Transferring Adobe CS3 from Macbook to Macbook Pro

I am upgrading my current MacBook to a MacBook Pro and I had a few questions about transferring my current software. At a Apple retail location, I was told that there was some way I could transfer my copy of Adobe CS3 to the new computer without using the disc (I don't have it anymore), by deactivating my account online and then reactivating it on the new computer, or something along those lines. I was wondering if anyone knew the exact process, or if it is even possible without the disc.
Also, does anyone know if MS Office will just transfer with Migration Assistant, or do I need to deactivate it too somehow?

You're asking two separate questions here: how to handle the install, and how to handle the deactivation/activation.
I always do my (current release) Adobe installs from the trial version downloads available on their website. You can just download the dmg files and install a full (non-crippled except for the 30-day restriction) version of the product. That's probably the least complicated route to take assuming you have a decent internet connection.
Regarding activation, if you only want the new computer's copy of your Adobe apps to be activated , you can deactivate them on the old computer by going to Help -> Deactivate (I'd recommend this if you're going to sell it). You may wish to wait until you have a working install on your new computer to do this though, and Adobe's CS3 EULA allows you to do this.
Adobe doesn't go out of its way to publicize it, but their EULA explicitly allows the activation and use of the software on multiple computers of the same owner. Direct quote from the Photoshop CS3 EULA (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/eula/photoshopcs3.html):
2.4 Portable or Home Computer Use. Subject to the important restrictions set forth in Section 2.5 below, the primary user of the Computer on which the Software is installed (“Primary User”) may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable Computer or a Computer located at his or her home, provided that the Software on the portable or home Computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary Computer. You may be required to contact Adobe in order to make a second copy.
I personally take advantage of this clause to run some CS3 apps non-simultanously using a single serial number on both my desktop (Mac Pro) and my laptop (Macbook Pro). I didn't have to contact Adobe. I just installed from the trial download, went to Help -> Activate, and entered my serial number.

  • Adobe CS3 and MacBook Pro: any problems?

i am about to purchase a new 15" macbook pro and adobe cs3.
has anyone experienced problems or issues with cs3 running on their macbook pro?
    thanks!

    Hi,
I have purchased CS3 and I have a G5 Tower and a MBP dual 2 core (bought it 2 months ago)
Let me tell you that I am very unpleased with CS3 on both machines.
On the G5 it is 10 times slower than CS1 for some reason it takes a lot of processing power and RAM wich the G5 does poorly.
On the MBP it processes fine but I only have 1 Gig of RAM and I feel that I don't have enough. Plus it doesn't help that a laptop HD is slower at opening files so it really makes it look like it runs slow...I should of bought the 24in imac instead due to the fact that it doesn't cost 900$ to buy a extra 2 Gigs of RAM
    and the HD is faster

  • Transferring iPhoto book from MacBook Pro to iMac

    Hi everyone
I am the proud owner of a new iMac. I am trying to transfer an album I started on my husband's MacBook Pro, but all I can do is to export the photos...I already imporated all my events from the MacBook to the iMac. Now, I was to save the work that i have done on the album itself. Is the transfer feasible? Tx

By album do you mean book?  If so then you can't transfer a book from one library to another because the book is virtual, existing only in the database files of the library.
What you can do is duplicate the library with the book and in the copy delete all photos excecpt for those in the book. Then copy the book to the other Mac and use it to complete the book.  You can copy additional photos/albums from the large library to the book library with the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.
This tutorial describes how to cull the library down to just the book: #9 - Archiving an iPhoto 7(08)/8(09)/9(11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date

  • Transferring iPhoto Library from MacBook Pro to iMac

I am trying to transfer my iPhoto library from my MacBook Pro to my iMac. My software is up to date on both computers. I put my MacBook Pro into firewire mode and tranferred over the iPhoto Library package file. I put it directly into my iPhoto library folder. I double clicked on the file and iPhoto opened, but it said that the file can not be read. Is this because on my laptop I have iPhoto 7.1.5 and on my desktop I have 6.0.6? I have also migrated from the iMac to the MacBook Pro a few years ago, could that be causing a problem? I called Apple about it and they said there is no reason this should not be working.

Is this because on my laptop I have iPhoto 7.1.5 and on my desktop I have 6.0.6?
This is exactly why. iPhoto 6 cannot read the iPhoto 7 Library. No version of iPhoto can read a later version's Library. The app is backward compatible, not forward compatible.

  • Transferring iTunes library from MacBook Pro to MacBook Air

I used this site to transfer my iTunes library from my MBP to my MBA: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527, using an external hard drive to make the transfer.
The songs are now all listed in my iTunes music file on the MBA, but they don't show up when I launch iTunes. Any suggestions?

Just solved the problem. Needed to launch iTunes on the MBA, then went to File, Add to Library, then marked entire list of songs and clicked "Open."

  • Transfering iTunes music from Macbook Pro to Windows Vista Computer?

I just bought a Vista based computer and I wanted to use it for my music since it has a lager hard drive than my mac. How can I get my music off the mac and onto the pc? I have tried using the iPod to transfer it, but Windows will not read it since it is not formated for windows. I read that on a Apple article. At one point in time, I had taken some music off a Mac Pro or P5 desktop and put it onto my Windows XP laptop. I cannot remember how I did this though. If anyone has any suggestions, that will be great. Also would it be easier to maybe "link the two computers together"? I don't know if that is possible. You guys tell me. Thanks again for any replies on how to accomplish this or links to places that could help me. I really would like to make this work.

thanks i figured it out all i did was open ibooks and then click and dragged into a folder i made on the desktop and that worked wonderful so easy to do
    thanks again

How do I sync contacts and calendar from macbook pro to ipad2?

I have the same problem and have not been able to get contacts transferred from my MacBook Pro to my iPad 2.  I have checked "sync contacts", when it does the sync it says it is syncing contacts, but the address book on the iPad remains empty.  I tried checking the box under "advanced" that says to replace the contacts information on the iPad, sync again, same result—an empty address book on the iPad.  Any suggestions?

  • I transferred data to my MacBook Pro, then I accidentally did an UNDO and all the data desapeared....What can I do to recover it???

I transferred data to my MacBook Pro, then I accidentally did an UNDO and all the data desapeared....What can I do to recover it???

Sorry, but it's probably lost, then, presuming you never made a backup. There's a dim chance that you could recover at least some of the data using a file recovery utility such as Data Rescue from Prosoft Engineering, but the chances aren't good and get lower the more you use your computer.
