Transferring music from an outdated macbook to my iPad

Well, I finally did it. My new iPad is ahead of my laptop. It won't sync with my laptop, because I don't have the latest version of iTunes, and I cannot get it because my macbook's software does not support it.
Is there anyway I can somehow transfer my music from my macbook to my new iPad (I have the iPad 3 with retina display). I was able to find a way to put PDFs on my new iPad through DropBox. And photos are uploaded to my new iPad through photostreaming. If I can solve the music problem, I'll be good to go.

To use an ipad 2 the following are the system requirements
Apple ID (required for some features)
Internet access5
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
For iPad 3
Apple ID (required for some features)
Internet access6
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
Download iTunes at www.itunes.com/download
If you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard
System Requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
So to summarise to sync with iPad 3 you need iTunes 10.7 or later
To use itunes 10.7 you need Snow Leopard operating system
It may be time for a newer computer you could get a 2nd hand one for reasonable money on ebay
found this one

  • Transferring music from iPhone to MacBook Pro

I  just bought a new macbook pro and went to transfer my music from my iPhone to the new iTunes, and only half transferred. The other half are in the iTunes music section but are not highlighted. Help?

The iphone is not a backup device.
The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Transfer Purchases.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • Transferring music from iPhone to MacBook

I have recently downloaded some new albums on my iPhone, however when I tried to transfer them to my MacBook there was a problem with my internet connection and as a result a majority of the songs haven't transferred. At the moment all of the songs that haven't transferred are light grey with an exclamation point in a circle to the left of the song name and they cannot be played on my Mac. I have tried syncing my iPhone again but I can't get them to transfer properly, any advice on how to sort this out?

iTunes will sync the contacts back for you.
If you right-click in your iPhone in iTunes, there should be a "Transfer Purchases" option. That will copy anything you got from the iTunes Store from your iPhone back to your Mac.
You can buy a program called senuti to copy music you didnt buy from the iTunes Store back to your Mac.
iPhoto or Image Capture will pull any photos in your Camera Roll, but I dont know about getting pictures you synced back. Im sure theres an app for that. Just remember that iTunes downsized them before it copied them, so they wont be the same quality as orig.
Oh, and go spend 75 for an external hdd and setup Time Machinr to automatically back your Mac up so youre never in this spot again.

  • Transfering music from iphone to Macbook

My old macs hardrive crashed but i had all my music on there so i need to get it back onto my computer. I still have the music on my iphone though, so is there an application that will help me do this? I've been looking for a while but i cant find one. I need one thats free, supports latest iphone OS, and supports mountain lion. Thanks!

Why not just sync your iPhone with iTunes on your computer (assuming it now has a working hard disk)? You can also sync it with another computer using iTunes, even temporarily just to have a backup. iTunes can handle multiple devices, if you're using someone else's computer meanwhile.
iTunes is your best bet for sync and backup of your iPhone.

  • Just bought a new macbook w/ mtn lion. transferred data from my old macbook over n it created another user name. that's actually good--xcept for music, which i want on my new acct. How do i move files from my "old comp" acct to my new one?

i just bought a new macbook w/ mtn lion. when i transferred data from my old macbook over, it created another user name (i called it "old computer"). That's actually good--I'm not going to be accessing old files frequently--except for music, which i want on my new user name. How do i move files from my "old comp" account to my new one? Is there a way to easily move large #'s of files, or just one by one? I've googled extensively but can only find instructions for OSX 10.6 and previous, which talks about the "Shared folder," which I can't seem to find.

That's actually bad. Peruse Pondini's Setup New Mac guide and seriously consider starting over.

  • Trapped at transferring data from my old macbook pro to iMac

I got a new iMac yesterday and was trying to transfer data from my old macbook pro to iMac through time machine...
    However, I encountered HUGE problems....
Background info: I set up a new account before I transffered my data.
    Here is what I did:
I used migration assistance to transfer data. I chose to transfer everything listed on migration assistance from time machine to my new iMac.
After this process was completed, I switched to the transferred account from my newly-set account. Then I realized all the old stuf, (including the software problems + old apps such as microsoft 2008, had been transferred to my new iMac. what I really wanted were all the documents, pictures and music! Therefore I decided to delete this account....
    Question 1:
    1) I deleted the transferred account, then there was a windown came up asking me if i wanted to keep the home folder, I chose no. then mac started cleaning up and BACKING UP. Since I already had a copy of everything, I stopped the backup process....then this transferred account was deleted. However, everything was still on my mac that I don't have access to (at least I don't know how...) when I checked my mac stroage!
Could anyone tell me how to delete all the files I transferred from time machine to my new iMac?
    Question 2:
    2) how can i only transfer documents+pictures+music from my old macbook pro to new iMac through time machine without creating a new account? I want all the files to be directly transferred to my newly-set account...
    LSS:
    Question 1
I tried to transfer everthing from my old macbook pro to new iMac but i realized there were something I didn't want that had been transferred as well. Therefore I deleted this transferred account. However, all the files are still in my mac even if I have deleted that account. Could anyone tell me how I can access to those content and delete them?
    Question 2
I just want the documents, music and pictures (from iPhone library) to be directly transferred to the newly-set account on my iMac through time machine (instead to transferred the whole old account to my imac) How can I do it??
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE OF GOING THROUGH THIS MESSAGE. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD GIVE ME A HAND.
btw, you can totally see that i'm not a computer person at all....:( thanks for your help!!

I suggest starting over. Boot into Recovery mode, wipe the HD, reinstall the OS, and, on first boot, use the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide to do the migration.'

  • Transferring music from old computer using ipod

I recently transferred music from my old computer to my new computer using my ipod by following the directions in apple support (article 300173.) I already had music in itunes on my new computer when I added the music from my old computer. Now all the music that I had loaded prior to the transfer comes up with a message "original file could not be found." Have I lost this music for good?
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If you dragged the file called 'iTunes' in to the music folder in the finder and it asked 'do you wish to overite' then it has probably overwritten the folder tha t already existed
    (with the new music in).
If you haven't emptied you trash it might be in there, but don't click retore the trash just drag the folder onto the desktop.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to transfer music from iTunes on Macbook to my iPhone 4S?

I just recently bought a Macbook Air (my 1st Mac computer) & I'm having trouble transferring music from iTunes onto my iPhone 4S.  I never had this problem before when I was using my PC.  I've got my iphone connected to the Mac & itunes shows that it's connected.  I've tried to drag the music to where it says "iPhone", but the music isn't transferring.  I've also attempted to transfer the music by clicking on the arrow next to the album name, then click "Add to" & then click my "iphone", but it still won't transfer.  Am I missing something here?  Please help!

Open itunes, connect iphone, select what you want, sync.
If you want to drag and drop then you must select manually manage music.

    Hey lightc,
If you are having an issue with iTunes not recognizing your iPad and iPod on your Windows computer, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Transferring music from iphone to pc

Purchased/Downloaded music from itunes to iphone - how can I sync / upload music to PC to back up?

    PaulCB
Saw your post about transferring music from iPhone. I guess I am a total dweeb; I cannot understand Apple's instructions.
I have two identical PCs. Have same version of iTunes on each. iPhone 3GS with 4.01 OS. I cannot figure out how to transfer the 5400 songs on my iPhone into my iTunes library without erasing the 2500 songs (different titles which came from a Dead Dell) that are already there. Any advice would be super appreciated.
