Transfering purchases from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S.

I was looking for a little help on this issue. I have just ordered the iPhone 4S and want to move my purchases from my old iPhone 4 to it. To make a long story short I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and HAD a macbook pro which I just sold. Once I plugged my iPhone into the macbook it was paired with it. Both computers are authorized on the same account and now when I plug the iPhone in to my Mac I cannot move anything off or on the mac from the phone. It says that I need to format the phone first! The phone shows up in in iTunes and the "transfer purchases" button does nothing. I don't need to do a full backup just want the purchased apps and music. Any help would be great thank you.

If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

How do I keep iTunes from automatically transferring purchases from my iPhone?

Well, earlier in the year I had a Hard Drive failure. After having it fixed not all my files where on my Mac, including my iTunes media. So I connect my iPhone and it asks me if I want to transfer purchases? I click yes, the transfer wnet fine but some old media transferd too. I didn't want it so I simply deleted it. But when I plug my iPhone in now, it automatically says transfering purchases from Alex's iPhone. I then clicked on the "X" to cancel the task. But how do I keep iTunes from automatically transferring the old material?

Transferring data from 3GS to iPhone 5 without original laptop

My wife has a 3GS which was kept in sync with a laptop running xp. This laptop has died and she has just taken delivery of an iPhone 5. She can use my mac and would like to migrate from the 3GS to the iPhone 5. I have never done this before but my theory was to plug the 3GS into my iTunes and right click and complete backup. Once this is complete I was going to plug in the 5 and set it up as a new phone restoring the backup as I go. Is this the best plan or is that not possible ?
I presume she will need her own user profile setup on my mac so that she can have her own iTunes setup and not disrupt mine

No, that is not normal. I guess you are trying to restore from the latest backup created by your old 3GS?

When I linked it it used the name I had given the ipod so it seems strange that it won't synch even though it is definitely connected.

Syncing and transferring Purchases from iTouch 4G Freezes iTunes

I recently purchased an app at the iTunes App Store (101 GamesUtilities)and when I connected my iTouch to my PC, the sync began. iTunes indicated that "Transferring Purchases from iTouch4 Step 3 of 4 Copying GameUtilities". Usually it takes a short time to complete this process so I clicked in a vacate area of iTunes and discovered that iTunes stopped responding and was frozen. I had to use control-alt-delete to close the iTunes app and disconnected the iTouch from the computer. I repeated the process of connecting my device to the PC and the iTunes repeatedly froze.
I then rebooted my computer, downloaded iTunes 10.1 and intended to install but got 2 options for action which was repair or uninstall. So I chose repair. This did not resolve the problem. I did not get any error message during this process when it finally froze. Can someone help? I also went to GameUtilities website to report the problem in event that the situation directly connected to that software.

If you use the search function on the right and search the iPod Touch forum for:
itunes AND freeze
you will see previous discussions on your problem. However, I looked at some of them and se no solution.
I would try uninstalling iTunes and then reinstall it vice just installing it over the existing one.

iTunes 10.4 says my iPhone 3GS (iOS 4.3.3) has purchased items to transfer before I upgrade to 4.3.5. I click on File->Transfer Purchases, iTunes says "Transferring Purchases". I wait until it finishes and click 'Upgrade" again, but it still reports purchases need to be transferred; I ejected the phone and plugged it back in, but it still reports purchases need to be transferred. Any thoughts ? Any way to find out what purchases we're talking about ? Thanks.

Ignore it. If you're updating, nothing will be deleted from the phone. Assuming this is the computer you usually sync with, just do a full sync before updating.

A week ago I busted the screen on my former Toshiba PC laptop. I freaked out as it's only 4 months until our wedding day and all our wedding stuff was on that computer, including all our ceremony music. I purchased my new MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display and received it yesterday. I followed all the instructions to transfer purchases from my iPhone 5 to my new mac computer but only 9 songs transferred. The original iTunes was on my Toshiba since 2009 when I had my original iPhone 3GS and after getting the new iPhone 5, all my songs carried over onto that phone. Now I can't seem to get those songs onto my laptop. There are over 1,000 songs but I'm most concerned with the ceremony playlists. Does anyone know why only 9 songs transferred over? What can i do to get the music off my iPhone and onto my MacBook Pro without having to purchase all those songs again?? I authorized this new computer & I signed in using my Apple ID that I had previously on my former laptop....

A busted screen does not do anything to the hard drive.
Pull it out and put it into an external hard drive case.
Then copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder on the old conmputer HD to /Music/ on your new computer.
Launch iTunes.

bought a new iMac, trying to backup my iPhone 4S, but transferring purchases for the first time and it keeps locking up after a few get transferred. I've tried a few different times, even after a reboot, but it continues to get stuck on like the 2nd or 3rd transfer

A reset may help.
Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons and await restart.
