Transferring Music from iPhone to new computer

Hello,
The computer I normally sync with iTunes has crashed suddenly with an I/O error on the hard disk.  This has left the computer completely useless and now I am trying to manage the music on my iPhone with my work laptop, (Windows PC) but I am only able to transfer my purcahsed songs from iTunes off my phone to the work laptop music library, and I can't sync without losing all my other content on the iPhone that is in my original library on the crashed laptop.
With my original computer out of commission there must be some way of creating a new library on my second computer and managing my music from the iPhone.  My only copy of the music files is on the iPhone.  How do I move these to the new laptop?

You should be able to recover the media with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings. You can probably transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup. That might switch the assocation of the device to the new machine but I couldn't say for sure.

how to transfer music from iphone to new computer

iTunes will transfer your purchases from your iPhone to your new computer by using File>Transfer Purchases. For the rest of the content that’s on your iPhone use a program called TouchCopy which works on Windows and the Mac. It transferred my music, photos, contacts and SMS to my new computer very well.

  • Transferring music from old to new computer ?

    hey!
so i tried following the tutorial for transferring music from my old computer to my new computer (both of them PC's) and i got as far as the "copy itunes folder into ipod then connect to new computer"
now the next step is to take that itunes folder outta my ipod folder and place it into "my music" and then delete the itunes folder from my ipod so i free up my memory again.
the only problem is i don't know where this "ipod folder" is located so i can't extract the itunes folder and now i have all this memory used up.
has anyone done this before because the PC version of the tutorial doesn't seem to be working. my question is what should this ipod folder look like and where can i find it?
    THANKS!

Hi cynthia I know what your going through the same exact thing happened to me (I feel your pain and stress). You can use Windows Explorer to delete the folder it should be obsvisoly labeled I belive as "Itunes" and if you acidentally delete your music its already on your new computer anyway so all you would have to plug it in and it would sync...

  • How to sync music from iPhone onto new computer

I had my iPhone synced to my old computer. I connected it to my new computer and it won't allow me to put any of my old music onto iTunes without deleting it all first. How can I keep my old music and put it onto my new iTunes?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Transfering music from iphone 3g to computer

    Penny wise and pound foolish.
boggles my mind that I can't simply transfer MY files from MY phone and MY PC. /END RANT
Boggles my mind that people don't have a backup and then on top of that, they place blame everywhere but themselves when it comes back to bite them.
$25 so I can have access to MY files is just stupid.
If I have data on two sources (phone and PC), why should I need a 3rd source for backup? There is NO reason why my phone can't act as a backup for PC and vice versa. The old iPods could do this. My old Android phone could do this!
I backup all my important work and personal files, but having 12 gigs of music saved on 3 different sources (plus the CD originals) is just unnecessary.
Please don't make excuses for Apple not supporting this.
But how about going back to solving the problem... is there freeware available or a workaround so that I and the original poster can copy music from phone to PC???
Thanks to those who are trying to help.

  • Transferring music from iphone to new iphone

So, say I'm West Coast guy and in the East Coast visiting family. Had a iPhone 5s and just got a new iPhone 6. Figured I could backup my iPhone 5s on brother's iMac and then restore it to the new iPhone 6. Most of it went OK, except I've got some of his apps and a few other things - but I did not get any of my music over to the new iPhone 6. Most all my music was imported into my iTunes from CDs and then onto my iPhone 5s.
Question: any way to get my music back onto the new iPhone 6, or will I have to resynch when I get home?
Is there a better/cleaner way to transfer settings/content from one iPhone to another new one, other than backup and restore from iTunes?
    Thanks!

  • Transfer old and new music from iphone to new computer account?

So my account on my family Mac desktop was malfuntioning -- meaning the apps open would not close, and the loading screen and rainbow cursor would not go away (its been days) therefore i decided to delete my account and create a new one.
My account had everything of mine personal on it and noone elses. I thought that since all of my music was on my phone, i could just transfer all the music back to the computer, once i set up the new account that has nothing on it.
    Its not working.
All the music I have is on my phone and only my phone. It is a mix between computer purchases, phone purchases, and CD's. All on various accounts from the past 7 years ever since i got my first ipod shuffle.
Im really really hoping i can transfer everything back to my computer, because so far its only transferred the songs ive purchased on my phone, nothing else.
And it hasnt asked me for verification or authorization for other accounts or anything.
    Help? Im desperate.

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.

  • Music from Iphone to New Computer

My computer crashed and since then I have bought a new computer, how do I get all of my music from my iphone to my new computer? I have window XP base program

Technically, you cannot go from iPhone to computer (except songs bought via the iPhone in the WiFi iTunes). Just computer to iPhone, else one could go over to any friends house and transfer off music.
Unless you can get access to your old computers harddrive and hook it into your new PC and see if can get the files, or of course if you made backups, you really don't have much luck.
You may ask over in the iTunes forum if Apple has a way to identify songs you have purchased and redownload them but I am very unclear about that.

  • HT1373 how to synch music from iphone to new computer

I just bought a new computer and want to synch all the information from my iPhone to the new computer.  I have authorized the computer but when I try to synch, it erases all my music.

That is correct.  The iphone is not a backup device.  It simply mirrors the selected content of your computer.
Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will indeed erase the current content.
You need to copy everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • Transfer music from iphone to new computer

purchased a new laptop and I want to tranfer my music from the iphone to the new laptop witha  blank itunes.  I've tried a syncing the phone and it warns me the iphone data will be erased.  Not cool.  Any suggestions?  The old computer is dead and I can't access the data.

This cannot be done (by design) without third party software, which may or may not be a violation of the iTunes license agreement. Try googling "Senuti".

  • Transferring music from iPhone to new iTunes

The hard drive on my new Mac Book Pro failed and I took it to the Apple Store.  They said it would have to be replaced and suggested I take it to Best Buy first to have it backed up.  I do so and they charged me for a portable HD they said had all my files (including iTunes) on it.  I then took the Mac Book back to the Apple Store where they replaced the hard drive.  When I tried to restore the portable HD Best Buy had done, I discovered that Best Buy had not backed up anything. The HD was blank.  I took it back to Best Buy and they appoligized and said they had made a mistake, but they had not been able to back the old hard drive up.  I called the Apple Store back but they said the old hard drive had already been disposed of.  All my music is on my iPhone.  Is there a way to get it into iTunes on the new hard drive on my Mac Book Pro?  I'm not going to worry about the rest of the files on the old hard drive.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod/iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
You may be able to purchase software to retrieve other items.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your computer before it failed?

  • Transferring music from Ipod to new computer

Hello, I have just bought a new computer and would like to know how I can transfer the playlists from my Ipod directly to the Itunes that I have just downloaded.

I tried following this document and made my Ipod a hard drive so I could copy files off it onto a flash drive memory stick, so that I could then copy them onto my new computer.
The ipod files won't go anywhere!
What else can I do??? (Since I was moving, I copied all my CDs onto it using my old computer, which is now inaccessible some 8000 miles away, as are the CDs.)
I would like to back up the CDs from the ipod on my new computer, and be able to play them from the computer, too.
How do you get them off the ipod onto my new computer???

  • Transferring Ringtones From iPhone To New Computer--Need Help!

I recently purchaced a new computer. I was able to get my music purchased on my phone onto my new computer, however I can't get my ringtones! Does anyone know why this is happening? How can I get my ringtones to show up so that I can sync my phone? I'm in desparate need of help!

I am assuming you found the physical files of the ringtones on your old computer and moved them to your new computer. After doing so ensure you are logged into the iTunes store so your account info is known. Then it should be as simple as dragging them into your library.
