Transferring Captured Video to edit in CS5

Hi all.
I am building a new PC for video editing among other uses, and am wondering if it is possible to compile the ways by which captured footage may be transferred to the computer.
This query pertains to the question of whether my new motherboard should have a Firewire 400 PCI added for an external tape (Sony DSR-11), or NOT.
So other than using DV and digitising, which looks horrible on any HD screened/carded computer, i am aware of SD and SDHC, but not sure about the difference in terms of the slots necessary for each; if the slot is added externally or may be built into the the motherboard via PCI? And if external, then via USB 2.0, which i understand is a slower mode of media transfer?
I welcom any info or news on the subject of transferring video from cameras to computers.
thanks
great day:)

Firewire works with DV AVI or HDV from a tape based camera... this is not digitizing, such as I used to do with a Pinnacle Dv500 card and an Analog 8mm sony camera, since the signal on the DV-HDV tape is already digital, and Firewire is simply a glorified serial port that is used to transfer the signal from tape to computer
Any analog source, such as a VCR, needs to be digitized by a conversion device
Video from a non-tape camera, be it hard drive or memory card, is also already digital... and is simply copied from camera to computer
For the AVCHD my camera records, I use Windows Explorer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0

  • Transferring captured video directly to PC/Mac

For the last couple of weeks I've used my phone to film a lot of holiday clips. I'd rather not have to upload each one to mobileme which then gets compressed. Is there any software out there where I can just transfer the video clips straight to a PC or mac.

I was also having problems transferring the larger video files but I found out there's an app called VIDEO SAFE in the Apple App store called VIDEO SAFE. I transferred all my larger videos to that app. Then I plugged in my iPhone 4 ios4.0.1 then I opened iTunes on my pc then opened USB extract in my video safe app under settings Then you click on your iPhone in the left of iTunes, then click on apps tab then down half way of the page it will show you the app that will file share with iTunes. Then click on video safe app. Then select a destination to extract them large video files.
It work flawless for me without suffering a video quality.

  • NO FIREWIRE! MacBook can not capture video for editing...Help!

I bought a New Unibody Macbook last week. Then I realized that my New Video Camera (Canon Vixia HV30) is not compatible with the MacBook as it has no Firewire. So I called apple to discuss returning it for a Macbook Pro. But upon examining the specs for the MacbookPro I discovered that it only has Firewire 800 which is not cross compatible with Firewire 400. So that computer will ot help me either. Apparently the manufactures of video cameras are way behind Apple in its adoption of firewire 800. (note USB2.0 is not designed for video, it is a burst based protocol and not nearly as fast for continuous data streams, like digitizing video)
    Does anyone know of...
    1) A Video Camera that uses Firewire 800
    2) An adapter from 400 to 800?
Any help would be very appreciated.

I have been pretty ticked off about Apple's direction myself as I own an audio and video business which relies heavily on FW400 for my cameras and sound cards. I am fortunate to have the older 17" MacBook Pro with both Firewire's built in, but I was thinking to myself, what would I do if I had to purchase now. This is what I would do:
I would get a MacBook Pro and purchase at $32.00 Fire Wire ExpressCard/34. Gives you 2-Firewire 400's. Heck for $30.00 you get two ports. Not bad at all!

  • Storing captured video footage

I am still learning FCE and MAC environment after years of using Pinnacle software in a Microsoft world.
What is the best way to store your captured video for editing in FCE? I would like to take my 15 years or so of Home movies and store them in files so I can retrieve and edit time. For example, when my Son graduates from high school, I would like to take clips from various files over the past 18 years and create a 20 minute video of him through the years. Having all these files accessable on a hard drive would make the process easy.
Would appreciate any feedback and suggestions.

What is the best way to store your captured video for editing in FCE?
Store them on a hard drive other than the boot drive of your computer. Preferably another internal drive or an external Firewire or eSATA drive. Storing them in their native format (ie; store DV in DV format) will help ensure maintaining the best quality.

  • Re: Noob: Captured video on CS5-now what?

I am using a friend's computer and I was able to capture video from my Sony cam.  I  I used scene detection and when the capture was completed I saved the project. CS5 saved the captured video into many smaller (avi) files.
My "workspace" selection is "editing". I wish to edit (create template titles, splice, add transitions, and chapters) to the captured video. However, I am unable find out how. Adobe help doesnt provide much info which suprises me.
I am just looking for some basic commands/instructions. Nothing fancy. Can anyone steer my in the right direction or provide some basic simple instructions that even an eight year old could follow?

Adobe help doesnt provide much info which suprises me.
You've skipped a step here.  First one should get an education in video production.  Once you have the fundamental education under your belt, then you put that education into practice.
The Help file is for those who already know the basics of video production and editing, and just need some guidance in using this specific program.  It's not intended to be a general education in video editing.

Sorry about that. I thought this was the forum.  I find site is terrribly difficult navigate through, the videos all but useless unless you're an adobe engineer.   Do you have a link for the Creative Suite 5 forum?  Thank you.

  • Anyone know what would cause a cs5 "utilities.cpp-760"  when trying to capture video

    Software: Premiere Pro CS5 v5.0.3
    OS: Win7 Pro 64bit
Trying to batch capture video from a Sony DSR-45 over firewire and it's worked before, but for some reason now it will cause the "Premiere pro debug event' message box with "..src\Utilities.cpp-760".
Any one have any ideas what would cause that or where I could look for a log file or something with a little more info.

  • Editing a title bar in the captured video

Is there a way to hide any section for ex. menu bar or a title bar of the captured video?  I am capturing the video from a simulator which has different version numbers on the title bar. Except for the version number change, their is no change in the GUI of the simulator. Do I need to recapture it all over again or can i override the title bar or get ride of a specific portion of the captured video?

    Hi Lata
In that case, you will likely need to re-record.
Full motion recording is seldom desired and this issue alone is one of the large reasons why!

  • How do I include a website footage on a video production in Premiere CS5?

    Hi All,
I have seen various websites shown on TV and wondered how they did it. Kindly advice me on how to feature a website on a video production using Premiere cs5? Do I need to take a video shot of the website first (panning and tilting) before it is captured and moved to the timeline, or is there a software that I could use for capturing the website before editing it in Premiere?
    Thanks
    Gloria.

I use Camtasia Studio to record computer screen captures.  I created a tutorial for editing Camtasia Studio footage in Premiere Pro:

  • Unable to capture video with MSI StarForce 822 GeForce 3!

I have a MSI StarForce 822 GeForce3 graphics card with 64 MB DDR SDRAM on it. I have VGA Out, as well as TV-out (AV), TV-out (S-video), and TV-in(?) (S-video).
This brings me to two questions:
First, I have NEVER been able to figure out how to use the TV-in (S-video) port. I have tried numerous programs designed to capture video, including the one that came with the graphics card, and none of them recognize the card's TV-in. Do you have any recommendations as to how to use this port to capture video?
Second, in reading through the online manual for the graphics card on the company's website (under the name G3 Pro-VT64D MS-8822), I saw that the card supposedly has the capability of "High-quality HDTV/DVD playback" (8822 v2.0.pdf, page 8 ). However, in playing back DVD's through the card's s-video output onto my HDTV-ready monitor, I definately do not see HD quality videos. Could explain why this is the case?
I have an assignment coming up where I must do some video-editing work, and thus I am posed with a situation where I need to capture video using this card (and I can't afford to buy something new for the moment).
    Thanks for your help.

If you have the Video Capture Driver installed then the video capture program should see it. On MSI site version 1.16 of the driver is available for download.
If you still have problems (e.g. too many frames lost) you can try using Virtual VCR (worked best in my case).

  • Capture Video FCExpressHD 3.0.1-General Error

I have an iMac G5 pre intel with 2.5 gb or Ram, My camera is a Panasonic DVG60 it has been capturing video fine until today ( 30 hrs) It is now giving me a GENERAL ERROR when I try to capture video. I can capture files in iMovieHD OK, and import them to FCE, but I need the timecodes to edit as when I shot I recorded specific timecodes and it is 1 1/2 hrs worth of video to edit. I have reinstalled FCE 3.0.1 and still no correction. I also tried to as a suggestion on this group said take out the receipts to QT 7. and I did still no go.

  • Error message: "Attempt to capture video without a video device selected."

When trying to log and capture, I'm receiving the following error message: "Attempt to capture video without a video device selected. Please select a video device in your capture presents and try again."
In Capture Presents under DV NTSC 48 kHz it says "WARNING: Video Device DV Video is missing."
An attempt to edit the Capture Preset gives me QuickTime Video Setting Digitzer options of only "[missing] DV Video."
This happened only after I upgraded to Tiger. I know Log and Capture is recognizing the camera because it's showing the timecodes, but not the image. Any help would be most appreciated.

This reminds me of a problem with the QuickTime install. Try this - remove all the QuickTime associated .pkg files from /Library/Receipts, then go to http://www.quicktime.com and download the full installer and do a complete install.

  • Capturing video from multiple devices simultaneously using QTKit

I have three cameras in my iMac,one is iSight(FaceTime HD Camera (Built-in),the other two are  USB Camera。And my System version is Mac OS X 10.7.3 (11D2001),SDKs:Mac OS X 10.7 (11E52)

  • I have an issue with my iPod touch gen. 5 connecting to my iTunes. iTunes says my device has an error, but it does not specify the error and I can't do nothing. I was transferring more music and editing my playlists. My songs and movies are gone.

What can I do to solve an issue with my iPod touch gen. 5 32 gb on connecting to iTunes on my computer? iTunes says there is an error with my iPod touch, which this was a result of deleting my songs and videos. I was only transferring more songs, videos and editing my playlists. I don't have that much of the songs left. What is the best solution?

And what is the wording of the error message?

  • Do I really need to overclock a i7 2600(k) for HD editing in CS5?

    Dear All
After reading a lot in this forum (thanks to everyone!), I pretty much decided to buy the i7 2600k or i7 2600 (I know the difference) for the system I´m putting together.
I´ll have a student´s edition of CS5 and will be using Premiere and AE and have one huge doubt left:
Do I really, really need "Overclocking" for HD video editing?
A few background infos so you know who "I" refers to:
I´ll be doing small projects for my own private amusement, most of them likely to be less then 20 minutes long, but effects/filters/layers will definitely be involved.
I´ll buy a Nvidia 550 for cuda, the three "obligatory" harddrives, 16 GB of RAM...
Think of fiction short movies, music videos etc. and you get the idea.
I am not a hardware enthousiast or a very impatient person - if a final rendering/conversion into another format takes 8 minutes instead of 6, for instance, I do not care.
What I DO care about is smooth editing and previews when working with HD formats (yes, also the "difficult" ones). I don´t want to be on the top of any benchmarks, but
the performance with HD still should be "good"...
I have no previous experience with OC, but I understand it´s quite easy with this last generation of processor and motherboards.
Yes, I am tempted to get more "Bang for the buck", but I am also reluctand to spend more money and time if I don´t really need it, or if the difference will be so minimal I won´t notice it.
As I understand it, for OC I´ll need to get a better case with fans, a better cooler, better power supply, better who-knows-what... all decisions I need to take now...
    I also wonder:
    - Is it still true that my processor/system will have a shorter life spam with OC?
    - In case I don´t overclock, can I go with the factory cooler of the i7 2600 or is it still wise to get a better one?
    - Any suggestion which Z68 motherboard to buy with and without OC? (should be around 100-150 Euros)
Please allow me this additional question in order not to open another threat just for it:
    - I want to get  Kingston DDR3 4GB/1333 RAM simply because it´s cheap - is that okay with the i7-2600 or should I go for 1600 instead?
Thank you so much in advance for any kind of suggestion, I hope your answers will be useful for more users out there.
    Andy

Thank you, Harm. Does everyone agree? I´d be happy to save the money for all those fans...
The time issue is really relative. My last editing adventures laying about a decade back when one could go for a coffee when applying a filter to a couple of minutes in PAL
and even a brightness filter applied to a short shot would have me staring for endless seconds at the screen. I hope these days are gone, EVEN with HD?
I´m just trying to imagine how and when OC would affect things while using cs5, or if it would affect the "smootheness" of the editing process at all.
As said, a conversion into another format or a final rendering that takes many minutes anyways is not a problem for me.
But say I want to apply a filter to a couple of seconds, or render an AE effect, would I have to "wait" at all for previews with the modern i7 system I want to build?
