Transfering to harddrive in boat stereo

I am trying to import itunes songs to my Sony stereo on my boat. It has a harddrive built into the face plate. I need to understand how to authorize this devise to let me transfer the songs. i have several accounts still left.
any help appreciated.....
thanks

That is a strange problem.
But, since you have tried it with different drives, then there is some common factor here.
First, I would try repairing permissions Using Disk Utility.
Go to Hard Drive --> Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility
Then, select your hard drive on the left (your main hard drive), and then choose "repair permissions".
Second, try a restart. If you haven't rebooted your computer in a while, then this may clear out any weird bugs that have cropped-up.
Third, I would try a new cable. Make sure it is a good high-quality cable. And, perhaps even test it with another computer.
Fourth, I would go into the System Preferences ( menu, then System Preferences), and then the accounts section.
Set up a new user account, and try logging into that account and try it again. Perhaps something in your settings is corrupted.
I hope this helps.

  • Hard Swop

Attempting to swop the Hard Drive from a Quad Power Mac G5 (B) into the Quad Mac Pro Intel G5 (A) but the OS will not boot up from that (B) drive. The system does see the (B) drive but only as a secondary storage drive and only while in bay 2. When selecting the drive from the start-up option and restarting the system, it starts up XP. When the (B) drive is placed in bay 1 without drive (A) the system will not start up at all.
So to recap. 2 drives (A&B). The first drive (A) came with the system running OS 10.5 and has 2 partitions - 1 for OS X and 1 for XP. The 2nd drive (B) is coming out of a Quad Power Mac G5 running OS 10.4.10. Both drives are standard Mac installed 250gb SATA drives.
Is this a boot camp issue? Is this a jumper issue? Is this an OS issue? Is this a Intel issue? Is this a Drive Format issue?

Thanks for your reply. I was leaning toward the format variable while hoping it was a simple boot camp fix. Just to confirm the Quad Power Mac uses a APL format while the Intel Quad Mac Pro uses a GUID format. To your knowledge is there a converter that would fix this issue but wouldn't slow the system?
Any experience transfering a harddrive over the firewire? If so any thoughts on using Boot Camp to create another partition and then transfering the 10.4.10 system to that partition. Obviously the software would have to be reactivated, but my concerns revolve around utilizing the XP and avoiding possible bugs from moving to a Intel machine. This is a production machine that can not be used as a test bed for 10.5.1 - yet. I appreciate your time.

  • IPod volume inconsistant

I have a 30gig ipod video. I have it attached to my Pioneer car stereo via a Pioneer cable that charges the ipod and transfers music to the car stereo.
My problem is that the volume varies greatly from artists and songs. The music that I imported from CD's are low volume and some songs that I purchased from the Apple Music store have high volume, and it blasts me out when I select them.
I know there is a switch in iTunes to make the volume consistant when using iTunes. My question is there a way to make the volume consistant for my iPod when using my car stereo?
    Kevin Hawkins

Use the soundcheck feature to level out the volume somewhat.
Apply it in iTunes using the edit/preferences/playback menu (Windows).
    iTunes/preferences/playback (Macs).
Turn it on on the iPod using the settings/soundcheck/on menu.
After applying it in iTunes, sync your iPod to reflect the changes made.
There are 3rd party programs that do this more effectively (at least in my opinion).
    For Windows there is mp3/aacGain.
However, mp3/aacgain will have no effect on songs purchased from the iTunes store.

  • Problems transfering files from PC to Harddrive on Airport Extreme.. Help!

I upgraded to an Airport Extreme to help speed up my wireless and access a LACIE 1tb harddrive between two computers - a Windows XP 64bit machine and a new macbook.
Everything works great except I cannot copy large files from the PC to the harddrive even though I can stream movies off the harddrive to the same computer and transfer small files. When I try to copy a large file I get "The specified network name is no longer available" after about 30sec even though its actually connected (I can browse and watch a movie after I get the error). The large files do show up on the HDD after getting the error but they are not working files. So frustrating.
I have read that it could be the 7.4.2 firmware but have tried going back to 7.4.1 with the same results. I have also tried backing up the Airport and restoring to default settings. Also tried installing the airport software on the PC with no luck. I am considering trying to format the drive from FAT32 to the default apple one but really don't want to do this.
Anyone have any suggestions? This is got to be the most frustrating problem I have encountered since starting my mac transition...

So I plugged in another 250gb hdd that I have lying around, formatted with my macbook and successfully backed up over 130gb worth of files via time machine. Also, tried transferring some "large files" to the same drive via the PC with blazing speed and everything works great.
So it turns out that a harddrive with FAT32 doesnt work properly with a PC.
I will be formatting my other 1tb drive now and I suspect will have similar results but this issue is odd and frustrating to say the least.

    I got it to work!!!!!!!
what I did was after doing this( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364) moving my library and iTunes folders using that link, I held shift while double cicking and opening iTunes, It promted me to select a library, I went to my external hard drive and opened iTunes library.itl folder and selected the iTunes library.itl file.  In the picture below I just selected the highlighted file and it opened itunes, THIS time with all my music and with all my music ratings and playlists, all still intact thank you so much!!!!

  • Transfering Music from Harddrive to iTunes Library...

Im obviously doing something very wrong. I have all my music on an external hard drive. All I want is to copy them to iTunes library without lots of duplicates. I have changed location in Preferences to search for music on the hard drive (which mysteriously has just changed from E to F?). Each time, I delete the itunes library - then go File - Import Folder to itunes - Select it - then it seems OK. Then I have 11GB worth of duplicates... Last, thing is that it also randomly puts non compilation albums in Compilations. Ive tried moving them, creating folder and moving, but each time I try and get it all sorted, next time I try and copy over successfully again even more albums appear! Sorry for long explanation but would love some help.. Many thanks,

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not work with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions

There is a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases that you can check out. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Transfering iPhoto library to External Harddrive

I am trying to transfer my iPhoto library to my External Harddrive, but it says it is going to take one day. I dont feel like USB 3.0 should take one day to transfer 50gb of pictures... Any fix to this problem?

    Ignore it
The finder is a very poor estimated of time - it will change radically as it progresses - and however long it takes is how ling it takes - there is no way to change that
Is the external drive formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled)? - to use the iPhoto library it must be that format

  • Transferring harddrive from imac to macbook pro (tiger to leopard?)

hey everyone, i'm waitin on leopard before i buy a macbook pro 15 inch, and hopefully someone can tell me if i can transfer my entire data (music, movies mainly) to the macbookpro via some other way BESIDES making all those bloody data discs, backup discs, networks. i.e. i've seen flickr photos of people transferring using firewire? my 2nd question is if i CAN transfer my music, movies via firewire from my imac running tiger to a macbook pro (with leopard eventually) will i run into any problems? thanks for any input!

Nobody knows if Leopard will be compatible with your present software. Before upgrading to Leopard, I would though follow my FAQ* as far as upgrading:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
Assuming you are talking going from an Intel iMac to a MacBook Pro on Tiger the Migration Assistant is all you need if there is enough space on the MacBook Pro. Otherwise if you have a PowerPC iMac, or don't have enough space on the MacBook Pro, see this user tip:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=0
Apple has left much of Leopard as a mystery, and all anyone knows is on http://www.apple.com/macosx/
Anything else is pure speculation, which we can't say on this board.

  • Transfering a playlist to external harddrive

Several months ago I moved my entire iTunes folder to an external harddrive. For a few weeks I was without the drive, though, so the new songs I imported got saved to my hard drive. To make things easier, I put all of these new songs in one playlist.
How can I just transfer the one playlist over to the external harddrive? I don't want to have to go through the procedure of moving the entire database again, as wouldn't that create duplicate copies of the files?
    Thanks!

Well, I went ahead and just copied folders from my C Drive and pasted them into the respective artist folders in the external drive. So, that's taken care of.
My question NOW is, how can I change it so that iTunes goes to the external drive to play these tracks now, rather than playing them off the C drive? I figure I could just delete them off the C drive, and then when iTunes tries to find the file, direct it to the external drive? Or is there a way you can do this without deleting the C drive file (you know...just in case!)?

  • Transfering iphoto library to harddrive?

How do I transfer my iphoto picture library to an external harddrive and then remove them from my computer to free up space? I have iphoto 9.1 installed.
I still want to be able to work with them though in Photoshop Elements.

First copy the iPhoto Library file to the location on the external drive where you want it. Next hold down the OPTION key then open iPhoto. You will have a dialog for choosing the library file you wish to use. Locate the one you've moved to the external drive, select it, click on the Open button.
iPhoto will now use the external library file. You can delete the one on your internal drive. Be sure you have a backup of it before deleting it, just in case.

  • Transferring home videos on DVD to external harddrive through macbook

I want to transfer all our old home movies which are all on DVD to an external harddrive. I try dragging but that didn't work. I made a copy of the video and dragged to hard drive but that also didn't work. What do I do?

Hi - The movies were from several different video cameras all 8mm tapes originally. My husband burned the tapes onto DVD-Rs. I tried just dragging the video onto the external hard drive and I got an error message that says" The DVDVRF430 can not be moved because the OneTouch 4 (name of hard drive) can not be modified". I tried dragging it to a folder within the harddrive and got same message but said the folder could not be modified.
I then went into Imovie and played around. There is a way to copy the video through Imovie but the only option it gives me is to copy it to my mac harddrive. I thought I would be able to direct it to the external harddrive because It has a pull down bar but the only option is the mac internal drive.I have 19 years of videos and do not want them on my MAC harddrive but if I have to load them to the Mac then take them off to put on external I will - just seems like a long process of extra work.
I originally had a PC and all of the documents on the harddrive were from my PC which died. Is it possible that I need to do somehting to the the harddrive to recognize the mac? I have opened files on the external harddrive and edited them on the Mac and then saved them with no problem. I have had to change the programs a bit to make them compatible since many are older Word or Microsoft Works files but that is all.

  • Transfering from wireless harddrive to new wireless harddrive

I have my music on a harddrive plugged into a USB hub on my airport extreme. I have now upgraded my harddrive, so i need to transfer the music over to a new harddrive that will replace the old.
Any suggestions on the best way to go abouts this? (about 40gigs)
Also, has anyone had problems using the front row with music streaming wirelessly? It doesn't seem to work.

The nice thing about USB is that USB storage devices are VERY standardized and have been for years.  They will work with any OS that supports USB storage devices, which is basically anything since Windows 98 for Windows, anything since the original iMac (maybe earlier?) for Macs, etc.
Windows 95 could have USB support added, but it was kind of a pain.
The only compatibility issue is that sometimes the host operating system doesn't understand the filesystem the drive was formatted with.  However, Windows has been consistently backwards compatible with previous filesystems supported by Windows, i.e. W7 will read and write all FAT variants and older NTFS variants.
