Transferring movie to tape

I have just created the most basic kind of timeline, using iMovie 3.3, in order to have a NTSC worktape which will transferred to PAL format. The total length of the movie is about 30 minutes. Rather than using a camera to record the movie, I'm using a Sony DV deck. Around 10 minutes into the movie transfer the video began to briefly pause for a moment then resume. Around 20 minutes into the transfer it paused and did not resume, though the deck continued to record the frame on which the movie paused. Can anyone help me figure out why this happened, and what I need to do differently? It would be much appreciated.
iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

There may be a more elegant solution and explanation, but if you just want to have a working tape, export your movie to QuickTime Full Quality. Save that, and then open a new iMovie project and import that new QT movie into it. It may take a while for all of this, but you will then have an exact copy of your movie in QT version. Export this movie to the tape. It should go well without any pausing or stopping.
I can't remember with v3 if you can do it this way, but it has worked for me in v4 and 5. I don't have 6.

  • Transferring movies from iPad2 to Mac

I am transferring movies purchased fromn iTunes on my iPad2 to my MAC computer using a USB connection. I used the "Transfer from Devices" option under the "File" option in iTunes to make the transfer.  However, each movie is taking more than 12 hours to transfer and sometimes up to 20 hours. This can't be right. Can anyone let me if this is indeed normal or if there is something I am doing wrong or can do to increase the speed of the transfer.
    Many thanks
    Martin

Depending on which iTS you purchased from - go to the iTS main page - From the Quicklinks section - select Purchased - then select Movies. You can re-d/l some movies from the Cloud depending upon the movie/iTS you purchsed through.

  • Transferring hi 8 tapes to computer.....

complete idiot here so bear with me...have loads of hi 8 tapes that i would like to put on my i mac G5...is there any way to do this? thank you

Hey the stupid ones are those that don't ask and sit at home not getting the best out of their equipment.
Your cameras manual may help, otherwise look for an AV in or AV in/out connector. depending on your camera you may have to do different things. It may just work whatever you do, you may have to record to the mini DV tape and then transfer it to your mac in a separate operation or you may need to take the tape out altogether.
Sorry to be so vague, I transferred my VHS tapes to my mac years ago (just not got round to editing them all yet.

  • Transferring movies from dvd or high8 tapes

Here is what I want to do:
I want to make a DVD with a slide show (from picures in iPhoto) and then also have some movie clips that I took years ago of my dog .
The original movies are on high8 tapes but play in my sonydigital camcorder.
I have successfully transfered from theses into imovie before.
Or is there a way to actually get those movies off of a DVD ( I burned those over from the high 8 into our separate DVD burner with no edits...I got lazy)
I think I am answering my own question but I believe the camcorder/high8 tape would be the best solution. ??
Also, some of the movies are bad...like for instance we had the backlight on in one of them and they are REALLY BRIGHT, my white dog looks like he is GLOWING!!! Is there some way to fix that kind of thing?
THANKS! for any help, my 13 year old buddy died 2 weeks ago and this I guess is my grieving process! Laura

Download and use either HandBrake or MPEG Streamclip (..more details here..) ..Just click on those blue links to download the software.
They look a bit fiddlier than Apple's own programs like iMovie, but they'll do the conversion from DVD-to-iMovie. You can then "..do some editing on imac or ???.."
Also, be sure to read Dan's encyclopaedic "Unofficial iMovie FAQ" here!

  • Transfering VHS-C tapes to FCE

I am transfering home movies from VHS-C tapes (the small tapes that are fatter than miniDV, that you have to place into a VHS tape adapter) into FCE 4.0. I have to use a VCR and am running that through a DV converter which runs into my external HD by means of firewire. I have easy setup set to DV converter box, but when I am done capturing, I get the error message that the audio might be out of synch due to inproper settings, that's not verbatim but the jests of the message. Since there is only one DV box setting, how do I get the correct setting?

The DV-NTSC DV Converter easy setup expects 48KHz audio. I suspect your converter box may be set for 32KHz audio - you should check it. BTW, what make/model is it?
First check Item Properties for one of the clip(s) you captured - what does it say for Aud rate?
If your clips really are 32KHz audio, you could try creating a new sequence, then before doing anything with it, click on the +sequence name+ in the FCE browser, select Settings, then click +Load Sequence Presets+ and select +DV-NTSC 32Khz.+ Then go ahead with your editing.
One other thing, you really should have the converter box connected directly to your Mac, no other Firewire device connected at the same time. With a daisychained setup, you may run into capture problems, and actually the audio sync message you got may have been caused by the daisychained devices.

  • Best way to convert home movie VHS tapes so they can be edited in iMovie HD

Please help! I'm sorry this question is going to be long, but I'm a novice at this.
My goal is to get my VHS home movies (I have about 30 of them) into iMovie so I can do two things.
First I want to burn DVD's so I'll have a copy of the VHS tapes before they go bad.
Secondly, I want to be able to extract small clips from all of the tapes and combine them in a new iMovie project.
Here's what I've done so far:
I purchased a Canopus ADVC110 and got someof my VHS tapes converted digitally but the file sizes were HUGE and eating up my hard drive space. I was down to 6 GB of space left on my hard drive and almost crashed my Mac.
I deleted all these huge files and got my Mac back up to having 111 gigs of space left. Whew!
This week I purchased a Pinnacle converter and started all over. I took a VHS tape, and it was compressed into a nice small Mpeg-4 file and went to iTunes.
Then I tried to drag and drop it from itunes to imovie. That didn't work. I then dragged the movie to my desktop and then dragged it to imovie..... looks like this was going to take a long time to get into imovie. I'm thinking this is too many steps.
Now I am importing the file into iMovie by importing directly from itunes. The file size is 1.04 GB and it is 1 hour and 54 minutes long. It is taking a loooong time to import this movie....like 100 minutes.
I am afraid I am doing this the hard way.
Plus, after reading all the discussion boards and all the problems people are having... I don't even know if I'll be able to successfully edit this movie once it's imported. Plus, after I've edited it (if I can) will I be able to transfer the clips to another iMovie project?
I'm happy with the file size that the Pinnacle converter is giving me. I'm happy with the way the movie appears in itunes.
Because I have **so many VHS tapes** to convert, I'm asking you all if there is an easier way for me to complete this task!
Thanks in advance for any advise. Keep in mind that I'm not tech-sophisticated..... just a middle aged Grandma trying to preserve memories of my family!

    _Share" the highlight as suggested_
Thanks Lennart..... I'm not sure I know what you meant by the above.
Do you mean that I share the little clips I want to use in the 'best of project'?
I read the MacWorld article.... it's great thanks!
I want to keep all these converted movies on my hard drive because down the road I want to extract other clips from them so I can make a 'best of' movie for my other family members. I may want to do that next year.... or whatever..... so I want to have the imovies available for me when that time comes.
In order to do this am I going to have to buy a lot..... and I mean ALOT of extra hard drive space? That darn Canopus was really making files for me that were like 60-80GB's per one half hour movie!!
Hey, I really appreciate all the time you are spending with me on this topic. Making these imovie memories are so very important to me.

  • Have a download error, movie.I tap and it tries to process but ends as error. How do I get rid of this?

I Downlaoded a movie. However, it never completed. Says download error. If it tap, it processes then immediately stops and states download error. What can I do to remove this download

  • Transferring movie rentals/purchases to other devices

I just downloaded my first movie rental to my iMac. I think I can transfer it to my Macbook, iPod, iPhone, etc. And I believe it can only reside on one device at a time. I just can't figure out how to transfer it. Is it possible? Thanks, and would this apply to rentals as well as purchases? Thanks!

this has worked for some rentals:
connect your device to your computer.
In iTunes, select your device (below Devices):
Click the Movies or TV Shows tab, depending upon the item you rented.
    Select the rented item.
Click Move. After you transfer a rental, it’s removed from your iTunes library.
Some movies and TV episodes in the iTunes Store are available for rental in HD-quality format. HD rentals can only be transferred from your computer to iOS devices capable of viewing HD content. If you rent an HD movie with an Apple TV, you can’t transfer it to another computer or device.
A rented item expires 30 days after you rent it or 24 hours after you begin playing it, whichever comes first. Expired rentals are deleted automatically.
Note:  These terms apply to U.S. rentals. Rental terms vary among countries.

  • ITunes store for iPad won't display the movies / tvshow taps

My iPad iTunes store will not display the (movies , tv show, music) taps at the end of the screen.

    Howard-
Could you have used a different computer to do the initial setup of your iPad?  If so, the other computer's Apple ID may be what the iTunes store is looking for.
To get around that, you may need to connect to your computer that has the correct ID and restore from iTunes.  In the worst case, you might need to reset the iPad to factory settings by erasing all data, and then set it up as new.

  • Problem transferring movies to iPad2

Transferring my files to my new iPad2, I have some movies (digital copy from DVD purchases) that will not transfer. I get the message that my computer is not authorized to play these files (but it IS authorized). I have deauthorized the computer, selected one of the problem movies, authorized the computer when prompted and it still says computer not authorized. The files were all downloaded through the iTunes Store, on my account on this computer. I had not put them on my previous iPad due to storage constrictions.
EDIT: I have tried syncing the movies, and I've tried manually moving them Same result each time.

It would be considered proper forum etiquette for you to post your solution since it might be helpful to others in the future.

  • Problem transfering movies

i'm trying to transfer movies to my friends ipod, but it's not letting me. these are movies that i own and have transfered into ipod format. i have the 160gig and my friend has the 30 gig.....in case this matters. is there a setting i need to change? can anyone give me some troubleshooting tips?
    thanks

Try the Videora iPod converter from http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
You can't use the H.264 settings because the iPod doesn't like the non-Quicktime codec, but the highest quality mpeg4 profile works like a charm.

  • Transfering movies from ATV to new Computer

I have the original ATV (actually 2 of them) and recently lost everything on my main PC that normally hosts my libraries.  I was able to recover a number of my lost files however I do have some purchased Movies on the ATV's that are not on my PC now.
When i go to synch the ATV's to the new iTunes library on my PC i get a warning that indicates everythign will be erased from the ATV.  Does this mean that I'll lose the movies that do not exist on the PC, or will it synch them up?
or is there some other action i need to take to save the moveis and ensure they dont get erased from the ATV's?

Movies that have been purchased on the Apple TV will normally transfer to iTunes, if they haven't they won't be erased when you sync with your new library. If however they have been transferred and are now on the Apple TV as a result of being synced back from your previous library they will be erased when you sync with a new library.

  • Transferring movie from old crashed computer to new computer

Okay, my old computer crashed and signs me on to a temporary profile due to numerous hardware and OS problems which are irrelevant. I cannot access my old settings and every time I log off, my settings are reset to default and I have to re-setup iTunes, so my library is not saved. I still have all of my purchased music and movies, and I want to transfer them to my new computer and iTunes library. I have copied all of my music not purchased from iTunes, and all that is left is a movie purchased off of iTunes. When I transferred it to my new computer, iTunes told me it cannot copy it to my iPod...says I need to de-authorize my old computer I believe?

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but if your old hard drive in fact failed, requiring its replacement, unless you have a separate backup, other than using a data recovery service, your data is gone.
