Transferring Albums

Is there any way to transfer the album and folder structure (with correct location markers) from one computer to another?
I copied the iPhoto Library, preferences folder and ALL of my original photos, and put all in the same location on the new computer as on the old.
In iPhoto on the new computer I can see the album/folder structure and thumbnails of the photos all in the right place. But when I double click to see the photo in normal resolution, I get an error message saying that the photo can't be located.
So: how can I transfer and preserve a useable album/folder structure ?

But if the album/folder structure was created on the first computer with the copy preference unchecked, is there any way to make it work on the second computer?
I think I have put everything in the same place (the library, preferences, and originals photos) so that they have the same path.
Not that I know of - but possibly - I do not use a referenced library and have only limited actual experience with it
One possibility (which may be an overall improvement - I do not know why you chose to use a referenced library - it seldom is a good solution) would be to convert your original library to a managed library - you can backup, check the import items option and use alias herder - http://www.rorohiko.com/aliasherder.html - to move your actual photos into the library - then (after testing the managed library) if you copy it to your new computer you will be set and all of your photos will live happily ever after

  • Transferring Album Art from a Mac to a Windows PC

I have iTunes on both my Mac and Windows PC- with the same library on both.
I found a great utility called Curator that found all my missing album art on the Mac, but it only works on the Mac, not the PC
So after spending a day finding all my missing album art on the Mac, I thought that simply copying the Album Art folder from my Mac to my Windows PC would enable me see all my art on my windows machine.
This did not work. I still have the same missing album covers.
I tried removing all Album Art from my PC (by selecting "Clear Downloaded Artwork" and then I selected all my music and chose "Get Album Artwork".
This put back all my original album art but none of the new artwork downloaded by Curator.
Does anyone know how to get iTunes to see all the Album Art in the Album art folder that I just copied from my Mac?

Diane is correct — the artwork you downloaded is embedded in the music files, so the only way to transfer the art is by transferring the files. Is there a reason you don't want to just copy your entire iTunes library from the Mac to the PC?
I don't know why dragging the artwork into the artwork box would result in a lower-quality image. What do you see when you click on the artwork box to open a full-size version? Is the picture 300x300 or better?

  • Transferring albums from older iPod to newer Mini Mac

How can I transfer some albums from my wife’s old iPod 20 GB model A1059 to our newer Mini Mac. Most of the older albums were transfered to the new computer, but somehow I must have deleted many of the albums, which are still on the old iPod.  How do I transfer those albums?  I don’t want to mess up what I currently have in my iTunes.  Any help or direction would be appreciated.

    Hhi there Vince1942,
It sounds like you have media on your iPod that you want to transfer to your Mac mini. You can use this article to transfer your iTunes Store purchases over:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer
Keep this in mind for media from other sources:
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, all podcasts from your device's Podcasts app and copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer. Learn how to transfer media to your iTunes library.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Transfering Album Artwork and Play Counts

I'm about to buy a new computer but want to make sure that when I install iTunes that I can take the play counts and album art work from my old computer and transfer them to the new one. My music is on an external hard drive and isn't an issue.

OK, so your music files are on an EHD. Is folder where your music files are located on the EHD the designated "iTunes Music" folder?
The location of the "iTunes Music" folder is set in Edit>>Preferences>>advanced>>General.
You need to have all your music files in the designated iTunes Music folder if you want a trouble free transfer. If this is not the case, you need to sort it out before the transfer. Ask if you need help with this.
Next what is the location of your iTunes folder? By default it is in My Music on the c:drive, but some people with EHDs have it on the EHD.
Assuming you have the default loaction...
The iTunes folder contains the library database files and the album artwork folder, so it will need to be transferred. The best way to do this is to install iTunes on the new PC, then drag the iTunes folder that was created out to of Music the desk top and replace it with the one from the old PC.
You will probably have to adjust the permissions of the copied iTunes folder to give your account full control or Vista may not grant the new account write access.
Then with the EHD plugged in, start iTunes and set the location of the iTunes Music folder in preferences.
If you want to copy the music to the new computer after you have everything working on the new computer, you can set the loaction of the iTunes Music folder back to iTunes Music in the iTunes folder on the c: drive and then consolidate. This will copy the files across.
    P.S. For info:
Here is the Apple help on migrating using an iPod:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
They are using the iPod as an EHD but the difference from your situation is that they assume a default set up with the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder on the c: drive.

  • Transferring album artwork from itunes to ipod

    hello,
i just bought a new ipod classic (i previously had an ipod classic with less storage) and am using the same itunes. i am now loading music onto the new ipod and am noticing that some album artwork is being transferred, some isn't. i had previously noticed this problem with my old ipod. anyone have any idea why this is happening and if there's anything i can do to make sure ALL artwork transfers? thank you!

If your iPod is set to update automatically give this a try, switching the artwork off and on again may resolve it for you:
    1. Connect your iPod
    2. Disable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
    3. Syncronise the iPod with iTunes (Right click on the iPod icon and choose Sync from the menu)
    4. Re-enable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
    5. Syncronise the iPod again.
Alternatively you could try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • Transfering album art

Hey. I got a new laptop and moved my itunes folder from my old computer to the new one. they are both windows xp. the music works on the new computer, but the thing is, the album art did not seem to transfer. the folder transfered fine, but album art shows blank when playing songs. all the album art i have, i manually added by copying from sources and pasting into the "info" section of each music file.
any suggestions on how to successfully transfer album art with the music? thanks

After much research, I have found out that iTunes 7 does not write the album art to the id3 tag of the song. So basically what I had to do was go through each album, highlight the songs for that album, view info, and copy the album art into the field in the info tag. Then iTunes forces the write to the id3 tag.
Really wish they would change that so that when album artwork is downloaded or added, it was added to the id3 tag automatically. Hopefully in the future.

I have an iMac with iPhoto 08. I plan to get a new computer in the fall. But until then, I would like to finish a few family photo albums. I know I cannot send in the books to print on my iPhoto 08. Will the albums transfer to the 11 so I can print them?
    Curiously,
    Jen

    Yes.
As always, before updating anything, back up first.

  • Transferring albums to multiple devices

    Hi,
I hope someone can help please.  My husband purchased an album from iTunes and is having trouble downloading it to his iPhone.  However the album has automatically downloaded to my iPhone.  I am unable to download it to our iPod too.  So I have a couple questions:
    1) On iTunes is there a way to have one than one device attached to the account? Where do I go to check this?
    2) If the answer to this is no then how do I tranfer the album to my husband's iPhone and to our iPod?
Also we had a MAcBook Pro for christmas so how can we copy all the music we've copied from CD's from our Toshiba to the MacBook?  I though this could be done by the iCloud but am unable to do so.
    Many thanks for your time.
    Deb

No problem, it is still much the same advice but you'll need to use third party tools to extract the data.
See this post from forum regular Zevoneer for some options.
If there is a chance that you've got some overlap you might want to use my DeDuper script. See this  thread for background.

  • Need help in transferring albums, keeping original track or

I just got a MuVo TX FM 256 mb. I want to copy whole albums onto this thing, retaining the track order. I think I need to use folders to keep albums together, but I can't figure it out. I have managed to upload three albums, and can convert to WMA format when I so choose, but the tracks go on individually, and get all mixed together. I can't find clear instructions for uploading albums. Can anyone help? Thanks!Message Edited by mcp on 2-3-2004 0:29 PM

I have been researching this also. I have a MuVo TX FM and have been using WMP to transfer the files to it to overcome the DRM problem of some files. So far all the songs are just copied over into the root directory even though they were in playlists in WMP. I believe that the MuVo TX will not support playlists at all. The songs must be in folders to transfer over in any organization. Then you can select just one folder to play? There are settings about shuffle play and skipping folders that are detailed in the instruction manual. I assume that if you want the same song in two different "playlists" on the MVo TX you have to copy it over in two different folders (duplicate file in different folders). Is that correct?
Also, SSR has a blurb at the bottom of his reply that says to "backup your player now"! How is this accomplished with the MuVo TX?

  • Transferring albums from PS 6 to PS 12

I have followed the online instructions for making a backup copy of my PS 6 files and transferring them to PS12, but I can't get PS12 to recognize the files on the backup thumbdrive.  Chat support doesn't support this and referred me to this 'portal.'  Can anyone help?

We don't know what online instructions you followed ... however, we also need to know more details, like what operating system you are using, and is this transfer all being done on one computer, or are you also transferring from computer 1 to computer 2? And when you say "I can't get PS12 to recognize the files", what files, and what did you try that isn't working?

  • Transferring Album Art to a New Computer/OS

I searched the forum and couldn't find the answer to this question:
How do I transfer my album art from one computer to another? The source computer is running Windows XP SP2, and the target computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium. I've been able to transfer everything else (playlists, ratings, etc.), but not the album art.

Try this on teh old computer.
Copy the iTunes folder to the external
Restart iTunes holding the Shift key.
    Select Choose existing library.
Select the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder you just moved.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Tick Copy files to iTunes music folder when Adding to library.
Tick Keep iTunes music folder organized.
Go to menu Advanced -> Consolidate library.
This will copy everything into external drive\iTunes\iTunes music folder.
Now you can copy this folder to the new computer.
Or if you wan tot keep it on the external, simply connect it to the new computer and
Start iTunes holding the Shift key.
    Select Choose existing library.
Select the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder on the external.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Tick Copy files to iTunes music folder when Adding to library.
Tick Keep iTunes music folder organized.
iTunes will use this for everything from now on..
