Transferrin Photo's from Mac to Mac

Just bought brand new Macbook Pro. Currently have an Imac with a bunch of photo's on it in Iphoto. Also have a Network set-up in my house. Question is: What's the easiest way to transfer photo's from my Imac to my new Macbook Pro? Thx.

If your local network is hard wired just copy the entire iPhoto Library package from the Pictures folder on your iMac to the Pictures folder on the MBP. If it's a wireless network then I'd either connect the two via Target Disk Mode or, if you have one, use an external HD to move the library.

How do I get MacPro iPhoto events downloaded to my iPad mini? iCloud is set up. Uploading photo streams from mini to Mac works fine.

Set up the events as albums on your Mac Pro in iPhoto. Then use iTunes to sync your iPad.
Start iTunes on your Mac Pro. Connect your iPad and select it in the left sidebar. If you do not see a left sidebar use the View menu to View Sidebar.
Once you select your iPad look in the right window and find the Photos tab. Select the album or albums you want copied from iPhoto on your Mac Pro to your iPad. Then click on Apply.

  • How do I sync/copy a photo album from iPad2 to Mac?

    Hi,
Sorry if this was asked before but, how can I transfer a photo album from my iPad2 to a Mac computer using Lion?  Somehow iPhoto on my Mac can't find my photo album on the iPad.  Album doesn't show up in iTunes either.
    Thanks in advance for helping!

For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (which has a free lite version called Simple Photo & Video Transfer) which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • Transitioning photo library from PC to Mac/iPhoto

I am just starting to acclimate myself to a new Macbook Pro, and I'm looking for suggestions on how to handle my photo library from my old PC desktop.  Because of the limited storage on my laptop, my plan is to keep my photo library on an external hard drive.
All of the photos on my old PC are currently organized by year, then by month (a decade's worth of photos), and I'd love to take advantage of this switch to use keywords, faces, and other features of iPhoto for more specific tagging of my photos.  But, due to my unfamiliarity with the way iPhoto handles its file structure, I'm a bit hesitant to dive in just yet.  Does anyone have suggestions for how I should go about moving my photo library over to the Mac?
For reference, I'm using Mac OS X 10.9.1.

As well as changing from PC to Mac, you're also now thinking of changing the paradigm of how you manage your Photos. What does that mean?
    Well this is file organisation:
All of the photos on my old PC are currently organized by year, then by month
You could use precisely the same structure to organise word processing documents, or powerpoints or whatever.
But that file is not your Photo. It is just a container -  a box - for your Photograph. Think of it this way:  In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
The difference shows best in iPhoto, where you can search on the same things as the file manager, plus a whole lot more, you can organise in many, many ways, effectively and efficiently.
As you want to store your photos on an external then you need a HD, connected to your Mac via USB or Thunderbolt and formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
On that you create a LIbrary and import your Photos to it.
(And you'll need a second one (at least) for back up.)
You can work iPhoto in two modes: one it manages the files and the other you do. Use the first.
For more on iPhoto and file management see this User Tip:

I strongly urge you to import a couple of hundred images to iPhoto and explore first. It's a good app, but it's not for everyone. So get some in and see what it does (and doesn't).
As for organising: Here's a canned answer that might suggest some possibilities:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.
    Finally, as an FYI:

  • Can you sync photo editing from iPhone to Mac

I synced some iPhoto events from my Mac to the new iPhoto app on my iPhone. Then I edited some pictures, red-eye removal and warm/cool balance. Is there a way that the changes to my photo can be copied to iPhoto on my Mac because it doesn't seem to work automatically through syncing.

Connect your iPhone with the cable.
In iTunes, select your phone under Devices and go to the Photos tab on the right.
There you can say "Sync photos from iPhoto" and also select which events you want to sync.
So the photo's sync. But what does NOT sync, is the editing of photo's on your phone, such as red-eye removal.

  • Best Way to Export Photos/Videos from iDevice to Mac?

I recently switched from Windows to a Mac. Honestly, OS X works like a beautifully, and I'm loving it so far.
However, one thing has been annoying me like crazy. How does one export photos and videos from their iDevice (i.e. iPhone, iPad) WITHOUT iPhoto? Because, quite frankly, iPhoto just (for lack of a better word) *****. Love the idea that it can manage photos for me, but I want to be able to see them individually as files on a drive for sake of easily carrying it around on my external and plugging in to view them on any computer. I've been organizing my photos in Windows in the Photos folder that is created by default for years now. All I had to do was plug in my iDevice and I would simply cut the images to my hard drive. They were there, and I could see them as actual files instead of whatever file system iPhoto uses for its library.
Please give me solutions that retain all EXIF data in the photos and videos. Not only does iPhoto prevent me from seeing the photos individually as files, but whenever I export the photos to see as actual files, it messes up the dates on the photos, making it look like they were taken on the days I exported them using iPhoto. I can't even understand why it even works like that.

    Interdimension wrote:
I see that Image Capture works well for imports, as it doesn't mess up the EXIF data. I guess this is how those of us who want to export the actual files are supposed to do it.
iPhoto keeps the 'actual' files in the Mac's Pictures folders, just open the iPhoto library (rightclick, choose Show Package Contents), they are in the folder labeled 'Originals'

  • What's the best way to transfer 11,000 photo's from my old mac to my new one?

What's the best way to transfer 11,000 photo's on iphoto to iphoto on my new mac.  I've just spent 24 hours importing them onlu for it to say there is not enough space available  - BUT I'VE JUST BOUGHT AN NEW UPGRADED MAC?

    Don't import them.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Iphoto lost all photos - can i copy photos back from ipod to mac?

Had an issue with corrupt files in my iphoto library. Did a bunch of stuff and upgraded etc....now iphoto is running fine...
lost a bunch of photos.. basically all corrupt and/or missing
I do have them all on my 5th gen ipod... is there anyway i can transfer photos FROM my ipod TO my mac????

Yes and no. If you had the iPod set to copy the photos as originals, then you will get the "original" photographs back (turn on disk mode and you will find them easily enough). If however, you didn't have this preference set then you will not have the "proper" photographs on there. You will just have the small scaled images which you can see on the iPod. However, if you enable disk mode you should balso be able to get these if you so wish. After all, the thumbnails will be better than nothing if the photos were important.

  • How do I transfer a Windows photo album from iPhone to Mac?

I have taken my photos from my laptop and transferred them on to my iPhone. I now want to transfer them from my iPhone on to my Macbook, but the folder won't show when the applications Image Capture and iPhoto are launched. All I want to do is get the photos that were originally on my Windows laptop from my iPhone and onto my Mac.

Try syncing iCloud Drive if you have Yosemite running on your MacBook

  • Lightroom photos--transfering from PC to MAC

I have some external drives for PC and some for MAC. How do I transfer photos in Lightroom 5 (some are still in Ltrm 3 or 4) from My Pictures on the PC to a Seagate external harddrive that is only set up for MAC (maverick) and still retain the information and images. I tried and only got blank grayish squares.

Before you do anything, be sure that you have at least two backups of all of your photos and your Lightroom Library.
Using Lightroom 5, navigate to the drive and folders you want to move, and then drag them to the new drive into the folder you want.  In order for this to work smoothly, it is important that the transfer be made in Lightroom, not by using the computer transfer function.
Your photos may be in earlier Process Versions, but the photos are not in previous versions of Lightroom.  When you installed LR5 your catalog was upgraded from the previous version of Lightroom.

  • How do I import photos import from iPhoto on Mac Os 10X yosemite?

unable to access photos and about ready to give up on lightroom. Need help please.

iPhoto stores photos in a hidden folder which makes for a challenge.
Easiest thing to do is to use the export function in iPhoto and select the
export original photo option. Export to a folder on your desktop to make it
easy to locate. You will lose any edits this way but is the only way to get
at your original RAW photos (I am assuming you are working with RAW images).
Once the export is complete, use LR Import function to either the COPY
option your photos to a new LR-managed folder of your choice, the ADD
option to add the photos to LR but leave them the photos where they
currently reside or the DNG option to copy them to a new folder and convert
your RAW images to DNG files. If you use the copy or DNG options, you can
delete the folder you used when you exported the photos from iPhoto but
don't delete the folder if you go with the add option.

  • Transfer photos from iPhone to mac without iPhoto / image capture and preview doesn't see device

Hello. I'd like to transfer photos from my iPhone to my Mac. I read (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083) that iPhoto is the standard application for that; I'd like to do without. I read that image capture (http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/8954/copy-photos-off-iphone-without-iph oto) or even Preview (http://osxdaily.com/2010/07/10/transfer-photos-from-iphone-to-computer/)  could help. Neither of them see my iPhone although cable connected and iTunes does. So my question is two: If Preview and Image Capture are ineed supposed to, why don't they? And is there any other way?
    Thanks

I dont like iphoto so the easiest way to do it is using image capture, just plug in your iphone launch image capture from your applications folder and import all images or just selected images into any folder you want.
Moreover, you can follow this page about how to transfer photo/pictures from iPhone to Mac, which give an easy guide to figure out this problem.
    Have a good luck!

  • Is it possible to transfer photos, files from iphone 5s to macbook pro via bluetooth?

Before I got the iphone 5s, I was using a Nokia phone.  I was able to transfer photos, files from my Nokia phone to macbook pro via bluetooth connections.  It was very simple and POSSIBLE (even though apple support staff said it was not possible to do so).  My macbook pro does NOT need to be paired with Nokia phone as long as it can DISCOVER the nokia phone and vice versa.
Hence, after i got the iphone 5s recently, I'd expected both devices (iphone 5s and macbook pro) to communicate and connect via bluetooth as easily as Nokia phone.  However, I was disappointed to find out the iphone 5s kept "searching" for discoverable device even though my macbook DISCOVERED the iphone!!  Thus, I was NOT able to transfer any files from these two devices.
Any apple technical people care to explain why BOTH are apple products cant work?  A Nokia phone and macbook can.  Very strange, isn't it?
