Transfering Old Playlists to New IPod

The Old Ipod fell from my bag... and it was not turned in to lost and found.. go figure. A great time to purchase the big 60 w/vido.. but I want to keep all my old playlist. Before I download the new software on my computer, I was wondering if U can tell me if my wish can come true

Hello rontar,
If your old playlists still exist in iTunes on your computer, when you connect your new iPod it will automatically sync with the library and it will be identical to what you had before.
For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • How do i move old playlists to new ipod?

I have an iPod mini and recntly got a 5the gen. iPod. I'd like to move my playlists from the mini to the 5th gen. How do I do this? Right now, the 5th gen doesn't even have my whole library on it, only purchased music. It won't let me import my existing iTunes library.

Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.

  • Transferring old data to new iPod -- will it remove new apps that come with my new one?

My old iPod Touch is a 2nd generation, IOS 4.2.1, and I now have an iPod Touch 4th generation arriving with either IOS 5 or 6.
I want to transfer my game apps progress -- which I don't want to lose!! --  from the old device to the new device, and I've found out from these discussions that I need to make a backup then restore from backup to the new device, treating it not as a new device.
But does this mean that all the new-to-me app features that come pre-loaded on my 4th generation will be wiped out in the process?
Obviously the 4th generation comes with things my 2nd generation never had, and needless to say I want those to still be there when I add all my old games and other apps.
Can anyone assure me that in the "restore from backup" to my new device, everything from my old iPod will be added to my new one, but won't replace and or wipe out of existence any new features already loaded on my new iPod?
    My priorities/worries are:
Not losing any game progress in the transfer,
But also not losing any newer factory-loaded apps or features on the newer iPod, in the transfer.
    Thanks for any assistance.

Thank you lllaass, this is reassuring!
So the "restore" adds to what's on the new iPod, not throws it all out/replaces -- good to know. Many thanks.

  • How do i delete old playlists from my ipod nano

How do I delete old playlists from my ipod nano?

    Hi Willowmet1,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can use these steps to delete a playlist from an iPod nano (7th generation):
    Delete a playlist:
1  On the Home screen, tap Music > Playlists.
2  Flick down, then tap Edit.
3  Tap next to the playlist you want to delete, then tap Delete when it appears next to the playlist.  If you tapped the wrong playlist, tap the one you want to remove.
4  Tap Delete, or tap Cancel if you change your mind.
5  When you finish, flick up, then tap Done (or swipe right to return to the Home screen if you cancel).
You can find more information and steps for other iPod nano models in the user guides found here:

  • Old music onto new ipod??

so i lost my ipod about a month ago and now i'm getting another one, and i'm pretty positive that i can't just plug in the old one...so how do i get all my old music onto my new ipod?
    THANKS

You can restore/re-install i-tunes if you relocate your ipod files to another directory and then use the inport directories command under file menu.
I found out the only problem with this is that I lost 100 dollars or more of iTunes software I paid for. I consider this a theft on Apple's part. This is because the software doesn't allow for any work around. Yes I paid for it. You heard it here first. But even though I paid for it, I cannot use it on the new fifth gen iPOD!!
That's just not right. I am supposing this is another revenue generator for Jobs.

  • Transfer playlist to new ipod

I have just replaced my ipod mini with a new one following battery problems. My playlist won't transfer to the new ipod mini. Can anyone tell me what I can do about this as I have a new ipod with no songs on it? Many thanks to any one who can help

My new ipod mini does not seem to recognise anything. When I bought my original ipod I had no trouble establishing a play list but with this one I can't seem to get it recognised by the computer. Therefore I can't get anything onto the ipod to play. Maybe I am missing part of the process and I know on another apple site it dpes say that you cannot transfer a playlist from one ipod to another! Is this also correct?
Any help would be greatly appreciated by this novice!

  • Old iTunes with new iPod

    Hi,
Here's my question. I have an older iPod from circa 2004. I want to get one of the new 'iPod videos'. If I do this can I use the new iPod with the iTunes that I have on my PC or is the iTunes only allowed to interface with the initial iPod that it was sync'd with.
    thanks guys,
    Dennis

You can use the new iPod without problems. Just make sure that all your tracks are in iTunes (i.e. you don't have any that are just on your old iPod and not in iTunes) and when you connect the new iPod, you'll be stepped through getting it set up, just as when you first connected your old iPod.
If you plan to use both iPods with the same iTunes library, take a look here:

  • Transferring songs to a new ipod

I recently bought a new Ipod Nano because I lost the old one I got for Christmas during a move. I had bought 40 songs on there and was wondering how I could transfer those songs onto my new Ipod?
    Any help would be appreciated.

After my daughter's IPOD was stolen, we were able to plug the new one into the computer and Itunes just recognized it and uploaded her songs. I don't remember if we had to allow it to "authorize" or anything, but I don't think it was a hassle.

  • Play old games on new ipod;

I purchased games with my old IPOD classic (how do I know if it's a fifth generation, a classic or a sixth generation ipod? My old ipod was 30 gig and I bought 3 games for it. After that ipod took a dive (literally), I purchased a new ipod 80 gig - I believe sixth generation? While my old games show up under "applications" in iTunes, they DO NOT show up or synch with new Ipod.
Since I have new ipod - are those games no longer usable? at 4.99 each? At least itunes should provide an upgrade to the games already purchased and licensed to the new sixth generation version?

  • Want old itunes on new ipod

I got a new ipod but i want to keep my old tunes. i plug the ipod in but nothing happens. What do i do?????????

If you are using Windows ( and you don't say, so it makes helping you that much more difficult), then you need to format the iPod for Windows since all iPods are Mac formatted out of the box.
Download and install the latest iPod Updater, then restart your computer.
Run the updater program, connect your iPod when prompted (not before), and follow the set up procedure, and you should be good to go.
And please, in future posts, give details of your computer and operating system.

Please help me - I have so much music downloaded already that I am afraid of losing or needing to download again. Any suggestions??? Many thanks in advance for your help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Is the music on your computer? If so then make sure everything is updated...

Then just connect the iPod and it will sync the songs in iTunes.
