Transfering iTunes from PC to iMac
I have had iTunes on a PC for several yrs now. I just purchased an Apple iMac and need to transfer my iTunes from PC to Apple iMac. Not sure how to do it.
I also have an iPad and an iPhone and want them to sync with the new iMac. How do I make it all happen. Don't know enough about
Apple to do it yet.
Help?
kbut how do I get the iMac to be the main computer that the iPad and iPhone sync with?
By copying the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to new computer.
This way it is the same library, not simply a new library with all the same media files.
When you plug in your iDevices, they will sync without a hitch as you are using the same library. -
Transferring iTunes from Windows PC to new iMac
Hi guys,
I know this has probably been asked a hundred times but I cannot seem to find a definitive and straightforward answer.
Basically I have just bought a 27" iMac and would like to transfer my iTunes library and iPhone settings across to this beautiful new machine from my Windows XP PC as painlessly and as easily as possible.
I have been researching this and some people say download the content to a separate hard drive, others say use an ethernet cable, others say use homeshare - understandably i am a tad confused.
Any help, or a pointer to an idiot-proof guide would be extremely beneficial, I can't believe Apple don't have a step by step guide to doing this, seeing how soo many people are making the switch!!That article is very helpful, but leaves out one important step: how to format the hard drive. Assuming you don't have a network connection and don't want to copy multiple GB to CDs (the PC doesn't have a DVD drive), then what? Copy to a hard drive. But how do you format that drive to work on Mac and Windows? Windows won't recognize a Mac-formatted drive. And I know Mac will only recognize one particular format, but I don't remember which one. So how to I set up a hard drive for a transfer?

Hello i just got a macbook and i would like to transfer my itunes from my old imac which has panther to my new macbook which has tiger i have already tried to transfer them using firewire and i got them onto my new macbook but when i opened the itunes application they were not there so i found the itunes folder i had moved and dragged it onto the icon on my dock the songs started to load but then about maybe half way through a sign came up that said that there was not enough room on macintosh HD to copy the selected files and i had to force quit itunes What should i do? Thank you!!
Delete the iTunes folder in the Music folder in the Finder's sidebar, open iTunes, turn off the option to automatically copy the songs to the iTunes music folder in the Advanced section of the iTunes preferences, and drag the folder onto the iTunes icon again.

Can't print to a shared printer on 10.6.8 iMac from Windows 7 iMac
I am creating another discussion as I made some changes and hoping PAHU-san will be able to solve this problem. I am using a Mac OSX 10.6.8 iMac and Windows7 iMac. I installed the driver Canon LBP6750 UFRII on each machine and both can print. However, printing from Windows 7 iMac to a shared printer on the Mac OSX 10.6.8 does not print anything and has no errors.
Here are some logs. If you need additional information, please let me know.

I have been working on this for a long time, and hoping that purchasing these two Canon printers are not a mistake. My iMac 10.6.8 is not directly connected to a printer by USB, but through protocol IPP (I have also tested with HP Jetdirect). I am doing this because I would like the iMac 10.6.8 to be a print server and have client machines (iMac 10.6.8 clients and iMac Windows 7) print through the print server. I have tried the following on the iMac 10.6.8 and have the following errors
1. Generic PostScript - prints out strange characters and prints forever
2. Generic PCL Laser -

I was transferring data from my old iMac to my new iMac via Time Machine. After about 4 hours, the electrical power fluctuated and turned off my wi-fi. Now most of my necessary programs are useless. How do I erase that mess and start over?
Hello there, LynnS.
The following Knowledge Base article and it's referenced link should get you started with the Erase and Install of Mavericks:
OS X Mavericks: Erase and reinstall OS X
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14243
Once you've gone through those 2 articles, this article should help you with restoring from your Time Machine Backup:

When transferring iTunes from old computer to new computer, all my songs were copied over, but not all of them were stored in iTunes. It appears they are on the computer somewhere, but not on iTunes. Where are these other songs likely to be, and how can I get them onto iTunes? Because of this problem, Apple will not allow me to update my iPhone.
You may/must have had music files stored outside of your iTunes library.
I'd recommend going to the Finder and then via the search box look for files with mp3 aif m4a aac etc. depending on the music format your digital music had. With the list of files shown you should be able to learn which files were stored outside of your music > itunes folder
Chances are they could be burried somewhere under your documents, downloads, desktop, ... we all have different storage and organization habits.
Then when you find the missing files, on the new computer you can do add to library and go to the folder on the other computer where the missing files are - if your systems are networked - or sneak them over using a USB thumb drive or portable hard drive if you have lots of files, or if you like to have an extra backup of that music, copy to optical disc. -
Copying iTunes from windows 7 pro to new 2013 Mac Pro
Have all my work on my iPhone 5s. Do nothing but manually syncing on lates iTunes. What to copy iTunes to new Mac Pro so I can use my iPhone on either computer.
Laptop at work and desktop at home.
All store bought music on C drive in iTunes as it should be along with books etc. but about 8 gbs of my ripped music some mp3 some ACC all at 320 is on my internal drive.
First thought is change iTunes setting to CONSOLIDATE hoping D drive music will go into iTunes properly.
While I searched KB I came up flat. I like a clean organized computer. While I know windows vert well I am new to Mac pros (but not iPhones nor iOS 7)..
Any way I can do this cleanly. I can put a full backup of iTunes onto a USB hard drive I use for 3rd back up off pictures and iTunes
Thank youMerry Xmas CF McBlob and thank you. I had thought about that but I want a cleaner easier way of doing it as I start to setup my MacBook Pro I have run into a few things and don't like the D drive idea. I did format a 1 TB drive last nite giving 700gb to Time Capsule and 300gb to data. Used Guid format than journaled for TC and fat for data with disk utility.
There has to be a way I can mirror libraries on computers for iPhone 5s. Heck I see icloud took care of contacts, etc. and iTunes saw all my bought music in cloud and downloaded it to macbook. I consolidated my original library so now all us together. There must be way to copy iTunes from windows and use it to replace folders on Maverick latest so my iPhone 5s is seen the same on windows 7 Pugent system and apple MacBook Pro. I called Apple but got a genius on the phone that had to keep asking for help herself and referencing the KBarticle that gives a few options none of which are clean.
Thank you -

Months ago I tried to uninstall itunes from Windows 7 after an update failed. I couldn't complete it because two files (ShellStreams.resources and ShellStreams.dll ) were in use. I'm ready to try again. Any Suggestions, please.
See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for tips on repairing the iTunes installation. One of the tools mentioned there, Unlocker, should be able to force delete the files that you are having trouble removing.

When transferring data from an older iMac to a newer iMac (refurbished) do the Apple applications like iWorks replace the ones on the newer computer?
I have read how to transfer data and using setup assistant but I am concerned about applications from Apple having the same names. As you likely know legacy apps that are PPC based will not migrate over. However the data files will. I would urge you to inventory the apps you have and their data files to see how important they are and then look app by app to see what app replacements are available. If you are using Office for Mac prior to the 2008 version you will need to get a new license of the app because the 2004 version was PPC based. The files will come over and are readable by newer version of Office for Mac (I recommend the 2011 version) and also readable by the iWorks apps (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) but those are different apps than Office and work differently and do not have all of the features of the MS Office apps. This is really only a issue if you share files with MS Office users, if you use them for personal work then iWork may be just fine for your needs.

Itunes from Windows XP to new IMAC and IPOD
I had a 4th generation 20 gig IPOD that broke and I have Itunes and all my music on a Windows XP machine. I recently purchased a new IMAC and I'm going to purchase a new 5th gene Photo IPOD to use with my new IMAC. Does anyone know if I can backup my music from the Itunes on Windows Xp and install/restore all my music files on Itunes on my new IMAC, and then connect the new IPOD to the IMAC. Is this possible somehow? I have over 2300 songs in my music files on Windows Itunes, none of them have been purchased from the Itune store, they are all from my own CD's. I want to transfer everything to the Mac but dont want to have to redo my whole music files on the Itunes Mac. Thanks.
