Transfering my music in ipod nano to the new Video Ipod

Does anyone know how to Transfer music from one ipod to another?

"Does anyone know how to Transfer music from one ipod to another?"
You can't. At least, not directly. If the music is no longer in your iTunes, you'll need to move it from iPod to the library and from there to the new iPod.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

I have just bought an ipod classic, I already have an ipod nano.  The new ipod was connected to the computer to charge and it named itself with my name on the old nano, how do I get the computer to recognise the new one?

My mistake, it was nothing to do with format.  It woldn't sync because my movies were HD.  HD movies won't sync to an iopd classic 160 GB but when you purchase a HD movie, itunes gives you a SD vervsion of the movie which is compatible with the ipod.  Just needed to go to store, click movies, click purchased and untick the HD box and there you have the SD versions.  Download the SD versions and then sync your ipod and bobs you uncle, movies are on the ipod

  • Does the new Video iPod scratch as easily as the old?

I'm thinkig aobut getting a new 80gb Video Ipod to replace my "old" 30 GB video iPod. Does the new version scratch as easily as the old?

I've been to Bestbuy and Circuit City also, no scratches on any of the new video iPods yet. They must have switched to a scratch resistant plastic for the screens. I've looked at the new video iPods at the Apple store, Bestbuy, and Circuit City and none show the slightest scuff after a few weeks. The only scratch I saw was where someone intentionally damaged one of the screens with a knife or something.

  • Can i use my old IPOD dock with the new G5 IPOD?

Can i use my old IPOD dock with the new G5 IPOD?

That's really good to know. I thought because it was a different thickness you wouldn't be able to, and the dock adaptor that comes with the new iPods doesn't fit into the old Photo dock.
Do you know if you can use the charger that came with the old Photo iPods? You can plug straight into the power socket, but the cable that goes into the charger from the iPod is the firewire cable, so I was thinking maybe it wouldn't work, and I don't want to try it in case I short out my iPod or something!

  • IPod Nano using the new Camera Connector

I resently purchased an iPod Nano and a new Camera Connector direct from Apple. Before I did this I checked the compatability issue with both the camera and the camera connector, and with the Nano and the camera connector. All the adds at the Apple store state that the camera connector works with all ipods that have a color screen. When I connect them the screen on the ipod states "The currently attached accessory is not supported by this iPod". They advertise that you can store 25,000 photos in a Nano. Did I waste my money on a Nano and camera connector. (I already had a 4G 20GB iPod with an older Belkin Camera connector)

Yes, you may have wasted your money on the camera connector. The problem is that the camera connector has been out for a while and, at the time it was made, the only color iPods were full sized ones, and the camera worked with them. So, what they advertised was true up to the time until the Nano was released.
Now, Apple has released the Nano, which technically is a color iPod, and it dosen't work with the camera connector. The problem is that they haven't changed the advertising for other products to account for limitations of the Nano yet.

  • Can I exchange the old iPod nano for the new iPod nano?

I was wondering if I can exchange my old iPod nano for a new one even if it costs a tiny bit extra.

    Hi Deborah,
Your profile doesn't say what country you live in, but for example, if you go to the US Apple online store, you can click on the
    b Sales and Refunds
link at the bottom of the page, to find Apple's policy.
I'd suggest you dig a bit deeper into the online store site until you get to the appropriate
    b education store
    webpage, in case the
    b Sales and Refunds
links at the bottom of that page leads to a modified policy.
And even if you are past the stated
    b Refunds
period, you have nothing to lose by calling the appropriate number (eg. in the US: 1-800-676-2775) to see if you can get a Return Material Authorization, especially since you wish to order a new computer at the same time. The worst they can say is "no".
I'm assuming the iBook transaction was entirely online, but if it was instead bought through a campus bookstore to get the educational discount, the campus bookstore would then be another place to approach to see if they have different policies to the online store.
    best of luck,
    ...ben
PS. I assume you know that this is a user-to-user discussion forum, and Apple won't respond to the questions you post here? But you will certainly find empathetic, fellow Mac owners who are happy to help you if they can.

  • IPod Nano with the new iTunes 7.0

I have had no problems with my iPod before. Just yesterday I upgraded to itunes 7.0. Now, my computer says I have plugged an "unknown device" into the USB port. I have tried everything I can think of. Since my computer doens't recognize the decice, itunes doesn't either. This means that I can't get new songs on to my iPod. I can't even listen to my songs I already have because my iPod is out of battery and my computer, not recognizing it, won't charge it. My younger brother has the shuffle. He is having no problems. By the way my nano is the first kind that came out and is 2gb. If you are having the same or similar problem, or just know what to do, PLEASE HELP ME!!! Thanks!

  • Transfering my music from my Iphone to the new Itunes on my new mac

if I want to syncronise, since Itunes is empty and my Iphone is loaded with misic, I guess everything on my Iphone will go away
I guess there is a way to load what I have on my phone on Itunes but I can not find any help

You need to make sure your computer is authorized: Store>Authorize this Computer. Once done, you can transfer purchased content(DO NOT SYNC): File>Transfer Purchases. For music ripped on your own, you'll have to use third-party software to first extract from your phone:

  • Why is Apple not supporting Firewire on the new Video 60g or the Nano

Does anyone know if there is a way to enable Firewire support on the new Video IPod or NANO. I cannot believe that Apple has released this product with only USB support. I am at 1 hr to upload 1000 songs out of 9000. Absurd.
Is there an update or a way around this.

I'm a big fan of Firewire myself but I guess it's just a lot easier to switch over to USB 2.0 as the standard.
You're using USB 1.1, that's why your transfer rate is so slow.
Do yourself an enormous favor and set your iPod to Manage Manually in iPod Options to avoid accidentally Auto Updating your iPod with USB 1.1

  • TS1382 I have a new computer, how do I sync my Ipod Classic to the new computer

I have a new Dell computer, how do I sync my Ipod Classic to the new computer

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
Or better yet, if you still have access to the old computer, use one of the method described in this article copy everything from the old PC to the new one.

  • Problems with my new Video iPod

Hi, I just got a brand new black 30GB video iPod, so far it has been great. However, I've noticed a problem with the HD. Whenever the HD is spinning up and the iPod is moved you can hear the HD clunk. It also tends to make a odd whirring noise when I move the iPod around. If the iPod is moving around during startup (Apple logo appears) it will clunk and I will get the sad iPod icon. This doesn't seem right, this is exactly what my previous iPod did (20GB 4G) and that is why I got the new video iPod as a replacement. It just doesn't seem right for it to do this. Has anyone else noticed this before or do I just have bad luck with my iPod's? Secondly, I was considering buying the Apple USB power adapter. It is possible to buy a 3rd party charger for less money than what Apple wants? It's really stupid to not have a charger included on a device this expensive.
    Power Mac G5 SP 1.8 (Rev B.), iMac G3, iPod Video 30GB Black   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

The sad face icon usually means the hard drive is dead. If you're seeing it, it sounds like your hard drive is about to die. I'd exchange it or get it repaired. One thing I would do now too is to do the diagnostic on the iPod just to see if the hard drive is bad. Reset the iPod by pressing Menu and Center. Right when the Apple logo appears, quickly hold down Center and RW. Press Menu to do manual test, go to IO, go to HardDrive, and then to HDSmartData. If the hard drive is good, it gives values for retracts, reallocs, and some other numbers.
Third party USB power adapters should work fine, and yes I agree it is cheesy and cheap for Apple not to include one, which they used to when they were nicer.
