Transferring Clips saved in IDVD 08 to IDVD 06

I have a large number of video clips that I imported from my camera using IDVD 08, after which for sound editting reason I would like to edit in IDVD 06. Is there a simple and efficient way of importing all of the clips into IDVD 06?

Hello, MarkDean,
Welcome to the discussions.
Are you sure that what you wrote is what you meant?
iDVD is not an importing application, nor is it used for editing. Are you meaning iMovie 08 and iMovie 6? If so, you should be posting in the iMovie 08 or iMovie 6 discussions.
What format is your video footage from your camera? Are you referring to a camcorder or a still camera that shoots video clips?
If you meant iMovie, you can export the clips as quicktime and import that into a new iMovie HD6 project.
Please post back if I am not answering what it is you are trying to do.

  • 16:9 QT clips imported into iDVD '08 display as 4:3

I have created 16:9 QT clips using FCE. When I use QT to play the clips, they look fine. When I choose "Show Movie Properties" in QT the visual settings tab confirms a display size of 853 x 480. I created a new project in iDVD and selected 16:9 as the project aspect ratio. The problem is that when I import my 16:9 clips into iDVD, the clips display within iDVD as distorted 4:3 video. It appears to be stretched down to fit within the "Standard Crop Area," leaving black bars on each side, left and right, rather than present the video in 16:9. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, paul

Hi Paul - I've exactly the same situation here. I've exported my movie out from Final Cut Express using the Apple Intermediate Codec and the PAL 16:9 720x576 option creating a Quicktime file. After burning the DVD with iDVD 08 Version 7.0.1 the main menue shows up in 16:9 but my movie in 4:3 with small black stripes on the left and the right side of the picture. Any ideas?

  • Cannot open project saved with iDVD 4

I have an old project that was saved using iDVD 4, before I upgraded. I wanted to add some new content to the project but when I try to open it using iDVD 5, it appears as a totally blank project. I can open the package and see that all the resources (445 Mb worth) are there, so why don't they show up?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Actually it appears that the project became corrupted somehow. I was able to run iDVD4 by booting from a different drive but still could not open the project. However I could open my last backup in both iDVD4 and iDVD5. Unfortunately, I'd been less than diligent about backing up, so it was considerably out of date and I decided to start over. That's not such a bad thing though, given that iDVD5 seems to have worked out many of the "wrinkles" in older versions and I'm also much more familiar with iDVD now so I think I'll end up with a much more professional looking "product".
    Thanks for the advice!

  • Maintain data rate when transferring clips from XF 305 to FCP 7

    Hello
I wonder if someone out there can help.
    I have footage shot on a Canon XF305 - 1920x1080p, 50i, 50Mbps which I want to edit in Final Cut Pro 7.0.3.
I have installed the Canon XF plug-in and have used Log and Transfer to ingest one short clip as Apple Pro Res 4:2:2 HQ and one clip as Native.
However when I look at Properties of the transferred clips the Data Rate of Pro Res clip is 22Mbps, and of the native clip only 6 mbps. Is this significant or relevent? As the programme is for HD delivery I need to ensure I maintain the 50mbps data rate.
If it isn’t relevent is it better to ingest Native or Pro Res?
I’d be most grateful for enlightenment! :-)

    Hi Deborah,
Don't get confused by Mb/sec (megabits) and MB/sec (megabytes) there are 8 bits in a byte, you can do the maths from there.

  • How do I  "mask" or blurr out sections of movie clips saved in windows media format in After Effects

I was informed that I needed to use After Effects to "mask" or blurr out sections of movie clips saved in windows media format.
I have the movie clip in composition, I see the effects and presets drop box on the lower right.
How do I insert the text blocks to mask certain areas of the movie clip?
    Thank you,

  • Log & transferred clip panned to Right

I'm a newbie - I've done some basic editing using logged and transferred clips from a borrowed camera. All's been ok. I've been guided by Tom's excellent book.
Just bought a Panasonic HDC-TM700 and am going through the same process but I'm mystified: the audio from the clips is panned hard Right. The problem seems to be in the digital flow into and out of FCE somewhere as playing the camera straight into my stereo from the AV multi is fine. Listening through the camera headphone socket on playback is also fine.
I've done nothing much with audio so far - I note that the "stereo" tabbed window in FCE shows (I presume) the L&R audio streams and one's amplitude is much greater than the other. I've fiddled with the little pan slider (starts at -1) and it seems just to centralise stuff (have to read more on this).
I thought I might have changed a default somewhere so re-installed FCE to be sure. No change.
    I'd appreciate any suggestions!

In addition to the pan settings, the gain default gain for all clips captured or imported into FCE or FCP is 0. 0 means that no gain has been applied either negative or positive. But the default gain setting of 0 has nothing to do with the output volume. If the audio was recorded low or if the audio was recorded hot, the default gain setting will be 0 for both even though they have different output levels (volume).
If the clip is a stereo pair and one channel was recorded markedly louder than the other, it would be best to convert the stereo pair to two mono tracks so you can easily adjust one channels gain independent of the other.
To convert a Stereo Pair in the Timeline, highlight the clip(s) and hit Option l (lowercase L).

  • Why are the same three IM clips distorting in IDVD but look fine in QT

I posted this on the IDVD forum but was told to try here.
I burn my IMovie 08 onto IDVD 09 with chapters with professional quality encoding. It is about 117 minutes long & I have 30g on my HD. For some reason, in various spots the picture starts disintegrating like the censor blocking body parts on TV only at various spots of a picture and various points of the movie. There is nothing on imovie that shows a problem.
I then cut the time to 114 min & made a disc image of the three clips of 25 that were constantly distorting with little improvement, if any. So I downloaded new copies of those clips and added them to the project, deleting the old ones. Then I ran a new theme with less movement, fewer pictures. Nothing different. Same clips are distorted and only those. Can anyone help?

  • Files/Clips from old iDVD image files

I am an underwater photographer and I have a number of older projects that I created in FCP/iDVD. I have the iDVD image files, but not the original MOV files, as they were huge and were deleted to save space.
I would like to create a compilation DVD that has all of the old disks combined into one.
Any way to extract the clips from the image files and drop them into a new project. They are already rendered to the the DVD format.
    Thanks in advance, David

Frank's reply is correct but a little lacking in detail!
You will need to re-edit the files in iMovie in order to make it one single project.
You first need to convert the VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • Saving an iDVD movie

I made a movie using iDVD and have burned it successfully to a DVD. Now I want to save it as a movie on my computer but I can't seem to make it happen. I tried saving as a "disk image" but I end up with "audio TS" and "video TS" any ideas?

As far as I know, there is only one way to save or burn movies in iDVD - and, as you found out, you will wind up with the Video TS folder. The only way I'd know is to make your movie in iMovie - you have more options to share or export it as a Quicktime movie file. You might also want to post your question in the appropriate forum (iDVD and/or iMovie) for more knowledgeable suggestions.

  • What does saving an iDVD project do?

After I create an iDVD project and burn a DVD, I save the project, and it is usually about a 4Gb project taking up lots of hard drive space.
I have tried to use this file to burn another DVD copy, but I find it does not work. If I click burn, it starts the whole encoding cycle again.
Also, I recently need to change the photo quicktime file in a burned DVD, so I opened up the saved project, deleted the photo slides show, imported the new slideshow and burned again (there was a 50 min movie on the DVD also). I was hoping it would encode the new photos only, but it re-encoded the whole DVD.
Question - What is the saved DVD pjoject for if you can't use it for these points above?

    Thanks Michael, and Lennart,
I may be a bit thick, but let me try one more set of questions.
    1. If i save a iDVD project it takes up 2-3Gb of disk space, but you can do anything with this file other than reburn it and have it go through the whole encoding process again. Why would anyone save that file?
    2. Is it confirmed that if I haved a saved iDVD project and I make a change or add one asset then all assets have to be re-encoded? or is there a shortcut encoding if I'm working from an already encoded iDVD project.
    3. Is it right that it makes more sense to choose not to save rendered files in preferences, since you can't do anything with them and they take up lots of space (sorry this is sort of the same as Q1)?
    Thanks again,
    Tony

  • IPhoto show transfered and burned with iDVD will not play

Using iLife 6 - I have 425 photos in iPhoto edited and set to run 3 seconds with dissolves. Transfered to iDVD and created menue and sound from iTunes. The show appears to run fine in preview. However, when I burn the disk it will not run on a DVD player. It runs for a while and then studders or stops. Will sometimes start back up and then stop again. I have tried the following:
Have reduced all of the photos from origonal 4 to 5 MB down to 200 - 400 KB
Have tried 3 different types of master media.
Have tried 4 different DVD players. It plays best on my expensive Pioneer PRV
9200 but still has some small problems and studdering.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Is there any way to change the burn speed and settings in iDVD?
If you create a disk image, you can use Toast to burn and control speed to 4X or slower.
    File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Problem with clip playback in iDVD

I created a project in iMovie from a single imported video. I cut it into clips, added chapter markers then used share to iDVD to export the project into iDVD. Once in iDVD I set up separate sub menus and organized them.
Now when I play back the finished DVD, the clips run together. If I choose a clip it plays (starting from the correct point as noted by the marker), but then continues right into the next one without returning to the sub menu. This is the same for any clip I play.
Is there a way to treat the clips as individual movies, so once the clip is finished playing you are returned to the menu you chose that clip from?? I cut all the clips up in iMove, so I don't understand why it's treating them as a whole.
    iMove 6.0.2
    iDVD 6.0.2
    TIA!

    - I cut all the clips up in iMove
"It would appear you only inserted chapter marks."
What I mean by "cut up the clips" is I used those little "bracket tabs" below the play head to choose the section I wanted. Then I cut and pasted that clip to the time line creating an individual clip. I pasted several clips from a single imported movie off my DV cam. When I inserted the chapter marks, I would choose a clip on the time line and then create a marker. It appears that iMovie does not recognize those clips as individual since I cut them from the same imported movie.
The only other way to make them separate is to cut all the clips from my imported movie with Quicktime, then import them separately. Of course I was trying to do it all in iMovie because it's much faster.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Photos Lost resolution when transferred to DVD using iDVD

I am new to the iMac and I created a slideshow with pictures imported to iPhoto. When you see the slideshow in the DVD, the photos look awful. Very low resolution. Is there any setting that can help me to improve photo resolution when I create a slideshow in a DVD?

I was reading through a couple of threads here and some I found on other sites through google where people were having the same issues as you describe. Try googling to see what others say. One that I found and would try myself would be to scale DOWN the images. Someone reported by scaling down the images for inclusion into iDVD helped with the quality. I don't know if they used iPhoto's crop tool with the 4x3 (DVD) setting, or if they exported the images using the Export command and scaling down copies of the images from the dialog screen (and then, I guess reimporting sized down images into iPhoto.?!). It's worth a try I guess.
btw...here's one of the threads I was talking about:

  • Help!  All Songs Transferred From iPhoto to iDVD Did Not Come Accross!  Why

My slideshow (240 photos) with a playlist (five songs) all looked great in iPhoto. I sent the slideshow via the 'Send to iDVD' pull down menu to build the theme/DVD before burning. Why I preview the slideshow before burning, I only hear the first (of five) songs. All the photos are right (with Ken Burns, etc...) but I only hear the first song. Ugh! Please help!
    Thanks!
iMac G4 Flat Panel   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi rocketman:
There is a bug that causes that to happen...
    (Thanks to John Kellar):
One workaround is to make a slideshow soundtrack by making a single long track of music from purchased or regular music:
    1) Burn your desired playlist to CD in iTunes.
    2) Make sure you have itunes Preferences set to "just open the CD and not automatically play or import the songs."
    3) Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
    4) Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
    5) Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
    6) When done, make a new playlist named after the slideshow.
    7) Put the new combined track into the playlist.
    8) In iPhoto, select this playlist for your slideshow.
You can also Share/Export the slideshow to Full Quality DV; import the resulting Quicktime movie into iMovie and add the music there (or do the whole slideshow in iMovie). If you have Quicktime Pro, you can Share/Export the slideshow (like above), but then open the resulting Quicktime movie in QTPro, and copy/paste your music from within Quicktime.

  • Trouble with timing/quality when transferring from iMovie to iDVD

When I transfer an iMovie to iDVD, either the timing to the music is off or the timing works but a few slides have moments of a blank white screen before they appear. The movie plays fine on iMovie. I've tried re-importing the photos/slides, but that hasn't helped. I also tried changing the order of the slides, and the glitch appeared at the same time (not with the same photos). It may be a space issue, but I'm not sure how to get back so much space on my hard disk. I'm wondering if I should try burning to a dvd to see if the white space or timing issues remain. Any suggestions? Thanks!

How much free space is there on Your Start-Up (Mac OS - Main) hard disk ?
I never go under 25Gb free space.
To free up space - You either
    • Delete things/documents You KNOW is of no more importance to You (or for Your Mac) - by moving to trash basket down right end of Dock - Then go up to Menu row Apple --> Finder and down this to "Empty Trash"
