Transfering photos from 4G iPod

We just gave our son a new 13" MacBook Pro. He is an avid photographer and has transfered his photos as RAW files from his SD cards to a 4th generation iPod classic (via another Mac). Now, when he connects the iPod to the new computer, the iPod shows up only iTunes (but does not cause it to launch). In addition, he gets a message that the iPod may be corrupted. The only option he is given is to reset, but, of course, that would wipe out the pictures. I assume that the iPod is in disk mode (he could not store the data there otherwise, could he?). So, there does not seem to be any way to extract the picture data from the iPod, which is the only place it exists now as he has already reformatted the SD cards. Please help with any suggestions. Thank you.

Chris.......Thank you for your prompt respone to my 'plea'...................I have followed your instructions but need clarification If I may..................When I click on Finder I only have two folders present...............One called 'thumbs' and another which called Photo Data Base..............IF my photos are in there somewhere, I am unable to find them..................I have a feeling I'm missing something.................Have you any further ideas? Warmest regards, Patty

On a recent trip I've downloaded photos from my camera (Panasonic Lumix) onto my IPod using a camera connector..............I was under the impression I could then transfer them into my computer once I was home................and I HAVE done this before!...............however at the moment I can't remember how and Technical Support says it's impossible...........without third party software...............which I did not use before..................can anyone help me with this problem? As I have some 1200 photos 'stuck' in my IPod they will be of little value to me if I can't somehow get them into my computer.............

  • Transferring photos from an iPod to a PC

Is this possible? Seems not. In the good old days a PC would open software to allow you to open the folder (device) and abracadabra it was done. Now the PC does not recognise the iPod. So what is the answer? Anyone?

An iPod nano is not a camera, so you can't do that with iPhoto.
There is a setting that relates to your question.  Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Photos tab.  There is a checkbox there, that says Include full-resolution photos.  If that setting was checked WHEN you synced the photos to your iPod, then the iPod will have a copy of photo files at full-resolution.  To retrieve them, Enable disk use on the iPod's Summary tab.  Open the iPod's storage as a "disk," and look for the image files in Photos folder.
If that setting was NOT already checked, then the iPod only has a low-resolution database of "thumbnails" instead of the photos; they are optimized to fit the very small screen on the nano (and save storage space).  They are not in a format that can be used directly on a computer.  There may be third-party utilities that can retrieve the images as individual files, but they would look terrible blown up to computer screen size.  The way they are converted and stored on the iPod, each image is only meant to look decent on the iPod's tiny screen.

  • I've transferred photos to my ipod classic from my laptop. But how can I transfer JPEG images to ipod?

I've transferred photos to my ipod classic from my laptop. But how can I transfer JPEG images to ipod?

    Hello, Blondet787.
JPEG photos are compatible with your device.  As long as these images are in the same folder as your pictures, then they should sync.  Below, I have included a couple articles that show you how to sync this data to your iPod.
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes

The article below is a little more detailed and designed more as a storage solution for media on your iPod Classic.

  • Transferring photos from Ipod back to Itunes

My problem is my old pc totally crashed and I lost everything. Ive since got a new one and once Itunes was loaded back on and my Ipod was connected my music has been transferred without a problem. However I'm hoping someone can advise me how to transfer the photos from my Ipod back onto the pc...If this is possible.
Many thanks for any help in advance.

Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
Tansee iPod Transfer Photo Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
TouchCopy Mac and Windows Versions (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

  • Problems transferring photos from a Windows formatted iPod Photo to new G5

    Hi all,
I have recently come back from an overseas trip where I stored many many photos on an iPod Photo, using a PC with Windows XP. Now that PC is stuck in the repair shop - most likely not worth saving - and I have bought myself a G5 with OS X and iLife.
Basically iTunes can recognise the number of photos on the iPod, however I cannot view them when I open the Photos folder when in the disk drive. Two folders come up: 'Photo Database' and 'Thumbs'. (I hope I haven't lost the HI RES photos!)
I know there was one post that mentioned creating an empty folder then sync it using iTunes in order to transfer the photos from the ipod- I'm just a bit weary of losing all the photos seeing a warning message displays a similar note.
I thought Mac computers can recognise Windows formatted devices/docs. May it be that the iPod needs to be updated?
I'm calling out to all Mac-savvy users out there who may be generous enough with their time to solve this annoying issue.
    Cheers.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

same thing happened to me. I purchased iPod Access from the internet (for about $15). This program will let you transfer your music and playlists from your iPod to your library

  • Transfering Photos from iPod

Does anyone know if it's possible to transfer photos from an iPod into iPhoto '08?
I just got my new 17" MBP and was a little distraught at losing all of my photos. Excitement hit once I realized I still had them on my iPod but in playing around with iPhoto (and also iTunes) I've been unable to transfer them over. I can sync my photos in iTunes but that will erase what's on my iPod in favor of the 0 pictures on my computer.
    Any thoughts?

    James:
Are you sure you have the full sized versions on the iPod? If it's a reduced version it will not be any better than a thumbnail that iPhoto creates, very small and of little use except for screen display.
Go to VersionTracker.com and do a search for "iPod photos" just "iPod" to look for 3rd party application that might be able to download the photos. Also ask in the iTunes forum.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Transferring photos from ipod nano to mac mini

I cannot transfer my photos from my ipod nano to my mac mini. I have connected my ipod to the mini and opened up iphoto but I don't have the option to import my photos.

  • Transferring Photos from iPod to PC

Hi I was wondering if there was a program or any way for me to recover my photos from my ipod onto another computer. My laptop was stolen and so I lost all of my pictures and music that was on there. I know how to transfer the songs from the iPod to the PC, but was not sure about the pictures. The pictures were in the iTunes format and in the iTunes library. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There are programs out there, you just have to search for them. Here is one page...
    http://www.copypod.net/download.php
where there is a program called "CopyPod Photo v1.70". No first hand experience. But I am sure a web search for "iPod copy Photos" or some such thing will lead you to others.
    Good luck recovering them,
    Patrick

  • I can't retrieve my photos from an ipod back up on to my new ipod

i can't retrieve my photos from an ipod back up on to my new ipod

Have the photos been taken with the iPad or have the photos been synced to the iPad Air? Photos synced with iTunes to iOS devices cannot be synced back. See this link:  iOS: Syncing photos using iTunes
If the photos have been synced to the iPad Air, you need an external app as JimHDK recommended. Or mail the photos, which will be tedious. To delete them from the iPad after transferring them, sync again with iTunes, but select no folders to sync.
If the photos have been taken with the iPad Camera, you can connect the iPad Air to your Mac using a USB cable and then to launch Image Capture or iPhoto to transfer the photos. But that will not transfer synced photos.

Were the 4,000 photos on your iPod Touch transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process?
