I was wondering how i could transfer my music to different computers with my ipod without having to delete all of my songs on the ipod in order to transfer them?

Copy files to a flash drive. Put into other computer and drag to iTunes.

As long as the downloaded song is a format that the iPod can read, then absolutely.
I've downloaded tons of music from emusic.com, and they work find on my iPod.

Transfer iTunes Music to other computers?

You used to be able to backup your iTunes Library, and also copy individual music tracts (up to five times I think), to install on other computers in the family. I don't see a way to do that now. Can you only share music through iCloud?

I purchased a new computer and want to import music from other computers and sources to my hard drive, how do I import the actual songs and not the links?

I purchased a new computer. I would like to import all of my music from my other computers and external hard drives. I want to only import the physical songs not "Links". Also not duplicates. How do I do this?

Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the Copy... option is ticked. This will ensure any files you drag to the library get copied into your library's media folder.
If the same content appears at more than one location, or you add it more than once, then iTunes will create dupes. There isn't really any way to avoid that, but I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove them. See this thread for background.

Transferring music from different computers

I'm trying to help a friend get her CD's transferred to her iPad. She has her iPad registered with an iTunes account at home, and I don't want to change that. Is there any way that I can use my iTunes to transfer her music to her device? She is not tech savvy and I'd like to avoid her having to learn to use iTunes at this point.
When I tried to put music on her iPad, iTunes said it would have to erase the content associated with her other computer, and I didn't know the extent of what that would erase, or what would happen when she next connects to iTunes on her home computer. There must be some support doc that explains how to manage this?

Transferring Music With Two Computers/Libraries

I have two computers with music on them, latest 7.7 iTunes software for the 3G on both. I went on one put the music and videos on it no problem and I use the manually manage music so there is no syncing. On my other computer I plug it in, it loads up, then hit manually manage music, then it says "Erase and Sync" or Cancel. So I have to erase my music to put on the new stuff. How can I get around this?

I am having the same problem. It is really annoying considering that both iTunes libraries that I am trying to use are linked to my Apple ID. This whole syncing thing really does annoy me. Why should I have to sync my whole library when I just want to add one or two tracks?

I believe there that WMP files are compatible with itunes. i know that when i first loaded itunes on to my laptop, it asked if i wanted it to search for all the music on my computer. i clicked yes and it found all of my WMP files and converted them into AAC format.
also, you can click and drag your WMP files into itunes and it should automatically change their format.

The iPod Touch _does not_ support disk use. Other iPods (nano, classic) do, so you could use one of those. Or, burn a DVD. Or, get a bigger USB stick (I have some 4 GB ones; 2 GB sticks are ~£15).

Once the sync process is complete with one computer, can the iPod Shuffle be used to copy music from other computers that have not been synchronised with the it? And can one only work with the Shuffle with the computer with which it has been synchronised?

An iPod shuffle can only contain content from one iTunes library at a time. Content placed onto it through the Finder or Windows Explorer doesn't count toward the limit but can't be played on it.

Lock icon at bottom & can't access my music from other comp.

I have noticed while using my iPod video there is a lock icon at the bottom of iTunes and it doesn't allow me to access my music while using other computers. how do i remove this feature so i can play mt music.

The lock icon appears when you iPod is set to automatically update.
Set it to manually update and you should be able to play the music from other computers.

Oops, I forgot a step between 7 and 8 ... before syncing the iPhone I need to explicitly send the document back to iTunes on the iPhone, or the changes won't come over at all ...
and then one more thing ... Numbers on iOS does NOT recognize a number of key features of the OSX app, such as conditional formatting ... so after editing my document on iOS and syncing it back to OSX on my Mac, all of those settings are lost (no more conditional formatting, have to do it all over again)

If I restore my iPod to factory settings, will I lose my music that has been added from other computers, even if I've backed up my iPod?

I'm trying to clean out my iTunes and iPod, and in doing so I've realized that I have over a gig of "other" material taking up space on my iPod. One solution I was told about was to restore my iPod back to it's facotry settings (after you've backed it up) in order to help eliminate or help make the "other" section take up less space. I'm worried about doing this however seeing as my iPod has music from three or four other computers on it seeing as I manually sync music to my ipod rather than have it sync on it's own. I'm worried that even if I back the iPod Touch on my computer, that all the other music from the three or four other computers and iTunes' will be erased and only music left on my iTunes, on my laptop will be left over after words. This wouldn't be such an issue if I didn't have litterally THOUSANDS of music to sort through between these four computers.
Also, does anyone have any other solutions on how to reduce the amount that "other" takes up on your iPod? Thanks in advance! Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if you will loose your music or not, but I have a suggestion. If you sinc your ipod to your itunes, all the music from it should transfer to your itunes, it shouldn't matter whether it was downloaded on that computer or not. If you do this and then restore your ipod to factory settings and you do loose your music, then you can just sinc your ipod to your computer, or itunes account and then you will get your music back. Your previous purchases are saved on iCloud even if you bought them on another computer. If you can't find them on your current computer, you might need to unhide them. Go to iTunes preferences, and click on Store Preferences. Then click the box for "show iTunes in the Cloud purchases". Then click on OK, and everything you've ever bought from iTunes on that Apple ID will show up in your library. You will need to download them from iCloud first before you can synch them to your iPod Classic. To do this, click on the little cloud with the arrow in it next to your song, and it will download to your computer. When you have the music that you want downloaded, plug in your iPod and synch away. Hope this helps!
