Transferring Contacts from a BB Q10 to a BB Bold 9780

I have a Q10 with one provider ( Telus) and also have a bold 9780 with another provider ( bell mobility) . I will be stopping to use my Q10 and need to transfer my contacts to my Bold 9780. How can this be done??

There is no method of transferring data from a BB10 device to a BBOS device. Unless you sync the data to Outlook or to an email account wirelessly there isn't a way to transfer.

  • Unable to load contacts from 8520 to Q10

I am trying to transfer my contacts from Curve 8520 to Q10. The have tried the following:
    1. Using Blackberry protect, backed up entire data of Curve 8520 (when I sign in on the website it shows a summary of the backup, which is fine)
    2. After setup of Q10 I signed in to BB Protect and selected to Restore Data. It said "File downloaded, contact restoration will take approx 1 hour". However, it did not happen completely. To complicate things further, contacts were all mixed up and jumbled. To make things worse, the phone stopped receiving and making calls. All other funtions were working (whatsapp, email, browser, etc). However, the call log screen froze and no calls could be made or receieved.
    3. I ran Wipe data, reset the phone and started all over again. This time, I used the link software and followed the "Switch Device" option. After completing the steps mentioned by the Link software, I was still unable to sync/transfer the contacts. Again the issue with the call logs and contacts screen freezing cropped up. Again I was unable to make or receive calls. After trying for more than 4 hours, I again reset the device.
    4. Finally I used the Link software again and selected "Transfer Data" option, connected both the phones to my laptop, followed the 9 step process as suggested by the Link software. It completed successfully and prompted that data transfer was successful. But I was unable to see any contacts. After about 3 hours I could see a few contacts but they were horribly mixed up. The final nail in the coffin was when the same issue of screen freezing recurred. I was again not able to make or receive calls.
    5. So again I have reset the device and I am using the phone now without any contacts. It is working fine.
Please suggest how do I get my contacts into Q10. I have 2200 contacts on Curve 8520.
    Regards,
    Udit.

I had the same problem today and was so disappointed to see that nobody responded to this!  So here is how I fixed it (with the help of BB customer service).
    1. Something from the Curve has corrupted your Q10. You need to wipe the data:
Settings -> Security and Privacy -> Security Wipe. This takes a while, about a half hour. Once your screen goes black, wait 5 minutes then turn it back on. Everything will be erased and reset back to new.
    2. Back up your Curve with the BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3. Connect your Q10 and open BlackBerry Link software. Select “Back up & Restore”, then chose the “Restore Device” action. From the folder, select the backup you just completed. DON’T SELECT FULL RESTORE. The problem comes somewhere there. Select “Custom Restore.” I only chose my Memos, Phone Call Logs, SMS Messages, Address Book, and MMS Messages. Hit “Restore.” Everything transerred.
Guess this is the price we pay for waiting so long to upgrade

  • Need to sync contacts from an old Desktop address book on Bold 9650

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but here goes!
I have a user with a Bold 9650 that has two Desktop address books on their device:
    - 1 from the old enterprise activation at a previous company that we saved and restored
    - 1 from the current activation that is correctly syncing with Exchange
For the old one, they want to pull in about 800 contacts sitting there and get them syncing with Exchange.
Quesiton is how do I do this? I can't seem to back up the book and restore it over the current, and I can't otherwise seem to access it in a way to do this.  I know there must be a way, so any hints would be great!
Desktop 6 is installed on their system, and I do have admin access to the BES Server, etc if need be.

Hard Reset the new Treo so it's completely erased.  Perform a HotSync, and when Palm Desktop asks you to "Create a New Account, or use an Existing One?" choose "Existing" and pick the HotSync name of your old data.

  • Can't transfer all the contact from my Q10 to Passport (only half) (facebook/twitter problem)

Hi all, I read a lot on the forum and I've decide to subscribe myself now because I can't find a solution.
I just buy the BB Passport and I try to transfert all the contact from my previous BB Q10 and it's not working correctly. I explain
I have only half of my contact in my Passport now. What I've seen is that the missing contact (numbers) are the person who I have link with Facebook or Twitter account.
I would like to know what can I do to add all the missing numbers. I just add my Facebook and Twitter account and still nothing. But now what I've found is everytime I was adding a number to a contact that I got (facebook, Twitter), I was clicking un update contact because I got it in the contact list but not is phone number.
So I look at this and all the contact that I add number and after click on update contact, I can't have it on my phone.
Maybe that can help you to help me?
    Thanks for the help

If you log into your facebook account and then go to APP setting you can allow the APP to have access to your contacts it should re-populate the contacts, there is also the option of linking the contact info together or leaving it seperate, look at the bottom of your contact and you will see the sort of chain icon. I personaly had the opposite issue, before I realized it they had all been sucked into my BB and I really didn't want them there so I spent time getting rid of them ::

  • Restoring Contacts from Bold to Q10?

    Hi,
I've just got the blackberry Q10 and can't seem to restore my contacts from my backup file.
I've followed all the steps and restored everything e.g. messages etc which are working fine, but the only reference to restore contacts is "recent contacts". When i tick this box and click restore and then check my phone contacts, it still only shows my bbm contacts.
Anyone have idea how to sort this?
    Regards,
    David.

Your Hotmail contacts were probably synced from your hotmail email account.
The next thing you can do is to call o2 and ask them to please escalate this for you to BlackBerry tech support and ask them to extract your Address Book only out for the backup and see if you can restore that.

  • Backing up contacts from Q10 to a PC

I switched from an android back to a Blackberry and so far I have only run into one problem. There were lots of duplicates in my google account but while Blackberry managed to download all my contacts from the account, it did little to deal with the duplicates. So I patiently dealt with duplicates by deleting some, linking some, etc.
Now, I need a back up of all my contacts on my PC, which I have been unable to do so with Link considering, it only provides a one-way link -- from outlook to blackberry.
I am in no mood to share my contact book with yet another third party.
Given all this, how do I back up my contacts?

Hi mikhilbhat and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
Because your contacts are synchronized with your Google account, they will not be backed up, this is by design.
    Thanks.

  • Is there any RIM rep. in here? Did they notice what's happening? I can't move data from Z10 to Q10

Is there any of RIM representative here???
I know this is a common issue, I see many members from forums, here, crackberry, and many others experiencing problems with BlackBerry Link.
    1. I can't switch device from Z10 to Q10, 1st it says my Q10 has old software, I have updated to the latest, now it says please make sure my device is connected and retry, I press retry and always failed to detect (for restore data from Z10 backup to Q10) other than that, it can detect my Q10.
    2. To restore data from backup you have to sign in to BlackBerry ID first and it makes your BBM contact transferred without the others, contact, SMS, calendar, notes, alarms, settings, etc. I'm thinking of moving back to Z10 and afterwards all my open chats in Z10 just disappear, I still have importants chat containing appointments, addresses, price negotiation, hotel reservations, argh this is frustrating because every time I wanted to restore to new device it will ask to sign in again, and how is it going to decide which is my valid PIN on the other side of my BBM's contact if I keep switching device like this back and forth..
Why can't it be like the old days of OS 4, 5, 6, 7 and 7.1?
Where we can make full or partial backups and restore it to any device and any OS?
Didn't you make a proper test and research before releasing OS10 and BlackBerry Link on the market? (This question goes to RIM's rep. where ever you are)
If you wanna make all of your customers run away because your and software have issues, you've made it
This is my last bad experience with BlackBerry prior to OS10
Laughable poor camera on 9900 I can't take photos of receipts and documents, and I have to charge 3 times a day (this is supposed to be a "mobile" phones? I always ended up with dead battery when I'm mobile, and I have to stuck on charger for hours waiting to charge)
And now this .... Come on RIM do something please we really like your device...
Devices I like the most are 9700 and 9780, except for desktop manager that is not backing up auto text. Great camera, great battery life.
Btw I have use the latest release of Link but still can't restore data.

Because BB10 was not an evolution from BBOS...it is completely new, and sadly they did not take all of the prior design considerations and use them when they created BB10 and it's associated toolsets.

That functionality, while requested by many, has not been implemented. There is no way for anyone here to know if/when it will ever be so.

  • Trouble synching contacts from old non BB phone

    Hi,
I am trying to import contacts from a samsung brightside onto my new q10.  I got the contacts saved onto my computer (pc)  as separate vcards.  Then, I imported them into Windows' contacts folder.  Then, using BB Link, I configured the q10 to sync with Windows Contacts.
When I sync, the entries in the Q10 look good, except that the name is repeated in the suffix.  So John Smith shows up in the Q10 as John Smith John Smith.
How can I fix this?  And is there an easier way to import these contacts?
    Thanks,
    Eric

You will need to find a way to get the contacts to a supported application on the computer, or if they are very minimal contacts, such as only a single number each, you can import them to the iPhone from the SIM, if they are the same size. If not, take it to your carrier. Many carriers have devices to read the SIM card and transfer contacts that way. This is generally the easiest method.

    Hey cosmoasif,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Follow the steps below to migrate the data over:
Connect the BlackBerry 10 smartphone to the computer using the USB cable.
At the bottom of the BlackBerry Link screen, press the up arrow to the right of the name of the new BlackBerry smartphone.
Select Restore > Restore from backup file > Legacy Device Backup Files.
    Select the desired backup file.
Place a checkmark next to the data to restore to the BlackBerry 10 smartphone. To restore all supported data, place a checkmark next to Restore all data.
Note: For a description of the BlackBerry smartphone databases, refer to KB03974.
    Press Restore.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • Importing Contacts From An Excel File for Z10's

    Good Day,
I know there is a way to do this using older versions of the Desktop Software. The main problem is that with the Z10's and our OS 10 devices that it isn't recognized. What we want to do in our office is that when we hand out our mobile phones, that we are able to place a company directory of sorts for all those who have mobile phones distributed to us. We already have this information in an excel file. I want to know if there is a way to do this, so that the contacts can be placed on the new device and merged or synced with the contacts from their older phones or exchange account. Sincerely appreciate any assistance that I can get.

A way that I was able to move contacts was to do this from Hotmail.
Create a Hotmail account for each phone. If you want them all identical, then create one account and sync asw many phones as you want. Sync the Z10's to the hot mail account. Hotmail can be synced to MS Outlook. Outlook can get the addresses or contacts from Excel as an import. You will have to look up how to do this, but it can be done.
Import the Excel contacts in to Outlook. Sync Outlook to Hotmail. Sync the Z10 or Q10 to Hotmail. You will have to leave the phones synced. The phones will be active to Hotmail. This is a good way to operate because the Hotmail account will become a cloud backup for the contacts.
To sync Outlook to Hotmail, you will have to install the Outlook Hotmail Tool from Microsoft. It is called the Hotmail Outlook Connector.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24677
What I like is when I make a change to the contracts in any of our Z10 phones, or Outlook, or Hotmail, everything follows the change. For us it has been working very well. The phone can theoretically be anywhere on the planet, and as long as it has proper internet access it will be updated.

  • Getting email contacts from Blackberry to Iphone 4

I am unable to get my old contacts from Blueberry to Iphone4. Do I have to manually add all contacts and emails in the new phone. I have used VZ contact transfer through My Verizon. It didn't transferr all contacts and no emails.

Unfortunately email account transfers just aren't possible between Blackberry OS and iOS. They're just too different, so you'll need to copy over those server-bits manually.
As for contact transfers, I would see about Syncing the Blackberry with your PC or Mac via Blackberry Desktop:
    Mac: http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/desktop_mac.jsp
    PC: http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/desktop_pc.jsp
(if your older handset is unsupported, there is a link on the bottom of the PC page to download earlier versions)
Once the contact information is actually on the PC or Mac, syncing will be much easier to do through applications like Outlook, Entourage, Address Book, or even online solutions like MobileMe and Google Sync.

  • I deleted a contact, but they still show up in my text options to send.  I would like to delete the contact from my texts too.

I deleted a contact, but they still show up in my text options to send.  I would like to delete the contact from my texts too.

No don't restore your iphone. I've done that several times & it has never worked. -I still have deleted contacts in my iphone texts.  *However if you do restore it you will not lose all your data, pics, text messages etc if you backup in iCloud. It restores back to original phone. Very nice :). Anyhowwww....
I JUST  figured it out!! :))). Remove the contact from recents.
Start a text. You should see the deleted contact. All the way to the right of the name is a symbol. The symbol is a circle with "i" in the middle. Click that symbol then in red lettering click "remove from recents".
