Transfering purchases and syncing to muliple devices
Good day all, recently i have transfered my CEOs library all to an external drive. Everything is fine until the syncing, my question is he usually purchases a lot of stuff from the app store. Now that he has an ipad and iphone, when he connects any of these devices to sync, it is givng him that message saying that in order to sync it must erase all content. What is the solution for this problem. Anything would help..thank guys
Did you have to "rebuild" the library after the transfer? I've a feeling you are using a "new" library database in the usual location, ..\<User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl instead of the database in the folder you moved to the external. To connect to a different library click the icon to launch iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key, keep holding untils asked to Choose or Create a library, click choose and browse to the new location. If I'm right this library will happily sync with the devices without the threat that media will be removed.
I'm assuming, since you already have all the media, that rebuilding that wouldn't be the end of the world, but if apps and their data are removed you may permanently lose important information. This process should work.
Using Edit > Preferences > Devices, tick Disable automatic syncing of iPods, iPhones, and iPads.
Connect device
Right-click on device and select Back Up
Right-click on device and select Restore
However that will require patience. Restoring the previous iTunes libraray database and hooking it up to the media will be the prefered route.
If you can't find the original library from before you started the transfer you might find the process in this thread useful.

I had ITunes on a Dell laptop. I copied it all to a Compaq laptop via external hard drive. The Dell is deauthorized. The Compaq is authorized. My IPod Classic will not Sync on the Compaq. I have transferred purchases, but "Sync" is greyed out. How can I get the IPod to sync with the Compaq?
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
The iPod should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES. Select it there. To the right, its Summary screen is shown. Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary. Click on Music next to Summary. This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs ot the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music. This is the switch to enable automatic syncing. If your iTunes music library fits on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library. Otherwise, you can choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Then select what you want on the iPod from the lists below.
Click Apply to intiate automatic syncing between that iTunes library and your iPod (based on how the iPod's Music screen is set up in iTunes). -
running 10.4.11... do I need to/can I upgrade in order to get iTunes 10 and sync latest ios5 devices?
If you have the following you can upgrade to Leopard:
Leopard System requirements
You must have a Macintosh computer with:
an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4 (867 MHz or faster) or G5 processor
a DVD drive >built-in FireWire
at least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended for development purposes)
a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
at least 9 GB of disk space available, or 12 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
If you meet the following you can upgrade to Snow Leopard:
Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
And, lastly, if you meet these requirements you can upgrade to Lion:
Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
You must upgrade to Lion to use iCloud. -
My brother synced an old device to my iphone 5 from itunes and it overwrited all my contacts and photos with everything
from the old itunes device. HELP.. how can I get back all my photos, contacts and apps? Would itunes have saved this
somehow when the device synced?
I'm devastated - we just moved from Boston to Cali and loosing all my info. tonight has crushed me! Any help is so
greatly appreciatedIf you've been using your phone as recommended in the User Guide, you've synched your contacts with a cloud service like Google, MobileMe or iCloud, or with a program on your computer like Address Book or Outlook.
Your contacts should still be safe in those programs and ready for resynching.
If, on the other hand, you've relied only on the iPhone to maintain your contacts, then you have just learned a valuable lesson, and this is why is is NOT recommended by Apple.
Likewise, it's recommended that photos get uploaded from your phone to your computer for safe keeping. Did you do this? -
Will In App Purchases transfer/sync to all devices?
If you buy an app (in this case a Universal one) and then on one device buy an In App Purchase, will it update the apps on other devices using that same app store account?

Transferring Purchases and Storage?
I have a 32GB iPhone 4 (CDMA)... The memory was almost full as I had about 800MB free space left. So naturally, I thought to myself let me transfer my purchases to my laptop, then I will erase a few apps and free up space. During the transfer my phone alerted me that the memory storage is almost full. simultaneously I noticed the transfer stalled on my itunes. After about a 20 minute stall it continued as if it was backing up the rest of my apps however NONE after the app that froze for 20 minutes actually transferred. Upon completion, the sync bar at the bottom of iTunes no longer showed I had free space anymore and said that my phone is 0.30GB over capacity. Now some of my apps won't even run. I assume because of the lack of space. I am irrate at this, where did the space go? Transferring apps should have only been taking things off the phone not ADDING extra **** taking up my memory. No I have no clue what happened to that free space. I am estimating if it states I'm over 0.30GB with the initial 900MB free, that's a full GB of space I payed for that I am no longer allowed access to on my phone. And not only that, the apps that are on my phone as I stated before, are not opening. Even when I tried to restore to a previous backup it errored out in the first 5 secs. Please help.

Frustrated-how do i reconnect my 4s phone to my new computer?
I did this procedure tonight:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
All went well.
I did everything using my device. So my next question is:
How do I move my wife's ipod nano from the old computer to the new one?
We used the same library.
What is de-authorize?
Since we use the same library: Can I simply remove her's from the old, and then plug it into the new?
Or, since I moved the library over, did her's automatically come with it?
Thanks again.

we transferred purchases and synced from a iPod touch to a toshiba laptop, after it updated and synced again we have been unable to put the files back onto the ipod. the computer will not let us drag or copy paste files, and when we tried to " export" the library to the documents folder, it only showed up in code. we have books and music we would like to reload to the ipod.
Hello Jean164,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are unable to manually put your content back on your iPod Touch.
It seems like you may need to re enable Manually Manage Music now that the device has been updated, and this article should help with that.

When itunes says erase and sync will all my apps be erased as well?
I recently got a new computer and was installing iTunes for my iPhone. I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 8. Anyways it said that in order to sync my iPhone it had to 'erase and sync' from the old computer to be able to work on this computer. I was just wondering that if i did this if all of my apps and contacts would be erased as well?
I have restored my iPad to factory settings in the past. I backed up, transferred purchases and synced with iTunes before I restored. When the entire process was complete, everything was back in place exactly as it was before I restored.
If you do it correctly, you should be fine and everything should transfer back to your iPad when you are done. -
i had to reset my pc cos there was a virus in it. i downloaded itunes and downloaded all my purchases and synced my iphone back in and had to put all my cds back in and everything. but i cant seem to find where the ringtone i bought it. it worked fine before i synced my iphone back into the new virus free computer. i can see it in the ringtones tab but its grey and i cant access it. can somebody help please?
Unless you saved them somewhere you need to download and pay again. There is currently no way to just get them again. You can create your own ringtones

I want to purchase songs and sync them with a second iTouch
I want to help a friend who does not have high speed internet service. She has given me a list of songs to purchase and sync to her iPod. If I download the songs to my iTunes, how do I sync them only to her iTouch? Because if those songs get sync to my iTouch, I could no longer put those songs on her iTouch, as that would be a copy, is that right?
I believe the terms of use allow you to put iTunes content on as many iPods as you want. Any iTunes protected content is restricted in such a way that it can be put onto only 5 computers, and an iPod can only have protected content from as many as 5 different iTunes accounts. However, with +iTunes Plus+ I don't think any of those restrictions exist.

iTunes just updated to yet another version 11.1.5.5 after I had resolved the previous issues with home share and syncing.... norton is not the issue is it Apple.
What do I do now!?
I do not want to uninstall and reintall.....Hello friend and thank you in advanced. Again, I am unable to use iTunes homeshare and syncing from my devices to my PC home computer and iOs devices nor do I have the option any longer to control the volume on more than one device. Here is the link that remedied the last few up dates:
