Transferring audiobooks

'm transferring my itunes library to my new computer. The music transfers, but not the audiobooks. Any suggestions?

I tried using Soundtaxi, Tunebite and some other programs that claim to convert M4B to MP3, but every one I tried had problems; some limit the length to 30 or 60 seconds, others seem to require iTunes to be installed, one wouldn't recognize M4B files even though the advertising said it would. One even tries to feed the M4B into Windows Media Player, which is a bit dumb because WMP has no clue how to handle M4B.
I don't intend to pay for a full version of any software until I can find a demo that will let me convert just one chapter of one audiobook - if and when I find something, I'll gladly pay for the licensed version, but so far nothing has come close and I'm not paying yet more money for something that turns out not to work.
If anyone has suggestions for a program that'll convert the audiobook files, I'd like to hear them. Yes, I know that it's technically illegal to do this; however I'm not doing this to give away free copies - I just want to be able to play the files I paid my money for, and have a right to.

  • Transferring Audiobooks with Overdrive Media Console

Overdrive Media Console does not connect with itunes when trying to transfer a book to iphone or ipad and therefore doesnt recognize devices. Was fine until updated to Overdrive 3.3 followed by update to itunes 11.1.4.62. Running Windows 7 64 bit on MacBook Pro boot camp (WIndows) portion of disk. I know this was a problem a few years ago. Tried deleting and reinstalling both programs a few times but didnt resolve issue. Anyone know how to resolve this?

I agree that transferring audiobooks to an iPhone using Overdrive is very flaky.  My biggest issue now is that when I do a transfer, about every 3rd or 4th segment doesn't transfer successfully.  I have to go back and select those and transfer again and then they are out of order with no apparent way to put them in the correct order.  So when I start listening to the book, I have to closely monitor when I am at the end of a part so that I can manually select the next part.
    My latest transfer of a book with 14 parts placed 2 versions in Audiobooks with the order 5, 12, 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14. (missing parts 4, 7, and 11)
    When I went back to Overdrive and selected parts 4, 7, and 11 to transfer, my iPhone then had a playlist with the book with the order 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 4, 7, 11.
    Crazy!!

I have trouble transferring audiobooks from Overdrive Media Console.  Sometimes the book does not transfer.  Sometimes it winds up in music.

  • HT4623 transferring audiobook from desktop to iphone using overdrive media, says I need itunes update but I cant see that I do

having trouble transferring audiobook from Overdrive Media on desktop to iphone.  Popup says I need Itunes 11.1 or higher.  I have updated the desktop and the phone (I thought) updated regularly.  No need for updates showing.

If you go into iTunes and click on Help, what version number does it say you have? This message does not have anything to do with updating iTunes on the phone. iTunes on the phone serves a different function that that of the iTunes on your computer. It is referring to updating iTunes on the computer.

  • Transferred audiobook to iPod Nano, but cannot locate it

I've transferred many audiobooks to my iPod nano over the years.  I just transferred an audiobook (twice) to my iPod nano, but I cannot locate it anywhere.  It is not under Audiobooks nor under Music, which is where I can usually find them.  I know that it transferred to my nano, because I saw the available space decrease each time I tried to transfer it.  I have a 4th/5th generation iPod nano.

  • Transferring audiobooks to iPod Nano

I recently bought an iPod nano 7th generation device and successfully synced it with iTunes.  I then transferred an audiobook to the nano using OverDrive media, which I've done many times with an iPod Classic.  Although the transfer appears to work, the audiobook is not appearing on the nano.
Is there a step I'm missing with the nano?

Here is an Apple fact sheet on managing playlists on your iPod. You may find it helpful in only copying selected playlists to your iPod when you synch with your computer.

  • I'm having problems transfering audiobooks to my iPod touch 5th Gen with the latest software upgrade.  It combines 2 books under the same title giving me multiple chapters within the single title.

When I transfer audiobooks to my touch, I sometimes get a new book transferred that shows up correctly in iTunes but when I open music on the iPod, I have a single book title with both volumes under it.  I end up with 2 Chapters 1, 2 Chapters 2, etc.  Anyone else have this problem?

Well, I decided to try working at it from the Windows side because I was getting absolutely nowhere using iTunes in OS X. Strangely enough it just worked like it's supposed to this time when I loaded up iTunes in Vista. (I tried before in Vista, with the same problem occurring).
No idea why it worked... I hadn't even authorized iTunes in Vista to play tracks registered to my iTMS account.
If anyone can offer any help from the Mac side, it would be much appreciated. I only have a few specific reasons for using Vista... would prefer if I could avoid restarting into it just to change a few things on my iPod.

  • Transferring Audiobooks from CD

    Hello all,
I'm attempting to transfer "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" from cd to iTunes. I know how to do it but it seems like when I sync the files to my ipod it comes out sounding distorted (almost like a computer generated voice that echoes slightly). However it sounds fine on iTunes. I have also attempted to change the "import settings" numerous times. Right now it's on:
    Import Using: AAC Encoder
    Settings: Custom
    Stereo Bit Rate: 64 kbps
    Sample Rate: Auto
    Channels: Auto
    Optimize for voice checked
What is the best settings to import the audiobook and get a clear sounding voice?

  • Transferring audiobook from Macbook Pro to iMac

I bought an audiobook today on my Macbook Pro, forgetting that my iPhone is syncing with my iMac.  In the past I have been able to use home sharing to move songs and books from one to the other.  I can't do that today.  Anyone know why?  I am suspecting that audiobooks have been forgotten with the addition of iBooks.  They don't fall under the books or songs categories???  Is that it?

  • Trouble transferring audiobooks to iPod

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I downloaded 2 audiobooks (Spanish lessons) to my laptop hard drive from a shareware website (like napster). They are both mp3 zip files each about 196 mbs. I tried clicking and dragging the files into library and iPod (with iTunes open) but no dice. I also tried converting to mp4 using Videora but didn't work. What is going on? Could you please help. Thanks!

You say mp3 zip files. Question, did you unzip them first prior to placing in iTunes. Next thing you will probably find is that they won't be AAC files. for Audiobooks to appear in the "AUDIOBOOK" folder, they must be AAC files. If they are not they will appear in the Library song list. That isn't a big deal however, it will still play as a Audiobook. You should also highlight the book file and GET INFO then go to Options and select "Remember Playback". By doing this you can play the audiobook then stop for awhile and when you come back to it, it will start playing right where you left off. If you don't select Remember Playback, when you come back to the audiobook it will start from the beginning.

Okay.  I puchased an audiobook.  It will not transfer to my ipod classic.  When I connect my ipod the message tells me that my device is up to date.  I tried to deauthorize and reauthorize my computer.  Still won't transfer.  The sync command scares me.  If I use that the meeage says that it will erase everything.  Help.

  • Transfering Audiobooks to ipod video

In iTunes, select "Add File to Library". In the Add File dialog, navigate to the location of your audiobook content on your hard drive, select the file you want to add, then click "Open".
This adds the file to your iTunes library, but you may have to edit file details to get audiobooks to show up where you want them in iTunes and on the iPod. After a given audiobook file has been added in iTunes, right-click on it and select "Get Info" from the pop-up menu. On the "Info" tab, enter "Audiobook" for genre, author name for "Artist", whatever title you'd like to appear in iTunes / on your iPod, and whatever other info you'd like. After you sync your iPod, your audiobook files can be easily accessed on the iPod by selecting Music - Genre - Audiobook from the menu. Creating a playlist of audiobooks will also make them easy to find in iTunes.

  • I just installed the latest version of iTunes to my windows 8 computer.  I was downloading audiobooks through overdrive media console just fine until I downloaded this new version. It says it has been transferred but it's not in my iPod. Help!

I just installed the latest version of iTunes on my windows 8 computer.  I was trying to transfer an audiobook I downloaded through overdrive media console to my iPod nano. Overdrive says it was transferred successfully, but it is not in my iPod.  I have had no problems transferring audiobooks until I downloaded this new version.  Help!

I just realized that part of my post got cut off.  There was a message that i could not connect to the Apple store (and my genius stopped running).

  • I have downloaded audiobooks.  Manually synced my iphone, and they appear to be on the device when viewing on itunes.  But the ipod App on the phone is empty..

Hi, I am going crazy with frustration.  THis is the first time I have tried to download podcasts to my (partner's) iphone.
I have downloaded the latest itunes software.
Having gone round and round in circles I'm fairly confused over what happened when.  But I got scared when I tried to Apply settings and kept being told that this would Erase and Sync.  ERASE?   Was also told that I wasn't connecting to the correct library, which baffled me.  How did I end up with 2 libraries?  Isn't Apple supposed to simplify this stuff?  Was told that clicking Apply would mean files not downloaded to the Mac would be deleted.  ***?
I got scared by all these messages and so paid £20 for an app that allows me to transfer files from the iphone to the Mac, because I seemed to be in danger of losing precious photographs.   I actuallly own an Android phone, and all I have to do is connect it to my windows laptop and it behaves like any other storage device, allowing me to copy files back and forth.   But this is not possible with the iphone.  It's a closed device.  Hence the need for software to allow this simple procedure.
Anyway, enough griping.  Sorry I can't be more specific as to how I arrived at this problem.  But the problem IS:
I chose to manually sync files between Mac and iphone.  Selected all the audiobook chapters I wanted to sync.  Pressed sync.  Sync occurred.  According to itunes, the audiobook files are sitting on the iphone.   According to the iphone (looking via ipod App), THE CUPBOARD IS BARE.   No files have been synced from itunes to iphone.
I have found a lot of people have this problem, on other forums.  But there are no definitive answers.  Just confusion and frustration.   I would be SO grateful if someone could give me idiot-proof advice on how to deal with this.  My partner is counting on me to sort this out, as he desperately needs audiobooks on his iphone so he can decompress from work stress and do some exercise!   As the barely technical-literate one, it's down to me to fix this!
Here's hoping.   If none of this makes any sense, please do ask for more detail, and I will happily respond.
    Lisa

You got the new iphone?????   I have same problem.  I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was).  Have you found a solution?????   I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.
