Transferring music between accounts.

For the last year my girlfriend has shared my iPod. She has probably 50 or so songs she has purchased through iTunes on my iPod. For her birthday I bought her her own iPod and was wondering if there is anyway to transfer her music to her account. Its $50 and I dont want that music on my iPod anymore. Id it possible?

    Hi
Is it possible to share Itunes music library between three accounts on same computer so if my wife logs into her account she can see my music library

Note that when it says "publicly accessible location", it needs to be a place where everyone has read and write access. The most common such place is the Shared folder in the Users folder, but you can place the music elsewhere if you change the access permissions manually (don't start tinkering with permissions unless you're confident you know what you're doing and can reverse things if they get messed up).

    Hi,
Following a recommendation by a BT advisor I took out a separate account in order to cater for an overlap when moving properties.   The time when one of my accounts is being closed (tomorrow) 26 Feb (Wed) but I now find there is no easy way to transfer email between accounts.    Reading posts on this forum, I see that Moderators can organize this.  On the posts it refers to clicking on sending message to moderator but I cannot find such a link!

  • Sharing iTunes Music between accounts in Front Row

I have two accounts set on my computer. The primary account shares it's iTunes library with the secondary one. The shared music works fine inside of iTunes but when when I attempt to find the shared music on the secondary account via Front Row it states that it cannot find Shared Music. Does Front Row not have access to the shared music on other accounts on the same computer?
All my apps have the most resent updates.

I have the same problem. I think Cory made an assumption in his reply, that there is music in the library of the secondary accounts iTunes. My Secondary Account has no music at all in the iTunes library. In iTunes for the Secondary Account there are two sources of shared music available in the shared music folder, both play fine from iTunes. The first source is shared music from my primary accounts iTunes library, the second source is from the library of an XP based machine on my network.
When accessing shared music from Front Row logged in on the secondary account, the music shared from the XP machine is available as listed and named in iTunes, the music shared from the primary accounts iTunes library is not available.

  • Transferring music between iPods

I have a 3G that is getting full. I want to get a 6G and move everything. 40 minutes on web site yielded no answer and no place to email a question. Can I transfer from one iPod to another? How?

    Hello tecolata,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There is no direct way to make this happen. However, if the music you have on your current iPod is still located in your iTunes library, simply hook up the new iPod and syn away. There is no limit to the number of iPods you can have syned to one iTunes library, account, or computer.
If the music is only on your current iPod, you will need to copy it to a computer first and import it into iTunes. Once you have done this, you can sync all of it to the new iPod. Check out this comprehensive thread from Zevoneer on different ways to copy music to your computer from your iPod.

  • Question on Transfering Music Between Computers

I have read the article on using the iPod as a harddrive and transferring to a new computer...but there's still a couple things I'm not clear about.
    1. If I wanted to tranfer my iTunes library to a new computer, I would first transfer all the music to my iPod, then, in the new computer, make sure Syncing is off, and then simply transfer purchases from iPod? I got confused in the article where it reads: "If you've erased the iTunes library on your computer, there's no way to use the Finder or My Computer to copy the media from your iPod to reconstitute the library on your computer." Is this simply saying the only way to restore the library is to use the "transfer purchases from iPod" option or re-burn and buy all my music?
    2. If I purchase a song from another computer and load it to my iPod, will the song be erased when I hook my iPod to my home computer if it syncs before I use the "Transfer purchases from iPod" option?
    Matt

    can anyone help here?

  • Transferring Music Between Computers With Ipod (Very Unique Situation)

My Ipod has about 300+ songs on it that aren't on my old desktop (Windows)and I would like to know if I can get those 300 songs off the Ipod and onto my new MacBook Pro. I looked at the tutorial for how to do this and I saw two problems I would need to address. The first is the guide says something about not being able to move the files from a PC to a Mac and the second is it talks about updating the files on the ipod which I can't do since the files I want to find aren't on there. Can I move these files without updating the Ipod? Oh and by the way I moved all the other files over to the MacBook.

There's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    iPod.iTunes Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to your MacBook and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod will appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Sharing/transferring music between computers

I am trying to transfer/share my "podcasts" folder, "purchased" folder, and a personal folder from this computer, my father's laptop, to our home computer, a desktop computer. My dad also uses iTunes on this laptop, so we each have a separate folder within iTunes for our playlists, thus my only transferring certain playlists. I followed each step precisely as shown in the article about this on the website, but it did not work, as many times as I checked to make sure I was doing everything right. When I go to the home desktop computer and check the Look for Shared Music box in the Preferences section, then click OK, nothing ever comes into the source list, where the folders from this laptop are supposed to be. Please help! The home computer is new, and the old one was not capable of having iTunes, so all I am trying to do is transfer my iTunes folders and the music contained in them from this laptop to that computer. Any suggestions? Please?!

  • Synching, transferring music between iPod, new laptop

    Good morning all!
I recently have acquired a lovely new Dell laptop and would like to know which files I need to place on it so that iTunes and my iPod are once again happy friends and don't get into "no, I can't synch this" "yes I can but I'll have to wipe out what's on the ipod already" "no I can't" "yes I can neener neener neener" catfights.
First, a little history - bear with me, because my tale of woe is a long one.
My school-issued Acer laptop was where I kept most of my music; it played nicely with my iPod mini (synching things, the library and the iPod's contents the same, no complaints, etc) right up until the point where its hard drive failed in a slow, sure, and pathetically sticky way. (I will save my anti-Acer rants for the macbook forum. Before sending it off to get a new hard drive, we backed up its entire contents; most of those backups still remain (all of the My Documents folders, the iTunes program file folder, to name a few - the redundancies such as the Windows program files and many, many, many Word temp files were junked). Once the laptop came back, the iPod complained that it could not sync to the new library of stuff (which at that time was nothing, maybe one new downloaded song) without wiping out the entire rest of my collection. I grumbled and worked around it by having an on-computer iTunes library and when I wanted to listen to the stuff on my iPod while working on my computer, sitting there looking rather silly with my iPod sitting next to me.
Now that laptop has been turned back into the school (good riddance!!), and a full backup has been made of it.
I would like to know if it is possible to...
-Get my iPod mini so that it will play nicely with my new computer. In other words, is there a way that I can get it to sync while keeping the old music that is already on there?
-Ideally, I would like to also transfer the music that is on my iPod to my computer so that the iTunes library and iPod playlist are truly the same. How feasible is this?
-What files should I be looking to transfer to my new computer to do this? (The My Music folder, of which iTunes has a subfolder? The iTunes program file folder?)
-Are there any helpful programs, utilities or guides for doing just this? (Surely I can't be the first person to switch computers while using the same iPod. I would even venture to guess that I have skipped right over a guide here, I just need to be pointed towards it.)
-Will there be any problems connecting my iPod to a completely different laptop? I realize most safeguards are well-intentioned, but I would be very unhappy if my iPod saw my new laptop and went "What! You're trying to get all of your friends' music, you copyright-law-dodging theif!" and wiped its hard drive. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot, here. (Incidentally, all of my music is paid for, or either transferred off my own CDs or found from garage-band-types who put their music free for download online - so it's taken awhile to put things together and while it could potentially be recovered I would be extremely unhappy to have it all deleted under some hyperprecaution put in by the RIAA - so I would really rather not have this happen, lol!)
If it helps: my iPod is set to be disk-style (i.e., yells at me to disconnect it properly, Windows sees it as a hard drive - this is mainly so I have a .txt file with my name/address on it and its name on there) (yes, my mini is named Timothy, lol), and my new laptop is operating under Windows Vista.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks muchly in advance!
      Windows Vista

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • TRANSFERING MUSIC BETWEEN TWO IPODS

My ipod capacity (60GB) is larger than the computer's,so I do not have all my musics in the computer. I would like to transfer some musics from my ipod to my son's ipod, but I could not copie them from my ipod to the computer. How can I do that?

    Hello Ed,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Is there a way to take Music off one Ipod and put on another Ipod.
Yes, but in order to sync it to the 2nd iPod, you'll need to copy it over to your iTunes library first. You can transfer content from one iPod directly to another.
So if the music you wish to sync to the 2nd iPod is no longer in your iTunes library, you'll need to somehow copy it off the 1st iPod first and import it into your library.
