Transferring from iPhoto

Used iPhoto for several years and was delighted. Transferred to Aperture and have persevered for 4 weeks but am struggling. The transfer of 25,000 photos worked well and I have on an external hard drive but gee th response can be slow and buggy. Quite q large chunk of date data seemed corrupted in the transfer and I've had to batch change so many projects. A couple of questions:
On the Library. It shows my Aperture projects and Albums but seems to also want to show my iPhoto projects a s a long list. I stupidly thought I could delete and Sid so and found the Aperture projects disappeared. Restored fine but is there a way to get rid of this annoying list?
Date change. Ok. So I thought I did it right. Selected a project and selected all photos in the project. Hit the Metadata tab and selected Adjust Date and Time. Inerted new date and checked update masters. Now.....the individual date is changed ( when I hit alt command I) but.....when I look at the neat project icon, it still shows the original date, and annoyingly, sorts based on that date as opposed to the updates. I suspect I'm missing something blindingly obvious....but cqnt figure out what.
On the very positive side. The adjustments capability is great. Very intuitive.

What would cause the following:
Make an album in iPhoto and place 10 pictures in it. You can count the 10 photos and it is confirmed at the bottom of the screen.
Then you go to select this album in the computers iPhone set up. However the album selection show only a count of 8 items and sure enough, when you sync there is only 8 images transfered to the iPhone ??
Any ideas?
Thanks

• How do I delete photos on my iPhone that were transferred from iPhoto to my phone?

I recently transfered most of my photos from my iphone to iphoto on my macbook. A couple of days later I transfered some of them back onto my iphone, but now when i look at them on my iphone there is no way to delete them there. Ive tried everything but nothing works. I simply cannot delete photos on my iphone that were transfered there from iphoto.
I thought apple was supposed to make things easier, but apparently not.

Correct. You need to Un-sync them using your Computer.
Basically do the opposite of what you did to get them on your Device.

• Raw files transferring from iPhoto into Lightroom as JPEGs

I know this makes me sound like a newbie but in lightroom 3 the raw files were listes as .crw when I imported them from iphoto but in lightroom 4.1 they are showing up as .jpg. Am I doing something wrong? Are these actually RAW files I am working with or is lightroom converting them before I get a chance to work with them.

Hi rtdude13
Lightroom's not converting them, but it sounds like you may be exporting JPEGs from iPhoto instead of the original raw files. Would you like to tell us a little more about your workflow so we can hunt down the problem?

• Transferring from iPhoto to Aperture, Deleted Library Too Early

I'm currently moving my entire 20GB photo library from iPhoto to Aperture. I imported all of the photos to Aperture, checked that they all worked right. After playing around with the program some, I decided I really liked it, and (stupidly) deleted my iPhoto library because I figured I was done with it. I later realized that there's one more step I needed to take, that of "Consolidating Masters." Now when I click this, it tells me there's no reference files, of course.
Here's the thing. All of my pictures are actually in the Aperture library. What does "consolidating masters" do, and how do I get around it and get the pictures to actually appear in my Aperture library, instead of just their current limbo state? Any help is appreciated!

When you imported from iPhoto, did you choose to store the files in their current location, or did you choose to store them in the Aperture library? If you chose the latter, then yes, they are in Aperture library package so there are no referenced files because they are all in your library already. You would have only had to consolidate if you had chosen to store the files in their current location which would have been in the iPhoto library.
Check out this part of the Aperture manual.

• Lost Captions when Transferring from iPhoto to Aperture

I had iPhoto 6 which I used for several years to store my photos. Upon getting Aperture 3 recently, I imported the entire library of photos into Aperture so I could have them there.
Since iPhoto 6 didn't support direct transition to Aperture, I needed to import them with the method of "Folders as Projects"
This worked for the most part, however I am facing the major problem that all my captions from iPhoto are lost in Aperture.
Is there any way to do a more direct import or to have the captions retained? Is there a method that can export them first from iPhoto so that the captions are tagged with the folder?
Please help.

As TD said... and you could upgrade to iPhoto 9 for $15 from the Mac App Store . Are your captions worth $15?
One thing to note: Upgrading your library from 2005 to the latest iPhoto won't necessarily be without issues either although iPhoto 9 has been out for awhile and most of the bugs should be worked out by now.

• How do I keep photos from transferring from iPhoto to my iPhone 5?

I don't have my iTunes set up to sync photos to my phone yet I have folders on my phone from iPhoto with pictures that I uploaded and deleted from my phone a long time ago. How do I delete the folder from my phone and how do I keep it from happening again?

Connect your phone to your Mac, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings, select Sync Photos from and select the source (such as iPhoto), then click Apply at the bottom to sync your phone.

• Blurry photos in iPhoto 11 when transferring from iPhoto 6 on different computer

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro and I'm transferring my files over from my old MacBook. When I moved my photos from the old one (running iPhoto 6) over to the new one (running iPhoto 11), the images look horrible. They're all blurry and I can't enlarge them hardly at all without them looking really bad. Does anyone know why this would be and how I can fix it? Thank you in advance!

The key question here is what exactly did you move, and how?
This sounds very like you either copied only the thumbnails from the older machine or you imported one Library to another.
FWIW
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

• Help! All Songs Transferred From iPhoto to iDVD Did Not Come Accross! Why

My slideshow (240 photos) with a playlist (five songs) all looked great in iPhoto. I sent the slideshow via the 'Send to iDVD' pull down menu to build the theme/DVD before burning. Why I preview the slideshow before burning, I only hear the first (of five) songs. All the photos are right (with Ken Burns, etc...) but I only hear the first song. Ugh! Please help!
Thanks!
iMac G4 Flat Panel Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi rocketman:
There is a bug that causes that to happen...
(Thanks to John Kellar):
One workaround is to make a slideshow soundtrack by making a single long track of music from purchased or regular music:
1) Burn your desired playlist to CD in iTunes.
2) Make sure you have itunes Preferences set to "just open the CD and not automatically play or import the songs."
3) Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
4) Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
5) Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
6) When done, make a new playlist named after the slideshow.
7) Put the new combined track into the playlist.
8) In iPhoto, select this playlist for your slideshow.
You can also Share/Export the slideshow to Full Quality DV; import the resulting Quicktime movie into iMovie and add the music there (or do the whole slideshow in iMovie). If you have Quicktime Pro, you can Share/Export the slideshow (like above), but then open the resulting Quicktime movie in QTPro, and copy/paste your music from within Quicktime.

• Problem transferring from iPhoto to iPhone4

I have imported pictures taken by my iPhone4 to iPhoto, however, when I put them into albums and sync, the photos will not transfer back to the iPhone4.

iWeb '08 is really problematic with Lion & Mountain Lion but you might try:
Try deleting the preferences file:
1) Quit iWeb.
2) Delete the following file: Library/Preferences/com.apple.iweb.plist (use the go menu & hold the option key to reveal the Library)
3) Relaunch iWeb.

• Why have my 20,000 photographs from iPhoto not been transferred to photos in your recent iOS upgrade

why do you make life difficult when you issue upgrades . Surely you should check that they do what you say they will do!!
IiPhoto becomes photo , easy peasy you say photos from iPhoto library will automatically transfer across to photos .
bit of a let down when you find that out of 20,000+ photographs NOT ONE was transferred from iPhoto library . I take it that I have got to sit in front of my screen and transfer one by one , because to my horror tried to update from my Time Machine back up it does not transfer album data across at all . Heart felt thanks for that guys !
ALso so some of the shots won't transfer because metadata is compromised .
CAn I revert to Iphoto and get rid of photo ?

bit of a let down when you find that out of 20,000+ photographs NOT ONE was transferred from iPhoto library
You have to open your iPhoto library with Photos to convert it to the Photos format. Launch Photos with the Option key held down and check to see how many libraries are presented in the window. If there is a Photos library open it to see if there's any photos. If not then you haven't opened the iPhoto Library with Photos to convert it. So launch Photos again with the Option key held down, select the iPhoto Library and let it convert.
Also, the iPhoto application is still in the Applications folder. It was just replaced in the Dock with Photos. If you were using iPhoto 9.6.1 before upgrading to 10.10.3 you can still use it with your iPhoto Library.

• Why do my photos get blurry when they are enlarged to full screen from the disc I burn, or played on the t.v.? I set the burn on the highest quality. The photos don't look blurry when enlarged from iphoto on the computer.

Why do my photos that are transferred from iphoto to idvd, and then burned on DVD, look blurry when the idvd is shown full screen on computer or on t.v. They don't look blurry when I enlarge the iphoto pics on the computer. I used the 'prof. quality" encoding setting before burning, and before putting photos on idvd.

Hi
DVD is as standard - only interlaced SD-Video (as on old CRT-TVs) and can never be any better than this.
This is less than a quarter of Your Mac screen resolution.
That's one part of Why You can see High res. on Your Mac - and not on DVD.
Next part is what program is used to make the SlideShow.
If You use iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - to make it - it too degrades the final result as non of them can deliver interlaced SD-Video to iDVD but only half (every second line in the picture)
I use
• iMovie HD6 or
• FinalCut (any version) or
• FotoMagico™
As they all delivers 100% of what iDVD or Toast™ or DVD Studio Pro or Whatever needs.

• Merge JPEG and RAW after import from iPhoto

Hi,
camera is set to shoot JPEG + RAW, iPhoto manages after import from camera as two separate files.
I want to transition from iPhoto to Aperture.
After importing from iPhoto into Aperture, is there any chance to merge the files in a way similar to how Aperture merges jpeg + raw when importing directly from camera?
Thx

When I click on Faces, it's empty, the import from iPhoto forget to import faces?
Hello Kris,
How did you imort from iPhoto? If you import using the Aperture Apllication menu
File -> Import -> iPh.oto Library
then all your Faces should be transferred from iPhoto.
Which of the two buttons in Aperture do you use to show your "Faces"? There is the "Faces" button in the Library panel and the "Faces" Button in the Toolbar. Both behave differently. The "Faces" button in the Library panel will reveal all faces, whereas the "Faces" Button in the Toolbar will only show the faces detected in the in the currently selected item (folder, project). So it may appear that faces are missing, even if they are included in the Aperture Library.

When I click on Faces, it's empty, the import from iPhoto forget to import faces?
Also, I can start adding names to faces, but then after a while, I'm not asked to assign any more names and I only have 12 faces but there should be many many more?
But the most important question remains : how to get my Faces from iPhoto?
Thanks,
