Transferring contacts from palm desktop to itouch

I would like to transfer my contacts from my palm desktop to my itouch. Any suggestions? Thanks

Copy the contacts to am ipod touch compatible program (i.e. address book, outlook) then sync the ipod touch to that program via itunes ( the info tab).
I did this. I think I found directions on the Palm site. You could also Google it.

  • Move contacts from Palm Desktop to Cell??

I've got a non-responsive Centro which I've taken to Verizon for trouble-shooting. In the meantime, I plan to use an old LG for a couple of days. Does anyone know how to move contacts from Palm Desktop to the LG?

Unfortunately since it's two different operating systems you will not be able to transfer your contacts to your Lg device. However, it might be possible to do an address book transfer in the store from your Palm to your Lg.

  • Editing contacts in gmail after export/import from Palm Desktop is a messy affair

So far, from what I can see, my contacts are synchronizing well between the Pre and my gmail contacts list.  Being easily amused, I guess it's pretty slick the way it works.  But exporting them from Palm Desktop and importing them into the gmail contacts list was just a jumbled mess.  Almost none of the actual fields from PD mapped correctly to the gmail fields, so all of my info got lumped into the "notes" field in gmail.
It's easier and faster to edit them in gmail than on the Pre, so that's what I've been doing...fixing about 300 contacts one at a time.  You can cut/copy/paste the info from the notes field into the correct data field.  But there's one really weird thing that happens if you try to drag-and-drop info, say a telephone number or an address, from the notes field into its own field above.  The data appears to move over.  But once you save the change, anything you dragged into its own field disappears.  Trying to go through the list quickly, I didn't notice this strangeness until I had gone through a large enough number of my contacts to really make me swear.

    smkranz,
I had a similar mess to clean up.  I figured that Google's contacts would work better with an import from Outlook and a direct export from Palm Desktop 4.x or 6.x.  I used Chapura's Pocket Copy to push my Palm Desktop 4.2 data into Outlook, and then exported my data from Outlook and into Google contacts.  I followed Google's directions for that part.  I still had to review my 400 or so contacts and do some mop up, but it wasn't a total train wreck.
Glad to hear that you did get a Pre.  Welcome to the club.  Now we have to work on WyreNut.

  • Can I Use DTA to Transfer Straight From Palm Desktop to Google Calendar

I have a Palm Tungsten E2, and a Palm Desktop account for it, but I also have another Desktop account, which I want to keep separate and copy into Google Calendar.
I got the Data Transfer Assistant (DTA), and went through the first few steps towards transferring the data - even selecting the right account - but now it's saying that I need to connect my handheld, and sinse I  don't have a handheld for that account, it looks like I'm stuck.
I tried connecting my Tungsten E2, but it did not recognize that and left the "Next" button pale.
I imagine I might be able to get this done if I erase everything from my Palm, HotSync the other account into it, and then do the DTA, but I'm not quite sure how to do that nor am I sure that when I erase the secondary account and sync the primary one back in I will have everything that I currently have - all the data, all the applications.
Is that the best way to go, and if so, what safety measures should I take?
If not, what is the best way to transfer data straight from Palm Desktop (version 6.2.2) to another calendar - preferably Google, but Outlook would be okay.
One thing that I know would work would be to convert the DBA file into a CSV file, but I don't know how to do that.
Any answers to any of the subquestions?

What king of files? If they are iWork files then sure. However if they are third party files such as Excel spreadsheets or MS Word documents etc.. then I'd recommend using Dropbox.

  • How do I transfer my data from Palm desktop to iPhone?

How do I transfer my data from Palm desktop to iPhone? I just gave up my Treo 755p in favor of an iPhone. How do I transfer my Treo data (contacts, calendars)

I believe that when you boot your computer for the first time and you are following the onscreen instructions you are prompted whether you want to transfer data from an old mac or PC. If you click 'transfer from an old mac' and follow the onscreen instructions, this may work.
If you have already skipped this step you could use iCloud to transfer data. If you make sure that everything you want to transfer is synced in iCloud, this may also work.

  • How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?

    Hello,
How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
I have a Palm Tungsten E handheld which just died.
Luckily, all my data is backed-up on my Palm Desktop V4.2.1.
I just bought an iPod-Touch, so I would like to easily transfer
all my data (Addressbook, Calendar, etc) from the Palm Desktop
on my Mac (OSX 10.5) to the equivalent Mac applications
(Address Book, iCal) which will then allow me to view and update
    them on my iPod-Touch.
How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    David

Hi David. The contact information is straightforward. Bring up your Address List in Palm Desktop, then select Export under file. You pick vCard as the format, and save the resulting file where ever. In Address Book, you then select Import --> vCards under file. You may need to edit things like birthdays by hand afterwards.
I am still working on the Calendar information.

  • Maximum contacts in palm desktop 6

I'm trying to import my contacts into Palm desktop...  I have about 650 contacts - what's the max I can import?  Can I split up the file and import smaller chunks at once?

    Hello jamstyle,
You will want to export the data out of your Yahoo and Comcast accounts into a coma separated file (.csv file) and the import thoes data files into Palm Desktop.  From there, you can sync the data to your Palm.  If you haven't already done so, I would configure your Palm to HotSync with your computer first.

  • Migrate from Palm Desktop/OS 10.4 to OS 10.6 & new iPod Touch?

I'm very dependent on Palm Desktop 4.2.2 to keep my life organized. My old Palm died long ago, but I like Palm Desktop more than any other alternatives I've seen. I've ordered a new iPod Touch. I'm pretty sure that, to use it with my iBook (running OS 10.4.11) that I'll need to upgrade to Leopard or Snow Leopard if I want to share info with the Touch.
Moreover, I think I'll need to sever any ties to my beloved Palm Desktop: I don't think it's compatible with OS 10.6. I've explored similar posts, but haven't found an answer I could use or understand. So if someone knows of an online description of migrating from Palm Desktop to either the equivalent Apple products or to Google, I'd appreciate the URL.
The main feature I like in Palm Desktop is the ability to create links between all the modules. For example, I can set an appointment with a doctor, then attach the doctor's contact information and attach a memo that has a list of questions and directions to the new office. My existing database is cross-linked between all these types of info.
Is there any way I can retain these cross links when I migrate? Do any of the Apple PIM programs let you create these kinds of cross references with new information? Does Google or some other software let you do this better?
From what I've read, it sounds like getting the information exported into a format that can be imported to a new program isn't easy. BTW, I'll also be migrating from Eudora to either Mail, Thunderbird mail, or some third party equivalent. I won't use any flavor of Outlook. Is there something about MobileMe that would make this migration easier?
Can you tell that I'm operating on the very fringe of what I'm technically able to understand? I've stuck with Palm Desktop for 8 years. I'd appreciate any guidance anyone could provide -- in an easy, step-by-step way. Forgive me if this information exists elsewhere. Directions to that info also would be appreciated.
Quickly exceeding my technological Comfort Zone,
    Marganne

The Palm Desktop works fine with 10.6.6 (and even Hotsyncs to Palm, though I gather this is irrelevant to you). However it is dependent on Rosetta, so (avoiding speculation to conform with the terms of this Forum) were Rosetta to be removed in a future system upgrade the Palm Desktop would be inoperable.
You're not going to be able to salvage the contents and use them in a linked fashion in the same way. It's possible to salvage the contents, though it's going to entail some work.
MEMOS - Evernote (basic version free) is a good replacement and extremely flexible: its contents can be synced to an iPhone or iPod Touch. The contents of the Palm Memos can be imported into Evernote using the Palm Desktop Memos Importer for Evernote (free)
CALENDARS - Palm Desktop menu File>Export and export Date Book as vCal. In iCal File>Import and import the vCal file into iCal - it will appear as an 'On My Mac' calendar. Use File>Export>Export to export this as an .ics file. Create a new calendar under your MobileMe login name (I'm assuming you've upgraded to the new MobileMe calendar) and import the .ics file into this. Delete the previously imported calendar. (If you don't want to use MobileMe just leave the imported calendar where it is.)
You can't separate the Palm categories and you will need to go through it making any necessary adjustments.
It's worth considering BusyCal, which is like  'Pro' version of iCal with much better handling of ToDos and many extra facilities. On an iPod Touch it's well worth considering Week Cal which, though I've not tried it, appears to be a much better calendar than the rather basic built-in one.
TASKS - you will have to enter these manually, one at a time - it doesn't appear to be possible to import them into iCal. iCal won't handle repeating ToDos - BusyCal will. They also make BusyToDo for iOS which reads the ToDos from the MobileMe calendar and handles them separately and much better.
ADDRESSES - you can export these as a vCard - select all first - and import that into Address Book (watch out for duplicates if you are already using Address Book).
It's not clear if you have MobileMe: if you don't want to sync between computers or iPhone/iPod Touch you don't need it, but if you do it's the best way - Google and Yahoo have issues. However you should be able to sync to an iPod Touch using iTunes, though as I don't have this device I don't know whether there are any downsides.

  • Upload from Palm Desktop 4.1 to Palm Centro

My old Palm Pilot M515 broke some two years ago. I am maintaining the Contacts ("Address" on Palm Desktop under Widows XP Pro) on Palm Desktop version 4.1 and extensively using the "Note" tab to enter free form information.
    a. Can I upload the Addresses from Palm Desktop 4.1 to Palm Centro which I am considering to purchase?
    b. Will the free form information from "Note" upload fully to Palm Centro and where to?
    Thanks.
    Post relates to: Palm m515

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
Your existing data including the notes from your existing contacts database should migrate without difficulty to the new Palm Desktop which ships with the Centro.  When you install the new version, it recognizes the existing installation and will automatically migrate the data.
On the device itself, if there is a Note attached to a particular contact, the contents of the Note actually display as part of the contact, at the end of the listing.  You can add or delete a note for a contact directly on the device as well.

  • Migrating from palm desktop 4.2 for windows to ical

    Hi,
I am attempting to migrate my calendar and task information from my palm desktop 4.2 software on a windows xp machine to my brand-spankin' new iMac. The calendar file export type doesn't import into ical. I'm not even sure which application the task(to-do list) and memo(notes) data from palm desktop would be most appropriate to import into on the iMac, but I would like to migrate that data, too.
I did successfully migrate my contacts info from Palm Desktop into the Address Book on my IMac. Hooray!
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks.

Exporting Palm Calendar (Date Book): you should have in the Export dialog box the option of changing the export format from "Palm Desktop" to "vCal".
vCal (.vcs) files will import into iCal. You can also bring them into Entourage (not through the Import dialog box, but by dragging the .vcs file onto the Entourage icon in the dock).
You will almost certainly lose category information, if you were using any.
Exporting Palm Addresses: choose the vCard format, which Apple's Address Book will recognise (ditto Entourage if you take that option). But I see you've succeeded with that part.
Exporting Tasks: this gets tricky as Apple doesn't have a stand alone tasks or to do app and the to do function in iCal is a bit underwhelming. You'll be able to export Palm Tasks in "Tab & Return" format, which means you could open them in a word processing or spreadsheet program. I doubt you'd be able to get them into iCal with any ease. You may have better luck importing tasks into Entourage, which does have a proper Tasks function, but that's not something I've tried to do.
Exporting Notes/Memo: as with Tasks, your option is using the "Tab & Return" format. You may need a 3rd-party notes program if you don't want to use Entourage Notes.

  • Migrating custom fields from Palm Desktop to Address Book

I have a 6200 contact database with 10 custom fields that I want to migrate from palm desktop to address book. I was hoping it was a simple matter of exporting the palm desktop database as a vCard, double clicking on the vCard icon on the desktop, and clicking yes to the question "do you want to import...to Address Book." But that imports the database without creating the custom fields, and instead puts all the info stored in the custom fields in the comment section for each database entry. Is there an automator action or a Apple Script (or any other way) of automatically creating these custom fields in Address Book?

I have been able to translate most of the fields from Palm Desktop over to Address Book, but the 1 field left is "Division."  Address Book allows for "Company" and "Department," but not the "Division" field that is one of the default fields in Palm Desktop.
Address Book doesn't seem to be able to add a custom field to the top section of the Addess Book Templet.  Is there a way of creating a custom field for "Division" that would appear at the top of the templet, just under the  "Company" field?
    Thanks.

  • Unable to transfer contacts on palm desktop (windows) to ipod nano

My friend has a PC with all her contacts within Palm desktop. She now wants to transfer the contacts into her iPod nano. I am lost! It is my understanding that a vcard needs to be created, but I am unsure how to do this on the PC. Can anyone assist?

  • How to export Date book and Address book from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book?

I have my calendar information and addresses stored in Palm Desktop date book and address book, respectively. I am running Palm Desktop 4.2.1. Everytime I try to export the date book or address book to my desktop using the vCal format, the Palm desktop crashes. My goal is to export all my data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book on the Apple OS (10.6.1). Does anyone have any advice as to how I can do this or do I just have to start from scratch and manually enter the data from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book? I looked at the Missing Sync software, but I don't think this will do the trick. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store didn't offer any solutions either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello tay8000m and welcome to the Palm forums.
Have you tried running the "Repair Disk Permissions" command in Apple's Disk Utility application yet?  Launch Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" from the left side of the window, and then click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
After the utility has run, try launching Palm Desktop again and then exporting your data as vCard or iCal files.  If the exports aren't working for you, you can always export the data as comma separated values (.csv) file and then import that into the Apple apps you want to use.
