Transferring music to new computer

Hello, I'll try to keep this brief, sorry, I'm new to these forums too.
I am buying a new computer with a PCI-E setup because I currently run a lowly AGP and I am starting fresh, new hard drives, new everything.
How can I transfer all my music from my iTunes library on my current computer to my new computer?
Should I authorize my new computer and de-authorize my current computer?
I would like to keep my entire library of music and transfer it.
Any suggestions? I love my music but do not want to lose it all just because I am getting a new computer....

The cd will appear inside of iTunes, and you can import the songs to your library from there. Otherwise, you can open the cd in explorer, and simply drag the music folders into the iTunes program. Everything should import fine.
When you're creating the data disc playlist in iTunes, it should tell you at the bottom of the playlist how many mbs the files are taking up. However, I'd simply put ALL your music into one playlist, and when burning iTunes will inform you that it will take multiple discs to complete the session. Agree to this and after it's done burning files to one disc, you simply insert another. And so on, depending on how much music you have.

  • Transferring music to new computer with nano

I tried transferring my purchases by plugging the nano in as directed, and only 16 songs showed up? I also burned some music to a disc and when I put the disc in it only had track number and said the names could not be found. What am I doing wrong. They have made it so hard to transfer to a new computer compared to a few years ago

If your music appears in the iTunes library, you should be fine.

  • Problem transferring music to new computer

i just bought a new laptop after my old one crashed. i have been following apple's instructions in the article "how to use your ipod to move music to a new computer." i am able to do all of this except when i get to the step which says to open up the ipod and drag the itunes folder to the my music folder. my problem is that i do not see the itunes folder when i open up my ipod. if anyone can help me and give me any insight on what i can do to find that folder or to finish this process i would greatly appreciate it! thanks so much!

See this migrate iTunes library post for the steps I normally recommend. It may be easier to redo the transfer if the library still works on the original machine.
Otherwise are you certain that all the media was copied across? I have tools and suggestions that can relink the media files if they have been put into the wrong layout as long as there is still a degree of structure, but if they are nowhere to be found then they can't help.
The locate button doesn't necessarily start you in the right place to look for a missing track. If it were that easy iTunes ought not to need your help at all.

  • Transfering music into new computer

My old laptop died and the information/music on it is irretrievable. Now, on my new lap top, I just downloaded itunes again, but if I sync my itouch with it, all the music on the touch will be lost. is there any way i can transfer the music from my itouch back into my itunes library? (since it's original source is now dead?)
I don't want to lose the ratings I have been keeping tabs on my itouch ;-(

    Hey lightc,
If you are having an issue with iTunes not recognizing your iPad and iPod on your Windows computer, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • I Have a Ipod Classic that all my music is on. After my previous computer crashed I have not had any of my music able to be transfered to the new computer from the Ipod. Is there a way to do this

I Have a Ipod Classic that all my music is on.
After my previous computer crashed I have not had any of my music able to be transfered to the new computer from the Ipod.
Is there a way to do this?

Unfortunately, unless you have a backup and can restore the iTunes library to the new computer, you are stuck with the current state of the iPod. This is one of those things that makes doing backups so important.
Unless your music is all purchased from iTunes (not from your own CD's that you imported into iTunes and then downloaded to the iPod), you will be able to re-download all your iTunes store music back to the iPod when you install iTunes on the new computer. When you first attach the iPod to the new computer and new iTunes the first time it will tell you that this iPod is synced with another iTunes library and let you initialize the iPod (which will erase everything on the iPod - so don't do this unless you don't care about the stuff on the iPod now).
I've seen 3rd party apps in the past that will let you copy music/content from iPod to computer and bypass iTunes, but not sure if they still exist as this was several years ago.
    good luck

  • Problems transferring previously purchased music to new computer through icloud

I have transferred my itunes music to new computer, but purchased music does not appear. How can I restore purchased music? The link ´purchased´in the store does not show music, only movies and apps

    iTunes prefs > Store.
Tick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
If it's not there, log out of iTunes store then log back in.
Now select Movies and there will be a column with a cloud.
Click the cloud icon to download.

  • After transferring music to new Mac, Mac won't recognize iPod

I just recently transferred my music from a PC to a new Powerbook G4 using my iPod in disk mode. I erased everything on my iPod, then loaded it with music in disc mode to put on my new computer. But now, I need to erase the stuff on there in disc mode so I can put it back in the normal mode.
Just when I thought I was figuring it out, my Mac won't recognize my iPod. Do I need to reformat it for a Mac since I was using it with a PC? Be gentle, I'm new to Macs and don't know the lingo or my way around very well yet.

Exactly what steps did you follow?
    1. what do I do with original iTunes folder?
    It's on your old computer.
What do you want to do with it?
    2. how do I get iTunes to read/ingest playlist and songs?
If you copied the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer then you simply need to open iTunes.
Since it is the exact same library, everything will be there as it was on old computer.

Will my whole itunes library be transferred to my new computer with home sharing,in other words will I be able to use bothe computers at the same time ? And will I have two copies of my all my playlists?

    Hi there J1750oe,
You may find the information in the article below helpful.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
    Transferring playlists
If you want not only your content but also your playlists to exist on your new computer, you will want to transfer a copy of all your playlists from your old computer. To do this, choose File > Library > Export Library on your old computer. Save the XML file that is created to your desktop.
Send the playlists file to yourself as an e-mail attachment, use an external drive, or use file sharing to move the playlists file to your new computer. Once the file is on your new computer, open iTunes and choose File > Library > Import Playlist. The import process will remove any items from the playlists that you didn't share via Home Sharing.

  • Ipod nano help with syncing music to new computer?

I have two ipod nanos, one 6th gen. the other 7th gen, and the laptop I had all the music on and synced from cant be accessed anymore, so how can I get the music onto a different computer and be able to sync new music to them?

Thanks!  I did it again using my iPod again.  (I couldn't find an external drive large enough)
What am I supposed to do with the iTunes folder that is now on my desktop from the step below:
    Copy music to new computer
To copy all your music files (including the library file that holds all your playlists and other settings) to your new computer:
Locate your Music folder (Mac OS X) or your My Music folder (Windows) on your new computer:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
Drag the iTunes folder in this location out to the desktop.
    Can I just delete that?

  • Transferring CS3 to new computer and upgrading to CS6

I am wanting to transfer my Adobe CS3 suite to my new Macbook Pro. I'm worried about not being able to access my design files correctly once transferring to my new computer. I'm also interested in upgrading to the latest CS6. Any advice would be appreciated!

To install your CS3 Suite, don't try to copy the application files. If possible, use the installer discs or a copy of the installer file you original used to install on your old computer. If you don't have the original discs/installer file, you can download the installer here:
    Other downloads
Deactivate CS3 on your old computer.
As to buying the latest CS6, you can do that from the Adobe Store.
