Transferring music from ine iPod to another  iPod

how do I transfer music from 1 iPod to another iPod. I have both iPods open and when i try to drag the music over i get a circle with a slash thru it. it won't let me do it. If you can help please email me at [email protected] and in the subject line put IPOD help

If your iTunes library has all the songs that are on your old iPod, then just plug the new one in and iTunes will ask if you want to change the link; click yes and your songs will transfer. It's next to impossible to do it the way you're describing.

Have you selected manually manage music?

I second the whole iTunes folder approach.
If for some reason you have split the media folder from the library files then the media folder needs to restored to the same path it used to have while the library files can be copied into the music folder of your new profile.
If in dobut, backup up the entire Documents and Settings folder before wiping the infected drive, but be selective about what you restore as many viruses drop active components capable of reinfecting the compuer in the temp folders and internet caches. It is much easier to backup more than you need than to discover after the fact that you no longer have access to some vital project you'd been storing in a folder on the desktop.

  • Transfering music from one ipod to anoter

Helloo, i was just wondering if anybody knows how to transfer music from one ipod to another ?? as i want to but a newer up to date nano but dont want to loose all my music ??

Yes you can remove music from your iPod. When you plug in your iPod that has the music, you just need to select Transfer Purchases instead of Sync, this will transfer your purchases from your iPod with the music into iTunes and then you can sync the purchases from iTunes to your new iPod Touch.

  • Transfering music from an iPod to a computer and more

All of the music that I have on my computer, I have transfered to my iPod Video. I am going to reboot my computer, which includes deleting all of the music. I would love to have it on my computer though, so I wonder if it's possible for me to "extract" the music from my iPod and put it on my computer hard drive.
I also wonder how I should do so that iTunes doesn't update my iPod when the iTunes library is empty. That would mean that iTunes would delete all of the music from my iPod. I know that I can modify the settings so that I must update my iPod manually, but to change the settings I must connect my iPod, and if I do, the empty iTunes starts deleteing the music of the iPod. Well, you get the picture. I need to modify the settings without connecting my iPod. Or is there a way to abort the update before iTunes has begun deleting my music? Anyway, please help me!

Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

  • Transfering music from my iPod to my itunes on a new computer

a few days ago, the power surged and destroyed my computer, and I just got a new one. Today I installed iTunes to my new computer, and when I went to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer, I discovered that I couldn't do this. I checked the support section of iTunes for help, and only found information on transfering music while the old computer is still accessable. Since my old computer is dead, I can't access it to follow any of the steps of the guide, or disconnect my iPod from the iTunes on my old computer. Does anyone know how I can sync my iPod with my new computer and sync the songs from my iPod onto my new computer (rather than erase all my songs which appears to be just about the only option my iTunes is offering right now)?

How about this, I have an iPod that is synced to my friends computer. I finally got my own computer and want to transfer everything to this computer so I can add new stuff, but I want to leave my library at my friends house so I have a backup. So my question is, if I add stuff to my library on my computer and I reconnect it to my friends computer, will I lose the stuff I added from my computer?
If you click "erase & sync" if prompted, yes.
And also, do I need to go to my frineds house with my computer to transfer the non-purchased stuff?
    Don't steal music...
The reason I want to know is I dont want to lose the stuff I have added from my computer when I connect to my friends computer. Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks in advance! =)

is it possible to transfer music from an Ipod that was connected to a PC to my macbook? or do I have to reinstall all my music to the mac?

I had a similar problem, when a I bought my current G4 Powerbook, my iPod was synced with my iMac, so wanted to transfer all the music from iPod to the Powerbook. Basically, I used a free third party application. Download it, install then connect your iPod, it will copy everything from there to the Macbook.

  • Transfering music from your ipod shuffle to your computer

    I AM STUCK!!
My grandpa is so eager to make me get this done, so i would like a response sometime today.
How do you transfer music from your ipod to your computer?
I gave my grandpa an ipod shuffle for his birthday and we got all the songs that are now on his ipod are from my itunes account.
    WE BOTH HAVE DIFFERENT MUSIC!!
all i am trying to do is change the format of my music to mp3 so he will be able to play his music in his car.
i have went into prefrences, import settings, blaa blaa. Then when i right clicked on my music thats in "on this ipod" it only had 3 options.
is there either an easy way to change the format without syncing music onto my computer or how do you sync the music from your ipod to your computer?

When you purchase music, you do not purchase the right to distribute that music to others.
    This is illegal.

  • Transferring music from old iPod to new Apple ID

I recently purchased my 1st iPhone and changed my Apple ID when I did.  I just tried logging into my iTunes on my PC for the 1st time since and my music from my iPod is no longer there.  When I connect my iPod to the computer, I can see the music under the iPod and "On this iPod".  How do I transfer the music to my music in iTunes so that I can transfer it to my iPhone?
Thanks in advance for your help!

your AppleID is like your SSI# you cannot transfer infromation from one to the other. what ever you purchased under the old AppleID is linked to that ID only.

  • Transfering music from my ipod to my new computer

I have a new computer. I gave my old one to my grandson. I deleted everything from the old computer including my itunes. I tried to transfer the music from my ipod onto itunes in my new computer, but it won't transfer unless the music is from the itunes store. Most of my music is from cd's. If I try to sync it will delete everything from my ipod. It shouldn't be this difficult. How do I transfer my music into itunes?

I have to admit I've never actually tried it, but I think it can be done. If you go into Preferences and click the devices tab, there's an option to prevent devices from syncing automatically. If you check that before connecting your ipod, it won't delete the files. Then when you connect your ipod, select the option to enable the disk as a hard drive. After that, you should probably be able to access the ipod through my computer and copy the files over to your computer.

  • Transferring music from the iPod to iTunes

I had been using a friend's computer for my iTunes because I did not have one of my own at the time. I put all of my music and bought all of my music onto that computer, and then sync'd it onto my iPod. Now I have my own computer and want to be able to transfer my music from my iPod to my iTunes library so that I can play the music from my computer as well. Is this possible? If so, how?

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your OWN computer and a different iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.
