Transferring from i pod to new computer (without access to old computer)

Is there any way for me to transfer the content of my i pod onto my new computer without using the old computer? I am abroad and have no access to it at present. i have read the i tunes support sections, and understand I can have my i -tunes content from my old computer backed up onto cd then sent to me for me to then install on my computer here. However, if there is an easier way to do this then I'd be keen to know! Can anyone help?

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

I recenlty bought a new computer, a Windows one and my old computer was a Mac. I am trying to move my itunes library to my new computer, however, I do not know how to do this. I downloaded itunes on my new HP and I have logged in to itunes and have authorized this computer on the account. I cannot seem to find any of my songs or how to bring them up in my itunes account. I do not have my old computer in my presence. If someone has an idea, please let me know. I just want to listen to my music!!

Moving Songs from Ipod to NEW computer- don't have old computer!! :-/

I have a 30GB Ipod Classic. My old computer died and I no longer have it. I bought a new computer and want to transfer all the music from my ipod on to itunes. When I try and do this it tells me my ipod is already synced with another library and it can only be synced with one at a time. It gives me two options: Erase & Sync (Erase songs off my ipod and replace them with the few I have on my new computer) or Transfer Purchases (which it wont let me do because they have not been 'deauthorized' off my old computer).
Does anyone know how I can transfer the music from my ipod onto my computer without having my old computer that was synced to this ipod????

Regarding your purchases:
In iTunes, click Store > Authorize Computer and enter your information
When it says it is successfully authorized, connect the iPod and click Transfer Purchases
There are several applications that can be used to recover purchases from the iPod in the event of a computer failure, and no backup.

When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D

You need to copy everything form your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
The iphone is not a storage/backup device. it simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
