Transferring 6,000 photos from iphone 3GS to iMac OS X 10.6

i have finally purchased an iMac, haven't yet performed the 'switch' from my Windows XP desktop and haven't connected my iphone to the iMac yet since my Apple salesguy said everything would be erased from my phone if i did that without first bringing in both computers so they could do the transfer for me. But i want to transfer the photos from my iphone to my iMac NOW and not wait for everything to be transferred first....has anybody done this yet, and if so, did you lose everything on your iphone ? I don't want to synch my phone yet as i'm afraid i'll later get duplicate contacts and calendar info when i later do the switch from pc to imac. I also have MobileMe but not sure on the details of using it with my new imac if i haven't yet done the switch...again, don't want duplicates. Thanks for any help anybody can offer.

There are some applications that let uses access the iPhone without having to go thru iTunes. You may have to set up iTunes to not sync when the phone is connected first.
A couple of them are DiskAid, iPhone Explorer 2.005 and iPod Access Photo 1.7.1.
If you have iTunes set to open when the iPhone is connected and sync automatically you might want to zip iTunes, delete the unzipped iTunes before connecting the iPhone.
You did set up iTunes and iPhone to use the full sized image files and not a reduce version, right?

  • How to download photos from iphone 3gs to iMac

How do I download photos from my 3GS iPhone to my Mac? I have tried to let iPhoto do it but the phone never shows up as a device in the left column.

First connect your iPhone 3GS to your Mac via the USB port, then open iPhoto if you see a label in the left panel that says Devices but no label for your iPhone point at the Device label a Show should appear to the right, click on Show. Note: your iPhone must be unlocked.

I cannot see the Iphone connected in either finder or image capture!

    Any ideas brainiacs???

If there are photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll, your iPhone should also be detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer, which means being detected by iPhoto or the Image Capture application for importing the photos.
Since the iPhone does not support disk mode, it won't appear on your Desktop or via the Finder as a connected external drive.
Does your iPhone's Camera Roll include any photos that were saved from a received email, from a website, or from an MMS?
If so, this has been reported to cause problems for some with the iPhone being recognized as a digital camera. I haven't experienced the same, so I don't know what triggers this specifically.
If your iPhone's Camera Roll includes such photos that you want to save, email these photos to yourself followed by saving the photos from the received email on your Mac. After emailing these photos, delete these photos from the iPhone's Camera Roll.

  • HT201302 how do i backup photos from iPhone 5 to iMac, if my iPhone won't turn on

how do i back up photos from iPhone 5 to iMac if my iPhone 5 will not turn on?

If your iPhone will not turn on, then it's too late to perform a backup.  Backups must occur before catastrophes, as they cannot occur after a catastrophe.
Of course, if you use Photo Stream or iCloud Photo Library, then your photos should already be on your Mac.

  • Transfer photos from iPhone 6 to iMac?

How to transfer just recent photos from iPhone 6 to my iMac?

Connect the iPhone to a USB port on your iMac and launch iPhoto. The Import panel will show you the photos grouped by "new photos" and "already imported".  Select the new photos you want to import in the panel and press "Import Selected".

  • Transferring Photo Albums from Iphone 3Gs to IMac?

    Hey All,
I have an Iphone 3Gs, that was synced with my laptop. That died, so I bought an IMac, and am trying to find out if there is any way I can get my old photo albums off my iphone onto my IMac? I know how to do it from pictures that i take on the phone, but didn't know if there was any way to save the old pictures I have???
    Thank you x

You will need a third party recovery software tool (lots available) to be able to extract them but it can be done.
Just bear in mind that the images on the phone are NOT the originals but are compressed reduced size versions for the iPhone screen.
Google is your friend for the tool.

  • How can I transfer photos from iPhone 3GS to MacBook?

    Please, I need help!!!
How can I transfer all the pics I have on my iphone 3g s to my macbook?!?!??!?!?!

You can import photos from your iPhone's Camera Roll only.
With a Mac, this can be with iPhoto or with the Image Capture application.
Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process (which are stored in your iPhone's Photo Library) cannot be imported by your computer or transferred in the opposite direction. Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone are optimized for viewing on your iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process - the original resolution of these photos is reduced. Photos transferred from your compute to your iPhone should remain on your computer and be included with your computer's backup.

  • Sync photos from iphone 3gs to pc

I am trying to sync my photo albums to my pc from my iPhone 3GS, my ultimate goal is to creat seperate photo albums within my photo gallery on my iPhone.

The photo sync is one way - computer to iphone.  Organize them on your computer and sync them to iphone.

  • Best way to upload photos from iPhone 3GS?

I have an iPhone 3GS. I just took a bunch of photos on vacation. Now I would like to upload them to my Windows XP PC. I know I can send them via email one at a time, but I'd like a way to send them all at once. I do have a Dropbox account. I tried to download the Dropbox app, but it says it requires iOS 7. I tried to download iOS 7, but was told it can't run on the 3GS.
Is there a way that I can send all of the photos on my iPhone to my PC all at once?
    Thanks

You don't need any App. Attach your iPhone to a USB port on your computer and follow the instructions here: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support

  • Cannot import photos from iPhone 3GS

For some mysterious reason I can no longer import photos or videos from my iPhone 3GS. I have iPhoto'09 (v. 8.0.4) on Mac OS X 10.5.7. Upon launching iPhoto my phone is recognized and the correct number of photos and videos is displayed, albeit without previews. Any attempt to import either photos or videos results in the error "The following file could not be imported. The file is in unrecognized format." (for photos) or "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image." (for video files)
Of course all photo and video files display just fine on my iPhone. The "Image capture" app is also unable to import anything - it goes through the motions of importing, but in the end nothing gets imported (but it does not display any error message.)
I restarted both the computer and the phone a few times, no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I've managed to fix this.
After 3 attempts, Image Capture (instead of iPhoto) was finally able to pull my photos/video off my iPhone. There were a few shots missing, I'm guessing those were the "corrupt" ones. No idea how or why I could end up with corrupt images, the only shots on my phone were ones that I'd taken with my phone.
After that, I opened up Photos on my iPhone, selected every photo and every video and deleted them all.
Then I took a couple shots with the phone, re-opened iPhoto, and everything seemed to work dandy.
    Still. Lame.

  • Need third party software to move photos from iphone 3GS to my PC.

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can recommend me a good software package that allows me to use my iphone as an external memeory drive so that I can copy 4000(!) photos from my 'Photo Library' without loosing the quality???
    (I'm running Windows 7)

Thanks for the replies, problem is I stupidly saved my photos on my iphone when my PC crashed. I wiped my PC and having only just bought the iphone didn't realise I couldn't copy these photos back to my PC.
The only copies I have of these photos are now STUCK on my iphone! I really need to be able to copy them to my PC.
I've heard that there are a few programes that can help out with this, I just wanted a recommendation before I buy one.
    Thanks

  • Transferring Photos from iPhone 3GS to iPhoto

IPhone is not visible in iPhoto so I am not able to transfer my iPhone pics to iPhoto.

Can anyone help me resolve this
I have reinstalled iTunes and iPhoto and Rebooted my MacBook Pro 15''

I was having a pretty serious problem that started when I upgraded to iPhone 3.1. While iTunes recognized my iPhone, iPhoto didn't.
And if I opened iPhoto, I couldn't see the camera. Same with Image Capture - it said no device detected. I know there was no problem in 3.0.
Luckily, there are other ways to get the photos off the iPhone, and luckily iTunes recognizes the phone, but that of course is not the point.
Good news is that I believe I found the fix. Click through and I'll see if I can explain it.
For some reason, it has to do with photos saved to the camera roll that were not shot with the iPhone. In other words, photos saved from email or screenshots. I have no idea why that would be, but once I deleted the non-shot photos, iPhoto launched normally and all was right with the world.
The problem is mentioned several times in the Apple support forums and everyone with it is running iPhone 3.1 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Restoring the iPhone, rebooting and repairing permissions from the Snow Leopard disc has no effect. The only fix I've found is my weird one.
Anyone else seeing this problem? Anyone find a different fix? Please let me know in the comments or interact with me on Twitter or Facebook.
    Thanks and thanks for calling.
