Transferring gif and jpeg files to FCP

I was wondering why even though I have really high resolution files, pics, etc, when imported to fcp the files look pixelated and low quality. Ideas?

Several reasons including Not rendered ( full or preview ) or not viewing on an external broadcast monitor, instead your laptop screen. add a drop shadow to it and it'll pop. Gif are usually a lower rez to begin with, stick with jpegs or psd files.

  • Self-replicating PDF and jpeg files in my Library Mail folder--help!

I've been to the Genius bar twice, just wiped my computer clean--and still my computer self-replicates PDF, documents, gif and jpeg files that exist on my hard drive in the Library-Mail folder every time I open the Mail program! The same ones, over and over--to the tune of about a half a gig of space every two days!
I haven't seen anything on the Internet that relates to this specific issue--and at the Apple store, they had no idea how to help me.
    HELP?
    Thank you!

    Scott (et al),
Please look in your Library folder (in your HOME folder) for a "Mail Downloads" folder. If it exists, drag it out to your Desktop, then replace it with a new folder of the same name. To be clear, you will drag the current "Mail Downloads" folder to your Desktop, then you will create a new folder in your Library folder. You will name the new folder "Mail Downloads."
If the folder does not exist in your Library folder, create it yourself. Create a new folder in your Library folder, then name it "Mail Downloads."
Try whatever is applicable to you, then test for the creation of these duplicate files in your "Mail" folder.

  • Bridge: why can't I add any metadata to gif and pct files???

Not sure what the issue is here with Adobe Bridge and gif and pct files, but Bridge won't let me add any metadata or keywords.
With keywords, Bridge displays a window saying that pct and gif files can't add xmp metadata.
Is there something I'm missing in my settings? Or should I just go ahead and convert all my gif and pct files to jpegs, tiffs or psd.

  • Creating GIF or JPEG files

Is it possible to render a graphic object into a GIF or JPEG file and save it in a Java application?
    Thanks.

    For JPEG:
    1) Try JAI (http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jai/) or the Java Image I/O from JDK 1.4.
    2) Try PJA (www.eteks.com)
There is a pitfall if you want to do imaging in a Unix/Linux machine and the Java program can not access a X Server (maybe the machine is not running X). In this case you must install a "fake X Server", or use PJA.
    For GIF:
Due to LZW patent problems with GIF compression the packages that generate GIF files have(had) to get a Unisys license.

  • I have uploaded raw and jpeg files directly from my camera to my iPad (latest version) I have processed them in snapseed and want now to transfer back to my pc for further processing. How can I do this will a flash drive work?

I have processed my raw and jpeg files on my iPad using Snapseed . What format are they saved in on the iPad and how do I transfer them back to my pc where I use photoshop elements. Can I use just an ordinary flaws drive with the USB adaptor? Thanks any help would be appreciated.

The camera connection kit can only be used to import photo/video files form a camera, SD card or USB flash drive. You can't import other types of files. You can't export any type of files using the camera connection kit.

  • Import from HD folder with NEF and JPEG files-Can't see JPEG files

I am using Aperture 2 and I am trying to import from an external HD folder of images, with both NEF and JPEG files of the same photo. Using the import function, the import pane only shows the NEF file, not the JPEG file. Is there a setting somewhere that will allow me to see the JPEG file also, so I can import only the JPEG. (note: if I move the JPEG to a different folder away from the NEF file, then the JPEG appears and I can import it.)
PS I am importing only the JPEG because I have a Nikon D60, which is still un-supported.

You could import both, select all images afterwards, select 'Create version from master jpeg'(alt-J), unstack all (shift-cmd-K while everything is still selected), sort by file size to separate the raws from the jpegs, and delete the raws.
Or run the raws through Adobe's DNG converter (which in its newest version, 4.4, supports the D60) and use the DNG baseline support until Apple (or rather Aperture) supports the D60.

  • Viewing both RAW and JPEG files in iPhoto

If I use the new Apple SD card reader to download image files from my camera, it is my understanding that by default it brings over both the RAW and JPEG versions of the same images to the iPad Mini (since my camera is taking both types with each image).
Will these then show up as two separate images in iPhoto? The reason I'm asking is because if I have to bring over the RAW files, I want some way of then deleting them off my iPad because they take up to much HD space.
No one I've talked to at Apple seems to know if there's a way to bring over just the JPEG files I want when using the SD card reader, which seems like a huge oversight in functionality to me.
    Thanks, David.

    LarryHN:
    1) your suggestion will not work for the issue I'm describing: if I have both Raw and Jpeg files of the same image on my SD card, the iPad sort of lumps these together, so when I view the contents of my SD card it shows as one image/file, and if I select it and download it, it brings over both the Raw and Jpeg versions of the image, which is what I am trying to avoid and why I started the tread in the first place.
    2) I spoke with sales people at two Apple stores and one person with their online sale, and none of them could addrss my issue. The online sales person said she might have to put me through to their tech people to resolve this or at least get the full, correct info. None of them were janitors.
I did find a workaround which I think will work:
Download the files over to my iPad, then use an app like Photo Manager Pro to be able to view the files by type, then select the Raw files and delete them from my iPad. This will work I hope, but seems like a lot of extra work for a device that's supposed to be user friendly--I think Apple missed the boat on this one, opting for making things 'simple' instead of functional for photographers.

  • Single item having content type property set for both GIF and JPEGs

Is it possible to have a single blob column in the database that stores either jpegs or gif files and then the ability to display either type through a hyperdrill on a Discoverer item? If so, how can the content type property on an blob item be set to two options?
    regards
    Paul P

    Hi,
Discoverer will use the content_type property to set the MIME type used when opening the blob. So if your blob contains more than one type of file and you want to use different programs to view the files then there are 2 options you can use:
Option 1: Create a EUL item for each content type. For example, you create a item called gif_content, set the content type to gif, and use decode(type, 'GIF', blob) to populate the item only if the content is gif. Then the user will see multiple hyperlink columns, but only one of the columns will contain a link in each row.
Option 2: Create a mod_plsql procedure to download the blob. Rather than include the blob in your EUL, instead include a URL that runs your mod_plsql procedure to download the blob. Set the content type for the URL to be FILE and in the procedure set the MIME type using OWA_UTIL.mime_header and download the blob using WPG_DOCLOAD.download_file. Then the user will see one URL hyperlink that will download all file types.
    Hope that helps,

  • Program for turning animated .gif and MP3 files to .mov

I need a program that takes an animated GIF and an MP3 of WAV file and turns them into a .mov file, but I don't have the money for FinalCut. Is there a cheaper (or free) program that can do this thing?

  • The availability of color space in RAW, TIFF and JPEG files

This is useful if your new to DSLR photography.
This is Nikon response on my question in the discussion: View photo metadata
I'm assuming that you know that Adobe RGB shows about 50% and sRGB 35% of CIELAB color space.
In a DSLR camera like the Nikon D800 you can select a color space (Adobe RGB or sRGB) in the shooting menu.
In Adobe Lightroom 4.3 the RAW metadata shows no color space info. Therefore I asked why not?
In the (Dutch) Nikon D800 manual on page 84 (about RAW) and 274 (about color space) and Nikon FAQ website there is no descripton about the color space availability/behavior in RAW, JPEG and TIFF files.
In the book "Mastering the Nikon D800 by Darrel Young" on page 125 - 126 is written: "If you shoot in RAW format a lot, you may want to consider using Adobe RGB....."
All experts on this forum answered: color space does not apply/affect the RAW data file or RAW files have no color space.
The respone of Nikon Europe Support (Robert Vermeulen) was: In Nikon D800 NEF RAW files both color spaces (Adobe RGB and sRGB) are always physically available. In JPEG and TIFF files only the in the shooting menu selected color space is physically available. So the forum experts gave the correct answer!
Of course you can convert afterwards a JPEG or TIFF file with sRGB color space to Adobe RGB but you don't get more colors.
When you install the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack or FastPictureViewer Codec Pack they only show color space metadata for JPEG and TIFF files and nothing for RAW because color space "doesn't exist". I thought the codec packs removed the color space metadata for my RAW files.
Adobe Lightroom also can not show color space for RAW files because that "doesn't exist".

I still think this is an evasive answer that doesn't really pinpoint the exact chain of events that take place. They are:
    1. The raw file contains the naked data captured by the sensor. This is just a very dark grayscale image.
    2. In the raw converter it is encoded into a working color space to process the information. In Lightroom this is known as "Melissa RGB", or linear gamma Prophoto. It is also demosaiced to bring back the color information.
    3. From Lightroom it can be exported to one of the familiar color spaces like sRGB or Adobe RGB. This is, in principle at least, a normal profile conversion.
These three steps are what the camera does to produce a jpeg. So the basic steps are the same, the camera is just doing it automatically (and usually butchering the image in the process...).
This Darrell Young is, I'm sure, an excellent photographer, but in this he is seriously confused and just propagating a common myth. Anyway, thanks for bringing up this discussion, hope you didn't object too much to the tone of the answers... Our only concern here was to get this right and with no room for misunderstanding.

  • I back my music and photos from my windows laptop before it broke on a external hard drive . I just got a new mac book can I use the hard drive to put my wave files and JPEG files on to my mac book

My old lap top broke I save all my music what is wave and my pitches is jpeg on external hard drive
the old laptop was a window base laptop
so I got a new mac coming and I been told my hard drive won't won't on the mac and I lose all my photos and music
    any help
    thanks

If your external drive has the right ports, you should be able to plug it up to your Mac and copy over your photos and wav files. You'll probably (I don't know this for sure as it's been a long, long time since I've dealt with wav files) need to convert the wav files to MP3 or some other format (but I would try opening them directly from iTunes, first - wait a second... yes, iTunes will open wav files).
There are only a fixed number of ways that Windows drive can be formatted and a Mac can read (though not necessarily write) them all. So you should have no trouble with that.

  • Why having displayed both generic icons for the PDF and JPEG files and automatic preview of the JPEG files in an ordinary folder are mutually exclusive in Win7?

    In Win7 Pro all my:
PDF documents, with the 'Large Icons' option chosen in the View tab, display contents of their first page with a tiny thumbnail in the icon's lower right corner, instead of a generic PDF icon.
JPEG files show Icon size photos, instead of a generic Nero 9 PhotoSnap Essentials icon.
Folders containing the JPEG photos, however, automatically show preview, when opened, which is desirable feature.
I found that the Win7 option "Always show icons never thumbnails" in the View tab: Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options, (where ironically the present 'thumbnails' have nothing to do with 'Thumbnails' from the View option in WinXP), causes the unwanted effects described in points 1 & 2, when unchecked.
Checking this option solves the problem of the PDF and Nero icons. This time, however, I can only see a Nero 9 PhotoSnap Essentials icons, instead of photos preview on opening of any standard folder with the JPEG photos.
Did I make a mistake somewhere or maybe Microsoft made changes in Win7 with respect to WinXP, which make it impossible to have both the features working at the same time?

    Hi,
You can install the Win 8.1 software drivers using this link.

Once installed, it should have the same features as the Win 7 drivers for scanning.

  • ACR 4.1, Bridge 2.1 and JPEG file handling

    Question:
I have bridge ACR preferences to use ACR for JPEG files. I find it to be inconsistent and was wondering if others had the same problem.
    1. Some jpeg files open fine in ACR; others do not.
    2. Also, if I select 2 or more jpeg files and then Cntrl-R to open in ACR, they will not load whereas the same operation always works with RAW (ORF in my case) files.
I thought I had read (in a NAPP tutorial somewhere) that Cntrl-R would open all selected files in ACR as it does for RAW. Is this not correct?
Any ideas on why the inconsistency when opening a single jpeg file?
    Thanks.
    Additional Info
    Photoshop Version: Photoshop CS3
    Operating System: Windows XP

I don't think the problem lies in the name. LR is after all meant to function as a data base of images and be a companion program to PS - with PS doing the heavy editing lifting. I do understand that PS is a pixel editing file and LR is not. I like the idea of the non-destructive editing that LR has to offer and for a lot of image "developing" I prefer LR's interface to ACR.
In my humble opinion, I just think that the Photoshop family of products should all be able to read the same metadata. If I am starting in LR with a psd file (with layers) and I continue to process the image further in LR and save the metadata - therefore saving the changes - I want to be able to open that same file (not another copy) in ACR, PS, or Bridge and have those changes reflected. The only way to do that currently is to export the file and when you do that you lose the PS layers and the LR history panel or another way around it is you can have edit copies of the same file. If at a later date you wanted to go back and change something, you can't just pull out a layer in PS or undo a history state in LR and with the multiple copies of essentially the same image you end us with any editing history scattered amongst multiple files. I already keep 2-4 (original, psd, jpeg print, jpeg web) files for one image which I think is more than adequate. Which is why I find the current set up so frustrating. For now I have just settled for exporting jpegs so I can see the changes.

  • Why is Lightroom5 copying both RAW and Jpeg files into the destination folder ?

    Hi all Lightroom experts,
I want to copy the RAW files from my SD csrd to my Drobo harddisk. And everytime I did that, Lightroom copied BOTH the raw & jpeg files
How do I instruct Lightroom to copy only the RAW files ?
Just to disgress a bit, in fact the same problem happens in Adobe Bridge despite me selecting only the RAW files to be copied but it always copied both !!
    Any tips ?
    Thanks

    dj_paige wrote:
You can tell Lightroom to treat JPGs next to RAW as separate photos, or treat the JPG as a sidecar file using the instructions here:
Lightroom Help | Set import preferences
If the JPG is a sidecar file, the JPG is still imported but doesn't show in your Library module.
If you really don't want to import the JPGs, you'd have to select the RAWs but not the JPGs in the Import dialog box; or import them all and then delete the JPGs from Lightroom and your hard disk (easier, but takes a little longer); or don't shoot RAW+JPG
Thanks dj_paige and F.MacLion for the solution.
Can I check, if i tick the the check-box and ask LR5 to treat the jpeg as a separate file, FR5 won't import the jpeg files (which is what I wanted) but will LR5 still generate a sidecar file for each of my RAW files ? (I hope it does)
    Thanks
