Transferring large files from BB to PB

Hi everyone,
A user in my network, with his BB Bold connected to our BES Express 5.03, can't transfer files through a bridge connection, from his BB Bold to his Playbook. The playbook will display a message that the file is too big, contact your administrator. The Playbook is not connected to BES, and the phone has no problems at all. Even a 3.0 MB pdf file can't be transfered.
I looked up on KB, but no success.
Any suggestions are very welcome.
Thank you,
tech07

Can he send himself an email with the attached file?
How large is it?

  • Transferring large files from my mac to pc

Hi guys, i'm trying to transfer a large file from my mac to my pc. Its over 7GB and my mac doesnt have a DL dvd burner so that's out of the question. I've tried transferring it over the network however the eta is 2 days which is a little too long. I've tried putting the file on my external HD but when its formatted into mac os extended my laptop does not recognise it and when the drive is formated in ms dos (fat) i am unable to put the file on to the drive (error code 0)
I've run out of ideas what to do so was hoping someone on here could help
    Thanks

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
have a look at this little Windows program http://hem.bredband.net/catacombae/hfsx.html
It enables Windows to read from HFS-formatted (OSX) harddisks.
Might be the easiest and cheapest solution, as others are not free.
MacDrive would be another option, but is not free (but has more features).
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Having trouble transferring large files from SSD startup disk to newly installed internal HDD

Have just installed an additional 2TB Samsung HDD in place of my optical drive on my late-2011 MacBook Pro.
    Specs:
    MacBook Pro 15inch late-2011
      Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
      Number of Processors: 1
      Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
      L3 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 8 GB
      Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B27
    Hard Drives:
      Startup = 120GB SSD
      New HDD = 2TB SATA Samsung M9T
    OS: Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25)
    Issue:
Installed my new 2TB SATA drive and it appeared OK in Finder. I was able to navigate to it and create new folders and move small files into it (under 100MB maybe)
Really want to move my iPhoto library onto the 2TB disk to free up space for Apps on my SSD, but when I try to copy/move it over it only does the first few MB then freezes and appears to timeout as the new HDD disappears from Finder and ejects itself. I'm surprised that the eject stuff shows for an internal HDD but that's a side issue.
Have read about similar issues in other OS versions, especially around external HDD and have tried the following already:
    *  Looked at power management of the hard disks to stop them going to sleep
    *  Have told Spotlight not to index the new HDD to prevent the indexing task causing issues
    *  Both SSD and new HDD are formatted using MAC OS/X Extended (not FAT)
    *  Have tried fixing permissions on both disks as I believe there can be issues in Yosemite
I'm still having a problem  despite trying the above. Struggling!
    Any help much appreciated.

Open Disk Utility. By selecting one of the two entries for the HDD please determine how it is formatted and what partition map it is using. I suspect you did not partition or erase this drive before use. If that's true, then do this:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
Now you can try your file transfers again. However, before you do I recommend you clone your SSD to the HDD so the latter could be used as your boot drive should it be needed. That will also create an Home folder on the HDD with the files you wish to move to it. You can then simply remove those files from the SSD to free up the space.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new HDD. Source means the SSD startup volume.

  • Privileges problem when transferring large files

This just happened, and I don't know what changed. I cannot transfer large files from my Macbook Pro to my MacPro desktop, neither on the network nor by a USB hard drive. I get the infamous "You do not have sufficient privileges" message. The files start copying, and after about 1gb or so, the message pops up. Small files no problem, there's no restriction on those. It does not matter which disk I am trying to copy it to.
I thought it was just a problem with iMovie files and folders (these get big fast), but it seems to be an issue with any large file. I have repaired permissions on both disks, I have made sure that the unlock key is unlocked and that all the boxes are checked "Read & Write".
And this problem just arose today. Nothing has changed, so far as I know.

I assume I am always logged in as administrator because I have never logged in as anything else. It also does not matter from what folder, or even disk drive, I am trying to transfer from. If the file is above a certain size, it stops transferring and I get the error.
What interests me is not that I immediately get the "insufficient privileges" error when I try and transfer a forbidden folder or file. I've seen that. This happens after about a gig of data has transferred over already, then that error pops up.

  • Error code 8084 when copying large files from VNX servers

    Hi,
We are experiencing problems when attempting to copy large files from our central VNX servers (EMC) using the connection format of smb://<host>/.  With Mavericks this will be SMB2, presumably.  Anything over a few MB in size fails with the error:
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8084)
Looking in the Console logs we see the following:
kernel[0]: smb2_smb_read_write_fill: len got reduced, must be running low on credits
If we attempt this on OS X Mountain Lion or below we have no problems.
If, with Mavericks, we connect using the format cifs://<host>/ then file transfers work.
Has anyone come across this before?  Thinking I should also post a bug...
    Cheers,
    Ian

  • Clients Time-Out When Retrieving Large Files  From Our PureFTPd Server

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to get help, but didn't know where else to look. And let me begin by saying I'm not a server admin by trade, but that is the role I've fell into at a design firm. So please bear with my lack of knowledge on some of the more technical details.
We have OS X Server 10.4.11 running here with PureFTPd installed and managed through PureFTPd Manager application. It has been fairly reliable for us for the last 2-3 years once the initial setup craziness was complete.
But lately we've had 2 clients say that they've had difficulty downloading larger files from us. They get a time-out or error message on their end. They are most likely using Windows Explorer on a PC to do the transfer, which has always been the easiest method for our clients.
One client had no problem getting files up to 14MB or so. But when trying to download a certain file that was about 80MB, it would not work. I tried different things here, and she tried multiple times, but no luck. I tried zipping the file to see if that would help, but no luck.
Then another client had a similar problem today with a file that was only 25MB.
We don't send large files very often, so I'm not sure if this is a recent thing or not. It seems like we've received some large files recently though.
In PureFTPd manager, I usually leave all of the fields in the Transfers tab empty for all users. I didn't see anywhere else that would seem to impart a file-size limitation.
    • Any ideas at all?
    • If not, any other forums that I could search for help on? It looks like the developers site for PureFTPd Manager hasn't been updated in a year or two.
    Thanks in advance!

Some years back I had trouble at a customer that had a ADSL using PPPoE connection to their ISP.
Their router/modem (Speedtouch) couldn't cope with the LAN MTU when they sent files out so I had to lower it on their computers (running Panther?) ethernet interface from 1500 to 1492 (PPPoE overhead was 8 byte). The communication used to stall at about 25MB but the MTU change helped resolving that.
My guess is that the router had to fragment (split in two) all outgoing packets it recived from the LAN computers and it just couldn't cope after a while.
In your case it can be other network related things too like maybe needing traffic prioritizing, if receiving a lot of traffic from Internet and trying to send at the same time.

  • If you delete a large file from the mac hard drive does it also remove it from time machine on external hard drive

if you delete a large file from the mac hard drive does it also delete it from time machine on the external hard drive ?

As the others say, no, the backup copy won't be deleted immediately, but it will eventually.
If you want to delete all backups of a selected item, such as for space or security reasons, see #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • How do I move large files from a Windows computer to my MacBook Pro? There are a lot of photos (tiffs

How do I move large files from a Windows computer to my MacBook Pro? There are a lot of photos (tiffs, jpgs, some photoshopped files), iTunes library, word docs. Is there a particular type of external hard drive that can be used or am I limited to copying stuff onto z-drive and moving that way?

If both computers are on the same network, you can share the files from the Windows host using SMB and mount the share on the Mac. Otherwise, the Mac should be able to read (not necessarily write) any storage device formatted in Windows.

I have over 200 hours of HD video on 5 different TB Thunderbolt GRaid hard drives. I need to reorganize my projects, moving large files from one drive to another. Advice?

Do some testing to get your method working right with some less than important footage.
Copy/paste files where you want then.
Use the FCE Reconnect feature to tell FCE where the newly copied files reside.
Make sure the new location and files are working as expected with your Projects.
Delete the original files if no longer required.

Trying to download photos from IPHONE, IPAD to IPHOTO in IMAC after installing new hard drive.
How did you import the photos to iPad and iPhone?
If the photos have been synced to the iPhone and iPad using iTunes, you cannot sync them back.
    See this document:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
If your photos are not in the Camera Roll on your devices, save them to the Camera Roll, share them to the Photo Stream, mail the photos, or, if you have iPhoto on the devices, use iTunes Photo Sharing.
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnkee26bc1
Save photos to your computer using iTunes
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Tap a photo, album, event, web journal, or slideshow and tap Share> iTunes.
Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save (if you are saving a slideshow skip to step 4):
Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap one or more photos, and tap Next.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
In iTunes, click the button for your device and click Apps at the top of the window.
Below File Sharing, select iPhoto (in Apps).
Select the Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents.
Click Save To and select the location on your computer where you want to save the items.
To view your photos, go to the Finder and look in the location you selected above.

  • I transferred PPT files from a windows based pc (microsoft PPT 2003), at first my macbook was able to run all animations in file, after some time it stopped running it, partly because i "switched on" something since this is my first time to use a mac ?

i transferred PPT files from a windows based laptop to my macbook, at first it was able to run the animations in the file no problem, its my first time to use a mac also bythe way, so i started downloading freebies like the VLC, FLIP4MAC, and other plug-in players, would it be because of this downloads that my mac now cannot seem to run the powerpoint animations any more ?

I don't think vlc would affect powerpoint.  What were those "other plug-in players" you downloaded?
I'm not that familiar with powerpoint so how are those animations played?  Are they windows media player files?  If so then flip4mac might affect them.

  • HT2518 If I am transfering my files from pc to mac, do I need to make sure the appropriate programs are already installed on the mac before or after the migration?

FCP doesn't like mpeg2 transport streams. You might give ClipWrap a chance to do the conversion. They have a free trial. If it works, the full version is something like $50.
    Good luck

They maybe corrupt, try transferring again from the g4. If iTunes is giving you an error then you need to authorize your computer with the same iTunes account as previously. Also, you could try exporting your iTunes library via iTunes on the g4.
