Transferring CS4 actions to CS6

We were recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7.  In addition, we received an upgrade from CS4 to CS6.  Now none of the actions that we use in analyzing image falsification will work.  How do we upgrade the CS4 actions to CS6?

How can I transfer my workspaces, presets, actions and brushes (to a new version/ to another computer)?
If you have specific issues, ask in the PS forum and provide info about what steps your actions actualyl use...

  • Warning CS4 CS5 and CS6 Photoshop Action Users

    Adobe introduce the Adjustment Panel in CS4 and included two option that you should NEVER CHANGE from their default setting.  For if either or both are change from their default settings some actions that add adjustment layers will fail to work properly. They may or may not produce error pop-ups.
    I have been trying to get this fixed for a couple of years now.  The other day I received an e-mail from an Adobe programmer informing me that he had been assigned the task to fix the problems I've been having.  He included information he was considering.  It was clear he did not fully understand the problems and that keeping one of the options would make it impossible to maintain compatibility with previous versions of Photoshop.  I wrote two e-mails explaining the problems and a third detailing what the problems I saw with what was proposing.  He wrote back the all he wanted to do was to work on part of the problem not the whole problem. I wrote a fourth note but Adobe is back is stealth mode.
    The two options in the Adjustment Panel fly-out menu are:
    "Add Layer Mask by Default" checked by default.  This is how Photoshop always worked prior to CS4 there was never an option not to add one so nothing was ever recorded whether or not a layer mask was to be added they always were.  Changing this will make Photoshop not backward compatible.
    "Clip to Layer" not checked by default.  There has always been an option to clip adjustment layers to the previous layer. So when the option is used the action recorder records the option "With Clipping Mask" in the make adjustment layer step.  When the Adjustment Layer is not clipped the option "with Clipping Mask" is not recorded. In the past these recordings played back correctly and still do if the Adjustment Panel fly-out option "Clip to Layer" is not checked.  However if Adjustment Panel option is checked even though is was nit when the action was recorded for the option "With Clipping Mas" is not recorded Photoshop clips the layer because of the Adjustment Panel current Option setting. That could be fixed. The current option setting has no meaning in this context in fact the Adjustment panel may not have even been used to recode the Make Adjustment Layer step.
    Here is a link to a simple action recorded in CS6. It opens a new default size document add an Levels Adjustment Layer deletes the layer mask and then clips the adjustment layer to the previous layer.  The Action will play correctly in all versions of Photoshop prior to cs4.  It will fail in CS4, CS5 and CS6 if either or both of the Adjustments Panel fly-out options are changed from their default setting.  http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/CS6AdjLayer.atn

    Generally, you would have got the option to remove the old versions.  However, you can uninstall the old versions but you should do it from Windows Add/Remove modules in the Control Panel so that it doesn't remove the common files from your machine.
    If you are not constrained by disk space then the best thing is to leave the old programs on the system until you are familiar with the new features of the upgraded program.
    I have renmoved the old programs from my Windows 7 because I wasn't using them.  These days I use "Corel Paintshop Pro X5" and "Corel Draw Graphics Suite X6".
    Photoshop is for something I need to test for my colleagues who are not familiar with certain features in Corel so I tell them how to do it in PS CS6.
    Hope this helps.

  • Long-time Elements user who had planned for CS4, CS5 or CS6 on disk

    As a long-time Elements user who had planned to purchase Photoshop CS4, CS5 or CS6 right before the Cloud changed everything, why can't I get the cloud subscription for $9.99? This makes me want to just buy an older disk on EBay or elsewhere.

    why can't I get the cloud subscription for $9.99?
    Are you trying to subscribe to the Photoshop Photography Program (PS+LR)?
    That deal is available to anyone, regardless of whether you've purchased Adobe software in the past or not.
    What is preventing you from subscribing?

    this is my set of saved actions...i was told to paste it in here...is this what you ment?

    Who told you to post in the scripting forum…? To be honest you a talking to a pretty small selection of AI users here… Actions would be better discussed in the General Fourm where more users use them… That and I don't know a user who posts in this little community who uses CC yet…
    #target illustrator
    var aiActions = File( Folder.desktop + '/YourActionsNameHere.aia' );
    if ( aiActions.exists ) {
              app.loadAction( aiActions );
    } else {
              alert( 'Could NOT locate your Actions' );
    I've no idea if the above works Im using CS5 so can't test… You could try adding to a Startup Scripts folder in your app folder…

    I'm going back to cs4 after using cs6 and I can't open nef files in camera raw.

    Each camera needs a specific camera raw version (ACR).  And each ACR is tied to a specific version of PS.  See this list http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

  • Delete CS4 & 5 when CS6 is installed

    I am trying to cleanup my Adobe Folders on my PC I am running Window 7 Ultimate.  In the program files:
    1. Under Program Files - ADOBE I have Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64bit), Adobe Photoshop CS6 plus Adobe Photoshop CS6 Bridge (64bit).
    2.  Under Program Files (x86) - ADOBE I have Adobe Photoshop CS4, CS5.1 and CS6, Extentsion Manager CS4 and Bridge CS6
    The only thing showing up in the window 7 UNINSTALL Program utility is Adobe Photoshop CS6.
    I want to know can I safely just delete anything listed above that is not CS6??
    Thank you
    Bob

    Creative Suite Cleaner Tool
    Run it, remove the remnants of your CS4 and CS5, reinstall CS6.

  • After Effects CS4 and AME CS6

    I have AE cs4 and am needing to export to windows media player.  When I choose that option in AE I get a crash error <5188> <ae.blitpipe> <2> rect t:39.000000 l:15.000000 w:1213.000000 h:768.000000
    I have the final video as an avi and tried to use AME cs6 to encode it but do not have the option like others have mentioned on here.  Does AE cs4 and AME cs6 not work together?  I'm running windows XP 64 and I am not in a position to purchase Premier and my boss would rather not upgrade my windows or after effects.  I would like to know what my options are.

    64-bit Windows XP is not a supported operating system for any version of After Effects. That may be part of your problem.
    That is unfortunate, maybe I can get my boss to upgrade me.
    In the mean time we decided to use WinX for the encoding.  If it were up to me I'd much rather go all Adobe.

  • Do I need to uninstall CS4 before installing CS6

    Hello
    I'm looking at upgrading from CS4 to CS6.  Is it best practice to remove CS4 first?  My concern is all work created in CS4 may have computability issues with CS6 and perhaps keeping CS4 around isn't a bad idea as a safety net...

    It is not a requirement to uninstall CS4 when installing CS6.  As far as upograding from CS4 to CS6 goes you should doublecheck if that is possible.  For products that I am aware of there is no longer an upgrade path from CS4 to CS6, only CS5+.

  • Can Illustrator CS4 open Illustrator CS6 files? or other work around way to open CS6 files?

    Can Illustrator CS4 open files created in CS6? or can CS6 files be converted to be opened in CS4? like CS6 InDesign can be saved in IDML files to be opened in previous versions. Or if there is any other work around ways, like save CS6 files in PDFs/eps/... so the files can be opened in CS4 and work from there. Thank you.

    Open in CS6 , file >> Save As >> Version >> CS4.

  • Does CS4, CS5, or CS6 have the abliity to open CS2 files?

    I currently am running Adobe CS2 on my Windows XP computer. I will soon have to upgrade to Windows 8, and I know CS2 will not run on Windows 8, but I also know that my files will not open in CS3 ('ve tried opening an Illustrator CS2 file in CS3, and it wouldn't open). Does CS4, CS5, or CS6 have the abliity to open CS2 files?

    CS3 will definately open a cs2 file. Something is not right if it won't.  I have been using illsutrator since CS2 and have not had an issue yet.

  • CS4 upgrade to CS6 Where did my plug ins go?

    CS4 upgrade to CS6: where did my plug ins go?

    where did my plug ins go?
    Nowhere. They are still happily in your (former) PS CS4 plug-in directory. There is no such thing as automatic migration. You need to obtain the proper CS6 versions from the vndors (possibly at extra cost) and install those.

  • Keeping CS4 webpremium with CS6 Design on same machine

    Subject says it all.... I have CS4 WebPremium installed on my Mac. We have purchased a CS6 Design Standard and I want to essentially, keep the DreamweaverCS4 on my machine so I don't want to remove CS4 web.
    Can I have both versions installed w/o losing the CS4?

    Yes.
    For most Adobe software, different versions install into their own separate folder on your hard drive.
    I have CS4, CS5 and CS6 happily co-existing.

    Is it possible to pass from Photoshop CS4 to Photoshop CS6 by upgrading ???

    CS5 and CS5.5 are the only qualifying versions for upgrading to CS6.

  • Can I reinstall cs4 after installing cs6

    I installed my new copy of CS6 on my new iMac. Subsequently I realised that I need my original copy of CS4 to run alongside on the same mac. When I try to install the original CS4 it rejects both serial numbers - the original CS4 serial and the new CS6 serial number. Is it possible to do this or will I need to uninstall CS6 and start again?

    Uninstall CS6, run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, then reinstall in proper order - CS4 first, then CS6.

  • Transferring actions in CS6 between Mac and PC

    Hi,
    I am struggling with getting actions I created or used on my Mac in CS6 to work on my PC (also CS6) at work. Would this be some kind of issue because they might have been created in an earlier version of CS? I have downloaded actions from the internet and used them on the PC version of CS6 and they have been totally fine.
    Any actions that I've sent myself from my MC to PC simply won't open, I get the following error message:  'Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop'.
    Is there anything I can do to get this working? For the record I get the same error with gradients as well.
    Thanks for your help,
    Sarah

    the PC can tell it is an action though, as it says it under file type.
    On Windows there is the possibility of file extensions being hidden from your view.  That's almost universally confusing and for some reason it's the default!
    I think that may be playing a factor here.
    Click the Start button, type folder into the search box, and click Folder Options when it comes up.
    Choose the View tab.
    Uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known file types.
    This should give you the ability to see all file extensions that are actually there.  You may have to log off and back on again to get this to take effect everywhere.
