Transferring Aperture Library to Time Capsule, 63GB taking 6 days?

I've checked my connection speed says on the Network Assistant, says the Ethernet Connection speed is 1GBit/sec, I've turned wireless off so in theory it should be transferring a LOT faster than it is. Its taken 1/2 and hour so far and only done 366MB. There's around 400GB of space left on the Time Capsule so I'm just about at my wits end

Wow. I was thinking of getting this but those speeds are really slow. Once you have your Aperature Library on your Time Capsule, will you be able to access your Aperture Library from any Mac on your network? For example, I have a 27'' iMac and a Mac Mini. I have my iPhoto Library on my iMac but would like to use that iPhoto Library when I turn on my Mac Mini. Can I do that? Have both computers open my Library from the networked Time Capsule? Is that what you are trying to do?

  • Advice: transferring itunes library to Time Capsule?

We just got a Time Capsule (wireless router + HD) and I would like to move my itunes libary there, so that when I load itunes on my laptop (thinkpad, winxp sp2) it will look in the itunes library on the external Time Capsule drive rather than looking on my laptop hd -- it doesn't really matter that it's a Time Capsule, just that it's an external (network, not usb or firewire) storage device.
Why: to be able to delete the library from my laptop hd, which is starting to fill up. I don't really need to carry around all my music on my laptop, after all, that's what the ipod is for. I still have a working itunes library, I'm not trying to fix something that's broken (yet!), just trying to free up space on my laptop hd for other things.
    Questions:
    1. I see lots of threads with people having trouble accessing external hd's. Is there a preferred way to do this so that I don't screw it up?
    2. I already have backed up my whole itunes folder to the Time Machine, just copied the files using my file copy utility. I'd just as soon not have to copy it all again to use it as my itunes library (instead of just as a backup) -- can I just tell itunes to look there rather than looking on my c: drive, or will that mess w/ my backup? Is the backup already usable as the main library, or do I have to recreate it somehow, and how?
    3. Ongoing backup: I would plan to backup the Time Machine itunes library to another external hd (usb), so I still have a backup...again, the whole thing would then be off my laptop hd.
    4. Other advice?
    Thanks!

Hello Styles36. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Can anyone give me a step-by-step assist on how to transfer and compress my dvd library to my time capsule using something other than Handbrake (will not recognize my 32 bit VLC) or Mac the Ripper.
Other than copy files to the Time Capsule (TC), your questions are really not related to AirPort Networking or Apple-specific software so you may find better results in getting a step-by-step for using either Handbrake or Mac the Ripper in one of their forums. Note: There are a number of beta 64-bit versions of VLC floating around on the Internet. Just do an Internet search and you will find them. Most folks stick to the 32-bit versions of both programs for reliability.
As far as copying the DVD Library, since these are large files, you will find that you will want to connect your MacBook Pro directly, by Ethernet, to the TC. Copying would be as simple as using the Finder. The TC's drive will show up in the Shared section.

  • HT1449 Can I move my iTunes library onto Time Capsule and share it across my devices (similar to a NAS drive)?

    Hi
Would anyone know if I can I move my iTunes library onto Time Capsule and share it across my devices (similar to a NAS drive)?
This would give me some hard drive space on my iMac and more importantly mean my iTunes library is available all the time. Although I have Home sharing I need my iMac on and if not I use iTunes on iCloud I always seem to be downloading the tracks I need.
    Current configuration / devices:
    iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007 - nearly full!
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    OSX Mavericks
    Time Capsule (1TB)
    iPad
    iPod Touch
    Apple TV
    iTunes 11.1.5 (5)
    Many thanks

What "devices" are these?  By devices I normally understand i-devices and not computers.  How many computers?
If you put the whole library on the Time Capsule (TC) you can only use it with one computer at a time because the iTunes library file can only be opened by one copy of iTunes at a time.  If you put only media on the TC but have a copy of the library files on each computer you can use media by multiple computers but you then have the headache of trying to make sure that any changes done to the collection by one computer are mirrored by the libraries on the other computers which will be more or less independent.
I hope this TC isn't also your backup drive.  When the TC drive fails (and it will someday) then your whole collection is gone.  Don't rely upon Apple to always have copies for you to download.  For one, if a distributor puylls an item then it is gone period.  Additionally, Apple only keeps media, not the actual organization that is your set of library files.  If you do this, buy another backup drive.

  • My backup to Time Capsule is taking over 4 million days. How can I shorten the time? I am not able to connect through ethernet. How do I fix this?

Not only that but my Mac Pro keep running and does not stop, my Address book has a blue light under it but wont open, the light for my monitor in the bottom right corner wont turn on or off. Please need help...

It sounds like there is an issue with the Mac itself.
Use the verify disk A5 in troubleshooting.

Even if you cannot connect by ethernet, at current location.. you can simply disconnect the TC from the network and bring it to the Mac and plug it in by ethernet. The TC can be reset if you haven't got a suitable current setup (save previous setup before you change it) and run just as backup device.. do the backup and then return it to the network.
If this is just a standard incremental backup.. then something has broken. The issue is not the TC pe se but failure in hardware somewhere.

You’re running an outdated copy of Safari on your Desktop. That won’t work.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Check that the Safari application is in that folder. If it is, use it, and delete the copy on your Desktop. Never move or copy built-in applications.
If you've deleted Safari from the Applications folder, back up all data, then reinstall OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • Access iPhoto library in time capsule

    Hello,
I have my iPhoto library in time capsule. Everything is ok with my mac, view, edit, stream, etc.
But some times I dont bring my Mac home, and I would like access my library from my iPad and if possible stream to apple tv, like i do it from Mac.
Since its not possible to access my library with iPhoto for iOS, is there any app that does it?
    Thanks,
    ruirego

No.  The two iPhoto apps have only their name in common.  There's no interaction between the two possible. You can send a feature requres to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/.

  • Can't Access iphoto Library on Time Capsule

I can’t access one of my iphoto’s library on time capsule. I tried the permission keys- alt+cmd- fix and the Caution warning still pops up. All my libraries are working fine, but this particular one hasn’t allow me to enter the permissions fix window despite is set up as a default library- Your help much appreciate it. Thanks!

Have you opened this one over a wireless connection in the past?
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

  • Aperture Library and Time Machine back up

I just did my first Time Machine back-up on an external HD, currently have no more space on my Mac's HD.
Can I delete all of my Aperture Library to make room for new projects and rest assured that these are backed-up on my external HD?

To use your Time Machine backup with aperture, you need to restore the Aperture library from Time Machine.
A Time Machine backup is a great backup scheme and allows you to recover your files, if need be,  but it is not an archive, that you can use instead of the backed-up files.
I just did my first Time Machine back-up on an external HD, currently have no more space on my Mac's HD.
Move your Aperture library to a second drive, before you delete the library from your Mac's HD. Otherwise you will not be able to useit with Aperture. Make sure the drive you use for your Aperture library and and other media is formatted for Mac, see this link:  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture
And include the new drive into your Time Machine backup, so it will be backed up as well.

  • Managed library with Time Capsule

I have just started to move my stuff from a PC to my new MAC so I am not totally up to speed with the MAC yet, so please excuse me.
I have a Time Capsule(TC) connected to my MAC via an ethernet cable and it also acts as my wireless router.
I am transferring 10,000 photos to Aperture and was considering using the TC to store the masters. Three questions:
    1) The pros and cons of this approach?
    2) Can the files be accessed wirelessly by my Mac Book Pro?
3)How do I set up an Aperture library in the TC and create a new directory separate from Time Machine backup?
    Many thanks.
    Derek.

the drive holding your library must be mounted on your desktop before you launch iTunes.
you could ensure the TC's drive is mounting automatically @ startup by adding it to your login items via system preferences > accounts > login items.

  • Restoration of deleted Aperture project from Time Capsule - is it possible?

Hi, I have used Time Capsule to back up my Aperture library. Today I deleted a project by mistake. I am unable to open the aperture project library from yesterdays backup to find my lost project. I have to copy the entire library and there is not room on my harddrive. It does not restore it - only offers to copy the entire 138 Gig library of pictures. If I make room and copy same 118 Gig library can any one advise how one opens it, accesses it, places it etc so that Aperture will open this previous complete version as opposed to the current version (in which the project is deleted?)
Thnx ++ I am desperate. John McKaigney

Sorry, I don't have the answer for you but would suggest that if you have not already done so, that you should also post in the Aperture forum. There are a number of threads there about library restorations.

  • ITunes library on Time Capsule... Solution?

I recently bought a Time Capsule (2013 Edition) and transferred my iTunes library to it.  But now I get "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."  Is there a solution?

Yes, you can access your iTunes library wirelessly. I moved all of my iTunes video to mine (110 gigs and growing!). I then just copied it to iTunes on my MacBook (but turned off the setting in preferences where it copies it to your local iTunes library).
If your library is as big as mine, be sure to be on a real 802.11n network to copy it over, or plug in an ethernet cable between your Mac and TC for faster transfer.

  • Moving iTunes library from Time Capsule back to MacBook HD?

Recently I moved my iTunes media to my Time Capsule to free up space on my MacBook Pro. I want to move it back. How do I do that? When I look at my "Music" folder, the files seem to be there and then I double click on a song file and it opens. THis is after I have reset the file location preference.

    Get her back
Are the files stored in the Aperture Library or do you have them stored somewhere else?
And if you can't answer that one you will need to bring her back.

  • Move iTunes Library to Time Capsule

A while back, and against Apple Support's advice, I moved my iTunes library from my MacBook Pro to a networked WD 2TB hard drive connected to my LinkSys E4200 via USB 2.0. I have read that USB protocol transfers in bursts, and is not adequate to house the library and to facilitate syncing of our iPhone 5C, 5S, and iPad Mini. Every time we sync our devices, we get an error message that X number of songs were unable to sync. It has made it virtually impossible to listen to iTunes on the computer as well.
I will be getting a 2TB Time Capsule for Christmas, and wanted to know if I can use it like a networked hard drive to store my iTunes Media Library as well as Time Machine backups. I would also like to know what the steps would be to transfer my current library from my networked drive to the time capsule and how best to back up that directory seeing as the Time Capsule version will be the only one. The difficulty I see lies in that it will require having two networks up at the same time, unless I can connect directly to the old hard drive via USB, move the files to the Time Capsule, and then tell iTunes where they are.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for the feedback. I've decided to go with the same setup. I figured the external drive would not be backed up to the TC, but that's ok. (Too bad it can't, though)
I'm in the process of transferring my media files over to the drive. It takes several hours. The first time I tried, it actually hit some error in the middle and just stopped...so only about half of my music got copied. I cleared it out and am starting over. We'll see how it goes.
I've read on some threads that people have recommended moving the entire iTunes folder over manually, as opposed to just moving the media location through iTunes preferences. I chose to do the latter. So, if I take my laptop away from home, I should still be able to open up and view the itunes library, even if the source files aren't available to be played. I'm curious if/how iTunes Match would work in that scenario? I guess I will try it and see...
    Thanks again

  • How do I synchronize my iPod to the same Aperture library every time?

(I don't know whether to post this under Aperture or iTunes.)
I have a very large photo library. Because the library is larger than my MBP's internal hard drive, I have to keep it on an external drive. Of course, this means that iTunes will remove my photos from my iPod if the external drive is disconnected when I sync.
My idea was to create a second library specifically for the few hundred photos I want to keep on my iPod. However, iTunes only gives "Aperture" as an option, and only shows the library I'm currently using. If I'm using a different library, then the next time I sync, all the photos disappear from my iPod.
What I want is to have iTunes sync my iPod with a specific Aperture library, whether or not it's the one being used at the moment. Is this possible?

    Hello Jody,
Congratulations on your new computer! If you successfully transferred your media from your previous computer to your new computer, you should be able to sync that content to your iPod using the usual syncing steps outlined in the article below:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
