Transferring movie rentals/purchases to other devices

I just downloaded my first movie rental to my iMac. I think I can transfer it to my Macbook, iPod, iPhone, etc. And I believe it can only reside on one device at a time. I just can't figure out how to transfer it. Is it possible? Thanks, and would this apply to rentals as well as purchases? Thanks!

this has worked for some rentals:
connect your device to your computer.
In iTunes, select your device (below Devices):
Click the Movies or TV Shows tab, depending upon the item you rented.
Select the rented item.
Click Move. After you transfer a rental, it’s removed from your iTunes library.
Some movies and TV episodes in the iTunes Store are available for rental in HD-quality format. HD rentals can only be transferred from your computer to iOS devices capable of viewing HD content. If you rent an HD movie with an Apple TV, you can’t transfer it to another computer or device.
A rented item expires 30 days after you rent it or 24 hours after you begin playing it, whichever comes first. Expired rentals are deleted automatically.
Note:  These terms apply to U.S. rentals. Rental terms vary among countries.

  • Do Movie Rentals appear to other devices in the 'Purchased Tab'

I recently bought Resident Evil Retribution as a HD Movie rental on my Windows PC in iTunes, I wanted to however download and watch on my iPad2
    or other iOS Device
Strangely the movie does not appear in any purchased tabs on my:
    iPhone4
    Windows Laptop iTunes
    iPad2
Do Rentals count as a Purchase and can I watch rentals on another iOS device?

Hi crystallynn04 - welcome to the forum!
I think you would be best to convert your movie to a Full Quality QuickTime file, that should then play on other machines, so long as they have QT installed, presumably then also being importable to iMovie 08 if needs be.

  • Transferring movies from iTunes to other devices

I purchased two movies from iTunes from my iPad and when I load iTunes on my PC (windows xp) I can see them in my library but I cannot transfer them to any devices such as iPod. It says there is not enough space or something, does this have anything to do with iCloud? How can I get these movies to my iPod?

Nothng at all to do with iCloud.
    Delete items from your iPod.

  • HT1386 I am unable to sync and move iTunes purchases to my devices wirelessly...

Hello, so I am unable to sync and move iTunes purchases to my devices wirelessly. I accidentally ended all the apple processes on windows 8 Task Manager, is there any way to reverse this. I uninstalled iTunes then re installed it and it still will not work. I really hate myself for doing this... Anyways, if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank-you so much!

  • ITunes HD movie rentals/purchases don't play in QuickTime player

I am trying to play HD movie rentals/purchases in QuickTime player. Although I can play them without problems in iTunes, opening the movie file in QuickTime player only gives me a grey screen and no sound. The "grey screen" issue occurs several times in the community, but for my case I haven't found any solution so far. I am using Windows 7 (64-bit), and I have all the latest versions of iTunes and QuickTime Player (free version) installed. I appreciate any suggestions for help.

i can open the files in VLC, and when i spress the space bar, the preview window plays the file. It also plays the file when i click on it once, then press the play button on the file itself.
that tells me, the needed codecs are already on the system.
m4v is a container format for iTunes and contains mostly two streams. One video H264, one sound mp4
Check handbrake for its sound settings.
Try to rename the movie into kids playing.mp4 and check if Quicktime will open it.
    Quicktime is a crap.
    By the way...
    What OS X ?
    What version of Quicktime?
Generally ... if VLC, iTunes, FrontRow is available and plays the movies, why want to play it in Quicktime?

  • Transferring movie rentals from AppleTV to other devices?

Has anybody been able to find a workaround for this issue?  The other night I was watching a movie that I rented on my AppleTV, and during the middle of it I wanted to start watching on my iPad.  I quickly found that this is much easier said then done. I did some research online and found this article: http://www.macworld.com/article/153224/2010/08/itunes_movie_rentals.html
If what it says is accurate (I think that it might be), then it means that I can’t transfer rentals from one device to any other device.  This is completely ridiculous; if I were to go to Redbox or Blockbuster and rent a DVD I would be able to watch that movie on any device that would play it during the time I rented the movie.  This should be the same for rentals on my Apple devices.  I understand that the MPAA has its hands in this and they are trying to make it difficult for people to get around their 24 hour viewing constraints.  I should however be able to move the rental from one device to another without the hang up of being stuck on the device I initially rented on.  It seems like this is a no brainer, if I paid money for the movie and I am just trying to watch it, I should be able to do that however I want.
    Thanks for the rant!

It makes no sense at all, but if you rent on AppleTV1/2 you cannot transfer the rental to itunes/iPod etc whereas an itunes rental can be moved from one device to another or played on AppleTV2 via Home Sharing.
Illogical in the extreme but perhaps related to movie rights issues not Apple being daft - some HD rental  content is only available on iPad and AppleTV for some reason, so maybe it's to stop you watching on devices you'd not normally be able to.
    Still makes no sense.

  • Movie Rentals / Purchased TV Shows no longer play on iTunes

Playing movie rentals and purchased TV shows have been working just fine on iTunes until a few days ago when I attempted to watch a movie rental, a pop-up warning came on and I pressed OK too quickly to fully read it. It said something about being incompatible. Unfortunately, since the error, I'm unable to watch the movie or any of the purchased TV shows on my MacBook Pro. All I get is a black screen with nothing happening after repeatedly pressing the Play button. I've tried to delete and re-download the TV shows, and iTunes Support has had me delete the movie and TV shows and re-download them. Still getting the black screen. Can anyone help??

The lack of a purchase date, although I am not quite sure why it happens, does not in itself prevent the track from being authorized and played.  However, since the account name is correct and they have disappeared from your purchase history, something may have been corrupted.
Unless someone here has a better idea,  you should take it up with iTunes Customer Service.

  • I have just bought a Macbook Pro and need to know how I transfer songs, films etc purchased on other devices to my new device. Can anyone help?

    Hi all,
How do I transfer items bought on other devices (mainly my iPad) to my new MacBook Pro?

  • Cannot access purchase on other devices

I recently purchased an album on iTunes, but I cannot download it on other devices associated with my apple id. I have checked and verified all of my devices are set up to receive automatic downloads. I have also gone in to the section of iTunes store where "check for available downloads" is, and I keep getting "all purchases have been download to this apple ID." I do not even see the album in the purchases section of my iTunes library on my other devices, it is only available on the original device I purchased it on. If I look in my account settings on all of my associated devices, the invoice is there that shows I bought it, and I don't even have the option to purchase it again. On my other devices on iTunes the songs and album are greyed out "purchased". All of my devices are all on the same version of iTunes as well

Same boat.  I am a little tired of seeing several shows in the TV Show "Purchased" part of the Apple TV.  I always run into some free shows I got, cause they were free or stuff like that, the shows turned out to be terrible and now I have to be reminded of them every time I want to watch anything else.  They really do need to find a way to manage it.  You should be able to remove it and sign a thing saying "yes I understand I can never download this again...bla bla"
    Maybe just ask Tim Cook

  • Movie rental purchase not downloading

Nothing is happening. It just says preparing to download but it's been about two hours now with no movement. What gives? This isn't my first time (I'm actually an apple developer), so I know it's really an iTunes issue and not a user issue. Is iTunes down or is there a glitch happening?

my rental  is not dnowlouding sicne 3 am but will exp at 11.32 pm

  • Itunes won't let me download my song purchased on other device

I downloaded a song on my ipad and now I can't get it on my imac. It gives me this message -
You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 74 days.
I am on my same account and find it crazy I can't get all my songs back on my computer without waiting for 3 months!!
    Please help

Try this and see if it works. Select the song, under the Advance menu item (ok I am using version 6 under Mac OS, but might be the same for you), pick "Convert ID3 Tags..."
Click on the box to change the "ID3 tag version" and try a different version. "None" is probably the best bet. Then exit and try to edit the stuff again, play the track and see if the info now sticks.

  • HT1657 Movie Rentals / Purchases

Can you rent a movie and if you like it pay the difference and buy it?

No, there is not currently a 'trade-up' option, if you rent and then decide to buy it, you will pay the full price.

  • Transferring Movie Rentals from iTunes to Apple TV

I bought Apple TV (40gb) yesterday and have tried to transfer 3 rented movies over to it from my iTunes but everytime I try to copy them over i get an error! It says that Apple TV could not connect to the iTunes Store even though it is connected as I have downloaded two films from it already.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Have you checked to see if itms is actually available for the tv, sometimes I get a similar message but a while later all is well. if you are sure the store is available, I think perhaps sometimes the messages thrown up by the tv can be a little misleading, it may well be that there is another issue which is causing this message. Are you able to stream from your itunes library, have you tried reauthorising your account.

  • Transferring In-App Purchase to New Device with Another Account

I loaned my mother my old iPad for a while so she could play bridge. I bought her, in-app (i.e. via Mac App Store) a year's worth of "Fun Bridge" credits on my account.
The iPad died, so she bought a new one herself, and set it up with her own Apple account. Obviously, she can't access her Fun Bridge credits.
What's the thing to do in this situation? I'd rather her iPad didn't use my account...better for her to have her own. But I have $99 sunk into those darned credits....

False alarm. Turns out the credits were bought directly from fun bridge, not via mac app store (is that even allowed?). So it was merely a matter of signing my mom in via the app. She can play bridge again. The world is saved!
