Transferring iPhone to iTunes on a rebooted computer

I just had to reboot my computer to it's oringinal settings due to a virus and was unable to back up any of the contents in my iTunes. I still have all music, contacts etc. on my iphone. How can I get everything that is on my Iphone back onto the iTunes that I had to reload?

You can't. iTunes does not allow you to transfer off the iPhone to a computer, maybe to stop people "sharing music".

Ok, so i just got the Dell XPS M1330... and im transfering my stuff form my old XPS M140, How do i transfer my iTunes stuff to my new notebook? I already downloaded iTunes on the new notebook.... what do i do from here to get everything the way is was on my new notebook. Will i lose my information (contacts, music, phone number, basically everything that is already synced on my iPhone) if i sync it to my new notebook? will it automatically trasfer all the info from my iPhone to my new notebook..... what will happen? I m scared of loosing data or havign to do everything all over again!!!

When you sync the information from the Info tab (contacts and calendar). Since it will be the first sync you will be asked if you want to merge or replace the data. If you choose replace you can choose whether to replace data on the iPhone or on the computer.
iTunes can transfer the purchased iTunes Store content from the iPhone if you authorize the new computer for your iTunes Store account. Other music, video, podcasts, etc won't be transferred.
If you have file sharing setup between the two machines, it might be preferable to just copy the iTunes folder in My Documents\My Music\ to the new computer. It will bring over your playlists, songs, and ratings.

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:

Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences(under the edit menu if using Windows)>Devices in itunes.
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book & iCal or Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, DO NOT SYNC at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

I need step by step instructions for moving my iPhone 4/iTunes files from a PC Windows XP computer (current version) running Outlook 2003 to a new PC Windows 7 64 bit computer running Outlook 2010. I sync Outlook email, calendar, contacts, notes, and have iTunes music (purchased and not purchased) and photos (camera roll only). I'm not using iCloud due to duplication of data inconsistencies. My iPhone 4 is fully up-to-date on OS version, as is my iTunes. My iPhone 4 is fully backed up to the current computer. The current XP computer is the only computer that I sync with, and the new 7 computer will be the only computer I sync with post transfer.

Plug in your phone and launch iTunes on the computer. Then in the sidebar look for something about an iPhone. Click it and set up your iPhone. Has this iPhone ever been synced with another computer?

You should transfer your library from your old computer to the new one.
If that is not possible then you should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

The iPhone and iTunes are designed to sync music only one way, from the computer to the iPhone. If you are trying to copy music from the iPhone to the computer, it won't. If you have authorized the computer in iTunes with your Apple ID, you can transfer any purchases made with iTunes to the new computer. If you have a backup of your iTunes music library, you can copy that to the new computer.
You have found that if you connect the iPhone to the computer an attempt to sync, it is warning you that you will lose all data currently on the phone and replace it with what is on the computer. If you backup the phone before trying to sync, it will help, but you would not be able to sync data that is not contained in the backup. You will need to sync your calendar/contacts to a supported application on the computer before attempting to sync the phone. You can get those to move over from the phone if you put in a unique calendar appointment and contact that does not exist on the phone. It will then generate a "merge" prompt to merge the contacts on the computer and iPhone to merge. Otherwise, the new computer becomes the one you sync with once you sync it the first time.

Since all iTunes content on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on the computer that has been used for syncing your iPhone, transfer your iTunes library from that computer to your new computer along with all other important data from the existing computer that you will need or want to access on your new computer such as any documents, photos, etc. Transfer your iTunes library per the instructions included with this link.

There are some purchases I made on my iPhone out of the iTunes store that aren't getting recognized in iTunes on my computer. I've clicked the "Check for Available Downloads" as well as "Transfer Purchases from my device" and neither have resolved the issue. What am I missing? How do I sync my iPhone to iTunes on a new computer without losing everything? My old laptop's hardrive crashed and I just got it back. Now I want to sync my iPhone but it keeps telling me that it'll replace all my audio, but then I'd have no songs.

I just lost EVERYTHING on my computer. All I have left now are my songs and photos on my iPhone. Once I got my laptop back with a brand new hardrive, I was anxious to sync my phone up to iTunes. Oh and my artwork is all messed up on my recent purchases for some reason. Technology doesn't like me.

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

No, as long as the iTunes ID you use is the same one as on your iPhone and your old computer.
But it goes without saying you should make a backup first.

Transferring library to iTunes on a new computer

I have an extensive iTunes library on my old computer that I use for my video iPod. I recently got a new computer and want an easy way to transfer the library over to iTunes on that computer. When I plug my current iPod into the new computer it says that my iPod is already synced with another iTunes library and that I can only have one synced up at a time. Is there any way of tranferring my library using my iPod or without using an external hard drive? I have tried using a flash drive but it seems that it will take forever! It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone. Without syncing : File>Transfer Purchases

Syncing iPhone onto iTunes on a New Computer

My old computer recently crashed and on the new one it obviously has none of my music etc. So im trying to allow my iPhone 4 to 'Manually manage music and videos' but when I click apply it says I must sync it, but this would loose all of my music and videos from my iPhone as there are no songs on iTunes? How can I either allow 'Manually manage music and videos' without it wiping my iPhone or sync my iPhone to my iTunes?

The music/vid sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception being itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use this to put everything on the new computer.
