Transfering video form digital camera in imovie

When I open iphoto in imovie my videos don't appear. They are there in iphoto but not when I try to import them into imovie. What am I doing wrong?

yes Daniel is correct. However, if you can't go to the directory with the camera hooked up, try popping out the card and putting it into a USB card reader. I have to do this with my nikon d7000. While the videos automatically pop into iphoto, imovie won't even let me navigate to the card. I need to take it out of the camera and mount it in an attached card reader. Then i navigate to the .mov file using file them import then movies.

  • How do I move videos i recorded off my digital camera to iMovie? !!!!!!!!!!

I hooked my digital that recorded said video, to my mac book but I can't find out how to move my video from my digital to iMovie please help!

Is your "digital camera" a still camera that happens to take movies as well? Or do you really have a DV camcorder? iMovie, Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro only work directly with DV (or HDV). If you have a DV camcorder, you should be able to use iMovie to import your videos. If you have a still camera, you'll have to import your movies into iPhoto. Then, depending on the format your still camera saves the videos, you may or may not be able to import them into iMovie.

  • New Photos App - Can't Import Video from Digital Camera

Hi, everyone.  I just "upgraded" to the new Photos app, but I'm finding that I can no longer import video from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5.  With iPhoto, this was never a problem.  All of the old videos I imported from this camera are there after migration, and are playable within the program.  Photos import just fine.  However, I get an error message for the videos (below).  I don't understand why I'm not able to import anything new from that device.
I opened iPhoto to attempt an import and it worked just fine.  Any help is appreciated.  I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3 on an iMac 2010.  Thanks.

    Hi there Jermaster
iMovie 3 does not support the camera you have. iM is a Digital Video (DV) editor. Cameras that record to mini DV tape is what is required. IM 3 does not support USB either. You need Firewire. The camera you have is a flash based Hard Drive camera. To get the video off this camera you'll need iM08 or 09.
But it doesn't appear that the computer you have will support either of these versions.
    See below ...

  • How to get video off my camera into iMovie

I now have a MacBook with the 08 release of iLife. I would like to get the video off my camcorder and into iLife to save the movies (primary) and play/edit with them (secondary).
However, here's the catch. My camcorder is an older hand-me-down. The only ports on it are s-video and "headphone" jack for audio. I have an adapter for my Windows box (shudder) that lets me do it, but I'd really like to use my Mac for that stuff and that adapter isn't marked mac-compatible.
anybody have any ideas? i've seen these Dazzle things in Best Buy, but they smell Windows-only. There's got to be SOMETHING that would allow me to get svideo sources recorded ... right?

If you know someone with a digital camera (miniDV) with appropriate ports you pay be able to use it to pass your video through, although you may need to record to the miniDV tape first.

  • Transferring video from a camera

I bought got a panasonic DMC-ZR1 as a present and at first thought I would never shoot video with it but would like to try it. Is there a way to download it to my mac and using some third party software burn it to a dvd? This camera imports photos to iphoto fine but I know video is different. The format says motion JPEG not the Mac friendly AVCHD lite that some of the Panasonic cameras have. My wife has one of the intel based macs with iMovie 8 vs my iMovie 6HD if that would help. Thanks. I have one of the first flip video camcorders and was able to use that by converting files using a program called mpeg streamclip but I do not know if that would work here. Thanks.

What happens if you try to import the video file from the camera into iMovie?
    (I think it should work.)

  • Question about Playing Videos from Digital Camera on iPod

I just got an iPod video and it won't let me put my video recordings from my digital camera on it. I got this camera about six months ago and it will play through Windows Media Player but will not on iTunes. What's weird is that my iTunes plays videos from my really old digital camera.
Does anyone know how I can play my videos?

I don't create videos myself but this might help you.

  • How do I use video's taking from a digital camera in IMovie as they don't appear on app?

I have downloaded iMovies on my iPad 2 and also synced this with my laptop in which all photos and videos have been transferred over to it. My photos appear in the 'photo' folder and my videos appear in 'Video' folder. When I open the iMovie app it only shows my photos which means I am unable to use my videos to make a movie.

I should note that the camera (both video and audio) show up as devices just fine in other Adobe CS apps (including FLME).  Does anyone have any insight as to how FLME gains access to the DV hardware?

  • Importing VHS video through digital camera

I am importing VHS video through my Sony camera (TRV22) to imovie.  For some reason it the screen will go blue for a few seconds then the picture will come back.  I was doing this on a older power pc mac and imovie would just stop recording.  On my new imac it doesn't stop recording but the screen goes blue.    Has this happened to anyone else and maybe know what is causing it?  Should I try a different way of video transfer with some other software?  Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Two possible causes:
    Faulty or badly connected cables
    You are not using Firewire

  • Transferring video from still camera

I have taken some 30-40 minute videos with my Nikon still camera. I am unable to download these too my MacBook. I have tried image capture, iPhoto & Nikon's picture transfer software with no success. Pictures & smaller video (1-2 minutes) download perfectly. My new hard drive has ample space but how can I get these video files onto my mac? Could limited RAM be a problem?

Download MPEG Streamclip (Use Google to find it).
Import your clip into MPEG Streamclip and export as DV. DV is iMovie's native format. In your case, you need DV-NTSC. PAL countries use DV-PAL.

  • Transferring videos out of iPhoto & into iMovie

I want to transfer all of my videos out of iPhoto '11 and into iMovie '11.  I want to have all of my video's in one place.  I have tried exporting them, but that does not create all the files.  What is the best way to do that?

I exported all of mine out of iPhoto to the hard drive, then imported into iMovie.
However, you can just select the iPhoto Library from the Libraries list. Then you can pick the movies from there.
I made a Smart Album in iPhoto that includes all Movies. The criteria is Photo is Movie. Then, you can select that Smart Album in iMovie and it will have all your Movies in it.

  • Transferring video files from camera to external drive.

    Forum,
How do I transfer video, or indeed can I, to an external drive using Firewire?
I can connect the camera with Firewire 400 to the computer and the external drive with F/wire 800.
I have not tried because i do not want damage my kit.
    Thank you
    Michael Craven.

Just connect the drive and see if you can capture to it... many times you can, but sometimes you can't... depends on the FW bridge in the drive. If it's fast enough, you won't have a problem. You won't hurt anything trying at any rate. If it drops frames or something, then a firewire card added to your system to create a second firewire bus will fix you right up.

  • IPhoto won't import videos from digital camera or s4

Up until now, I had been able to import videos from both. Now iPhoto won't even ask me to import videos. It just imports the photos.

Do the cameras have the option to record in AVCHD? If so is that what you're recording?  What version of iPhoto are you using?

  • No audio when files (recorded off of digital camera) were copied to iMovie

I attempted to import video clips taken with my sure shot digital camera to iMovie. The video transfered just fine but there is no audio.
I then uploaded all the video clips from the camera to iPhoto and when I opened those files thru iPhoto, quicktime plays the videos perfectly with audio.
What am I doing wrong/what do I need to do so that these video files play audio when in iMovie?

    Hello 112969nole,
the clips from your digital camera are likely to be in a muxed MPEG format. In order to edit them with iMovie you'll need to convert them to DV format.

  • Can control camera with iMovie, but no video displayed

    Sony HDV 1080i camera w/iMovie HD 6.0.
I can control the playback via iMovie & video plays on camera, but iMovie window just displays "camera connected". No video.
    Ideas?

Open the Audio MIDI Setup application (Utilities folder).
Try changing the settings to 44100Hz (CD Quality) or to 48000Hz (typical of the iMovie formats).
Others call this the GarageBand fix. Opening GB also resets the Audio MIDI Setup.”
If that is too hard to understand:
    *Open GarageBand
    *Play a few notes
    *Close Garageband
    *Open imovie
    *Camera should be recognized now.
