Transfering music into Itunes

I have about 2000 songs on my computer currently stored in Musicmatch. I am having problems getting them to move to Itunes. Whne they move Itunes makes a copy of everysong thus killing the free space on my harddrvie. Can anyone help me out with this?

You can import an audio file (or all the audio files in a folder) into your iTunes library.
You can only copy music to your iPod using iTunes. To copy music from MusicMatch Jukebox or Audible Manager to your iPod, you'll need to first import the music into iTunes.
Here are ways to import an audio file into your iTunes library:
To import an individual audio file, choose File > Add File to Library, and then locate the music file you want added to your library.
To import all the audio files in a folder, choose File > Add Folder to Library, and then locate the folder containing the audio you want added to your library. The My Music folder (inside the My Documents folder) is often the default location for song files imported into other applications, such as MusicMatch.
By default, adding songs to your iTunes library places a pointer to each audio file in the iTunes Music folder; the original file remains in the current location. For information about copying files to the iTunes Music folder instead of referencing them, search help for "copying files to your music folder."
If the file is an unprotected WMA file and you have Windows Media Player Series 9 or later installed, iTunes makes a copy of the file in AAC format—or whatever format is chosen in the Advanced pane of iTunes preferences (in the Importing pane) —and adds it to your iTunes library. The original WMA file remains unchanged. You can't add protected WMA files or protected WMV files to iTunes.

  • When transfering music into itunes, music not showing in itunes app, but songs are in music folder.

when i transfered many songs from external hard drive into itunes library, the songs do not appear after transfer completes. it appears as if songs are being added to library. when i search through itunes app, songs are missing, when i go to the folder on computer that holds my itunes library songs are there. any help?
latest version of itunes with windows 7.
    thanks

Create a smart playlist that would match one of the albums. I suspect you'll find the tracks show up in it...
My guess is that something has gone wrong with the internal index of the Music playlist. Download the current iTunes Free Single of the Week. I know it sounds odd, but it should  fix the problem.
If that doesn't work close iTunes and delete the hidden file sentinel from inside the main iTunes library folder, then start iTunes again. iTunes should run a consistency check when it starts up which ought to clear up any anomalies.

When I transitioned from a PC to a Mac, I transferred all of my music into iTunes, however when I go to play songs, iTunes tells me it cannot locate the file. What do I do?

iTunes cannot find your music files. Find them on your computer and make sure they're in ~/Music/iTunes. If they are not, then drag all the files into the iTunes app.

  • When I download music into Itunes and move songs into playlists, Itunes has twice randomly deleted all recently added songs from the playlists they have been added to.  It is driving me crazy.  Has anyone else had this problem?

When I download music into Itunes on my PC, every song is transferred into a specific playlist.  Twice now when I have opened up Itunes, all the recent songs that have been moved into playlists have been deleted by Itunes.  I now have to go back and figure out which songs are missing and re-add them.  It is driving me crazy. I have 10,000 songs and now have no idea which ones are missing and which ones have been retained.
Please help.  Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hi TRuss08,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like songs are missing from iTunes on your PC, and need to be re-added. I know that can be a frustrating situation.

  • How can I get my (vinyl) record music into iTunes Match?

I have a rather large collection of music on CDs, Tapes, and records.
Now that iTunes Match exists I would like to include all of my music into my iTunes library.
There is no easy way (that I know of) to load anything except CDs into iTunes. So for the rest of the library one must either buy all the music again or buy equipment to play the music one time and convert it to a newer format.
My CD collection is mostly loaded and since 99.999% (virtually all) of that music is already in iTunes Match it is not uploaded to iTunes again, but it quickly becomes available to play on all my iTunes Authorized Devices.
With the exception of that 1 in ten thousand songs that I may have that iTunes does not have in the Match library there is no reason to import the music at all - other than to prove I have the actual CD's. (In any case I suppose I could have borrowed them for that anyway.)
However for CDs at least they can be imported - but for tapes and records I know of no direct way.
With something state-of-the-art like iTunes Match and my PC(s), iPhone(s) and iPad, why use stone-age-like means to prove ownership of outside-of-iTunes music?
Why not provide some other information to identify albums owned and have them available in iTunes Match without the 99.999% useless step of loading them?
In fact for most tape music it is no longer playable (to convert) as the rollers in the tape devices deteriorate and they no longer play.
Vinyl records play just fine, just not easily into a PC without purchase of expensive equipment that would be used only for the one-time load (which is really just for proof-of-ownership).
What a ridiculous waste of time, energy and funds for that 1 in 10,000 songs that may not yet exist in the iTunes Match library. Okay, as the music gets older it may even be 2 in 10,000 - but I doubt it.
I remember that each album (and 45 rpm single) has identifying information scratched into it (around the inside of the innermost track) - can that (or something else) suffice as proof of ownership to get the music into iTunes Match?
Please respond with ideas to quickly and easily get already-owned vinyl record music into an iTunes Match library.
I personally do not care if 1 (or 2) out of 10,000 of my songs gets lost because it is not in the iTunes Match library - couldn't be that good in that case anyway.
    Thanks!!

I too have not figured out how to convert my vinyl collection to iTunes match. Here is what I have tried:
I record my vinyl records onto CD using a Sony RCD-W500C which makes a very high quality recording. I make sure the song lengths are the same as those from the same album at the iTunes store.
Then I import the CD into my iTunes music library. I have to enter the names of the tracks manually because Gracenote cannot identify the names of the songs. I do this while the music is in my iTunes music library and the CD has been ejected from my PC.
Then I try to get the iTunes Match, but it never works. I do, however, get the artwork from iTunes. iTunes then uploads my songs into the iCloud. When I download them back onto my PC and iPhone 4s, I get the identicle recording that I imported onto iTunes. I know this because I can hear the static and crackling of the vinyl. I don't necessarily mind that noise, but I figured if I paid for the iTunes Match I should get the AAC 256 bps music. After all it doesn't cost iTunes anything to give it to me. And there's no way I'm going to purchase all my vinyl records again. I have about 500 albums.
I do buy all my new music from iTunes because I think it is the best system available. I just think it could be so much better if they would let me download the highest quality recording of the music I own from them.
I have also tried the Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio which records my vinyl records into a music file on my PC. But that doesn't get the match either.
THERE HAS TO BE SOMEBODY OUT THERE THAT CAN TELL US WHAT ITUNES MATCH LOOKS AT IN OUR MUSIC UPLOADS THAT DETERMINES WHETHER THEY GIVE US THE MATCH!!!!!!
When you download a CD, there is some information embedded in the CD that iTunes matches. I don't believe there is any information embeded in the vinyl albums, but when I burn them onto a CD-maybe I could add the info onto the CD before trying to match it if I just knew what they looked for.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.

  • Hi, when I upload music into itunes from a cd it sometimes appears in itunes as two different albums and split up the music in 2 or even three albums....how can i merge these albums...this is particularly true when one album may have different composers?

Hi, when I upload music into itunes from a cd it sometimes appears in itunes as two different albums and split up the music in 2 or even three albums....how can i merge these albums...this is particularly true when one album may have different composers?

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
For compilations that aren't, select all tracks, Get Info, and on the option tab set Part of a Compilation to No. If it already says No tick the box alongside, then click OK.

  • Ipod classic won't download music into itunes

When I attach my ipod classic to my computer/itunes, it won't allow me to transfer the music or playlists from my ipod to itunes. However, it allows my itouch to transfer music into itunes.

Your iPod Classic and your iTunes are both functioning normally. You can sync music, videos etc into your iPod Classic from iTunes (as you are) however you cannot do the opposite as you want to do.
There are third party software out there which can make this possible. Do a search on Google and you will run into that third party software.

  • Cannot load music into iTunes

I am having a problem loading some of my music into iTunes. I choose the folder (or even just the file) and have it load. It shows the bar analyzing files and it goes through all of the files, but then nothing happens and the music is not loaded or only a couple songs off the album are loaded. I have had thees same albums loaded on iTunes before and nothing has changed with my system or the file format since then. I had to delete them off of iTunes and try to re-add them because I did something with the id tags that messed up the info. The file format is mp3 and the files are perfectly normal (I can play them on other media players). Anyone know what is up?

Possibly. Media Go supports a variety of music formats, some of which can be imported in to iTunes and then synced on to an iPhone, however some of its formats cannot be imported in to iTunes.
See http://mediago.sony.com/enu/supported-file-formats/ for a list of formats supported by Media Go. iTunes for Windows supports MP3, AAC, WAV, and can import and convert WMA files as well. However iTunes does not support ATRAC, or FLAC.
Furthermore, if some of your music has been bought from an Internet music store it might be procted by DRM. If so it cannot be imported in to iTunes.
To do the importing you would either drag the music files in to iTunes, or tell iTunes to open them. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347

Sounds like you synced your new phone to his backup, not yours.  Reset the phone and try again. Or maybe Restore will let you resync it, I'm not going to try it on my phone to find out.

  • Importing various folders of music into iTunes

Hi all. Let me start by saying that I don't own a Windows PC. A friend of mine at work wants to import music into iTunes from folders containing MP3 files, which are already on his computer. The folders (4 of them) contain music from each of his kids. He wants to maintain the music in the respective folders in iTunes (either via smart folders or by some other means), as to not mix and match the music, or have to sit there all day and drag and drop from within iTunes (apparently he has close to 10,000 songs to deal with).
Is there any way to import these various folders into iTunes (Windows) while maintaining their respective locations/ownership? On my Mac, it's pretty simple- I could either drag and drop from the finder into iTunes, or create Spotlight Comments for each collection of songs in each folder, then create smart folders from within iTunes, and load the songs to their respective folders based on the Spotlight Comments. Any suggestions?
He's using the latest iTunes iteration, and Windows XP.
    John

To Import folders into itunes you can go to:
Itunes-->File-->Add Folder to Library. Before you
do this you have to decide if you want one library over
multiple accounts or seperate libraries for each account.

  • Set Ups Used for Vinyl Music into iTunes

Hello, With excellent advice provided by HPM3 & Tracy Reynolds recently regarding software & process used to get vinyl music into iTunes, I'm now curious as to what hardware set up people use to transfer vinyl to digital for importing into iTunes. After some research and reading reviews about usb turntables I'm now wondering which is the preferred (or best) method of this transfer process. USB Connection or PreAmp,Turntable & Line In to computer. From what I've read so far it appears the direct line in connection produces a better consistent quality of sound as opposed to USB Turntable connection. I was wondering what the majority of iTunes music lovers use to do this and what their system set ups are and connections used. I, like most people are trying to accomplish the best consistent quality of sound. Curious as to what is your set up, how connected and if you are satisfied with it considering the end result of iTunes Music. I suppose the end question is for the people who have accomplished the vinyl transfer into iTunes what do you think is the best way to do it hardware and connection wise.
    Thanks for any responses.

can anyone tell me how to download music into itunes, the present version?

Buy the music from iTunes and it downloads automatically.
There is no other way to download content into iTunes.
Importing music into iTunes is different. Is that maybe what you intended to ask?
If so, go to File > Add File/Folder to iTunes.
