Transferring I Tune Library to New Computer

I want to transfer my itunes library from my old desktop to a new laptop. They both have the same version of itunes but run on different operating systems.(the desktop runs windows xp and the laptop runs vista) From what I understand this should be an easy process with everything I look at and hear from friends. From what I understand all that I should have to do is transfer my itunes media folder. But on my old computer the itunes files arent sorted in an itunes media folder but in folder named itunes music, itunes games, etc. How should I go about transfering itunes?

My computer crashed and is not able to be saved. i have a new computer now and have downloaded Itunes on the new computer, is there any way to get the music from my Itunes on the old computer to the new computer or am i screwed? Would plugging the IPod into the new computer with new itunes transfer it?

  • How can I copy playlists from i pod to i tunes library on new computer

I bought a new computer and had the contents of my old system transferred.  So my i tunes library is on my new computer but none of my playlists. My playlists are still on my i pod. How can I use my  ipod to get my playlists back into my i tunes library on my computer?

Sorry, may I ask, are you running Mac or Windows and which version of iPod?
If you want to transfer playlist from your iPod to the new Computer, you need 3rd party software, here is an earlier post by iSmn

But since you got your old system transferred, this mean that your library and your playlist are in the new Computer.
So you got to point the iTunes to where your old iTunes library is, here is the link for Migrating the iTunes library in your Mac, but if you arre using Windows, there is a link there for Windows System..

  • Trying to put my old i tunes library on new computer - says cannot locate files

    Hi
I have just installed i tunes onto my new computer, I followed the steps on line to transfer my old i tunes library onto my new computer (it was backed up on external hard drive).  Now all the songs are showing, but when I click on them it brings up an exclamation mark and says it cannot locate the file.
Can someone please help me - I am a complete novice when it comes to technology.
    Many Thanks

    Hi
I have managed to find a previous library on another external hard drive and managed to add folders to i tunes.  It hasn't put all of the songs I had on previously on there, but it is all of the ones that I no longer have the cds for now.  All of the other songs I have got cd's for so can just redo them.
I am assuming now that all the songs are back in i tunes this will be my most up to date i tunes library now.   Once I have got my additional songs on would you recommend backing up the new library to an external drive again.
Thanks for your help, I have never had this problem before, it seems that whenever there is a new version of i tunes more problems arise!

  • Transferring my iTunes library to new computer

My old laptop has given up the ghost, so have transferred my iTunes library to my my computer. However - although this new computer is authorised - when I try to do anything in iTunes, all the options, (Library, Ringtones, Apps etc.) are greyed out and I'm not able to make any changes or updates, but for some strange reason syncing to my iPhone still works.
Anyone got any ideas. All help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

Sounds like your authorization is screwed up. Try this:
    1. Open My Computer from the Desktop or Start menu.
    2. From the Tools menu, choose Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders," make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
    7. Right-click the SC Info folder shown and choose Delete from the shortcut menu.
    8. Restart the computer.

  • Transferring complete iTunes library to new computer

Hi everyone, I have tried transferring my iTunes library to my new computer using home sharing but some of my artwork and all of my play history is missing. Is there a fix to transfer my COMPLETE library onto my new computer. I am running the latest version of ITunes on both machines.

Quit iTunes, go to the copied my music folder en double click the iTunes library file. Now it'll see your old library in stead of the standard empty library which was created by iTunes.

I have coppied the music to a file, but cant seem to import it. I realize Apple did this to detuor stealing, but I am not, all I want to do is simply use my itunes like anyone else. any suggestions as to hoe I can import my ipod music into my itunes on my new laptop????? thanks!

I also have a problem with transferring from one computer to another, in that I have a big library on my laptop which I want to transfer to my PC where I have started another library. (My PC has been in storage for a few months while I was moving house.) I don't want to lose either, so how do I put the laptop library from my iPOD onto my PC without losing what is already on the iPOD? I'm not that computer literate, so please don't blind me with science!! Simple answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Need To Put I Tunes on a New Computer

My Old computer fried in a storm and will not reboot. I need to move my sons I tunes to the new computer. HOW?

Is the library on the blown computer? Below is my standard list of canned links, but in your case you might consider getting an external drive enclosure for the blown computer's drive and then hooking it up to your new computer with the old drive in it.

Probably not enough memory on your device. Also, if most of the songs on your library are ripped from cds, you will not be able to transfer those from your device to your computer. Try checking the articles below:

Authorize the coumputer.  Go to store in the top of the screen and authorize it.

My computer was stolen. How do I locate and transfer my personal unpurchased music that was on I tunes to my new computer?

If by "unpurchased" you are referring to music that you obtained from CDs or other sources, you will have to restore the music from your backup or some other device such as a smartphone or music player.
    Regards.

  • Downloaded I tune to my new Computer and my downloads came up but they will not play.  It says I must authorize them.  What is that?

I downloaded I tunes to a new computer I bought.  I signed in and my music came up.  The songs will not play.  It says I have to authorize them  What is that?  How do I get them to play?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:
