Transferred Clip Flickers?!

Hi,
I am new to FCE and just bought the Sony HDR-XR520VE AVCHD Cam. I can connect and see the clips in the log and transfer window. However, after transfer (when i view the clip in FCE in the Viewer) the movie flickers strongly.
What am I doing wrong? The Easy settings is set to HDV - Apple Interm. Codec 1080 50i (I am using a German Cam).

Hi,
I solved the problem. It was the Quicktime Plugin Perian, that caused the flickers. Now all is fine.

  • Maintain data rate when transferring clips from XF 305 to FCP 7

    Hello
I wonder if someone out there can help.
    I have footage shot on a Canon XF305 - 1920x1080p, 50i, 50Mbps which I want to edit in Final Cut Pro 7.0.3.
I have installed the Canon XF plug-in and have used Log and Transfer to ingest one short clip as Apple Pro Res 4:2:2 HQ and one clip as Native.
However when I look at Properties of the transferred clips the Data Rate of Pro Res clip is 22Mbps, and of the native clip only 6 mbps. Is this significant or relevent? As the programme is for HD delivery I need to ensure I maintain the 50mbps data rate.
If it isn’t relevent is it better to ingest Native or Pro Res?
I’d be most grateful for enlightenment! :-)

    Hi Deborah,
Don't get confused by Mb/sec (megabits) and MB/sec (megabytes) there are 8 bits in a byte, you can do the maths from there.

  • Log & transferred clip panned to Right

I'm a newbie - I've done some basic editing using logged and transferred clips from a borrowed camera. All's been ok. I've been guided by Tom's excellent book.
Just bought a Panasonic HDC-TM700 and am going through the same process but I'm mystified: the audio from the clips is panned hard Right. The problem seems to be in the digital flow into and out of FCE somewhere as playing the camera straight into my stereo from the AV multi is fine. Listening through the camera headphone socket on playback is also fine.
I've done nothing much with audio so far - I note that the "stereo" tabbed window in FCE shows (I presume) the L&R audio streams and one's amplitude is much greater than the other. I've fiddled with the little pan slider (starts at -1) and it seems just to centralise stuff (have to read more on this).
I thought I might have changed a default somewhere so re-installed FCE to be sure. No change.
    I'd appreciate any suggestions!

In addition to the pan settings, the gain default gain for all clips captured or imported into FCE or FCP is 0. 0 means that no gain has been applied either negative or positive. But the default gain setting of 0 has nothing to do with the output volume. If the audio was recorded low or if the audio was recorded hot, the default gain setting will be 0 for both even though they have different output levels (volume).
If the clip is a stereo pair and one channel was recorded markedly louder than the other, it would be best to convert the stereo pair to two mono tracks so you can easily adjust one channels gain independent of the other.
To convert a Stereo Pair in the Timeline, highlight the clip(s) and hit Option l (lowercase L).

  • Log & Transfer not transferring clip in full

    Hello-
Running FCP7 on Dual Quad Core Mac Pro, OS 10.6, capture scratch on external Firewire drives.
Working on big documentary project shooting almost exclusively 1080 30p files with Canon HDSLRs (5D, 7D, T2i, T3i.)  Transcoding the footage - to Apple Pro Res 422 LT 1080 30p - thru FCP's log and transfer tool has been a successful workflow up to this point.
But recently discovered that a healthy chunk of footage wasn't fully transcoded - original clips were all represented but NOT in their entirety, ie all the clips were there, just not in full original durations. (When originally did the L&T transferring, FCP didn't give any error messages; I only discovered when it seemed like there were large chunks of missing footage.)
And it's been hard to discern a pattern.  Annoyingly, these partial durations are not true off all the clips in any particular L&T batch, just some.  Both relatively long and short clips (under and over 30 seconds) are getting cut off.  Nor is there any kind of distinct duration cut-off point; the abbreviated clips all cut out at random times.  I seemed to have isolated the problem clips to a week’s period of intensive L&T work back in early Feb.  And since that point I have been able to L&T transcode full durations successfully.  And I have been re-transfering the partial files - on the same system - and it seems to be transcoding clips in full.
Anyone ever run into this issue?  Any idea why/how it happened?  Couldn't imagine there's some buried preference setting that's inhibiting transferring the clips in full.
I guess I'm just going to have to re-transcode all the incomplete clips but bigger worry is preventing this in the future.  Tough workflow going forward if I can't have confidence in L&T tool not to transfer in full.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Nick.

Ssure enough, clips appear after about 3 minutes of leaving log and transfer open. As long as I don't close L&T, the following directories will mount quickly, as expected. As soon as I close L&T, same pattern.
This is consistent with directories with as few as one, 30 second clip as well as the more usual gathering of multiple clips. I noticed an Identical thread on RED's discussion board. The directories I'm working with are HVX-200 / DVCProHD.

  • After transferring clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. They show up in the timeline of my project, though. how can I see then in the events browser?

After importing clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. Events from 2014 show up, but not 2015.They show up in the timeline of my project, though. How can I see them in the events browser?

TThose aren't bins. Those are just groupings based on when the content was created or any other selected parameter. Use the action popup in the toolbar tho change the setting.

  • Transferring Clips saved in IDVD 08 to IDVD 06

I have a large number of video clips that I imported from my camera using IDVD 08, after which for sound editting reason I would like to edit in IDVD 06. Is there a simple and efficient way of importing all of the clips into IDVD 06?

    Hello, MarkDean,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Are you sure that what you wrote is what you meant?
iDVD is not an importing application, nor is it used for editing. Are you meaning iMovie 08 and iMovie 6? If so, you should be posting in the iMovie 08 or iMovie 6 discussions.
What format is your video footage from your camera? Are you referring to a camcorder or a still camera that shoots video clips?
If you meant iMovie, you can export the clips as quicktime and import that into a new iMovie HD6 project.
Please post back if I am not answering what it is you are trying to do.

  • Transferring clips from avid to fcp via firewire

a bit off the wall question ... but is it possible to transfer clips from my avid media composer adrenaline (pc) to my fcp via firewire using the capture tool. the clips are dvcpro hd on the avid. it is easy to output the clips or sequences to tape (panasonic aj-hd1200 or 1400) via firewire so my plan is to "simply" substitute fcp for a deck and capture the clips free running into fcp. theoretically it seems to me that it should work. i set the device to non-controllable and capture settings to dvcpro hd 720p 60 to match the output from the avid. one problem is that when i connect the firewire cable from the pc to the mac, on the pc new hardware found message pops up and i have no way of telling windows what the device is. anyway have any experience or any ideas. thanks.

I doubt very much that your plan will work.
Why not just set up file sharing on the PC and pull the files onto the Mac using Finder?
That way you will retain the embedded data in the files.
Then you will probably need the QuickTime codecs from Avid too. (I don't have a link, maybe someone else will post it)
All in all, it might be better just to recapture directly into FCP from the original tapes.

  • Transferring clips from iMovie to FCE and back without losing quality

I wish to export a clip from an iMovie HD 6.0.3 DV PAL Widescreen project into FCE HD 3.5.1 to apply a video filter and then export it back into iMovie . Can anyone tell me what settings to use for the exports/imports and also which Easy Setup to use in FCE, in order to do this without any loss of video quality (apart from any resulting from applying the filter). The clip is a DV clip captured originally from a Canon XL H1. Thanks.

    Tom,
I'm still having problems. Final import back into iMovie is poor quality and slightly squashed (Black space at left hand side). My import and export settings are probably not exactly right. Would appreciate it if you could tell me in detail what these settings should be. Thanks again for your help so far and apologies for taking up your time.
    Maurice.

  • Transferring clips between projects

I have an imovie project which is 15.92 GB. It concists of 1hr 13 mins of footage copied from 50 yr old 8mm film. Several families have interest, each in parts only, of the project. I have created two new projects and have been pulling small clips from the original into the docks of the new projects. Alas one is already 75 GB for 17 minutes and the other 43 GB for 6 and a half minutes. Needless to say my computer is pretty full. Could someone explain what is going on. It is obviously not the way to go.

My apologies. I have just realised that I am incorrectly posted .I am using IMovie HD 6.0.4

  • Transfering clips from one 'project library' project to another

When I copy and paste clips from one 'project library' project to another 'project library' project it somehow brings along all the deleted material that was taken out of the finished product. Can't even figure out how this is happening... I'm trying to make different versions of a music video with most of the same clips and transitions. (imovie '09)

Thank you soooooo much! I don't know if this is possible, but I wanted to add beat markers to the music first before I added the clips from the other project. When I duplicate the project,it also brought along the music. I know you have to add beat markers to the music before you add clips. So is there anyway to lay the music down first then add the duplicated project (minus it's original music).
    THANKS for your time!

  • Transferring edited clips between projects

Does anyone know the correct way to transfer edited clips from the timeline and paste into another cs4 project? When I copy and paste now, only the video appears, not the audio, making it necessary to redo all my edits. I saw info online about transferring clips between CS4 and After Effects but not between CS projects.

Frameserver is a no-go in CS4, sadly. Here's hoping the author comes up with a way to make it work. Batch encoding from AME to frameserved AVIs would be awesome, and by awesome I mean totally sweet.
Courtney, make sure that your destination sequence has the same kind of audio tracks as the source sequence, ie. stereo. I think PPro should automatically create them if needed, but when it does, they'll be placed below the existing timeline tracks. Even then, you should still hear them on playback...
tlc51369's solution is probably the best one.

  • Log & Transfer, one clip not transferring

I have successfully been able to "Log and Transfer," my videos directing into FCP 6.0.6. The three clips are not transferring. It is taking hours and it still only looks like 1/4 of it is transferred.  This (3 un-transferable) clips range from around 44 minutes and 1 hour.  There is 11 clips I would like to transfer over. I successfully transferred 8 of those 11 clips.  It is patience I need, a whole night for it transfer my 00:44:37;04 clip?

Did all the other shots on the card come in to fcp?
It may be that the shot is corrupted. The only thing I can think of is to try moving the "card" to your startup drive.
You might go on to the website of your camera's manufacturer and see if there's any help to be found in their support area.  Sometime's cameras come with software which is often pc only.  If you have access to a pc, you might try the software and see if you have any more luck.  Once you've got the file onto a pc, you may be able to convert it to a fcp friendly format.
    Good Luck

  • Is there a way of rotating clips in FC4?

I have a plug in for iMovie that does the job, but would prefer to do it directly from FC, rather then transferring clips back and forth. Any suggestions, please?
    Thanks.

Switch the View popup on the right at the top of the Canvas to Image+Wireframe.
Go to the edge of the image and the cursor will change in a rotation tool.
    Drag the cursor.
