  • Transferring itunes from desktop yo laptop using usb stick?

I am currently trying to move my itunes music from desktop to laptop using usb stick, i can get the music onto the usb stick from my desktop then try to cut and paste it to itunes music folder but it dosent show up in itunes itself, what am i doing wrong?

Paste it into another location on the laptop, and then drag it from there into the open iTunes window. iTunes uses a database to determine what's in the library instead of looking at the content of the iTunes Music folder.

  • How do I move PSE 9 from desktop to laptop after I install new PSE11?

Just received PSE 11,  want it on my desktop and then move PSE 9 from desktop to laptop?  It there a sequence that will prevent problems?

First make a full backup in PSE 9 using the organizer's backup command, then install PSE 9 on the laptop and restore the backup there. If all is well, you can then deactivate PSE 9 on the desktop if you don't want it there anymore (not required, unless you've already installed it on a third computer). When you install PSE 11 it should find and update your catalog on that for you.
If you don't use organizer, it doesn't really matter how you do it.

  • Transferring Lightroom 4 from Hard Drive to Computer

When I initially downloaded Lightroom 4 my desktop could not handle the amount of space the program/library took up so I began running Lightroom from an external hard drive. However, I now have a laptop that can handle running Lightroom.
Upon trying to copy/paste all of the Lightroom files from the external hard drive onto my laptop, my Lightroom library now says that all of the photos are "missing".
Ideally, I'd like to have my Lightroom software and library running from my laptop because I am in need of a larger external hard drive to hold all of my exported photos.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  • Moving iWeb from desktop to laptop

I need to transition iWeb from my desktop iMac to my Macbook as I'm hitting the road for a few months. Ideally I'd like to be able to open a synced version of iWeb on both machines that let me use either to access and update the same website...
But for now, I just want to drag the right files over to my laptop so I can open iWeb and hit the ground running. Anyone have the right answer? Thanks.

If you have a .Mac account you can place the Domain file on your iDisk. When you wanna work with your web site you just open your iDisk and double click on the file. This way you can work on both your desktop and laptop with the site and you don't risk to lose your thumbdrive with the file in it.

  • Moving library from desktop to laptop

I have i-Tunes 7 on both my desktop and laptop; but my main library is on my desktop. I want to be able to move my library from the desktop pc to the laptop, INCLUDING playlists etc. I don't mind replacing the laptop library with the desktop library, as I can then re-import the tunes that were on the laptop library into it. Can you tell me how best to do this? I have a Lacie external hard drive with which to carry out the move (no DVD burner).
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

  • Move library from desktop to laptop

Trying to move iTunes library from desktop to new laptop so I can sync to my new ITouch

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your second computer is to network it with the first one and copy your iTunes folder across. Start by consolidating your library. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Windows user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the first computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the second computer.
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • Directions on how to copy files directly from desktop to laptop

Just bought a new Mac Book Pro. I would like to copy only select files from my desktop to laptop. Can I hook the two together via firewire and just copy them or do I need to go the ethernet route and file sharing etc. If ethernet route, is it slow or fast?
    Thanks.
P.S. I don't want to use migration assistant and copy all settings etc. The laptop is for son going off to college and he wants it "clean".

Data such as music will copy perfectly by Drag & Drop. Just slide the items onto the target, 'hover' over folders if you want them to open, and then 'drop', i.e. release the mouse button. If that 'spring open' action is new to you it might take a few goes to end up in the right place; at any time you can move the mouse cursor up into the menubar and release the button – nothing will be copied, and you can try again.
OR you can drop anywhere and tidy up afterwards.

  • Transferring Lightroom Edits from Laptop to Desktop?

On a recent vacation I loaded and edited over 1500 photos in Lightroom 2.0 on an Apple Macbook Pro laptop. I would like to transfer the edited photos to my desktop imac which also has Lightroom 2.0 installed. How can I best transfer the files from the laptop to the desktop while maintaining the ability to selectively modify the individual edit steps such as cropping and tone adjustments. I appreciate that I could export the edited files as jpegs or TIFFs but this would preclude the ability to go back and change earlier edit steps. Thanks for your suggestions.

An easy way would be to export your images as a new catalog. That copies all images, their previews and adjustments to a new location. If you connect your Macs either via Wireless, Ethernet or Firewire you can copy straight across to a destination folder on the iMac.
Otherwise you could also use an external hard disk.
To do so, go to   File  >> Export as Catalog…  In the dialog box that comes up select a destination folder, name your catalog and make sure to check "Export negative files" and "Include available previews" and proceed with the export. Depending on the amount of images, that could take a while.
Once it's complete, simply open the newly created LR catalog file on the iMac. If you already have a LR catalog on the iMac, you probably want to merge both catalogs. That can be achieved by opening the existing catalog on your iMac first, and then go to  File  >>  Import from Catalog. Select the previously exported catalog and click OK.
However if you want to go back and forth in the future between the laptop and iMac while maintaining identical LR catalogs and -libraries on both, you might want to use a different approach.
I for instance synchronise my libraries between two Macs using a portable hard disk, which is an exact mirror image of the drive that holds all my work files (not just LR's image library).

  • How do I access my CC files using Lightroom 5 so that I can edit photos from desktop or laptop

Very frustrated. I am not sure if this is a question about 'syncing' (since it's apparently not available to everyone - though this wasn't mentioned when they sold me on their subscription), about 'work flow' (what ever that means), 'catalogs', 'libraries', 'collections', 'folders", 'importing' or 'exporting'.
All I want to do it to be able to move from my desktop in one room to my laptop in another (or on the road) and be able to open up and edit the same group of photos that I managed earlier to upload into files on the <files> section of the CC panel. I watched a vdeo about 'syncing' using CC for Photoshop but I think this is for presets. Which begs the question, can you do the same for lightroom 5 presets?
In looking at my screen with the CC panel on it and clicking on <Files> so that I am sure I am typing about the correct features, I now see that the 3 file folders of photos I dragged and dropped into it earlier today is now missing my files and is displaying a message that says "Coming Soon: Creative Cloud will sync files between the cloud and your desktop". Where did my files go?
Now I am even more frustrated.
    My questions are now:
    1) How do I access the cloud, where my files should be, when using only Lightroom?
    2) Do I have to import photos into Lightroom on one of my 2 computers first, then transfer them to the cloud, before I can also access them on the other machine?
I am not sure if this information matters, but I switch between a desktop and a laptop throughout the week. Both are Windows. I also use an external harddrive to store my photos on. It would be nice if I didn't have to unplug the damn thing and carry it with me from location to location.
    Thanks in advance.

So, in short, is there a simple way , without opening iphoto, to do a logical path such as HD, pictures, iphoto, iphoto library and then BAM! just see all my files?
    In short - no.
If you are using iPhoto to manage your photos for you, use iPhoto to retrieve  them.
There are many user-friendy ways to access photos in iPhoto, but if you simply want a set of nested folders with photos, don't import your photos to iPhoto.

  • Possible to combine purchased book files from desktop and laptop?

When my original Win 7 computer started having problems, I consolidated all the iTunes files (music, books, video) on that computer and stored the backup on a thumb drive per instructions on the Apple support site, with the idea of putting them on a new Win 7 computer at some point. But for right now, I'd like to consolidate the files from the old Win 7 to my laptop, as that will be my main repository of iTunes files -- books, music and video -- until I get a new Win 7 computer set up. However, I had also purchased some other books which were saved on my laptop; thus I'd like to combine the files. Before combining, I'd like to be able to transfer the new books from the laptop to my iPad (which was paired with the old Win7, which has now been deactivated). I'd like to do this without losing any of the 200+ books already on the iPad, Of course, at some point, I'd like to sync the music that was saved on the Win 7 computer to the iPad, which thus far has been used primarily for reading and playing games. This will be done once the files are safely ensconced on my laptop.  Above all, I don't want to lose anything from the old desktop, from iTunes on the laptop, or from the iPad in this process.  Can anyone explain to me how I might accomplish this? This process is so foreign to those of us who are well and truly accustomed to transferring and merging files in Windows and I am quite paranoid about losing any data. Thank you for any and all guidance you can offer!

Should I upgrade the iMac, convert the catalog, back it up, then install LR 3 on the laptop and move the photos and restore the catalog, or should I just back up the 1.x catalog and move everything to the laptop and convert it there?
Basically you can go either way. I would do the upgrade of the catalog on the iMac, so there will be no need to install LR1 on the laptop. You'd still need to enter the LR1 serial no. (besides the LR3 serial no.) on the laptop after installation of LR3.4 though.
Also, what's the best way to move everything to the laptop?  I have an external drive that is probably big enough for all the files.
You might want to have a look at Victoria Bamptons Blog Post about the subject. Don't forget to also copy presets, plugins and possible ACR defaults to the new computer.

  • How to transfer iTunes from Desktop to Laptop

I have iTunes running on my desktop and Mediamonkey running on my laptop. I want to transfer my iTunes folder onto my laptop so I can import my tracks into Mediamonkey as most of my music is now being stored on it. I do not want to use iTunes on my laptop. How do I transfer my iTunes without losing the information?
      Windows XP
      Windows XP

You need to install iTunes on your laptop.
    Then drag the iTunes folder:
    My Documents\My Music\iTunes
to another location eg the laptop's desktop.
Then copy the iTunes folder from My Music on the desktop computer to the My Music folder on the laptop.
This could be done via an external drive, your iPod or network.
This Apple article gives the procedure using your iPod:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
But the method is essentially the same however you transfer the iTunes folder.

  • Tried to import iTunes library from desktop to laptop via Homesharing but everything didn't import.  How do I get missing content?

The whole story: I tried to transfer my iTunes library via Homeshare from my desktop to my laptop but not all of my library imported.  Both computers are authorized and almost all of the 99GB of music was imported from my own cds. I couldn't tell what was missing and I figured a computer person would have an easy way to figure this out.  In the meantime, I added about 20-25 more cds to the library on the laptop.  I had a computer guy come out because I wanted to merge the two libraries so I can get rid of the desktop.  He dragged and dropped several folders onto the external hard drive and then dragged and dropped those into my music folder on the laptop.  Now I have a big mess!  I have tons of duplicates, but the entire library didn't duplicate so I am still not sure if all of my music made it over. He wants to delete all of the duplicates but I explained that I don't want to break up albums and I had already gone through the process of finding "exact duplicates" and deleting those on the desktop before I started all of this.  I talked to a Geek Squad guy at Best Buy who suggested I delete everthing from the laptop and start over.  He wants me to open iTunes on my desktop and select all, then drag that to a new folder on the external hard drive.  Then reinstall iTunes on the laptop and drag and drop that folder into it. I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Please know that I am not very computer literate so please type slowly so that I will understand ;-)  Thanks
Sidenote:  I did sign up for IMatch and had Apple scan both libraries.  Not all of my music showed up there either.  I am missing entire albums, etc. and I have not reached the maximum limit, 25,0000 songs. Should I purchase TuneUp Media to fix any metadata once I get my complete library onto my laptop?  I just want my entire library together, in one place so that I can move forward and back it up properly. Thanks for any help.

Delete whatever was imported to the new computer via HomeSharing.
Stop using HomeSharing to move content.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
    Launch iTunes.
Everything in iTunes on the new computer will be exactly as it was on the old computer.

  • Using external hard drive - moving music from desktop to laptop

I wish to use an external hard drive to move my library from my desktop to my laptop. However, I do not wish to load the library onto my laptop, I would like to keep the library stored on the external hard drive. Here is what I have done so far:
    - I followed the directions on this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364
    - I downloaded the current version of iTunes onto my laptop and authorized this computer.
    - I connected the external hard drive to my laptop and turned it on. I opened iTunes > Edit > Preferences > Advanced and change the music folder location to the folder location on the external hard drive.
None of my library has shown up in iTunes. I am positive that the library is on the external hard drive.
What have I missed or what do I need to do to resolve this issue and run iTunes through the external hard drive on my laptop?
Thank you so much for you help!

*Of course I am slightly confused by a few of the folders.....iTunes Library Extras, iTunes Library Genius, iTunes Library*
None of those are folders, they are files. The iTunes Library is the main database file that contains the information on what you have added to you library, songs, locations, playlists etc: What are the iTunes library files?
*There are still other files I am not sure about. They are:, Temp File.tmp 13.0MB, Temp File 6.00MB, Previous iTunes Libraries 75.9MB, iTunes Music (larger than 6.23GB), iTunes Music Library 20.9MB, (XML Document), Album Artwork 212MB*
Apart from the ones obviously labelled File, the rest of these are folders
Temp Files (no idea what they are temporary files of but they were created by Windows)
Previous iTunes Libraries (a folder of libraries created by earlier versions of iTunes, can be used to roll back a version of iTunes when a particular new installation doesn't work)
iTunes Music (the folder that your music and other media files, songs movies etc. are kept in)
iTunes Music LIbrary.xml (a file that contains some of the information contained in the main library file and is used by other programs which interface with iTunes)
Album Artwork (a folder that contains artwork downloaded from the iTunes Store)
You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
