Transferring iPod Nano to a new computer

I own an iPod Nano (2d Generation). I was recently given a more recent Nano, so I want to give my old one to my adult daughter who does not live in the same city I do, much less have access to my computer. What steps do I have to take to enable her to use it on her iTunes account, on her computer (she has a full-size iPod, but wants to have the Nano for some uses)?

Hi GirlsNanny,
you can copy over your songs to her computer and authorise her computer to play them. if she has a PC, then tell her to:
1. double click on the 'iPod' in 'My Computer' and click folder options in the 'view' menu
2. click on 'show hidden files'.
3. open the folder called 'iPod_Control'.
4. copy the folder 'music' that was inside the folder 'iPod_Control' into 'my documents' or wherever.
5. open 'iTunes', eject the 'iPod'.
6. go into the file 'menu' and select 'import'.
7. click on the 'music' folder that you copied off the 'iPod' and hit enter. it should import all the songs that were on the 'iPod'.
8. give your friend your iTunes account details to let her play them on her computer.
Hope this helped!

When connecting ipad to itunes, in the Summary tab (in itunes for your device), look in the Backups section and choose to back up to itunes.

How does one copy songs from an iPod nano to a new computer?

You can't add any iOS to a Nano since it doesn't run iOS.
For iTunes purchased music connect to your computer and in iTunes go to File > Transfer purchases.
For non-iTunes music you will need 3rd party software. Assuming you have a Windows computer try Yamipod.

  • Sync ipod nano with a new computer

My hard drive in my MacBook crashed and I now have a new computer. I want to get all my songs, playlists, from my ipod onto my computer. Help!!!

See if there are instructions for what you want to do in the iPod nano (5th generation) - User Guide, check Knowledge Base, iPod Nano Support or call U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273).

  • How do I transfer or sync music from a Ipod Nano to a new computer?

I have a new computer and have installed ITunes on it.  An existing Ipod Nano has my music files.  How do I sync or transfer the music from the Nano, so I can use those files on my Iphone?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod Nano. And here is a guide about how to sync music from iPod nano back to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • Transferring ipod and itunes to new computer

I just got a new computer and downloaded itunes. When I plugged my ipod in, my library showed up but the screen was gray and I couldn't select anything. Any suggestions on how to transfer?

Well... if you want to take all your music with you... to a new computer, you can enable your iPod to support Disk Use (support files) and then locate the "iTunes Music" folder that has all your music (under My Docs) and just Copy the file, or drag the file onto your iPod then plug your iPod into your new pc, and open the iPod in My Computer and drag the file off your iPod to My Docs again (on your new pc) or wherever you want it stored.

  • What is the Best Way to Sync iPod nano to a new Computer and User?

what is the best way to sync ipod to a new computer and user?
moving from old mac to new mac - same ipod
    - currently won't add music etc. i guess because it is not associated with this new computer
    - i don't care if I dump all old contents - if necessary...
BTW: what if it's the same username?

    No problem.
What about when I have the same user name on both old and new computers - and right now the new computer sees/syncs the ipod just fine .... but it seems that on another day it might not allow the sync
If it's syncing okay already, then you have nothing to worry about. Anyways, why would it change? It doesn't decide when to. It either syncs or it doesn't depending on the situations circumstances, in which your case, you have nothing to worry about because it's already syncing without issues.

  • IPod nano and like-new computer.

My computer was giving problems so i got everything erased so it's like new. if i install itunes and format my ipod(since it'll be new to my computer) would everything be erased and woulds i be able to get it back?

    See:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
Basically you will have to transfer its contents to the new computer and then restore the iPod and then resync. An iPod can only sync to one iTunes library.
BTW you posted in the iPod touch forum.

  • Transfering iPod contents to my new computer

My old desk-top computer motherboard "broke". I do still have the hard drive which contains the orriginal iTunes. However, rather than connecting it as an external hard drive to my new lap-top, I want to be able to "reverse sync" my ipod to my new computer. Is this possible? I know that songs purchassed from iTunes are on my account, but I put over 2,000 cd's on my old computer/old iTunes folder and do not want to have to go through that again.

  • I am losing a hard drive on another computer so I have downloaded all music to my ipod nano, when I sync the nano to my new computer and new itunes software it won't pick up the music from the old computer what do I do to successfully sync?

I am losing a hard drive on an old computer so I performed a sync of all music from the old computer to my ipod nano.  Now when I sync my ipod nano to my new computer/Itunes all music will not upload to new computer/software.  What am I doing wrong?

I’ve never needed to do that and am fairly new to using itunes but try doing this. Go to, “Store,” in the itunes menu and select, “Authorize this computer.” Enter apple id and see if that works. I heard that method is used to transfer purchased media to a new computer but I don’t know if it works for regular stored media. Please let me know if that works.
