Transferring Itunes (playlists etc) from my old G5 to my new MacPro

Hi
I put the music on my computer but I don't have the playlist and it lost all the ratings, play count, Equalizer settings. Is there anyway to transfer without having to start all over?

Oh dear. What you should have done was copy the entire iTunes folder across as your playlists etc are in the 2 database files : iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml.
Assuming that that folder is still on the G5, then copy the whole folder across (or all except the iTunes Music folder you already got, then move that folder into it). Make sure iTunes isn't running when you do this.
If you already got some new music on the new computer, then you will have to copy it to a new location to make sure you don't lose it.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229?viewlocale=en_US - I doubt that it will solve your problem, though. You may want to post on the iPhoto forum - that's where all of the iPhoto experts hang out.

  • What is the best way to move my itunes music library from my old computer to my new one?

what is the best way to move my itunes music library from my old computer to my new one?

    Home Sharing is option A.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
Option B is consolidating the library to an external HD.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364

Or you can use one of the other 8000 methods. I just prefer these two.

  • How do you transfer itunes(including apps etc) from an old laptop to a new one

how do you transfer your old itunes from an old laptop to a new one including apps music etc

    Hi,
Apps should be there on your new PC, if you have your apps synced with the Apple ID you are currently using, and if you type in your Apple ID details on the iTunes Store in the iTunes application, they should be there. Music, you could always transfer via a USB memory stick. Again, music downloaded with your Apple ID should be there.
    Hope I wasn't too confusing!

  • Have a new computer - how do i move my music, etc from the old computer to the new one?

I have a new computer and want to remove music from the old computer and move to the new one.  How do I do it?  I have an IPod mini.

Copy the /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder from the old computer to the new one. You can do this using an external hard drive or by connecting the two computers via Firewire cable (if both computers have Firewire ports) -Transferring files between two computers using FireWire - or using your local network via file sharing.

  • My macbook pro logic board died. I had all my music on an external drive. How do I get my iTunes library, playlists etc. from my dead computer onto my new one?

My logic board died on my old macbook pro. I have a new one, but I want to get my iTunes library off my old hard drive and put it on my new one. I had set up my old MBP to store all my iTunes music on an external drive, so I have the music. The iTunes program was on the old MBP hard drive. How do I essentially recreate my previous iTunes library, playlists, etc on my new laptop?

You will need the iTunes Library.itl file which generally lives in ~/Music/iTunes/. You can recover this from the backups you were making before the HDD died. Otherwise, you cannot recreate the library.

  • Transferring iTunes playlists etc to new computer

Hi, i currently have all my music saved on an external hard drive & when i want to play music, i connect my hard drive via USB to my computer, startup iTunes where all my playlists which i have created etc are & it reads the music from the external hard drive.
I have now got a new computer & have installed iTunes.
    My question is:
How do i now get the iTunes on my new computer to read my external hard drive like my old computer did & still have all my playlists etc there without having to re-sort all my songs?

If the ENTIRE iTunes folder including the iTunesLibrary.itl file is on the external hard drive, simply point iTunes there by holding SHIFT while launching iTunes.
If the iTunesLibrary.itl file is on the old computer then it becomes a little more complicated.  Post back if further instructions are needed.

  • Moving iTunes and iPhone from an old PC to a new MacBook Pro

Hi, I am having some real problems. I have recently bought a new Macbook Pro to replace my old Windows PC. I am having no trouble moving all of documents and music from the old PC however I am completely stuck for what to do in transferring my iTunes and iPhone 4 content AND information onto the new itunes. I have consolidated the music files on the old pc but havent copied anything yet.
What I am looking to do is to be able to sync the iPhone to the new Mac without any of the information on the iphone being erased. Is this possible without having to pay for third party software? I have a WiFi network which both of the computers are connected to. I am also able to use an external harddrive.
I have already transferred the purchases from my account onto the new mac but a lot off my music isnt from the itunes store but is from various CD's.
I am really lost on what to do and I am even considering writing down all my contacts, lol. However, i do have all of my current iPhone info such as contacts and calender sync'd with iCloud if this helps.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Matt

  • Is it possible to manage iTunes/playlists, etc from my iPhone or do I still have to plug and sync?

Can I use my iPhone to make new playlists, take songs off my iphone, add songs on my iphone, using just the iphone with the new IOS5?
or it that part of photography still managed by a physical cord connection with syncing and checking which photos I want on my iPhone?
    Thanks

For iTunes purchased music you might be able to re-download it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes. For music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) then unless you had subscribed to iTunes Match and uploaded it to it from your computer then no, it won't be stored anywhere

  • How do I import all my songs, apps, etc from my old pc to my new iMac?

Had originally copied songs onto a memory stick from old computer (PC), and copied to itunes in my new iMac.  Seemed to work fine but when I went to sync my iphone 4s, it is evident that all my apps etc are still in the other computer.  Is there any way to sync it all over ????

The apple store will do this for you.
You can call apple support and they will help you.
You can type " move itunes library from pc to mac" in the google search bar.

  • How can I restore my 4S to an earlier backup after I transferred the backup file from my old computer to a new one

My case is a little bit complicated:
I had an iPhone, which was backed up with a Windows XP computer.
Then I bought a MacBook Pro, and I transferred the iPhone backup file to the MacBook Pro's corresponding location.
Then I bought a new iPhone, and I plugged the new phone into the MCBK pro.
But iTunes does not tell me how I can restore the new iPhone 4S with the old backup file.
    What can I do?
    Thank you!

If the backup is not listed is Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup>Manage Storage then no other backups exist.

iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device

  • Is there a way of installing/transferring previously bought apps from an old account onto a new account?

    Hi,
On my iPhone I started with an old apple ID and downloaded numerous amounts of free and paid apps over the period of using it. Since then I have now created a new ID, the old apps remain on my device but obviously they are not owned by myself anymore. Is there any service whereby I can install all the old existing apps into my new ID (obviously paying for any that cost), without having to go through each app manually and installing separately?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi TheUsualJack,
Even though you have created a new ID, you still own the apps under the old one (unless it was actually someone else's). To answer your question, no - there is no way to install all of the old exisiting apps under your new ID without doing each one indivdually.
However, you can download them to your iTunes library and then sync them back to your phone. First, I would suggest that you log on to your old ID under Manage your Apple ID, and change the password on your old ID to match the new ID. That way, when one of them needs to be updated, it won't matter which ID is asking for a password, becuase you would put in the same one either way.
    Then:
    1.     Sign onto your iTunes on your computer with your old ID and make sure the ID is authorized to your iTunes Library (Store (on the Menu bar)>Authorize This Computer.
    2.     Then click on the iTunes Store (in the sidebar), and click on App Store.
    3.     Under Quick Links, click on Purchased, iPhone, Not in My Library.
    4.     You will see a little cloud next to each app that is not currently in your library. You can click on the individual cloud, or you can scroll to the bottom to "Download All".
    5.     Once you have downloaded them, you can then hook up your iPhone, and go to the Device Profile Screen for Apps, and select which ones you want on your device.
Once you have done that, you will be able to upgrade them as needed by supplying the common password that you are sharing between both IDs.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
