Transferring control of website to new user?

Hello.
Okay, this one's a biggy.
I need to completely transfer a website over to a new user/web designer so that they can continue to amend and update the site without my input.
It's being hosted on Business Catalyst which is fine, as I believe I can just invite a new admin user and delete myself from it. But what's the easiest way to make sure they have all the files and pictures they need to continue amending the site from their side?
Also, if the site uses non web-safe fonts from my computer, will they be able to amended text on the site from a computer without this font installed?
Lastly, I'm not sure they have a Mac. Can they still amend the site using muse on a PC?
Thanks alot!
David

Hi David,
Couple of things to consider. Will the new designer be using Muse as well or taking it over to add functionality, etc in a different program such as Dreamweaver?
If they are using Muse, just adding them as an admin won't be enough. You will need to send them the .muse file as well. You may need to send them some original images if any that were not actually part of the site.
Another thing is  that if the other designer has multiple sites on Business Catalyst it is likely that they are using their partner portal. In this case it would be easiest to send them the Muse file to upload to their account and once that is done and working delete the site from your account. Then the other developer can add the domain name back and since it was already on BC servers the domain name would not have to propogate or no settings would have to be changed. If it was me taking over the site that is the way I would suggest. You could also contact BC support to transfer it to the new designers account as well but seeing as how you have to send the new designer the .muse file anyway the way I mention is a lot faster.
Being on a PC or Mac doesn't make a difference.
Hope that answers some of your questions.

  • Transferring apple care to a new user

    Hi,
I sold a MacBook Pro with over 2 years of Apple care - but looking through the support pages I cannot find a simple answer to how to do it. I have the serial no and the policy no - just don't know where to do it ....

You have to transfer AppleCare to the new owner. Read here:

printed materials and these Terms and Conditions; (b) you notify Apple of the transfer

  • New User Account Access

I have created a new user account, and I am trying to put on Parental Controls. An example is that I want the new user to access Excel and Word and NOT MSN. When I "add" these applications under the parental controls it seems the new user id either gets access to all the MS Applications or none. How do I create this type of access? Do I create shared folders, make an alias and all user access to just the folder?

    Hello,
Log into your new user account and then locate this file; com.apple.Dock.plist
It's here: /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the trash and reboot. Log in to the new user account and see if the Dock is there. You can access your applications from the Applications folder, not just the Dock. Double click your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click Applications... voila!

  • Migration assistant created a new user when transferring files from a PC to mac

I just bought a new macbook air and proceeded to transfer my itunes music files from my old PC to my new mac using the migration assistant.  I could not find my music files that I had transferred in itunes on my admin user account but later found them on another user acount that I had not created. I was wondering if there was a way to collapse the two user accounts into one or transfer my music from one account to the other? (I tried using an external hard drive but it would not add my music files to the itunes library). Any ideas??

I agree with the idea of an enhancement request, MA should have some more options if used later, normaly users a curious to log into the fresh system, and transfer data and settings at a later date.
Unfortunately, a "merge" option, where it would add things to an existing user account, isn't realistic.  That would work fairly well for such things as documents, where everything is in separate files (although settings and preferences would get a bit tricky).
But not for things like iCal, AddressBook, or Mail, where there are complex structures.  Trying to merge those in any automated way would be very complex.   Even worse would be 3rd-party apps that Apple can't possibly know how to handle.
One thing that might help would be rewording the "You can transfer information later using Migration Assistant" line at the bottom of the Setup Assistant window:
A number of us have asked for that to be worded differently -- warning that it's much better to do it first, or not to install stuff you're going to need, or something.   All to no avail, of course.
Tell Apple what you think here:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

Unless you transfer the files from Setup Assistant, Migration Assistant creates a new user with the data.
To transfer the files to your first user, you have to log on this new user, and copy all your files to /Users/Shard folder. This is a folder where you can put the files you want to share between two or more users, and all users can read and write in it.
After copying the files, go to your first user, open /Users/Shared folder, and copy the files to your user folders. If you migrated applications, you must know that they are stored in a common folder (/Applications), so you don't have to transfer them. To open /Users/Shared folder, open Go menu (in the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type the folder

  • Transferred library to new user account but not able to download...

I transfered my existing library from the account I was originally using to my own new account following the directions that Apple provides http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1203 however now I'm noticing that I cannot download music, apps, etc. in Itunes in the new user account, but still can when I sign into the old user account.  Both user accounts use the same AppleID in Itunes.  I cannot delete the old user account.  I'm assuming that this probably be solved under systems preferences, but I'm not sure what to do.  Thank you!!
FYI - I have the latest updated Itunes.

Don't transfer just the music media.
The problem I am having is that I cannot download music, apps, files in ITunes when in the new user account.  I am assuming this is because I have always downloaded in the old user account.  I assuming something under the system pref in Itunes will fix this...just not sure how?
    What happens?
How do you know you cannot download anythibng? Any messages/errors?
    Try this...
    Quit iTunes.
Transfer the entire /Music/iTunes folder from old user to /Users/Shared/ folder.
Open a Finder window and go to /Users/Shared/.
Select the ITunes folder, right click > get info.
Sroll to Sharing & Permissions and set Everyone to Read/Write.
Click the Gear icon and click Apply to Enclosed items.
    Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library and select the /Users/Shared/iTunes/ folder.

  • I have recently transferred data from my old PC to my new Mac Book Pro (Mavericks OS). Each transfer creates a new User account (titled 'Owner', 'Owner 1', etc).  I want to merge the files from these transfers into my main user account.  Help?

I have recently transferred data from my old PC to my new Mac Book Pro (Mavericks OS). Each transfer creates a new User account (titled 'Owner', 'Owner 1', etc).  I want to merge / consolidate the files from these newly created User accounts into my main user account.  Is there a tutorial for this process, or any tips?  Anyone?

Four transfers.  After the initial attempt with Migration Assistant failed (after hours and hours of wifi transfer) I did "mini-transfers" of more manageable, smaller bits of files -- my music in one, photos in another, etc.  Since posting my question in this forum, i contacted Apple support, chatted with Angela, and she suggested getting an ethernet-USB adapter for my mac, connecting my external drive with ethernet and transferring files manually -- that is, NOT using the Migration Assistant at all.  She sent me this link to help:  Switch Basics: Migrate your Windows files to your Mac.  I appreciate your response, tho', Csound1!

  • Hi, I hope someone can help.... When I open a new user account, which I want to set parental control on, the screen keeps freezing once the account is open. The wee rainbow circle appears and I can't do anything. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

Hi, I hope someone can help.... When I open a new user account, which I want to set parental control on, the screen keeps freezing once the account is open. The wee rainbow circle appears and I can't do anything. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Report any errors it found for Disk Repair, don't need the ones for Permissions Repair.
Try it again & see if anything changed, but have Activity Monitor open & Show All Processes & sorted on CPU%, also have Console open if we can... maybe not when switching, but we'll see.

  • New user account created when transferring  iTunes

Ive just succeeded in transferring my active iTunes from my XP PC to my Mac Book using Migration Assistant however, it has been placed in a new User Account. I don't really want another User Account and so need to know if there is anyway I can merge the User Accounts so that I can use my main iTunes account in my main User Account?

See especially step 9 of "Use Migration Assistant after your Mac has started up" here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4796
This deals with getting the information into the correct user account.

  • Creating a new user account and transferring files from old account

I am now having more problems than I can handle with my Leopard installation...problems such as applications that refuse quit no matter what ~ even after attempting force quit them and/or attempting to "sudo kill -9 PID", and now that I am having problems with Adobe Lightroom not even being able to remain open on my user account for more than 10 seconds max before it crashes without provocation (yet runs fine on a troubleshooting account I created on the same machine), I would now like to create a new user account on my MacPro Leopard 10.5.6 and transfer my files from the previous (problematic) user account, but I've never done so in the past...
Can someone give me a basic rundown of how to go about doing this as a means of troubleshooting my current sickly user account (and if you could also please let me know which files I should avoid restoring to the newly created user account so that I don't screw that one up as well, I would appreciate it)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

While logged into the troubleshooting account (assuming that it's an admin account—if not create a new one and log into it), backup the bad account's folder, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option (which is stored in /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image), recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Resolving conflicts or identifying corrupt plist files is a laborious process. Good luck.

  • Transferring from old to new user account

My existing user account is corrupted, and will not allow my Mac G5 (non-intel) to boot the desktop items; it only gets past the log in stage. In order to access my files, I created a new user account, and am able to transfer my files across easily enough. However, the problem is of course that I have lost quite a few settings, e.g. iTunes account and music/movie files, Safari bookmarks etc.
If I reinstall Leopard, will this fix the user account?
If not, is there a way to transfer the settings from one account to another? I have tried copying and pasting into the relevant directories, but this does not appear to work with either iTunes or Safari.
I would be most grateful for any advice.
    Thank you.

  • Authorising a new user to own Apple software when transferring a 2012 Mac

This is one is doing my head in!
I own a 2012 MacBook Air. The Apple Software was originally a mixture of iWork DVD and OS original software. Now everything updates automatically and smoothly via the App store update. Let's call this Mac1
I now intend to purchase another Mac (Mac2) and give Mac 1 to my daughter. My daughter has an Apple ID for iTunes but has never purchased Mac software in her own name.
Migrating from Mac 1 to Mac 2 is no problem. My issue is what to do with Mac 1:
    - if I simply create a new account in her name and erase my own data, she'll be able to use the computer but everytime there's a software update, she'll need to enter my own Apple ID. No desirable nor practical
    - if I reset to factory settings, it will revert to Mountain Lion (or was it simple Lion?) which does not contain the iWork suite. Even if I upgrade Mac1 to Mavericks, the iWork suite will not be present and my daughter will have to re-purchase it. This is both impractical and unfair as I have already paid for the software twice (old machine + DVD, AND new machine)
Somebody suggested that I let her sign in in her own name on Mac 2 so that she can apply the software to her Apple ID. I should then restore Mac 2 to factory/Mavericks and then transfer the info from Mac 1 to Mac 2. I would then restore Mac 1 to factory, then upgrade from Lion to Mavericks, then restore the Apps through App store (and then of course reinstall any other apps manually). As you can see, this is highly complicated and would take a day!
Please please tell me there's a better way!

After a very long chat with Apple, there is actually a simple solution. It involves the new user (my daughter) to first sign into the brand new Mac in order to create a purchase 'trace'. This can then be applied to any machine including the old one. The only thing I need to remember is to de-authorise the old machine from iTunes (as well as do similar things on licence restricted software such as Creative Suite). Here's the sequence:
1.) She accepts the iWork suite with her Apple ID on your new Mac
2.) She then signs into the Mac App Store on your old Mac and downloads the suite under Purchases
3.) You sign into the Mac App Store on your new Mac
4.) You download the iWork that is tied to your Apple ID
