Transferring ITunes from old computer

Hi folks....I need some help please.
I had iTunes on my old PC. I bought myself a new laptop and wanted to transfer my iTunes library across to my new laptop. I created back up discs for my entire library and restored it on the new laptop. Everything worked out fine and had no problems until recently. I went to open iTunes and my entire library had been wiped off. It said that my ipod can only be synced with one iTunes library or PC at a time. This is fair enough as I have not deleted my old library yet, but its not in use.
I went to restore again on my new laptop, but the songs/videos etc are not saving into the library. I checked to see if the files are still there and they are, but they are not going into the library for some reason.
Somebody PLEASE help...I have had several problems with iTunes, but this is by far the worst!!
Any help would be greatly received, thank you.

Hi there jenshep, I suppose this is a pretty negative message. I have been trying for two months now to transfer my music tracks from my old computer, on to my lap top (which is three years old)Until I achieve this Im not going out to buy a new computer. I have acted on all the advice posted from like minded people. I have e-mailed the i-Tunes help line, who refer me to section this paragraph that, to no avail. I visited 'PC.World' as they addvertise a service "transfer all data from your old-to new computer £30" However when I asked if they could definately transfer my music library, they became hesitant and unsure and said if they were unable to transfer the complete library I would get my £30 back, which pales into insignificance when you consider the money I would first have to put out for a new computer. I used to be with Sony 'Sonic Stage' However i-Tunes swept thier market away So I bought into i-tunes. I backed up all 12,000 music tracks on CDs, that took nearly 500 CDs. then to my cost I found i-Tunes would not read my CDs.about halve of which I had recorded from my old vynal collection A message would come up saying "You Have inserted a blank CD" The CDs. worked perfectly fine on my music center & portable CD. players. I still live in hope of transferring my collection, but I don't think I will live that long. Hope I haven't depressed you.
Cheers for now Vince.

  • HT4527 When transferring iTunes from old computer to new computer, even though all of songs were copied over, not all of them went to iTunes, some appear to be stored elsewhere. How can I find these songs, and how do I transfer them to iTunes?

When transferring iTunes from old computer to new computer, all my songs were copied over, but not all of them were stored in iTunes. It appears they are on the computer somewhere, but not on iTunes. Where are these other songs likely to be, and how can I get them onto iTunes? Because of this problem, Apple will not allow me to update my iPhone.

You may/must have had music files stored outside of your iTunes library.
I'd recommend going to the Finder and then via the search box look for files with mp3 aif m4a aac etc. depending on the music format your digital music had. With the list of files shown you should be able to learn which files were stored outside of your music > itunes folder
Chances are they could be burried somewhere under your documents, downloads, desktop, ... we all have different storage and organization habits.
Then when you find the missing files, on the new computer you can do add to library and go to the folder on the other computer where the missing files are - if your systems are networked - or sneak them over using a USB thumb drive or portable hard drive if you have lots of files, or if you like to have an extra backup of that music, copy to optical disc.

I have tried twice; once using the iPod and once using an external storage hard drive to transfer my music.
The libray comes over but not the playlists. Worst problem is that now the music "skips" as though it was on a old fashioned record player! Yikes, can anyone help? What have I done wrong?

You are trying to use home sharing, you are logged into the same account for sharing on both computers (and they are connected to the same wifi network), and what happens when you try to copy your library ? Can you update your iTunes so that they are the same on both ?

  • Transferring itunes from one computer to another - D drive to C drive

Is there an easy way to change the drive location in iTunes for stored music and videos?  I am getting a new computer, and my current data resides on a "D:" drive.  The new computer will just have a single "C:" drive partition.  I don't want iTunes to reorganize my files from their current folders.  The only thing I want to change is the drive letter designation.  Thanks!

  • Transferring pictures from old computer to new computer

I purchased a flash drive but I don't really know what to do when transferring pics from one computer to another.  Help!

Your first job is to find where the pictures are on your computer. Once you find those files, you need to drag them to the drive, which should be under My Computer. Then, just do the reverse to move them to the other computer.

  • Transferring songs from on iTunes from old computer to new.

i just got a new macbook pro. i am wondering how to transfer my itunes from my old imac onto my new macbook. i bought a firewire cable, but i cannot figure out how to transfer all my songs/playlists to my new one.

The most Straight forward way is to put your Old iTunes Folder on to an External Drive and then move it from the Ext Drive to your New Mac...

  • HT1589 Transfering iTunes from old HDD to new HDD

    Hi,..
The graphics card in my laptop that I had itunes on crashed so I took the hard drive out and placed it into my pc running win7X64bit, My question is, can I, or how do I move my itunes music /photos etc from my old laptop drive to my current C:// drive?
    Cheers

If the songs are purchased from itunes they need to be authorized to play on the new machine, before they will play, or be transferred to your ipod. Play one of the purchased songs in itunes, if the new machine is not yet authorized it will bring up a box asking you to enter the itunes account info used to purchase the music. Enter this info and the song should start playing. All songs purchased with that account will now play/transfer from that computer. If you have used multiple accounts to purchase music then each different account will have to be authorized on the new machine.

  • Transferring Files from Old Computer to New Computer

I upgraded my iTunes to 9.1.1 on my old computer (and new computer). On the old computer, I have everything organized in playlists. When I transferred all my music from my old computer to my new computer (via ipod), my playlists do not show up. All the songs are in Music on the top of iTunes. Is there anyway to transfer the itunes exactly as it appears on my old computer to my new computer? Would a USB transfer cable take care of this problem? Please help

    Hi there,
what you did is only transfer all of the MEDIA files into your new computer's iTunes. There is no problem with doing this, but all the media files include are well, the media obviously, and the tagging info (which displays name/artist/album/etc.) If all you do is move the media files onto the new computer and load iTunes, a new copy of iTunes (with no playlists/ratings/play counts and new settings) will load up, and put your content in it.
If you wish to preserve your playlists/ratings/etc, you need to import the iTunes Library File as well. This is by default located in your iTunes directory. So instead of just moving everything from "iTunes Media" (default location), it is best to move the ENTIRE "iTunes" folder, with the Library file and your media files.
However, one trick may still work. If you transfer JUST the Library file over (iTunes Library.itl), transfer it to your new computer, REPLACE the current iTunes Library file with the old one (so delete the new one, put the old one there). Open iTunes while holding SHIFT down the whole time, until a screen pops up asking you to find a library. Select choose library, and go to the location of the Library file we just moved. Select it, and if all goes well your playlists should be there!
You might come across one issue however, and that is if you changed the relative location of your media files. For example if you USED to have it on an external drive "my Music" and now it is on the internal drive in a folder labeled "iTunes Music", the computer may not be able to find your songs because it is looking in the wrong place. If that happens, and you are willing to lose your play counts and ratings, it actually might be more of a time saver to start over again and make your playlists from scratch.

  • Transferring music from old computer using ipod

I recently transferred music from my old computer to my new computer using my ipod by following the directions in apple support (article 300173.) I already had music in itunes on my new computer when I added the music from my old computer. Now all the music that I had loaded prior to the transfer comes up with a message "original file could not be found." Have I lost this music for good?
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If you dragged the file called 'iTunes' in to the music folder in the finder and it asked 'do you wish to overite' then it has probably overwritten the folder tha t already existed
    (with the new music in).
If you haven't emptied you trash it might be in there, but don't click retore the trash just drag the folder onto the desktop.
    Hope this helps.
