up to my laptop.  I then lower the User Account Control setting to its lowest setting (after I turn off my access to the internet) and then I am able to access all the files in the account that was blocked before.  It is tedious trying to transfer many GB's of data using a thumb drive but it is getting done.

  • Music from Old Ipod to New One

I recently cracked my 6th generation ipod Nano that has over 600 songs on it and I want to buy a new Nano but because most of my songs on the Nano are from a computer I no longer have the hard drive for I am wondering how I can get the songs from that ipod onto a new one without losing any of the music??

If the songs on your mini are not on your computer then you need to take the tracks from the mini and put them in iTunes, you can't transfer from iPod to iPod. If they are on the computer then all you need to do is connect your new iPod and it will update automatically. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod and return them to iTunes. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
