hi i have no doubt there is a simple way to do this but it seems to elude me i have just bought a zen vison M i have an old zen sleek 20gb (was getting to small and wanted to save photos) how do i get the music off it and onto my new player.

hmm sort of figured it out but it sure aint pretty?

Yes you can remove music from your iPod. When you plug in your iPod that has the music, you just need to select Transfer Purchases instead of Sync, this will transfer your purchases from your iPod with the music into iTunes and then you can sync the purchases from iTunes to your new iPod Touch.

But as stated earlier there is no way to transfer music to a brand new Apple ID without having to purchase it again as all music is tied into the Apple ID used at time of purchase.

Apple TV won't play music from one device via Home Sharing.

So I have just bought a new Mac, with which I got an Apple TV. I'm trying to save disk space on my Mac so I've setup my old computer (with my old iTunes library) as a Home Sharing hub kind of thing. However, the Apple TV seems not to want to play music from this device...it shows the song, but the buffering symbol comes up under the song and nothing happens. Sometimes some songs will work, and shuffling also seems to work, but it will randomnly skip some songs without even attempting playback.
I've tried playing the same music on the Apple TV via Home Sharing on my Mac — fine. I've tried listening to the music (and just generally playing music) using Home Sharing from my old laptop to my Mac and it's fine, impressively speedily, in fact.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what may cause this?

I added my music to iTunes years ago. Most of it was with version 6.x of iTunes. I see all of my music and it plays fine so something else must be triggering the problem.
I also have 'Show list checkboxes' checked.

I recently purchased a new version of the iPod touch. ( iPod 5?) The music from the older touch will not transfer to the newer version. All music is currently stored on the iPod, not the computer. Sorry if this sounds mind boggling, but how do I get the music onto the computer to then put it onto a flashdrive to transfer to another iTunes account and another iPod? I'm not sure if it is even possible due to legal issues with concerns for people selling music, but are there any options? (iOS 4.2.1)

Set up a second itunes account on a different computer user. How do I transfer the music from the original account to the second account?

All of the files should be stored on the hard drive and accessible from either account so long as you made the new account an administrator account. You would just need to navigate to wherever you have the music stored on your hard drive.
File > Add Folder to Library
Then select the folder, wherever it may be stored on your hard drive.

I changed from vista to windows 7 ultimate and now when i try to sync or get music from one device to antoher it basicly will not do it and wants to wipe my music because it is now not associated with my itunes?

Did you backup all your documents and data first? Normally your user profile contains a Music folder which in turn holds the iTunes folder. All the important details of your library are in there, with the media below in a folder called iTunes Media. If you lose this information and then connect your device to an empty iTunes library it will want to clean it out the device and start over.
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

I'm transferring my music off of one computer to another using my new 30G ipod - and have followed instructions online - my ipod has been doign something and is saying do not disconnect for about over an hour - does anyone know if that is normal when making your ipod a hard drive? Thanks.

Your iPod has disk use enabled, so you must eject it otherwise that message will continue to appear.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. There is also an iPod 'eject' icon in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.

Can a free app be transferred over from one device to another without iTunes?

I am developing a free app for users and would like to promote the app at various festivals and events at our booth. Other than the user locating the app through the App Store/iTunes or going to our website to download the app, is there any quicker way of transferring the app onto their iPhone? Whether it be having a cable tethered from my iPhone/iPad to theirs and transferring it over or having an app that actually transfers our app to a users phone that accepts it... Similar to the app that exchanges contact information just by tapping the two iphones to each other or near each other.

I am confused as to how I go about trnasferring all music and purchased items from my iPhone to a new iPod classic, as my phone currently has no space to store any more music. Yes and no. Apple does allow for downloading of past purchases via iTunes, it would require installing iTunes on that computer and logging in/authorizing with your account.

Might be a good idea to find out what is "broke" with your comptuer and if it can be fixed... unless it went up in flames, there's a very good chance it can be fixed at minimal cost.

I have a lot of music in my older iMac G5 and want to transfer some of it into my newer 27" iMac but none of the prompts they say should be there show up - both units have share turned on but nothing happens - is there a simple way, outside of burning my entire playlist 1 CD at a time and then manually loading each Cd into the new unit? Seems like this should be as simple as loading tunes into an iPod.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
There is more than one way, but to get it all on all devices, connect the first device to iTunes and choose to transfer the music from the device from the file menu. Once everything is in iTunes connect the second device, select the device in the device list, navigate to the music tab and check the content you wish to sync, click apply/sync.

Can I download music onto one device from 2 different accounts?

I have recently downloaded all my music from one account onto my ipod, but I also want my other music which is on a different account. The other account is for my iphone and want to keep the 2 seperate accounts. If I log out of the account I'm currently on, will it remove all of the music I have just downloaded?
