Transferring calendar/contacts to a new computer

My old laptop crashed and I just got a new macbook air.    My most current calendar and address book information is on my iTouch.    Is there anyway to transfer that information to the new macbook?    I'm afraid that if I sync the iTouch that it will erase my contacts and calendar because there is nothing on the computer.....
Help!

Okay, it should work as syncing means "merging" unless you tell iTunes to overwrite the content of the iPhone with whatever is on the Mac.
So, pay attention for these two things:
- Have at least one entry in each Contacts and Calendar on the Mac before syncing.
- With the Touch connected and selected but not sync'ing, yet, go on the Info tab and make sure that under Advanced none of the "Replace..." options are checked.

"The information on the iphone is synched with another user account.  Do you want to sync this iPhone  with the information from this user account instead? This iPhone was synced to an old comp, but never another account.  I've had problems all day with the icloud, so I've turned that off for calendar/contacts/reminders.

    Keep getting invalid serial number?
Is it to do with the fact that it had been previously installed on my old computer?

  • HT204053 I transferred my library to a new computer. Now have a different apple ID and it won't let me play songs from the previouse library and pops up with my old apple ID, which I don't have the password? Any ideas?

I transferred my library to a new computer. Now we have a different ID and it won't let us play most of our library? It prompts us to use our old apple ID with a different email and lost password? Any ideas how to be able to play our extensive, expensive catalog?

All content that you download from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it, and it can't be transferred to or merged with another account - so you will need to authorise that old account on that computer if you want to use its content.
If you still have access to the email accoun then you can try getting the password reset via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password
If you don't have access to the email account then you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they can help you get access to the account : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • How do I transfer my contacts to a new computer?

I purchased a new computer and I'm trying to sync it to my new computer but it's telling me that it's going to delete everyting when it syncs.  I already transfered my purchases but it's still saying it's going to delete my contact info.

To transfer Contacts to your new computer, you need to back them up to a flash drive and insert the flash drive in to your new computer. From there, import your Contacts backup file and from within iTunes, check the "Sync Contacts" box.

  • I transferred my library to my new computer (old one completely dead!) and the music transferred but not my audio books.  They aren't appearing in my purchased history.  Can anyone help?

I transferred my library to my new computer (old one dead!) and the music transferred to a new library ok, but not my audiobooks.  My purchased history doesn't show any purchasing in this format.  Can anyone help?

Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store, so you won't be able to redownload them via the Purchased link. Do you have a copy of them on your iPod or on your backup of your downloads/library ? If not, and if they are still in your country's store, then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

Probably not enough memory on your device. Also, if most of the songs on your library are ripped from cds, you will not be able to transfer those from your device to your computer. Try checking the articles below:

  • Can I get my Contacts & Calendar info onto a new Computer?

I just posted something in Kantyka recent posting titled "transfer files from ipod touch to new computer?" as my problem is along similar lines. Yet I thought I should start a new thread to ensure a better chance of getting a response to my questions. So here it goes ...
I just recently purchased my iPod Touch and now my small business PC had crashed. I had my MP3s backed up mostly, but I lost everything in MS Outlook, my Inbox and email folders, including Calendar & Contacts. I have a new PC now and I am thankful that I have the iPod Touch with my Calendar & Contacts information at least. I have decided that I am no longer going to use Outlook. I don't want to risk losing everything again, so I am switching to Gmail and Google Calendar.
But now I am worried about what will happen if I plug my iPod in again and no longer have Outlook etc.. Plus I am plugging it in to a new computer that the iPod has never been connected to or installed on. If I plug it in will my Calendar & Contacts stay intact? Will it reformat? Can I upload the Contacts &/or Calendar from the iPod into Gmail Contacts & Google Calendar? I don't want to loose everything ... I will definitely turn the sync feature off, as suggested in the other post until I get something figured out, but is there a way I can back up the Calendar & Contacts already in the iPod before I attempt to try anything new with Gmail etc.? Any help is appreciated ... I'm not sure what my next steps should be ...
    Thanks,
    Andrea

So I spent a long time reading through the forums and the iPod Manual etc. and here is what I decided to do ...
I installed iTunes & Outlook 2003 on my new system (Vista Ultimate, my old system was XP) and decided to try and just sync it up and guess what? It worked! I was just so worried that switching from XP to Vista would screw it up and I didn't want to lose any more than I already had.
I don't want to continue using Outlook, but I decided to just install the old version just to see if I could get my contacts and calendars back. It worked! Now I plan to export both and upload them to Gmail and Google and only use them going forward. The only real issue for someone else doing this is to make sure that you choose to Merge when plugging in your iPod to the new computer. Otherwise it Replaces everything instead of uploading/syncing. Also keep in mind this is just for Contacts and Calendar, not MP3s ...

  • I have transfered my music to a new computer. I have a iPhone 4S 64g  and I have a lot of music. I believed i have followed all instructions to do this. I have even unistalled itunes and reinstalled. Synching to  new computer not responding well

Can anyone provide more specific info when transferring iTunes to new computer. i have completed all steps including the ones ive seen on the forums since others have had same issue. Uninstall iTunes. Reinstall iTunes. Check synch all music uncheck synch all music...When I try to sync with new computer it transfers music, some go into downloaded songs only, if i connect to old computer its better, and then there is the new cloud! I am regretting changing computers but it was time. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just want my iPhone 4S 64g to synch correctly and completely.

It is probably best to start over. These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • Transferring iTunes from iPod to new computer

I have damaged my Apple PowerBook (containing my 'master' iTunes library) beyond repair and am unable to access any data on the drive.
Having purchased a new MacBook I am attempting to move the library of music and images from my 5th Generation 30gb iPod onto the new computer.
I have followed the instructions given here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Which suggests removing the iTunes folder from the new computer and replacing it with the iTunes folder from the iPod.
But when I open up the iPod icon on my desktop there are only four folders: Calendars/Contacts/Notes/Photos.
    There is no iTunes folder?
    Can anyone help please.

Since you have a Mac you can use a program called Senuti. It transfers all your material from your iPod to your computer. Download Senuti, then in the preferences, set your destination folder to the iTunes music folder. All the content on your iPod will be placed in there and then all you have to do is transfer that to your new iTunes library. Hope it works out.

  • Transfer Entourage emails/contacts to a new computer (from 2004 to 2008)

    Hi
I'm a bit stressed as I just failed to transfer all my old emails/folders/contacts from my old computer using Office 2004 to my new computer with Office 2008 installed.
I transferred the old MUD folder across into the new MUD folder and put the preferrences into the Library/preferences.
Maybe I didn't do something in the right order.
Is there anything I can do to get it all working ok??
    Hope you can help.
    Cheers

  • Computer broke... How to sync contacts/apps to new computer?

So my computer broke and i don't know how to get all my important info onto a new computer. I tried syncing but it said it would replace all the info. What do I do? Thanks.

You enter a unique contact/calendar entry ( meaning a contact that is not in the iphone) into whatever program ( on your computer) you sync your contacts (i.e. outlook, address book, etc).
The iphone is designed to be synced with a compatible program on your computer.
Perhaps you should review the manual:

  • HT201272 Transfering songs from ipod to new computer? its only transfering a few not all

Can anyone tell me why my new computer wont transfer all my ipod songs to the library only a few and then when i try to sync new songs it says it can only do it from one library and wants to erase all the songs from my ipod when i click transfer from ipod to library its only transfering a few selceted songs

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
